Motion 3 Terrible Performance On Best Hardware Supposedly

I realise that there is another topic earlier down that has been knocking this question about a bit already.
On a fairly straight forward project using FCS2 I am stuck with an unresponsive and regularly crashing Motion 3. Why is this? Apparently the updates do not work. What should I do?
Can anyone confirm that Motion 3 now works as it should on a machine of my spec? What did you do? I am reluctant to go for any updates unless someone can helpfully suggest that it works well for them.
Pleasingly, DVDSP, FC, Soundtrack, Compressor all work like a dream and really move in a lovely creatively positive manner. Motion 3 - after a short time has all the promise and easy-to-grasp beauty of a true mac product, but doesn't WORK due to freezing, crashing etc.
If only it would. I have the best (almost) laptop available. I count myself very fortunate, but why oh why will this little baby not deliver when it most counts?

Something sounds wrong so do all the updates - a lot has been fixed.
If you still get a problem, reinstall Motion.

  • 11'' MBA (Late2010) and Excel 2011: Terrible performance.

After 15 years using Windows, I bought my first Mac a little more than a month ago: an 11" MBA (Late2010).
It came with Snow Leopard installed, but since I updated it to Lion as soon as I got home, I don't have any experience with other OSX releases (for comparison sake). Since then I did a clean Lion install because of all the problems (crashes, freezes, hangs, wifi, etc).
The main problem however is Excel's terrible performance, because it's the application I use most for work. In the best case scenario it's slow and goes all the way to unusable slow in some situations. This same problem happens with Word, but I don't use it much. Outlook and Powerpoint work fine.
Is this the expectable performance in this MBA model or is it a software issue? Does it work better with Snow Leopard?
(I'm using Lion 10.7.2 and Office for Mac 2011)

I wonder if I'm having a similar issue. I did a clean reinstall of lion too and found that after I really started working the computer, running iMovie, Mail, Preview and Excel all at once, the machine would slow to a terrible slug-crawl. The busy icon would pop on with every mouse click and nothing much would happen until I managed to get things safed, restart and try again. The same thing would happen again, eventually, but usually I could get my work done.
With some help here, I managed to find a couple of things that were making matters worse, but my performance is still a good bit less snappy than it was with Snow Leopard.
I wonder if going back to Excel 2004 would help. Not sure. Come to think of it, I doubt that 2004 would run, since it probably has some PowerPC code in it. Hmm. Going back to Snow Leopard is a thought, but what fun is that?
I'm sure this post was not much help, but I thought I might let you know that it's not just you. <grin>

  • JEditorPane setText 2MB HTML --- Terrible Performance !!! (65 seconds)

I'm trying to load an HTML file that is large approximately 2MB (1927KB for the sake of precision) into a JEditorPane, and it takes about 65 seconds, it seems to be a bug of the JTextPane/JEditorPane, i have read also several articles on the web like [this one|http://java-sl.com/JEditorPanePerformance.html] , but i couldn't find a solution ...
    Here's the code that i use :
    final String htmlContent = //Load a 2MB String
    previewPane.setContentType("text/html; charset=UTF-8");
    previewPane.setText(htmlContent);
The setText method takes about 65seconds to get completely executed as you can see in my application log :
Set the html content(1927KB) of the Preview pane, loading time=68230ms
Set the html content(1927KB) of the Preview pane, loading time=62693ms
Set the html content(1927KB) of the Preview pane, loading time=66583ms
Is there a way to solve this problem ?
About 65 seconds to load 2MB of Text is a terrible performance on an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz with 8GB of DDR 3 RAM ...

Remember that this data not only needs to be loaded, it also needs to be interpreted and rendered. I have a sneaky suspicion that the slowdown is actually in the rendering part. It is not a huge amount of bytes - it is a huge amount of HTML content that needs to be processed. Modern browsers can cope with that no problem, but JEditorPane is not a browser.
It could be a performance issue, but that won't help you anything. Even if you would create a bug report it probably won't ever get a high enough priority that it will be considered for fixing; Swing isn't exactly actively developed anymore. On top of that I always saw the HTML capabilities of JEditorPane as a novelty really; nice that an attempt has been made to make it somewhat easier to load formatted text into it, but don't start treating or making expectations of it like you would of a web browser.
There is a test you can do. Assuming you are running under Windows, try turning off Direct3D and see if that influences the performance. In other discussions I have seen that the rendering of text is actually a performance hog when hardware rendering is enabled, for whatever reason. You do this by starting Java with the following command line switch:
    -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false

