Motion 1.0 on MacBook Pro 2GHz CoreDuo

Quick question. I installed Motion 1.0 on my new MacPro laptop. The application quits unexpectedly when I try to start a template or new project. There are no updates for it ... I can't update to 1.01 etc. So, I'm guessing that I need to purchase the 2.0 upgrade for it to work on the intel machine?
Thanks!

Your options are further complicated by the fact that there is no upgrade path from Motion 1.0 to 2.1 - If you're lucky and can purchase a standalone copy of Motion 2, you could go the $199 upgrade to full Final Cut Studio (or if you own FCP 4 or later)...
Here're your options: http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/

  • MacBook Pro 2ghz and 1366x768 HDTV?

    Can a MacBook Pro 2ghz drive a 1366x768 HDTV?
The Displays pane does show 1360x768, but this doesn't look good with a ldc tv with a native resolution of 1366x768.
I couldn't find any information on this in the AppleCare area. There is an item that says the Mac Mini (early 2006) can do 1366x768. Apparantly 1366x768 does show up in the Mac Mini Displays Pane. What about the 2ghz MacBook Pro?
Is this a hardware or software limitation?

I am connecting my MBP to a 50" panasonic plasma using dvi out from MBP to dvi in connection on TV using straight dvi to dvi cable. Video is stunning! For the audio out to my Marantz AV receiver I purchased an inexpensive adaptor to enable toslink to toslink connection for digital audio into receiver. DVD's play in 5.1 audio goodness! Google Ramelectronics for the adaptors and cables. Couple with VLC for video playback of most all formats. MediaCentral is also groovy, I'm still using the beta, haven't tried the paid version (doesn't support 5.1 audio but does support playing Video_TS folders on hard drive). This is a great setup for viewing IPTV content, avi files, etc. IMHO Front Row is buggy.

  • Macbook Pro (2GHz Core Duo) won't boot while ANY internal DVD attached

    15" Macbook Pro 2GHz Core Duo (2006-7)
    Hi all -
I'm having trouble with this macbook pro... it runs perfectly fine, as long as I do NOT attach any DVD-drive/Superdrive to the logic board (internal drives). However, if I attach the correct drive (confirmed working part) to the logic board... when I go to power it on, it attempts to start but almost instantly dies/turns off. You can hear the HDD start to spin up, but nothing else. If I hold the power button (like using the reset technique), it repeats that rapidly with a strange sound like the power is disrupted. Winding up sound... quickly, and repeatedly. Never powers on though and no screen response.
I'm assuming something is wrong with the connection site on the logic board, so I'm wondering what else I can do to have an internal optical drive. I notice a plug-in port (smaller) to the left. Is that a usable port with the right flex cable?? Or somewhere else on the board perhaps besides the connection site for the HDD? Thanks in advance.
    J

I actually don't know. It might be worth a close examination of the logic board socket with a good light and magnification. A poster on the PowerMac G4 forum found a tiny resistor in the RAM slot that was causing problems, and later found a missing resistor on one of the RAM sticks. Everything is a lot tinier on a MBP socket, but if you can spot any kind of foreign object that might be causing a short, you could attempt to blow it out with compressed air.
I believe there is a kit that allows you to replace the optical drive with a second hard drive. Don't know if the second socket is for that or something else. Just a speculation--I really don't know but it has to be there for a reason.
    Good luck!

  • Just recieved my (refurb) macbook pro 2ghz

i just got it today and it didn't have the whine this morning, but now it does
maybe i just didn't notice it before, but i don't think so. it's a pretty obvious noise...and it seems to be intermittent on my machine...
I live in hawaii, and all i can hear is the birds, and my processor whine...it *****.
but the computer is really great other than that.
the serial number starts with "RM621...", it doesn't seem to fit into the "W*" format i've been seeing for serial numbers.... anyone know what thats about? maybe cause its a refurb?
    MacBook Pro 2Ghz 15in   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
graphite ibook se 466   Mac OS X (10.4)

I'd imagine it was changed due to being a refurb.
What you're experience is common. Often times after updates or after re-installation of the software, many of the "operating noises" cease. The only evidence I can support is my own since I have had to reformat 2-3 times due to problems with running Boot Camp. I imagine it has something to do with resetting the PMU amongst many things.
I think the only 2 choices are to wait for an "official" fix, or to try to send it back again.

