Motherboard Questions

Hi All,
I have a question, I have the following 3 MBs to chose from, I'm on a tight budget so I can't really afford the most expensive one without GOOD justification.
I will be running the P4 - 2.6GHz (800Mhz HT) CPU and 512Mb of Kingston 400Mhz memory. I will not overclock the system at all.
My motherboard options are:
1) MSI 648 - SIS 661FX
2) MSI 865PE - Intel 865
3) MSI 875P - Intel 875
Can anybody suggest which one will suffice for my requirements and also tell me what the diffrence between the 865 and the 875 chipset is ...
Thanks

Go with the MSI-i865PE, as this is the "Best Bang For The Buck" Chipset out of all...As for the Difference between the i865PE and the i875P, well that is INTELS way to Make us pay some extra $$$... As the 875 was originally slated to be the only Chipset to use the PAT Technology (Performance Acceleration Technology) and this is (Simply Put) a tech. that "Automaticaly" Sets the Memory timings to a More Agressive (Tighter) Setting.....But Most of the Manufacturers Have Learned how to Make the i865PE (Through a BIOS Tweak) to perform the same, or Faster in some instances, for a lot less money!...The Only thing that the i875 Can do, that the other chipset cannot is Run ECC Memory (Error Correction Code).....But this is something that you dont need unless you are running a Server ...So go with the MSI-i865PE!.............Sean REILLY875

  • Mac Pro Motherboard question

Hi, folks. I am new to the Apple community. I just ordered a Mac Pro and I am anxiously awaiting its delivery.
From my discussion with my salesperson, I came away with a question about the Mac Pro motherboard.
I ordered my Mac Pro with one quad 2.8 chip. I asked the salesperson if I would install another quad core chip at a later time. His answer was no; the motherboard is different when you order a single quad core vs dual quad cores.
I hope this is not the correct answer.
    Thanks, in advance....

are you in the US? I think, it might be best to telephone Apple direct, as their offers and recycling and refund policies vary from country to country to comply with trading standards and other (e.g. EU regulations).
If it was EU law, the following applies:
    1) the "shopkeeper" (Apple) offered a machine at a certain price.
    2) you like the good and advise the shopkeeper that you are prepared to pay as asked and purchase the machine.
    3) Apple accept your offer and sell the machine.
    4) You accept the machine at the conditions of the sales offer and take it home
    5) contract complete and UNLESS you were knowingly misled or the machine was not the one on offer as per 1, you are the legal owner and have no recourse to complaint.
Secondly, there is psychology: you will never ever be happy if you always look for better (my washing machine is 20 years old, but washes - and that is all I expect from a washing machine). Is your machine performing? Are you happy as such? If not, there is always something "better" and "improved". That is what the market economy want to make us believe.
I hope you achieve what you desire. The very best of luck.

  • Z97M Gaming Motherboard QUestion

I have a question about the motherboard. Will it be able to fit two ASUS DirectCU II GTX 770s with enough space for the fan coolers to function properly?

Seems these cards are three slots wide but there is just one slot between the vga slots on Z97M. Enough space for dual slot cards (even if quite tight) but no way with a three slot card. You need a full ATX board to fit these. Micro-ATX boards are a bad idea for sli in general. If you want a small gaming pc go for a faster single gpu vga in the first place. A GTX 780ti would be a better choice.

  • Motherboard Question

I'm about to replace the current motherboard with the MSI, MS-7512 V1.XX P45 Zilent, which comes with the Zalman CPU fan, - either the CNPS 9300 fan, or CNPS 9900 LED version.
Thing is I prefer the Akasa AK 960E; it works for LGA 775 sockets and has always been my preferred choice.
My question is does this mobo package come with the Zalman already fitted , or can you put a different cpu fan cooler on if you want.
    Many, Many thanks in advance

Nothing states that you have to use a CPU cooler supplied with a MOBO.  Just make sure that any cooler you get will fit with the circu-pipe of the P45.
    Thanks Mike.
The Zalman edition of this motherboard comes with the Zalman Flower cpu cooler.
The AK 960E is currently on my P45 Neo, and fits ok
    Thanks again

  • MSI 648 MAx Motherboard question regarding AGP Speed

I have recently bought a Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb and installed latest radeon drivers and msi drivers etc.
I have one question. How do I change it from AGP 4X to 8X. When I click on properties and setting, advance, it only shows 4X as max setting. But my motherboard supports 8 Speed and the card is 8 speed so what do I do?
Tried searching forums already but to no avail. Tried looking in BIOS for options but no luck. Any ideas?
    Cheers guys

    Yup.
I fixed my problem. But now that has brought on a new one.
When I installed the latest driver, it would only let me use AGP 4 speed at most. To proove the newest driver was installed, I did a dxdiag and looked for the agp version and found it. When it is the latest driver installed, it only allows 4 speed. So I had to revert back to a middle driver(ie not the very first one and not the most recent). This then brought up the option of 8speed AGP in my ATI SmartGart panel. I was happy with this. But it is not the latest driver and this is now causing Battlefield Vietnam to crash. Continuously. And experience slowdown etc. Which, lets face it, should not be happening.
SO to sum it up, with the latest driver installed, AGP 4 speed is as high as it can go.
But with a middle driver, i can achieve agp 8 speed but my game crashes with this driver.
And to show just how bad SIS are for updating driver, I have to go into device manager, manually find the .inf file for the latest driver and use this to install the latest driver for it to show up as the latest driver in dxdiag.
So who is at fault here? SIS or MSI? What a piece of crap.
EDIT: Would there be any point in flashing the cmos?

