Motion 3 rendering and Slow time Soooo frustrating..
Hello, I recently upgraded to Motion 3. I have all my programs closed and am running a 2g 2.16mgz mac book pro. I have it attached to 1 monitor. my question is what is it that I am doing that is making it run soo slow that I want to punch the screen. I have the resolution turned down to third. I did all the other things people said to do to make it run quicker (reduce the time line....) And still even once I do a ram preview and then I go to play it, it runs sooo slow and then I just wind up having to do a preview again. I have a really important project do and I cant let this happen. How do I get it to run like it doesn't take the small bus to school??? WHen I bought the upgrade (oh yeah I even did the online upgrade as well) I was told at the store my computer would have no problem handling it. So what is it that is causing this?
I did that still running like molasseses. Even when I go to click on something in the time line to adjust the time.....wheel........then I click it and highlight it.....wheel..... then move it......wheel.....then go to play it.......choppy then render preview.....wheel...then render preview again and try to play back.....wheel...then it plays...then I go to click another piece in the time line and the circle continues. I am surprised that apple would release a product knowing there are problems like this

Hi guys - need help if possible since I'm not into hardware all that much...
I have a few problems when using Premiere Pro CS6 which resulted in thinking of buying a new computer:
1) Exporting a one hour full HD video takes about 23 hours (no effects except color correction)
2) When making a color correction it is impossible to preview it on timeline even in 1/4 resolution - video starts to jitter so I have to export it to realize that some scenes are too dark, too light, too something, etc. And, as said, it takes around 23 hours... So this makes it 46 hours...
3) Using a multicam view is extremely jerky and so - pretty useless
All in all - I need a computer with a lot more muscle. So, I went through many forum discussions, read on the Internet, blah, blah.. and decided to build a PC rather than MAC since I get more "bang for the buck" when considering the same budget (around 3000$). Speaking of this, please consider that I live in Croatia and 3K$ here are not the same as in USA or many parts of Europe - it's a little more pricey here...
So, here's the setup so review it if you're into hardware and CS6 compatibility/optimization and please comment/advise, having in mind the problems I have previously stated out.
Just one thing - please, please, please don't get too complicated because I really don't know that much about hardwareing and I'm pretty fed up with exploring hundreds and hundreds of posts, opinions, forums, etc....
Make it simple - is it a good choice or not for CS6 workflow and which component should I potentially change for a better one (but staying in budget).
I use Premiere for editing full HD videos (sometimes I get nearly 500GB of raw material) and I frequently use After Effects for various animations.

Raid setup and other problems,soooo frustrating.

I have tried and tried to search for a problem like mine here and i have found bits and pieces but nothing which has really helped yet.I have just built my first pc and these are my problems at this point.
My deal is....ok first i have only a single hard drive at the moment but i want to be setup for raid 1 when i get another one soon.I understand that this means loading the drivers during the whole f6 part.Unfortunately when inserting my formatted driver containing floppy and pushing enter-nothing happens? it just says to wait for maybe half a second and then the screen comes back up asking for the floppy again.I have confirmed that the floppy drive works in another computer and my new computer is recognizing it.Its possible im not making the driver disc correctly -possibility.
Well, after fooling around with that for hours i decided hmm i dont like raid so much now so i disabled raid in bois and went ahead and tried to start insalling windows.Started off everything working and seemed fine,I formatted the Hdd for like an hour and then i was prompted that the computer would restart and setup would continue upon restart...ok.Now once it restarts it just acts as though i never even started??? it just starts right back over again asking me to format the HDD again!! Which i just spent an hour doing!!??
This thing basically has me fed up,im kind of a newb at building pc's but i feel as though i know enought not to have problems like this.All in all i would like to be setup for raid but it is not crucial,if anyone can guid me to getting this thing working any way around i would appreciate it,thanks in advance!!Quote
Ok-yes i have the 4 pin plug which fits the top half of the 12v 8 pin recepticle, i knew i could do this but was informed it wasnt the best idea..I will try it.
There should be no problem. I just want to make sure that the CPU draws its currents from the power rail "expected" by the PSU. Remember, yours has two seperate +12V-rails. Only one of them supplies the processor. If your video card and your processor are supplied by the same power rail, you will run into problems for sure.