  • Seeburger EDI Adapter with terrible performance problems

    Hi,
we installed seeburger edi adapter on PI 7.1 and we have terrible performance problems:
We have a mail sender adapter polling a mail account.
Till the message is visible inside integration engine it takes sometimes 1-2 minutes or longer.
We already tuned the j2ee-engine and checked the DB-indexes (there are some OSS Notes) - no success.
We think that the problem is inside the DB-tables of Seeburger an that some indexes are missing (Oracle DB).
    Any ideas?
    Thanx
    regards
    Wolfgang Hummel

    Hi,
I think in PI 7.1 SAP installed their own Java-VM (compatible with Sun 1.5) - is it true?
Do you have the same performance problems inside the adapter?
The adapter is like a black hole and it take sometimes one hour till you can see a message inside the integration engine (sxmb_moni).
    Regards
    Wolfgang

    HI,
For your home testing you might need a latest technology to get a smooth and fast installation. i7 processor might be the ideal with memory at least 8GB. if you're planning to have more than 3 VMs running at the same time than you need 12-16GB memory at least.
From my experience installing on vm and allocated memory 2.5GB each VM the installation could take 15-30minutes
    Cheers

  • Terrible performance since upgrading to the latest version of Firefox.

Since upgrading to the latest version of Firefox, have been experiencing terrible performance. I have websites load time increase of even hesitate in loading. Also I keep getting the error that my Adobe Flash is not current, even after re-installing the Adobe Flash several times.
    Laptop configuration:
Lenovo Thinkpad E530 core i5 processor with 8 GB Ram running on Windows 8.1 Pro.
I am seriously considering dumping Firefox which I have been using since 2.x and going back to MS Explorer which I hate. Any help with these performance issues would be greatly appreciated.

  • Best hardware/OS for Photoshop CS5

    Hi there,
i want to build a new PC, optimized for Photoshop CS5, with Windows OS.
Can anybody tell me the optimal hardware configuration to make Photoshop as fast as possible?
The program is primarly used for poster design.
    how much ram makes sense?
is there a noticeable speed increase using 8GB instead auf 4GB?
is there a noticeable speed increase using quad-core/six-core CPU instead of dual-core?
is there a noticeable speed increase using GTX460 Graphic Card instead of a GTS450?
what is the best hardware for photoshop CS5?
what OS can you suggest me? is win7 64bit the best windows os?
    Thank you for your support!

    Windows 7 64 bit professional.
8 gigs of RAM because it is dirt cheap and Photoshop loves RAM. Most motherboards allow more RAM if you wish to update.
Don't know about Nvidia cards. I use a ATI 5870. Video card drivers play a important part. But the Nvidia card suonds about Right.
4 core is fine. 6 cores I don't own yet but maybe next year.
I use AMD processor 4 core on my main rig. AMD uses motherboards that can be used over and over for most processor updates and just require a bios update. The Newer AMD processors due out soon may need a new AMD3+ board but that is not official so the AMD2 boards may work saving money.
Intel's are nice but everytime Intel comes out with a new processor line the board is always different.
I run a i720 on my laptop and PS runs great.
Buy a good power supply that will have extra power incase you upgrade later. Don't buy cheap power supplies.
At least a 7,200 RPM hard drive. Get 2 internal ones. One for your OS and programs and one for PS scratch disk and storage.
    Quality DVD burner.
Motherboard is up to what you want with the processor type. AMD or Intel. Read up on the internet and also the websites you buy from for customer reviews.
Look at SSD's with TRIM support for a boot drive too. These have reallycome down in price. Use a hard drive for a scratch disk. Get a velocity raptor that spins at 10,000 RPM. 600 gigs are offered now at a cheap price.
I am sure others will chime in.

  • What is my best hardware/software to convert vhs to digital so I can edit in Final Cut Pro X

What is my best hardware/software to convert vhs to digital so I can edit in Final Cut Pro X?  Wondering if there is a solution under 100.00 or do I need to think a bit more. Thank you.

