Motherboards with LAN boot option in BIOS?

Hello there!
I have been searching every, but for the life of me cannot find the answer. I am wondering if the MSI A55M-P33 motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130641) has the ability to boot from LAN.
I was also wondering if there is a list of MSI boards that have this option.
Thank you,
Alex

I just wanted to make sure because I'm in the process of getting new hardware for a lab I run at my college, and the computers are to be connected to a PXE Server to boot over LAN, so I HAVE to make sure the board supports it, or I'm out of luck!
Years ago, I worked at a computer manufacturer, and we used various MSI boards in our systems, we would boot the systems from LAN in order to run Norton Ghost from a server to install pre-built disk images. We're talking MSI K7N2 Delta and 865PE era boards here! However, we'd pop in some generic PCI LAN card in for this purpose, just so we had one set of drivers as standard on the server. However, these systems had no problems booting from LAN, even then. So I can't see any newer boards having a problem.

  • How can I boot to USB device if no USB boot option in BIOS

I just purchased a Toshiba NB305-N410BL but am concerned as to how I would image the 250GB HDD if I can not boot from an external cdrom drive.  I tried to backup to shared network folder but none show up on list.  Only boot options in BIOS are HDD, FDD, and LAN.  Thanks for all help in advance.

    Hi, buddy-erp.
I don't know if my instructions apply to you because I only have the NB305 model. However, if you say you have followed all instructions, that is, 1) insured that no other USB devices are connected to your computer at bootup time and 2) have pressed F12 to enter the boot menu; 3) and then designated the USB flash drive as the source of the bootable restoration software you may need Toshiba technical support. I wonder if there is a BIOS update for your computer too. This may need to be downloaded and installed prior to beginning the restoration process. Nevertheless, as stated, I have a NB305 model and the instructions are clear. FYI (for your information), a virus infected my system and made certain changes to this process. Toshiba technical support informed me that the information displayed was wrong and the process outlined was unnecessary but did require technical support to restore it to the OEM default options.
    Good luck.

  • I need help with the boot setup in BIOS

I am trying to reinstall windows 7 back onto my sister's laptop, The BIOS Version is 3.5
I went to the boot order to put the cd/dvd rom in the first boot order and then the notebook hard dive second, selecting f 10 to save and exit. When the computer boot up to go through it process, it goes to a screnn saying that boot device cannot be found, please install a window operating system (3F0) Going back to the BIOS and setting the BIOS to default, selecting f 10, save and exit. Goes through the boot up getting the boot device cannot be found.....
Again I go through the BIOS to the boot order and moving the cd/dvd rom first and the notebook hard drive second and selecting the f 10 to save and exit. Anyway, I still get Boot Device Cannot be Found, Please Install a Windows Operating System (3F0).
Can someone please help me or is this a lost cause.

    Hi,
Rather than setting the boot priority in the bios menu, try the following and see if there's any change.
Remove the installation dvd and shutdown the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.
    Insert the Windows DVD.
Select the Boot options menu ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.

  • KT6V Quick Boot option in Bios

Just wondering, what does the Quick Boot in the Bios (of the KT6V) option actually do?  (looking for technically what it does rather than just, "makes it boot faster").

In short it skips a thorough check/test of your memory, RAM. If quick boot is enabled, it makes a - that's right - quick test and count how much RAM is available.

I just broke my older Acer Aspire 4752G.
I just backup entire Partition my Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit) with Acronis True Image Home 2014 BootCD Premium.
intend to restore in this brand new Acer Aspire E1-410.
Acer Aspire E1-410 don't have Legacy Option only UEFI
Acronis True Image Home 2014 BootCD Premium fully support EUFI but alas my Original Windows don't boot
So I intend to use repair BootRec command prompt

So I call Acer Technical Support They said :
there is NO OTHER WAY to change this UEFI to LEGACY MODE (Build-in Bios mode CANNOT change other than UEFI)
you must install via DVD who FULLY SUPPORT UEFI -> Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 (ONLY in x64bit mode).
I hope you can resolve these for me.
    Thank you.

