Motion 2 Freeze Frame?

I'm following a tutorial on future frame fx step by step and now just got to the part where they go to Inspector and under Timing they choose Hold....well that is not there in my version of Motion. Is it somewhere else or not there at all? Is there another way to accomplish holding a frame of one clip over another clip playing normally in Motion 2?
I know an update will solve things but I'm not there yet.

I believe the Scrub filter was available in Motion 2. You should be able to use that to stop playback...

  • Make freeze frame without blur on motion

I want to make freeze frame on video but the problem is sign language signing make blur motion. I need to get sharp clear make freeze frame. Is there a way that can make sharp to make it freeze frame.
    video clip is 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Make freeze frame is for book so need to make motion clear? How?

Then there's not much you can do now.  It would have helped a little if you'd have used a high shutter speed on the video camera, but that's water under the bridge.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to find another frame where the hand wasn't moving then export both frames as s till image.  Open both in Photoshop and make a selection of the hand then copy that to the first still.

  • Slow motion, subtitles and extracting freeze frames

    hi friend,
had a few queries if someone can help.
    1) want to play a single clip in a project in slow motion. how can it be done?
    2) can subtitles of the voice be added? there are only three titles and only possibility to have one in a clip.
    3) can a freeze frame be exported as a photo to camera roll or photos? or can a still frame in a video be extracted as a photo and sent to the camera roll?
    thanx,

    1. You will need to buy an slow motion video app.
There are a few in the app store that slow down video that is already shot.
Export the slowed video to the camera roll, and use it in iMovie.
    2. Subtitling is not an option in iMovie.
You can add 'middle' titles, but using this to make subtitles would be slow, and add transitions which is anoying.
    3. There are apps that can make stills from video.
Or you can do a screen grab of the ipad; hold power and Home button.

  • FCP X / Motion 5 Drop Zone Video Freeze Frames Only!

Hmmm, well, I've followed the other discussions here regarding what appears to be an on-going issue with videos not playing (freeze frame only - usually the first frame of the clip) in a Drop Zone.  I'm using the latest versions of both FCP X (10.1.1) and Motion 5 (5.1).  I created a video generator in Motion with 15 drop zones for use in an open for a project I just started on.  These drop zones are sliding left and right in three bands across the canvas.  I can't get any of them to display moving video.  I've used drop zones before and had some success with getting video clips to play in them, but in this case I'm batting zero.
Has anyone found a way around this problem?  I may just import the videos into Motion and render them there since this open more than likely won't ever be used for any other project; nevertheless, I'd like to be able to use the Motion 5 template as it was designed to be used.
    Thanks.

The good news, Russ, is that I've made some progress!  To say that using Drop Zones can be a bit quirky is an understatement!  Nevertheless, your Pro Res hint seems to have fixed my issue.  I've been recutting the clips from the master archived files and saving them as Pro Res 422.  The file size is considerably larger that the H.264 files, but since it works I guess I won't argue that point!  :-)
I need to do a bit more investigation of this next point, but it also seems as if I need to move a frame or three into the clip before inserting it into the drop zone.  I had just been taking the clip and dumping it in as is.  When doing that I noticed that in some cases the clip either didn't play (freeze frame) or it started at some random (or at least what seemed to be random) location within the clip.  However, since I moved the start point in 2 or 3 frames (end point doesn't seem to matter) so far, at least, the clip plays every time and starts from the proper point.
I don't know if this mattered or not, but I completely deleted the library with the project and event that I was originally trying to edit to.  Since it wasn't working anyway there is nothing lost and I felt it was worth starting the project "fresh", so to speak.
So far I've only re-clipped and inserted 5 of the 15 drop zone videos but for now, at least, they are all working!
Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

  • Match frame from a freeze frame back to its motion clip?

I can't get back to the motion clip I used to pull my freeze frame. It only goes back to the freeze frame master clip, even if I use match frame to source file. Any ideas?

The freeze frame you pulled from a clip should have the clip name and timecode from where it was grabbed from.
Go back to the source video clip at the matching timecode and you will find where you grabbed it from.

  • I'm getting wavy lines on my freeze frame

I've made a freeze frame of a shot looking through an open door. The door frame is in shot. I have added a slow zoom to the freeze frame using motion. As it zooms in the straight lines of the door frame start to go wavy.
    What's going on?

That is interlacing. Go to the VIDEO FILTERS>VIDEO and add the DEINTERLACE filter to that.