Have been doing this for some time, my setup:
I use an ancient "Symphonic" VCR player connected to an Elgato Eyetv Hybrid USB dongle.  That plugs into my G5 Mac, 10.5.8, which runs Eyetv software v. 2.5.3.
Recording is dead simple after fiddling around a bit with software settings for channel, etc.  Start the player, hit "record" on the software and wait for the end.
The recording is saved in some obscure ".eyetv" format with file size about 4 GB per hour of recording.  The software has export to a variety of formats including QT Movie which results in a substantially larger file size.
Quality?  Well, it's viewable and usable for archive purposes.  I'm fine with it but more discriminating folks may want something better.  I end up burning the video on a DVD using iDVD and that's not the greatest anyway.
There are various Elgato units available, and the Eyetv Hybrid seems to run bout $130.
    Hope that helps.

  • Terrible performance when using lightroom

I have recently downloaded Photoshop CC, Bridge and Lightroom 5.2 64 bit and am suffering with terrible performance issues.  Initially both photoshop and lightroom worked really well but after only a couple of days and only a few hundred images being imported into lightroom I can no longer use lightroom.
The computer works fine prior to me opening lightroom, I can use all programs, open files and folders with no issue.  However as soon as I have opened Lightroom then the whole system grinds to a hault.  Lightroom is unresponsive and the rest of the system practically freezes, it took over an hour to open a folder containing roughly 100 JPEGs.  When closing the laptop I have to manually close background programs because they are also unresponsive.
The computer has 6Gb RAM, 500GB HDD and a dual core processor so there is ample power to cope with this program on my system.
Could you please reccomend a resolution to these performance issuse.

The Adobe website has a bunch of recommendations for improving performance. Make sure you have your cache sizes right, enough free space on your drive, make sure you have the catalog and related files on the same and fastest disk. Check your preferences to make sure you're rendering appropriately sized previews. If LR is trying to generate previews that you  might not have, start Lightroom before you go to bed, let it do its thing (or force it to recreate the previews), and see how it looks in the morning. That's probably at least a good starting point. You should also be able to use your task manager or equivalent to confirm that it's Lightroom.

  • Terrible performance after moving VM's to new hardware

We recently decided to purchase a new server to run our VM's on since the old one did not have redundant drives. Unfortunately our new and improved server has resulted in far worse performance now that I've moved the VM's over to it! I am not really sure
why, but can only assume it is to do with the drive configuration.
Basically when the VM's are running on the new virtual server host, it takes a long time just to login to the VM's (with our without a roaming profile). General use once you are logged in seems OK, but it is much slower than before. We have a DC as one of
the VM's and when it was on the new server it was taking a very long time to provide AD group membership information resulting in some applications that request this information to perform very badly. As a result, I had to move that VM back to the old server.
The new server has the following specs:
    Dell PowerEdge R620
    2x Xeon E5-2630v2 2.6GHz processors
    64GB RAM
PERC H710 integrated RAID controller, 512MB NV CACHE
    6x 1TB 7.2K RPM 6Gps SAS 2.5" HDD
O/S (C drive) configured on RAID 1 using 2x 1TB drives, GPT partition
Hyper-V storage (D drive) configured on RAID 10 using 4x 1TB drives on 2 spans, GPT partition on simple volume in Windows formatted with 64KB cluster size
Running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter R2 with Hyper-V
The old server has the following specs:
    Dell PowerEdge 2950 (2007 model)
    2x Xeon E5335 2.0GHz
    24GB RAM
    Unknown RAID controller
4x 300GB 15K SAS drives running with NO RAID. Each drive holds 2-3 separate VM's.
Running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter with Hyper-V
The new server is currently only running 6 VM's and already displaying the performance problems. We have over 10 VM's that need to be hosted ideally. The current 6 VM's which are running include our production Exchange 2010 server (only 10 staff with an
80GB VHD), Windows Update Server (100GB VHD), SQL 2000 server with limited use (100GB VHD), FTP server with minor use, build server for .NET development with infrequent use and a basic server which is used for licensing/connection services for our own applications
    we develop (low use).
The only thing I can think of is the difference in the disk/RAID configuration. But it seems this configuration I am using is quite popular and therefore I would expect it to easily handle 6 VM's given the specs of the server?
    Any help much appreciated.