  • OC Genie on the MSI Z87 GD-65 Gaming Motherboard Questions?

    Hey Everyone,
My name is Mark Findlay. I am new here but came to ask a few questions about my motherboard I have had since about July of 2014.
I have overclocked with motherboards many times before but was curious about the OC Genie option when I had installed the board and
was happy to find that it overclocked my CPU to 4.0Ghz with out a single BSOD ever and has been great with temps. Just around 22c-28c
    with an H110 from Corsair.
Anyways, I would like to know if when using OC Genie, is 4.0Ghz all I can get from the Auto OC feature? I mean is it going through and finding what my CPU is capable of and setting it to the best speed and settings so it doesn't have stability issues? I would like to OC it more and I know I should just take the time and go through with a standard overclock but I would like to know if you can edit or change things that OC Genie at all?
Thank you and I hope someone out there can tell me for sure either way how to do it or that it is not possible!
MSI is the best by the way~!
    -PTIPPY  aka Mark Findlay

    Hello,
As far as I'm aware of, OC Genie is limited to those 4.0GHz (or 4.4GHz for i7 4790k), yet depending on the CPU you have( I guess you have 4670k?). So if you want anything further, you need to do it yourself.
On motherboard like Z97 MPower Max there is a little switch that increases OC Genie function's clocks even more, but not sure about GD65 (I doubt it has something like this)

  • Upgrading Motherboard Questions

I have an old Compaq Presario V5000 I was wondering if I can upgrade the motherboard in it to a new HP brand one?
I know most people would say just get a new laptop or something, but I want to know if it is compatible with any other motherboards.

    Hi,
It's not possible to upgrade a laptop like a desktop. You can replace the motherboard by a new compatible (the same as the original) one or upgrade it by the same or similar with a more powerful graphics card. You can't definitely upgrade the laptop by a brand new motherboard with a different chipset on it (like the Cougar Point - Sandy Bridge)..
All compatible components are available in a maintenance and service guide for the product. Go to the HP Software and Drivers website for the laptop and find in Manuals. Have a look at the compatible motherboard and use the part number on google..

  • Good old MSI KT3 Ultra2CE motherboard questions

Hello. I just found my old computer and want to upgrade the CPU and RAM. This is a very good internet-computer. My english is not that good since I am from Skandinavia. But here we go
    The motherboard is KT3 ULTRA 2CE (MS-6380E VER:1.0) with:
    -VIA KT266/333 chipset
    -BIOS 5.7
    -ATi Radeon 9200 SE grapics
    -AMD AthlonXP 2100+ cpu
    -1x512mb ram
Can I fit the AMD AthlonXP 3000+ CPU without any problems? Is this the maximum CPU upgrade?
Can I fit 3x 1GB DIMM DDR SDRAM PC2100 266fsb/266mhz LOW density 184pin NON ECC 2.5v CL3? Is 3x1GB the maximum Gigabyte RAM on this MB?
Would be very nice if someone could answer me with 100% certainty. Dont want to spend money on items thats not going to work on this motherboard.
    Thanks

It can handle upto 4GB memory, however, it won't support just any memory.
You have to ask the memory manufacturer if it will work, as at the time of release of the chipset those large sticks where not on the market.
Nor could MSI test anything above 512MB.
So your only way of knowing is either asking VIA or the memory-manyfacturer, I doubt MSI will test it as it's a very old board.
Thanks for you reply. So it's 100% certain that my MSI KT3 ULTRA2 can handle 3x1gb memory?
I will ask the memory manufactor if he got any memory that is compitable with my via-chipset. Glad I only ordered 1 stick to test it out before ordering more.

  • Satellite L675D-S7049 Motherboard Question

I have recently replaced the motherboard on my laptop. When I power it up I get the lights that should be showing. What I do not get is anything on the monitor. I know about hooking up an external monitor but I still get nothing. I have checked and rechecked all connections and they are good. I have tried all of the online help and am at my wits end here. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance......
    Its running Windows 7.....

Hi Hardware problems are not my strong point. I have only been advising on this forum for a couple of months. Not many advisors hang out here on week ends. I don't think I'm brave enough to replace a MB. Did you MB come with a CPU. Some times they don't. I suppose that depends on where you get the board. Have you tried to install a OS? I have three steady white lights. They all have to due with power.I have one flashing light, which is my internal drive. I have one red light, which is my wireless led.I don't know if this will work, but you could down load seagate tool dos and try to boot with that. If you can boot with it; it will check your HD.

Also are you having the same problem you were having before you replaced the MB??

  • Z97 - Motherboard Questions

Having troubles figuring out what are the overall differences between.  Z97, Z97A, Z97X motherboards.
Was eyeballing the MSI Z97# Gaming 5, 6 or 7 mobos.
    i7-4790k
    4x SSDs
    2x Radeon R9 290X 8GB XFX Crossfire
I would like to do Raid 0 with Four(4) SSDs.
Is that possible?  With any of these mobos?
If not which MSI mobo is?
Can you boot from the 4x SSD Raid 0 ?

Z97 only has USB 3.0 ports
Z97A tends 2 less USB 3.0 ports as they are tied together as a USB 3.1 port
Z97X (no idea as I see non only Gigabyte use that)
all 3 boards (5-6-7) are all able to do a 4 disk raid 0!
as long as your OS is installed to the RAID 0 it should be fully able to boot from it!