It is possible to install Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit from DVD to a UEFI based hardware, but must be done using an answer file. It may or may not work if you are using a recovery DVD. Either way, the OS is not supported on that hardware.
Windows 8 32bit is supported on UEFI hardware.
The problem with Win7 32bit on UEFI is a problem in the bootloader. The OS cannot boot because the bootloader cannot find the OS. I had suspected it may be possible to get the OS to boot by using BCDBoot, but since it isn't supported I have not put in any
effort to determine the method of doing it.

  • Laptop won't boot in windows with lan enabled in BIOS

    Hi,
    Toshiba A200-AH3. Windows 7.
So at one point it stopped loading windows 7, it would load until this point (loading screen for windows 7). So, I reinstalled Windows 7 (once format). Twice. It still didn't work. So, somebody gave me the idea to disable everything in bios, which I did. And then it worked. So I went back and just enabled the 2nd CPU in bios and that's about it. A few days ago I needed to connect the lan and I went to bios and enabled lan. Guess what, it would stop at the loading screen just like before.
Safe mode does not work either.
With lan turned off in bios, I went to Toshiba.ca and installed the Realtek-Network-Driver6.189.1213.2006 for Windows Vista (as they say this should work on win7 too). Enabled lan and it still didn't boot windows.
    What are my options?

I would need to make the Lan work.
You can obtain an ExpressCard for the LAN. Here are a few at NewEgg.
how do I flash the bios.
I'm assuming you have 32-bit Windows. This should work in Windows 7 as well.

  • Windows 8.1 shutdown options re: Bios

Am aware that 8 and its relation to Bios is different than other Windows versions.  If I shutdown or restart from Win8 interface, the intro has a nice screen for selection of operating system to my dual-boot.
If shut down through command, it appears to actually shutdown with following boot going through Bios and I have the Bios selection for operating system.
In the first case, where Windows starts quickly and sort of by-passes Bios - seems to me that the user is not getting an "actual shutdown" and that the machine is performing hibernating function of some sort.  For this reason, I have always
performed a full shutdown since the release of 8.
My question is: What is the best way to shut down the machine?
For security, I do not believe in leaving a computer running day and night.  For functionality, I do not believe in Sleep, Hibernate, or anything else that gets between me and a running OS.
Since there is a possibility that I might function fine and even better with shutdowns from within the 8 UI ... I'm looking for some honest feedback on that.  If have no information, which way do you shutdown and restart your Windows 8/8.1?
Other than quicker boot-times, is there any programming advantage to using the shutdown within the 8 UI?  How big are the vulnerabilities, when any next machine start-up is set to run within those new Bios standards?  Because it's kind of like
planting a bomb every time you shut down, and just hoping it doesn't explode on you the next day when you start up.  Will it default back to the original Bios startup if the other one fails?

    Hi,
You can create a small batch script that allows you shutdown /restart or put the computer to sleep.
refer to the following scripts :
    1. First, open notepad and type :
    shutdown -s -f -t 0
1.1 save the file and name it : PowerOff.cmd
    2. Open notepad and type :
    shutdown -r -f -t 0
2.1 save the file and name it : Restart.cmd
    3. Open notepad and type :
    shutdown -h
3.1 save the file and name it : StandBy.cmd
Place theses scripts files on your Desktop, then you just have to double clic on :
PowerOff.cmd : to power off your computer
Restart.cmd : to restart your computer
Standby.cmd : to put the computer to sleep
    A+

  • NF4U motherboard won't boot with Audigy 2 ZS or SB Live! Value instal

    Hello all,
I've got a bit of a weird problem. I've recently upgraded from an Abit IC7MAX3 motherboard with a 3.0GHz P4 to an Abit Fatalty AN8 motherboard with A64 3000+. Great system, but neither of my Creative sound cards will work with it.
When they're installed, the system refuses to boot, or it boots but Windows can't find the cards. It sits with an error code of 25, which means "enumerating PCI devices". I've tested other PCI devices in the board, and it's fine with them, it's just my two Creative cards that cause trouble.
I'd actually use the onboard sound, but I need the coaxial digital out that Creative provide on their cards to power my speakers - I'd rather not go spend another AUD$300 for equi'velent speakers that use SPDIF as their input.
Has anyone come across a similar problem?
    Cheers!