  • Converting freeze frame to jpeg

Needing to convert a frezze frame image to a jpeg....
How do I get it out of FCP and into Phootshop?

I hope you're not assuming you have to make a freeze frame first, and then make a still-- it's not necessary.
Park the playhead on the frame you want to export, then File>export>quicktime conversion>still image>pick your flavor.  I like Tiffs or psd's for photoshop.
Select those frames carefully-- try to have as little motion as possible in the frame so you don't have to de-interlace in photoshop.  you lose half the vertical resolution when you do that.

  • I want to add smooth transitions without freeze frames?

I usually edit wedding videos with various short clips.  I want to be able to add default transitions to all of the clips at once.  When I do add transitions to all most clips have freeze frames. I've heard about handles, and having enough frames for the transitions but my clips are already as
short as they need to be.  I do not want to have to crop each clip.  I want to have transitions run between clips not at the start of the 2nd clip.  I've used pinnacle before and the transitions are always in between clips.  So i am wondering if there is an easier way to set up transitions.

I would also suggest  change your shooting style if you intend to use transitions or have flexibiltiy for your edits.
They are full clips. As shot. I only shoot what I need and I can't afford to crop from what I already have.
In my opinion its impossible to shoot exactly the duration required  with the exception of animation / stop motion...  and be able to pace and structure an edit.
Especially a Wedding video which is basically a documentary on the wing!

  • Freeze frame in the middle of a clip?

For an instructional DVD, I need to be able to freeze a frame in the middle of a clip, without the sound (as I'll put up some text messages).
I've ended up making copies of the clip, and using the hold condition, and trying to line them all up by hand, but this doesn't seem like an ideal way to do this.
Also, is there an easy way to turn off the sound for the 'hold' part of the end of a clip? Would be nice if there were a boolean I'd overlooked, but I guess I'll have to open my "Spencer's" Motion 4 book, and try to remember how audio keyframing works?

As mentioned by others, it's best to perform this effect in FCP. Bring your Motion project back into FCP and place the playhead where you want to freeze the frame. Press shift/n to create a still image in the Viewer. Blade the clip at the playhead and perform an insert edit to add the freeze frame. Cutting out the audio in FCP is easy as well and there's several ways to go about it. I would simply blade the audio at the freezing point and drag the remainder of the audio to snap to the point where the motion starts up again, depending on the type of audio effect you are looking for.
Although there aren't any behaviors in Motion that affect audio in that fashion (except for Audio fade in/out behavior) you can still edit the audio somewhat in Motion. Just go to the Audio Editor Tab and adjust the levels there or press ⌘6 to reveal the Audio Tab then right click the audio file to duplicate the audio file, set an out point for the first audio clip in the Audio Editor Tab where you want it to freeze, note the frame, and on the duplicated audio file set the in point at the same frame that was set for the first audio clips out point, then place the duplicated audio clip were you'd like the audio to resume.

  • Capturing freeze frame from video source

    Guru's,
I need to extend a video clip another 2 seconds. Easiest way would be to take a freeze frame of the last frame and extend that out for 2 additional seconds. How do I get that freeze frame out of the video clip that is being used in my motion timeline?
    Thanks!

That's not the easiest way. Go to the Properties tab of the Inspector. Open the Timing section at the bottom. Set the End Condition to Hold. Now in the miniTimeline, extend the clip for as long as you need.

  • Freeze frame glitch- text tracking?

OK, I have made some custom title generators in Motion, but sometimes I need to extend them (without extending the animation speed on the front end) so I add a freeze frame.  After upgrading to 10.1.1, I've noticed that sometimes- not every time- the freeze frame renders the text with squished tracking.  The generator renders and displays fine, but once it hits the freeze frame, it's squished.
    Any ideas/thoughts?

You are correct. You would turn OFF Roll, so that you have a still Title. Then in Effects Control Panel, you would Keyframe the fixed Effect>Motion>Position over time. Let's say that you wish the Title to "roll" from offscreen below. Set the initial Keyframe to that Position, and then decide when you want the Title to pause. Set another Keyframe to that that point on the mini-Timeline, and alter the Position to that desired. Decide how long you want it to "hold," and then set another Keyframe there, leaving the Position alone. Then, go to the end of the Title and set one last Keyframe on that last Frame. Alter the Position to be off-screen at the top. Done.
You can "smooth out" the motion, by adding Bezier controls to each Keyframe. Choices like Ease-Out, and Ease-In will probably work fine. Rt-click the first Keyframe and choose Ease-Out. Go to the next Keyframe (the initial part of the "hold") and Rt-click, choosing Ease-In. Go to the next Keyframe (the end of your "hold"), Rt-click and choose Ease-Out. You probably do not need the Ease-In for that last Keyframe, but if you find that that last "move" is not smooth enough for you, just Rt-click and choose Ease-In.
The little "arrows" in the Keyframe Header will allow you to easily step forward and backward, from Keyframe to Keyframe.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - before you do the Keyframes, set the Duration for the whole Title first, or you will probably need to move your Keyframes about.