I have same mac...but motion works great.
May be you need to reinstall all system...
Also may be case in memory: you have a broken module.

  • Can't get motion to open on Macbook Pro

Sorry guys, I haven't seen all discussions, but I just can't get motion (and live type) to launch on my new Macbook Pro. Final cut does work (as does DVD SP, Soundtrack Pro, compressor). Tried everything, New installs, new OS 10.4.10, everything. Crazy problems. Anyone an idea? Thanks in advance! Here's a logfile:
    DNSServiceDiscoveryLookupServer(): {DNSServiceDiscovery.c:141} bootstraplookup() failed: $44e
    AELicensing: CFNetServiceRegisterWithOptions returned (domain = 1, error = 2)

    hi,
Motion does work on a macbook pro, coz I'm doing it right now! Do you have the intel version? Think it should work on older versions though.
that log file looks like it is trying to find the server for registration, for After effects? Not sure that has anything to do with Motion not booting up.
have you done the usual trashing of preferences and pList files?
    regards

  • MacBook Pro 2GHz heat problems

    Hello!
I just bought a MacBook Pro 15" 2GHz non multi-touch (before 1 week). I was so frustrated for not being able to buy it easy from my country but the pain was worthy I thought. Now after some work with it I notice it is very hot. I downloaded iStatPro I looked at the temperatures.
The processor usually stays at 55 to 60 celsius. When I do normal work it sometimes came up to 80!?!
When I am at my desk browsing I notice that the wood (or other stuff I don't know the english word) of my desk is being deformed because of the temperature.
I tried contacting the services via email but no one answered me in a couple of days.
So I have these questions I like being answered.
What is the normal idle temperature?
What is the normal operating temperature?
Is there a way to fix the problem in service or other way?
And is there a way to notify Apple that the local re-sales are making not a good name for Apple by being incompetent and slow?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are a couple of things that you can check if you are concerned. If the surface of your desk is being deformed by the heat, it sounds to me that your mac is running too hot. I have mine on my lap now, and it is just mildly warm.
Run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test. This is on Install Disc #1 of the gray discs that came with your computer. You hold down "D" to boot to the test--instructions are on the disc and the screen that comes up. This will test several things including the fans and the thermal sensors. If there is anything wrong, you will get an error code, which is indicative of a hardware problem.
The other thing that can happen is that some process will run amok in the background and hog the CPU and generate heat. The way to look for this is to open Activity Monitor, in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. Set the top box to show "All Processes" and the lower bar on "CPU". Then look at the CPU column and see if you can find some process running that shouldn't be that is using 50% or more of the CPU. If you do, highlight it and quit it. One example of a process that often causes problems is a printer process, but it could be just about anything. If you find such a rogue process, quitting it should bring down the temperature.
Also look at the two boxes showing CPU Usage. Under light use, these boxes should be mostly black. If you see a lot of green or red, something is going on.
Here are the temperatures for my MBP with 5 applications open:
    CPU A 52℃
    GPU Diode 58℃
    GPU Heatsink 51℃
    Heatsink A 52℃
    Heatsink B 41℃
    Enclosure Base 32℃
    Mem Controller 43℃
    Airport Card 53℃
    Left Fan 2000 RPM
    Right Fan 1995 RPM
One more thing to check--is the battery very hot? Mine is warm, but not hot--I can easily hold my hand on it. If yours is very warm, it might have a problem. As it happens, there were a number of defective batteries shipped.
I am not familiar with how to contact Apple in your part of the world. If you are unhappy with the service you are receiving, you could always write Apple at their corporate office:
    Apple
    1 Infinite Loop
    Cupertino, CA 95014-2084
    USA
    Good luck!

  • Looking for a free stop motion software for my Macbook Pro?