Hi your hardware setups looks good, and should perform nicely with 6 VM's, it could be network related, but make sure you have write cache allocated to your VM Drive.
I presume you installed all the latest drivers and firmware updates to your new server for 2012R2, for network and storage controller etc.
Ive seen slow VM's when the network isn't performing, or configured wrong, you could test a non domained server, with no network connectivity, or boot an exsisting one into safe mode without networking just to see how it performs.
Ruling out network, make sure if you have any AV, that you have excluded these directories :-
    ·         Default virtual machine configuration directory(C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V)
    ·         Custom virtual machine configuration directories
    ·         Default virtual hard disk directory (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks)
    ·         Custom virtual hard disk directories
    ·         Snapshot directories
    ·         Vmms.exe
    ·         Vmwp.exe <o:p></o:p>
also that you have disabled C-States in your System Bios, and you have set any performance plans to maximum performance.
Mixed VHD and VHDX will have no effect on your underlying disk performance.
you can check the disk performance on your host server using the resource monitor, Queue length needs to less than 1 for your RAID 10 disk.
hope this helps. let us know how you get on.
    regards
    MArk

  • What is the best hardware for Home Sharing?

What is the best client machine for Home Sharing on my stereo? aka What do I want for Christmas.
Well the CD player is starting to breakdown; that makes two this century. Might be time to replace that whole 5 disk CD player thing and get something to use as a player for  music in the living room stereo. Maybe a second unit in the office as well.
How to decide what to buy? Am I selecting the right media server option? I am pretty sure I have a server option but how should I set this all up.
Ethernet. The stereo in the living room doesn't have ethernet cable run to it so the Time Capsule could stream over airport Home Sharing from my iMac 2.4GHz or MacMini server to say my lightly used iPad 32gig. This must slow the network down so I could run ethernet cable if I had to, but the iPad doesn't take ethernet. Performance of the network is important.
Power on feature. Ideally the hardware should emulate the existing service. I go to the stereo, turn the power on and it starts playing, usually ramdom songs (shuffle) of a preselected playlist (5 cds).
Remote control. We don't really use this, although changing playlists with my iPhone makes sense. I could hide all the gear in an out of the way closet. Remote control would be a nice feature, and remote control from all devices in the network and over one or two devices. Can I power up/down the stereo, adjust the volume down or pause remotely? This is my most used functionality.
Server or Client. I could put something with the stereo and load the music on it. Share from it instead of share to it. My music library is currently at 20 gig, so a 32 gig device would work. A old PowerBook as well with any respectable hard drive. Or do I use the TimeCapsule or my low use MacMini server as a media server? What do I do if I want a second player in the Office?
Sound quality. Yeah, it has to be there, audiophile wise.
    Audio Sources.
Play a single CD. This is where is gets a little complicated for gear. I do like the option of listening to a cd prior to burning it to iTunes. This starts to require a CD player connected to a iOS device, which is not yet availanble, so drives the gear selection into an older PowerBook. or maybe just add a single disk CD player to a iOS device and let the amplifier select the source.
FM. It would be nice if the device would get FM so I could toss the tuner as well.
Display. My existing CD player permits display of the disk and track, which kinda *****. I would like to know the artist, song and album, so remote control comes back into play here.
Cost. A replacement 5 disk CD player costs about $30 at the local thrift store. New around $200 - $300. I'm getting refurbished iPod 8gb touchs gen4 for $100. I see ebay has iPad 16 gig for around $200. Set the budget around $250. Maybe more christmas is coming   : )/
Brand. Been thinking Apple as iTunes sharing is easy, but would consider another brand if the price and quality supported the idea.
Shortlist. Old PowerBook, an iOS device as  client players or a stand alone player with out sharing to it but from it. Haven't looked close to see if they meet the functionality of an old CD player.
Workflow. How can we add CD music to the server from any client on the network? How do I change playlists? From the remote control? Can I operate the player from the stereo?
On Hand Gear. My network is running a pair of iMac 24's, iPad gen2, iPhone 3GS 32Gb, iPod gen4 8 Gb, Time Capsule (500Gb), MacMini Server (w/2 500 Gb drives in a RAID 1 config) with SLS. I have several PowerBooks: 17" G4, 14" G3; I could sell or use, USB external CD rw.
Any recommendations would be appreciated, I have some time before the CD player tanks and Christmas list sent to Santa.

