Motion 2.0 won't open on Intel Zion

I have just purchased a new Dual Core Intel Zion running OS 10.4.1 - she's a beaut! Problem is that Motion 2.0 won't open on it. I have installed Final Cut Studio on it and all the other aps work great. I have reinstalled, upgraded everything (including Motion 2.0.1) but nothing fixes it.
When I open Motion it brings up the 4 initial options (Create New, Choose Template etc:) then crashes 2 seconds after making a selection. Does anyone know how to fix this?

You need an Intel version of Motion. 2.0.1 is a PPC version of Motion that won't run on your machine even under rosetta.
I'm a bit puzzled how you've got the other apps working though -are you still on FCS1?
For more info, try a search on this forum for the crossgrade that Apple offered for FCS users moving to Intel.

Motion 1.01 won't open on my new MacPro. Before I reinstall is there a problem loading this early verison on an Intel Mac? Does it have to be on a Power PC?
It probably has to do with something went wrong using Migration Assistant when I purchased my MacPro and transferred from an old G4 Power PC. In that case a reintstall will probably do the trick but I want to make sure that there are no problems loading on an Intel Mac.

Thanks I'm no longer confused. Since I recently purchased Final Cut Express HD before I knew about Motion 2.1; I think I'll learn this before stepping up to Studio. It may be all I need, although I was able to make some cool effects for my wife's business with Motion 1 and will miss it.

Motion 3 Inspector won't open

When working with Motion 3, the inspector will not open up. I've tried using the keyboard short cuts to see if there was a way around simply selecting it from the window menu. I've even gone as far as to put the filters buttons in the toolbar only to find that the drop menu's from those buttons will not even open?
Any advice or help would be GREATLY appreciated.

A search will reveal many of the same exact posts. Trash your preferences file for Motion, that should solve it.

Files Won't Open on Intel-Based Macs

We are running 10.4.11 on our Mac Pros at work, and on the two Intel-based machines you can't open any files simply by clicking on them---it merely launches the program that the files should open in and then you have to open the files from within that program directly. This happens with every program I've attempted to use: Preview, Photoshop, Office programs, etc. Anyone know of a fix for this?

Try running Disk Utility and Repairing Disk Permissions.
Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities folder. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid button, then click, Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished, Quit Disk Utility and reboot. See if you can open the applications now.

Motion 3 files won't open in Motion 4

I've just upgraded to Final Studio 3 which has Motion 4, but am now unable to open any Motion 3 files. In fact, Motion 4 doesn't appear to be working properly full stop. Any ideas out there?

Hi Patrick, thanks for replying and yes my original message is lacking in a little detail.
What's happening is that when I open a Motion 3 file, in Motion 4, the time line looks fine but there's nothing showing on the stage. All layers are active. Also when I open a new Motion project and try inserting text on the stage, there's nothing showing, however on the layer you can see the text. Even changing the text colour doesn't make a difference.
The same problem is on 2 different Macs, one was a completely fresh install of Final Cut Studio (v3) and the other was an upgrade from the previous version (v2).
On the fresh install Mac, I tried opening a Motion file before and after running the Application Support update. Same problem before and after.
Any ideas?

Motion 3.0.2 Won't Open at All

I have NO idea what's going on. Just yesterday it opened and worked fine. I just tried sending it a project from FCP today, and now the application won't open for any reason. When I try to open the application, it reads "Motion has quit unexpectedly." Then it gives me these details I've posted below. Any help would be great. I've got a client waiting to see something!!!

Motion can't find a framework it needs in order to launch. That could be because the framework is missing or because permissions are set incorrectly.
To fix this problem, try repairing permissions. If that doesn't work, reinstall Final Cut Studio or copy the file /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Helium.framework/Frameworks/HeliumRender.fram ework/Versions/A/HeliumRender from another computer with the SAME version of Final Cut Studio. Then repair permissions again.

Shouldn't be having a problem, then. That's the version for ML. Try taking your question to the Safari forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/safari - that's where all the Safari experts hang out.

Motion won't open/launch

Hello, I've seen other folks with this issue here but haven't been able to fix it yet.
I've just upgraded from an imac to a mac pro and reinstalled everything from a time machine backup. Now Motion won't launch/Final cut won't open existing files/I can't import Motion files in Final cut project.
Regarding motion: the program just fails to launch and I receive an alert. Opening the console and trying to launch I get this...

I have looked in the "PrivateFrameworks" folder and both "Helium" and "Livetype" frameworks are there.

I used migration assistant.
I've also called tech support which suggested I reinstall so I did. Now everything seems to be running properly so far:-)
Thanks for your help, I've learned that migration assistant doesn't really help for FCS but still saved me time with my other programs.

Motion 5 crash and won't open projects

Was working on a project when Motion crashed. Now that project won't open. I started a new project and it did the same thing. When starting, Motion does ask about restoring windows when booting. Happens on another computer as well. Any help?

Be sure you have the latest updates to Motion, the OS, and all your other apps via Software Update and the App Store.
Run Disk Utility to "repair" all hard drives.
Be sure all hard drives have at least 15% of the total capacity as free space.
Get the free "Preference Manager" app from Digital Rebellion (dot com) to trash Motion pref files properly an safely.
At worst, get the free "Final Cut Remover" app from Digital Rebellion to totally uninstall Motion, re-boot, then re-install from the App store.

HELP!!: Motion won't open.

Since downloading the 3.0.1 update, Motion won't open. Even after I reinstalled, nothing. Remove preferences and all the good stuff.
What gives?!?!

I'm on a new MBP with MBP Software Update 1.0: Can't use Motion 3 (it crashes all the time).
I'm not on the mood of reinstaling OS X and FCS 2 again. I don't have the time nor the patience.
Can anybody tell me WHY APPLE HAVEN'T FIXED THE PROBLEM?? I don't know, could they publish some kind of patch or update??? At least some kind of "undo" to uninstall that problematic MBP Software Update...
Since it is a problem Apple knows by July 13, 2007 (article ID 306038) I don't understand they haven't done anything aboutit !
Or is everybody at Apple on vacation or playing around with their new iPhones???
They should know that Pro Users are having big problems with this piece of s... software called Motion.

Motion 3 Won't Open After Installing

Hi,
I reinstalled Motion 3 after doing it 2 days ago because the beach ball keeps coming up and never leaves causing me to force quit. I let it stay up one night and when i awoke 8 hours later it was still up. thus, i reinstalled after trashing it. there's never any motion files in the library to delete and no motion files in the receipts. this time it won't open after installing it and booting down computer. I have lion 10.7.5 the fcp studio disk that i install for motion says version 3 but could have sworn on the computer when it was working it said motion 4. Any suggestions? did all my software updates too.

Motion 3 is part of Final Cut Studio 2. There are many threads on these boards about trying to get those apps to install properly on OS versions above 10.6.8. Here's one such thread. A search will bring up additional ones.

It's possible that you need new drivers from HP, in order to be compatible with OS X 10.8.3. Looking at HP website, they haven't released new drivers since last November. You might need to wait for new drivers or contact HP to push for an update.

Since installing Security Update 2008-004 (Intel) ProTools won't open

Hello,
I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on my mac, and since I installed the Security Update 2008-004 (Intel) every time I try to open ProTools the ProTools icon jumps up and down a few times and then it stops, the program won't open. Are there any similar issues with this update and any other applications? I'm 100% sure the security update is what caused the problem, nothing else out of the ordinary has happened since with my mac.