Sorry if this is in the wrong category; I am new here.
I'm currently working on a 40 minute stop motion film. I've experimented with various stop motion apps, but none of them fit what I need. I'm making the film in 9 parts, and I want to be able to export each video as a .mov file and later import into FCPX to make edits and combine everything. I have the audio completely recorded and I plan to take the pictures using my Macbook Pro's built-in webcam. (This film doesn't need to be very fancy; it's for my family.)
I'm looking for something free (not a free trial) and without a watermark. Each of the 9 parts is inbetween 3-8 minutes. What do you recommend?
    Thanks

I want to find a 1080p projector that I can connect my macbook pro to wirelessly and mirror what is on the screen... Or maybe a way to go about doing so, I knwo that you can mirror your iphone and ipad with ios 5 and apple tv...not sure on macbook pro? This might be too strange of a thing to be looking for but it would be so nice to eliminate wires from my life as much as possible...i.e. wireless headphones, printer, and projector (rather than a television) Anything help on this would be great! Thanks everyone!
You can do it, but are you prepared to spend? it won't be cheap. It may be cheaper than I thought.
You will need a projector with an HDMI input, and you will need a method of transmitting the HDMI signal, complete with all ancillary protocols (so HDMI 1.2 at least, 1.4 is safer) via wireless. That means way more bandwidth than 2.4 or 5G wireless can offer.
I have had success with the TruLink 60Ghz WirelessHD transmitter/receiver, 30ft range (20 is more 'real world') 1 hdmi in and 1 hdmi out, so they replace the cable. Last pair I bought were $600, but I just saw that Amazon have them available at $141 ....
However these are line of sight devices, no motion and no obstruction between the pair or fuzzzzzz

  • How much ram can a macbook pro 2GHz Intel Core i7 Handle

Wanting to upgrade my RAM and need to know how much it can handle. HOpefully someone can answer this for me

Be sure you buy from a reputable Mac-friendly supplier as Macs are notoriously sensitive to memory.  Two of the best are Crucial and OWC, http://www.macsales.com
They stand behind their products, have great support, and on-line videos on doing the installation.

  • What is the current AE firmware version for MacBook Pro 2Ghz Core Duo?

My losing connection every so often MPB shows:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 0.1.27

Good question. They basically said I needed to send it in for repair. Afterward I brought up the version and was told it would be up to date if Software Update was completed. I mentioned the difference between the version on my iMac and the MPB and was told that perhaps the MPB AE is defective and not updating. I am just curious to know what others have.

  • Insert motion keyframe on a macbook pro

Seems that command+k or option+k or whatever don't work - no shortcuts seems to work on this laptop, in this or any other programme...
    So how do I?
    Ta.

No keyboard shortcuts at all? In the Canvas do the j, k or l keys work?
Do you have keyframes set and are you in the Viewer? What is Cmd-K supposed to do?

  • The Motion problem in Macbook Pro

I am still waiting for Apple to fix the problem that appears to be between Motion 2 & 3 and MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0.
Meanwhile Motion is 100% usless, unless a reinstall of the entire OS X (anybody successfull with that?).
Today it's almost 4 weeks since Apple made public this problem. And like 3 weeks without any news or friendly solution about this. Check: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306038
It means that almost everybody with a new MacBook Pro and Motion 2 or 3 is not able to run this application.
    Notice this facts:
    1)Motion is a PRO Application.
2)MacBook Pro is a PRO Computer.
3)MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0 is recommended by Apple to all 2.2/2.4GHz MacBook Pro models (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookprosoftwareupdate10.html)
because it fixes important bugs on this computers.
4)This update fixes some problems, yes, but causes another: Motion crashes 100% of the time you try to use it.
5)The need of making an Archive & install of the OS X in order to undo the Update is by far one of the less friendly solutions ever seen by any user. And it's worse when you don't know for sure that it will work.
6)Pro users are the supposed target of MacBook Pro and Motion, and it is supposed that they have to be able to their job with that. The second part of the last sentence is not true.
7)The Software and the Hardware that appear to be in conflict are both wrote and designed by Apple, and the solution of this problem it only can come from Apple. The second part of the last sentence is, still, not true.
As owner of a MacBook Pro, and owner of a Final Cut Studio 2 suite I expect some kind of respect and attention from Apple. Not to mention a fast and simple solutions that helps me, not makes everything WORSE.
It will be cool to know how many MacBook Pro users are having the same problem with Motion. And how many of them do not accept the actual situation. How many of them want to demand to Apple a fair solution to this, at least some kind of information about HOW MUCH MORE WE HAVE TO WAIT.
Anybody knows any way to accomplish this?
I'm a big fan of Apple computers and applications, but I am not going to accept all this without demanding some kind of explanation from Apple and a real solution NOW!