What does itunes do on a G4?
Will itunes work under 10.4 with iTune 9 on a G3?
So back to the G4 1.67 GHz running 10.5.8 with iTunes 10. Adding Home Sharing  to this computer required deauthorising one of the other 5 authorised computers. Also I noticed I must be logged into a user in order for Home Sharing to see the other library... Or atleast that user has to have iTunes running. I logged into my test user account and opened iTunes account as user Tech, found the library on the TC (why doesn't iTunes remember this ?, maybe it has to bee conected to the TC) , shabam the library shows up on the PowerBook G4. Started playing the Tragically Hip , logged out and expected the library to stop sharing but no, I was still able to play from the logged out accout, as long as iTunes was running. Sure enough as soon as I logged back in to that user account and quit iTunes running fron the TC library, the sharing stop. No warning of a connected user though!
So what about Home Sharing on a Pismo? I fired up the old guy PowerBook bronze keyboard G3 400 MHz, 512 mb ram, running 10.4.11 and iTunes what? iTunes 4, oh yeah, from the iLife 05 install. I need to update to iTunes 9 but before that I should try to see if it can play from the TC. Well no it can't . I can see the TC and load the library but no songs show up in iTunes 4. Must be incompatible file format. I can't see any shared libraries either.
So I download iTunes 9.2.1 from Apple. Thanks for supporting older machines.  hmmm. installer says iTunes 9.2.1 requires a G4, yet it lets me install into the G3... let's wait for the install to complete and see what is up wit dat... well it installed... but will it run? no, iTunes installs, but it won't run on a G3, it wants a G4 or better.
So the story goes that for Home Sharing we stop at G4, G3 not invited to the party. Good thing the Pismo just sold on eBay.
The discussion on Home Entertainment Network over at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15843219#15843219 brings up another thing to test.
Can I stream the same music to multiple locations? Can I play the same music in the office and the living room? How does Apple handle this?
My other thought here is, since the TC has a back up of my music why can't I just play that version. Why do I need to back up my music? Guess I could not back up the Music folder in TC but store the music in the TC.

  • What is the best hardware and network setup?

    Hi
I'm looking for the best setup for my hardware to go with CC
I mainly edit from RED files.  I transcode the files to ProRes HQ or Proxy (depending on volume), then edit in Premiere and After Effects.
I have the new Mac Pro and 2 Pegasus RaIDS - 18TB and 6TB.  However as I was losing so much time waiting for Transcodes to complete and for AE files to render, I bought a 2nd Mac Pro so I can use 1 for editing and 1 for Transcode / Render.
Now to me, this seemed simple and having watched this - Adam Pertofsky, editorand partner, Rock Paper Scissors Pro video editing apps and tools | Adobe Creative Cloud - and having worked in numerous edit suites over the years, it should be straightforward, right?  However I have now spent 5 days in discussion with Apple going from Enterprise to Servers to CPU divisions and they don't seem to understand what I want.
Can someone tell me what is the best way to set this up in a simple, effective way, so I can get back to editing?
    Many thanks

IF THE UPGRATE IS TO CS5 64 BITS. Better to work with quad core with H.T. like i7 920,930,950. If you like somthing faster we talk about i7 970,980x, 990.
RAM: If you will work with heavy files, start with 12G RAM  3x4. So you have the possibility to upgrate after to 24 if you need it.
    "graphics card"
Nvidia card: GTX460, GTX470. NO NEED TO GO TO SERIES GTX5..
"hard drive"  many choises. Depent of what performance you want, This can incrise the price a loot.

  • Compressor Issues, fast motion looks terrible.

    Hello,
I require the collective wisdom of this community please!
I'm editing a project for a company that shoots dance competitions.
I've edited a single show, and now I'm looking to send this seq. to Compressor 3, and find an appropriate way to compress said project. This video a little over 3 hours, and is very fast motion.
Previously I have exported the sequence as a self-contained and referenced quicktime movie, and each export gave my footage a pixelated (interlaced?) look. It looks terrible.
I should state that this footage was shot with a Canon XHA1, but is not being distributed in its original HD format.
When I view the sequence in FCP6, it looks great, then I started attempting to use Compressor 3, I wanted to use the compression mode DVD Best, but my project is over 150 min. (the apparent maximum compression time, I may be wrong).
I tried this once, and it took out all of my motion titles, then I tried again, and it took out my audio.
Can anyone help me shed some light on how to get this project exported/compressed so the fast motion won't look like trash, and I can get it into DVDSP in an acceptable format?
Thanks so much. A thousand internets to you.

    What are your sequence settings?