    Hi!
    Thank you for your suggestions!
"Hmm.. maybe it's a fault of Abit"
Possibly - I've posted on the Abit Fatalty forums, nVidia's nForce motherboards forum and on the Overclockers Australia AMD forum as well. I'm looking at all options...
"Have you try updating the BIOS and changing different PCI slots?"
Yep - I tried with the shipping BIOS, and also the latest available. I've also tried in both the PCI slots available to me (my video card blocks one of the PCI slots, so I only have access to 2 of the 3).
"Maybe you can remove all other cards in the system and just leave the sound card and video card in and see if it hel
    ps.
"That's all my system has in it.
"Also remember to disable your onboard audio from the BIOS as it tend to conflict with other sound card."
The onboard sound is actually on a daughterboard. I've tried with it installed and with it removed. There's nowhere in the BIOS to turn it off - I assume just removing the daughterboard is the only way to disable it.

  • 4530s DC CARD or USB BOOT not working even if it has this option in bios

i just posted a message but i think it's in the wrong section..
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-questions/sd-card-boot-and-usb-boot-not-working/m-p/9...
Hi, i just got a HP ProBook  4530s , I5 processor, Intel HD 3000 , i have a problem with it, i can't boot on any usb or sd card, i tried all linux versions i could find and also some live windows and bartPE, on my sd card i get the "Disk read error" as soon as i choose the booting device and on usb it goes a little bit further i can see the linux logo some processes starting and then same error related to write on disk, the sd card and usb are not in read only mode and on my other laptop a older one 6730s everything works...
Also all the usb and sd card work perfect in windows, when i boot from internal HDD.
Is there a fix for it??  Or can anybody that has this laptop test if it works booting from usb or sd card, maybe it's a problem with this unit..
i have tried all available bios verions and various usb devices but as i said the usb sticks all worked on my other laptop but not on this one.
Oh and also is there a bios option to stop virus check on boot? as far as i could test that is the only option in bios that is not there and i can't test with it ON/OFF.. any help would be apreciated because i can return the laptop for 30 days and i allready have it for one week. and i really need this option to work.
PS - sorry for my bad english but i'm from Europe

Yes, I've tried this. I pulled the power cable, waited two minutes, hit the CMOS button, and also removed the battery, and waited another minute.
After which, I loaded optimized defaults, but the problem remains.

The options set under your BIOS are all set,
       With that, try this
    Plug in your Bootable USB
Power ON your system then right away start hitting F12

    Hello,
normally the USB boot option is available and you can select the supported modi in the bios settings.
In a company environment it is possible to disable USB as boot device with some special tools. In this Case yo ushould ask your administrator.

  • Ideacenter and H520 Bios terrible boot options

So we implamented about 10 ideacenters and a few h520 towers into our office.  Come to find out the BIOS on these systems is absolutly terrible.  There is no way to boot off the CD drive or a USB drive.  We have one system right now with a password on it and I cant even boot of a disk or USB drive to wipe the password.  Any options for these things?  Why would lenovo put such a terrible BIOS on their PCs?

    Hi
    1) As per my uderstanding unit loads to Bios from F9 if correct go to System configaration Boot Options then set the USB to first.
    2) You can also try F8 option and check if unit loads to safe mode option.
    3) Remove any devices connected to the notebook.  Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
Then tap the F10 key to check if unit loads to Bios follow step 1