Did you repeat the install attempt after that and tried without reformating the HDD (again)? -
Very slow Rendering and Exporting

I switched to Premiere CS6 from FCP 7 after FCPX came out and haven't looked back. In a lot of ways, it's much better for certain tasks.
In others, it's not. Initially playing back "red-lined" content worked fine and i was able to view the edit before I committed to render/export.
Now, I see every 10 frames or so and it skips and stutters. Rendering and exporting times have spiked dramatically over the past month
for some unknown reason. I have a small prod company and we're using Mac Pro's (8-Core) with min of 16GBs of RAM in each.
I know there are 101 factors that go into export time, I'm just wondering if anyone if encountering the same issues.
I just pieced together a 10-min video in FCP7, all ProRes files with minimal cutting and it exported in 2.5 minutes.
The same project on Premiere was telling me 3 hours. I don't get it.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

DanRendering times are not decided purely on the length of the video.
The type of effects you have added have more impact.
Also you cannot always trust the estimated time you are given.
Have you let it render for about an hour to see whether the estimate drops dramatically? -
Do you have any ideas why Motion 5 would run slow on a computer? I have an Imac with 8Gigs of ram, and plenty of hard drive space, but it still gives me the beach ball when I add a few lights and effects. I'm at the end of my rope.
You probably don't really need 1080 at 60 for your finished projects but since you're just starting out with Motion, you need to lower your expectations. A long way. 1080 is about 2 million pixels per frame, DV is only about 400,000. That's not just five times as many pixels for the Mac to track; everything in video is exponential.
Explore the training tutorials available by Mark Spencer. You will get an idea of how his super powerful machine reacts with the software.
Adding a light roughly doubles the processing time over flat scenes. Two lights increases processing again. Reflections require processing the lights and then calculating the reflections so add another quarter of the time required for flat scenes. Add camera movement, motion blur, and depth of field and you need exponentially more processing time for every frame. The preload of renders into RAM is one of the cooler features of Motion, as comapred to After Effects, but that takes tons of time, to.
Try working in ye olde DV resolution for a few days. Get to know the software's limitations and what gets imposed by your Macintosh. Step up to 720p/30 and see how things slow down. -
FCE / Motion - Terrible Rendering Times
I have a 25 second PAL Motion title sequence - it takes 1 minute to RAM preview in Motion (and about 4 minutes with motion blur enabled). That's fine.
I've added the motion project to a FCE sequence and it's taking around 9 hours to render the 25 second clip. This can't be right!! Any ideas as to what I've done wrong?

I didn't really say it's something you should be doing. I'm very specific in using proxies and placeholders when they save time or frustration. I use Motion and LT projects when convenient. The decisions are all specific to the instance.
Sounds like the integration between the apps is not quite all that the Apple marketing people would have us believe. < </div>
That's not true at all, the integration totally rocks. It's your expectations and your workflow that need to be properly designed.

I often do this, too. If it's golden, it gets rendered. If it's still in approval stages, it gets rendered to lower rez or it gets brought in as a proxie. If we're perfecting the timing, of course it gets brought in as a project file for the set of interactivity options to be exploited.
It takes many wasted hours to get the hang of how you work with your machines and your clients. Your experience with the applications drives many of these decisions and the routes you take. There are no cut and dry best practices, there are only evolving pathways.

I just installed OSX Lion (10.7.2) and updated to the newest version of Logic express (9.1.5) on a macbook and every time I playback audio I get this error message: [Disk is too slow or System Overload. (-10010) The Sudden Motion Sensor may have parked the hard drive head, or the disk performance is not sufficient to read or write all audio tracks, or the system was not able to process all data in time]
Never had any issues before now... any ideas?Have a look into the Preferences folder (YourUserFolder/Libraries/Preferences/) and trash all Logic preferences.
You'll have to setup the program again.

FIRE FOX USED TO BE A FAST BROWSER BUT IT IS GETTING SLOWER AND SLOWER. THE BLUE-E IS ABOUT TO THE POINT OF BEING FASTER THEM THE FOX. TIMES AS FAST AS THE FOX LATELY ON LOADING PAGES.For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "Step 1 done" to appear below what you entered. The output of the command will beautomatically copied to the Clipboard. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-Vagain. Please don't copy anything from the Terminal window. No typing is involved in this step.
Step 2
Remember that you must be logged in as an administrator for this step. Do as in Step 1 with this line:

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
You can then quit Terminal. Please note:
☞ Steps 1 and 2 are all copy-and-paste — type only your login password when prompted.
☞ When you type your password, you won't see what you're typing.
☞ If you don’t have a password, set one before taking Step 2. If that’s not possible, skip the step.
☞ Step 2 might not produce any output, in which case the Clipboard will be empty. Step 1 will always produce something.
☞ The commands don't change anything, and merely running them will do neither good nor harm.
☞ Remember to post the output. It's already in the Clipboard. You don't have to copy it. Just paste into a reply
☞ If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output of either command, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
☞ Don't post the contents of the Terminal window.

Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:

If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.

About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Get Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. Synk Pro
6. Tri-Backup

Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later

Boot and shutdown time is much slower
Running a MB Pro with 4gb of RAM. The boot and shutdown times are considerably slower. Any ideas?
Do you have the machine set to auto-login? Or does it boot to the login window? If it is set to auto-login, how long does the machine take to get to the blue screen? How much longer does it take to get from the blue screen to active desktop?
How long does it take to shut down? What applications are running when you shut down the machine?