Maybe I'll try the FW drive solution. Thanks for the idea!
I agree with you that maybe there is no way to make Motion Engineers to work faster, I hope this problem is in some kind of priority for the Motion Team and that they can find a way to fix it.
But what is bothering me here is that Apple is not giving public information about this. The only public official article about this problem hasn't been updated by Apple since 20 July. I think they have to know something more by today.
As user I want to know what is going on or how much I will have to wait for some solution. I don't want to accuse the Motion Engineers, that's not my intention. Because I think it's not their fault. Here the problem has had to be a lack of communication between Apple divisions.
I want to accuse Apple in the way this problem is being treated. Not giving enough information to its users. And that the whole problem could have been avoided if they had tested the update before publishing it.
Maybe you can say that it always has been like this with other problems, but I don't think it's the right way. At least is not what I expected from Apple.

  • FCP Studio HD now running on my MacBook Pro!

Having installed the latest version of Final Cut Studio HD yesterday (a crossgrade) on my new MacBook Pro (2ghz, 2g ram) I can say that things do seem to be much smoother and faster compared to the same setup om my iMac G5 (2ghz, 2g ram).
There are no noticable updates to the user interface but scrubbing on the timeline and rendering of effects, in particular the handling of HDV footage feels more responsive.
In Motion I noticed that particle effects preview much more smoothly also.
On the whole, although I have yet to really make this system "cook", it feels more responsive and smoother than my other system. So far, so good.
One note though, projects from older versions of FCP have to go through a format conversion process when opened in FCP 5.1. Projects created in FCP 5.1 cannot be opened in older versions of FCP. As someone pointed out this may be easy to work around using XML. If you are working on one platform this should not even be an issue.
    Wrighty.

Yes, have to say that so far I am well chuffed!
I am about to edit a feature length comedy film on the setu-up, so that will be a big test.
Just noticed that compressor also rips through encoding with much greater speed speed. Although I must say those MacBook Pro's give off some serious heat when being pushed. So keep em off your lap!
    Wrighty

  • MacBook Pro to a projector

MacBook Pro to a projector which works with an image of the desktop but when I want to play a movie or show photos the projector shows a blank screen. Any one help? Connected via Lightning / HMDI lead.

&otIt really depends on the projector. I do this all the time too but your mileage varies. The most consistent way to get it to work is to "mirror" the displays (function-F7). This seems to work for me about 80-90% of the time. When in normal mode (expanded - mirroring off) it works about 20% of the time.
you can also trying setup a very "dumbed down; resolution. 640x480 or 800x600 seems to work better on most older projectors. the display looks a little crappy but it is what it is.
The MBP has had projector issues from the start. I hope Apple addresses it some day.
I've compared the MBP side-by-side with my older Powerbook and a Dell laptop. Both of these machines will work flawlessly with most projectors but alas not the MBP.
    hope this helps.

Everytime i try to open iDVD, i select 'start new project' and the 'loading themes' bar appears and nothing else happens. I have never been able to get into the actual program properly.
When i was installing all the new updates when i first receieved my macbook, the computer crashed half way through so this might have caused the problem?
Either way, I trashed the program and then reinstalled i DVD from the original install disk and opened it (6.0.0) and i had the same problem. I then downloaded the software update (6.0.1) and again no difference...the rest of the iLife apps work perfectly.
    please help! thanks

no..still no difference after deleting those files. loading themes bar still wont go away! im going to do a system restart anyway and wipe off the hard drive because i copied all the files from my old 12 inch powerbook originally and i think the computer is clogged up and it def could be a lot faster. hopefully iDvd will work after that, too!
