Most recent read message displaying as unread in mail.app v4.5

When a new mail message comes in and I read it, more than 50% of the time it will remain marked as unread until I click on a different mailbox and then click back to my Inbox. Repeatedly viewing the message or closing and re-opening the mail.app window doesn't help, only clicking on a different mailbox and then clicking back to my Inbox seems to get mail.app back on track. This has been going on for months. I have reset the computer multiple times during that interval to no effect, but have not attempted any further problem-solving.
I am using a mid 2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8

The recommended size limit for a mailbox with Jaguar or Panther Mail is 1GB and for Tiger Mail, 2GB.
Check Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 Mail: Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.
I avoid allowing any mailbox to exceed 500MB in size and use the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis - once a month or so depending on activity and I haven't experienced any problems.

Reading messages on iphone causing Mac Mail App to have blank from, to, etc

So this is a weird one and I haven't found it covered so I'm at my wits end.
Not sure exactly when - but somewhere after installing Leopard I get the following behavior:
If I retrieve mail with mail.app first normally I get proper headers displayed in the message list window.
If I READ the email on my iPhone let alone respond to it, etc. and then go back to my mail.app all emails I chose to read, reply to, etc. have blank from, to, and subject lines in the message list window. They appear ok in the message window but not the message list window.
If I choose to reply to (or forward) any message that has these blanks the resulting email message to edit is missing subject line, to line, etc.
I'm running an IMAP account.

Yahoo prevents accessing a free Yahoo account with any email client such as the Mail.app on your Mac for U.S. residents.
Yahoo provides a free Push-IMAP account for iPhone customers which can be accessed with the iPhone's email client but with no others on another computer or device.
You can get a free AOL account which can be accessed as an IMAP account with the Mail.app on your Mac and with the iPhone's email client.
There arent too many free IMAP accounts available and you usually get what you pay for.

Some have reported success simply by reinstalling the update.

Or download and apply, or reapply, the 10.6.8 Combo update first, then apply the Security Update again.

I'd suggest starting with the simplest of these fixes, so look them over first.

To remove the account, all you need to do is to go to your Mail Preferences, go to the Accounts tap, select the AOL account and click the Remove button ( - ) in the lower left hand button of the window. Take a look at the article below for more information.

When you remove an email account from Mail, the account’s messages are deleted and no longer available on your Mac. Copies of messages remain on the account’s mail server and are still available (from webmail, for example).

Most Recent SMS Messages Hidden After Restore

So, I was having trouble with by browser and decided to do a wipe and restore. Turns out the problem was with the google page that i was trying to load, which the browser didnt like very much.
Anyway, I backed up my data right before using the security wipe, then I restored the data from the same backup file and everything seemed to work fine. However, when i go into the hub, i see the previews of SMS's that have been sent to me in the few hours since i resored the phone, but when i select the text, it opens, jitters around a bit, and then only displays texts that i recieved yesterday. Nothing from today.
So since i can see the most recent texts in the hub previews, i know they are on the phone. but when i open the conversation they dissapear...
Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know a fix?

I have that same behavior occurring, but in only one mailbox. Whenever I open that particular mailbox, it defaults to the top -- i.e. oldest -- message. Every other mailbox I have defaults to the bottom -- i.e. newest -- message. Why the heck is that happening, and how do I get it to follow the same pattern as all the other mailboxes?

Messages automatically marked as read in yahoo and unread in Mail

I typically use yahoo.com to view/read my yahoo mail, but I would like the option of viewing in Mail as well. However, when I launch my Mail account, all messages remain "unread" (whether I've read them or not in yahoo.com). And when I go to my yahoo.com account after opening Mail, all messages (whether I've read them or not in Mail) are automatically marked as "read". This is extremely frustrating as I would like both Mail and yahoo.com to reflect read and unread emails appropriately.
I do not have this problem when I use the Mail app on my iPhone.

UPDATE: In addition to all mail being marked as "unread" in yahoo.com, most messages older than a few days old are also deleted. They still appear in Mail, but I need to read them in yahoo.com as well. In addition, Mail does not contain the folders from yahoo.com, so all messages appear in Mail as one big "unread" mess in my inbox. Again, these issues are not a problem with the iPhone app. Thank you!

After most recent Reader update can't save fillable forms.