  • Freeze Frame issues: two questions

    Hey there,
This is quite a specialised question, but anyway...
I have some freeze frames in a project in FCP HD 4.5 (a ntsc, dv project). These frames look fine when they play on the cinema display.
However, when I output to DVD, the freeframes have a flickering double image - it look likes an interlace issue. Can anyone explain to me why there's no problem on the monitor and there is on the TV, and whether deinterlacing all the frames in FCP will help?
Related: in a second project, I have freezeframes that disappear completely when the piece is outputted to a Quicktime movie (to go to DVD). In the QT movie they are black. I have no idea what the issue is there - does anyone know?
    Anyway, thanks for your help!
    Best
    Richard

Read up on interlace, the FCP manual has good explanations of most basic video info.
Your fields are likely reversed. Since your LCD is unable to display interlacing, it does one of two things: either 1) ignores every other field, or 2) displays both fields at the same time.
I believe Cinema Display output does #1 in most modes, giving you a relatively soft picture with no sign of interlace. I don't have FCP up right now, but I believe if you pick the "raw" display it will show every pixel (as in #2) and therefor every field. In this mode you might see a slight double image on fast motion and when paused.
In any case no LCD that I know of can display an interlaced signal properly. If you want true monitoring of an NTSC, PAL, or other interlaced signal, you need to feed it to a CRT.
As to your second question, I don't know the answer specifically but understand that freeze frames don't make it through Media Manager. Because of this I have never used that function. Instead I export the frame, reimport as a still.
    Hope some of this helps.

  • Freeze Frame Rendering Problem

I have a problem with the rendering of freeze frames that are part of a one-hour video I created in Final Cut Express 4 when burning the video using iDVD.
I'm exporting the video from FCE to a non-self contained Quicktime movie which I then drop into my iDVD template. One or two of the freeze frames (5 10-second freeze frames and 5 5-second freeze-frames) end up with a vibrating horizontal motion.
This does not occur when I play the video file in Quicktime -- the freeze frame is solid as a rock. I've burned the DVD using all three "quality" settings in the iDVD project settings, from "best performance" to "professional" quality. Every burn ends up with a vibrating freeze frame when played from the DVD.
All the rest of the video is beautiful. I'm not sure if this is a rendering problem or some other setting issue in iDVD. All help or suggestions appreciated.
    Mike

IMHO, the best thing you can do is keyframe some motion on your freeze frames. In all likelihood, you are dealing with an interlace issue. A TV screen use an interlaced signal where one line is drawn quickly followed be the second. In motion video, you will never notice interlacing. On a freeze frame however, you will certainly be able to see it. If you add some motion (Ken Burns effect), you can minimize this. You could try keeping the freeze frame... frozen and use a de-interlace filter.

  • Freeze frame problems

I have some freeze frame images in my video and when I imported it to DVD studio pro the freeze frames looked awful. On the TV screen they seem to shake back and forth really quickly. Is it some kind of interlacing problem? How can I make the still frames look good on the TV screen?

Video is interlaced, consisting of two fields that make up one frame. When you view a freeze frame on a progressive scan monitor, like your computer monitor, you'll only see one field. But if you view on an external, interlaced TV monitor, you'd see the problem right away ... which is but one of the reasons why it is strongly recommended that you always have an external monitor connected to view your work WHILE editing in FCP.
You can either choose another frame that didn't contain much motion differences between the two filed, or deinterlace the frame you chose.

  • FCP Monitor only freeze-frame

I am trying to monitor my FCP work on an external monitor.  Here is the hookup:
MacPro -firewire - Panasonic tape deck (AG-DV100P) - S video - JVC broadcast monitor (TM-H150CG)
I believe I have all the settings right and there is a nice picture on the monitor, BUT - while there is normal motion on the FCP canvas the monitor only has a freeze frame.  It will show whatever frame the timeline stops on but will not show the motion of the clip.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Sounds like you are trying to monitor HD video. You need a capture/ playback card (Blackmagic etc) to do this.