After the most recent Adobe Reader XI update, we can no longer save PDFs with fillable forms on the first save attempt. A little background for you. We have forms that we periodically need to change the information in. My users came to me with this issue, when I tried it, I could save. Naturally I thought it was a rights issue since I am an admin, but I checked for Reader updates first to make sure I was on the same version. There were updates for mine, after installing them I have the same issue now. When I change the data in a fillable form, the first attempt to save I am told that it can't be saved and I will need to use a different filename or location. I click OK, after clicking OK my document name in the title bar canges from whatever.pdf to something random.tmp. Now, since it is technically a different document open I can save it to the file I want it to be. Is there a new option or function causing this? This has never been an issue in the past with these PDFs.

Unread message count not updating in Mail.app

I am running a MBP 15" with 10.4.10 and Mail.app (version 2.1.1 build 752.3) and as you can see in this screengrab here:
the unread message count is not correctly updating.
This may actually be something for the Mail dev' team to handle, unless some one else out there in the groups has some inside knowledge about this issue.
For that matter, I do not know how to forward this to the Mail dev' team inside Apple, so if any one else does, please do.

What screengrab?
What type of account do you have -- POP, IMAP or .mac? How many accounts do you have? Do you access your account from more than one computer?
Unread message count where -- on the Mail Icon in the Dock or in individual mailboxes? In the Dock, the Unread message count will NOT reflect any messages moved to custom mailboxes by Rules, but only those in the Inboxes.

Text displays too small in mail app

Help!
I just received the 15" MacBook Pro with enhanced resolution screen (not the Retina display). At the highest resolution, all of the fonts display incredibily small. However, the lower resolution options don't seem to match the aspect ratio of the screen and create distortion. I can deal with this on Safari because it allows pinch and zoom resizing. However, I have not figured out how to zoom in on the Mail app. Using Command + is not a good solution because it actually increases the font size that the recipient views. I have to go all the to 30pt font to make it comfortable to view. Also, using Control and two finger swipe to zoom in a poor option as well because not everything will display.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that you are having a problem with emails sent in html format from certain contacts. I had the same problem, and I found this to fix it:
1. Quit Mail
2. Open the Terminal and type in the following:
defaults write com.apple.mail MinimumHTMLFontSize 12
3. Restart Mail.app and your HTML messages are readable.
You don't have to choose 12 point. Select whatever you like.

Display company name in mail.app?

Is this possible to display the name of company (and not the address e-mail or the name and first name) in reception of e-mail in mail.app?

In Address Book, click on a contact and click "Edit". In that window, you will see First & Last Name at the top, company, and a checkbox that says company, if you tick that, it will allow you to enter a company name for that contact. (see below)

How can I export my messages from Entourage and then import into Mail.app?

I'd like to see this too. I got a new job and CAN NOT get MAIL to work, but the account settings work in ENTOURAGE. I ONLY NEED TO IMPORT THE EMAIL ACCOUNT - NOT the contacts, calendar, etc.

Limit days of messages to be downloaded in Mail app

Is there a way I can limit the number of days worth of messages to be downloaded and available in the OS X Mail application? I want to replicate the behavior similar to iOS Mail app, where I can see a rolling 3/5/7 days (user defined) of messages vs. downloading all 100,000 messages in my inbox.

You can stop the extracting process for an outbound queue, if it exceeds a defined threshold. 
In the DOE admin portal, you can set this threshold in Configuration -> Statistics Configuration -> Configure Maximum Level Values to Stop Extract for Receivers. There, you will find an input field "Maximum Threshold for Queue Size (bytes)".

Read messages marked as unread?

i use skype daily so this is a rather annoying thing to have happen. i'll recieve a message and an alert at the bottom, open skype and talk to whomever, but it doesn't change the status of the messages. they may lose their orange dot in chat (not always), but on the left side and on the icon at the bottom, they remain new. even if i right click and chose "mark as read", it will still tell me theres one new message from that person. i can't find anything recent and the old stuff was all talking about updating to get rid of the problem, but i'm already at the newest version. i've tried logging out and logging back in and i don't want to lose my logs by doing a reset. any ideas..?

If you are routing this personal email through your BES, then you control what it does. But, more likely, you are using BIS for these email conduits...in which case this KB applies:

Read messages showing up unread on BB

I setup my Gmail on my device. If I read it on the BlackBerry it shows up as read on my desktop which is the expected behaviour but when I read the message on my desktop, the message shows up as unread on my BlackBerry. I searched but can't find a fix for this.
I'm also on the BES for my corporate account and don't have this problem.

One think I can tell you is that the public documentation about how BIS reconciles has, as a direct result of issues raised in this community forum, received new attention from the folks inside of RIM. Up until just a couple of weeks ago, the articles we had to cite were flat out incorrect...which, in my mind, is worse than receiving information that is not pleasant...at least the KB is accurate now.
In addition, the price differential between BIS and BES might also be a factor as to why one works with more enhancements.
