Motion 4 Audio Waveform Problems

I'm having huge problems trying to animate to music in Motion 4.
When I import a track (I've tried MP3 and AIFF) into a project it appears correctly both in the Layers tab and the Timeline. However, If the track is altered in any way (moved, zoomed in or out, edited etc), the graphical wavefrom goes out of sync with the actual audio. The playhead can be over a silent part of the audio (represented by a flat line) but the music will be blasting out of the speakers. This means that all video key-framing etc has to be done by ear, as the visual waveform is totally inaccurate.
I've tried all of the usual house-keeping fixes. Re-starting. Repairing permissions. Trashing Pre-sets. None of this works.
Am I doing something thing wrong, or is this a glitch in Motion 4/Lion?
Thanks in advance
Imac 27" 2011, 3.4 i7, 16 gb RAM

You didn't say what versions you are using but I'd try first trashing prefs:
1) Quit Motion.
2) Navigate to User/Library/Preferences.
3) Locate com.apple.motion.plist and delete it.
And then if that doesn't help, do this
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3061
And if that doesn't help perhaps reinstall just the Motion app using Pacifist and run software update

  • Motion Audio Export PROBLEM???

When I export from motion using either compressor or even quicktime, for some unknown reason the audio file produced is cut short. Have tried many export variations, adjusting the play range BUT no joy! Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    welcome to the posts.
if you search through old threads you will find that many people come across this from time to time, myself included. There is nothing you can do about it in motion, as the audio side is buggy. The way round it is to import the motion sequence into FCP and export from there. I never build audio up in Motion, as its a comping tool and not an audio tool.
    Hope this helps

  • Audio waveforms in Motion 5?

Does Motion 5 have audio waveforms in the timeline for syncing my type?  I can't seem to find them.  thanks.

    found it.  thanks.

  • Latency problems: audio is heard 1 second after audio waveform

I wonder if this is normal in FCE:
I have a live video of my band where I can clearly see the bass guitar riff in the audio waveform at the beginning of the song. But I hear the notes ca. 1 s later. So the audio waveform is pretty useless for setting marker visually...

wow. you are right, when monitoring through the internal speakers, the audio is heard in sync with the movie and the waveform. So the conclusion is: FC express doesn't support external audio interfaces.
I think I'll return the software, this is ridiculous. What about FC pro, does it work with firewire and USB audio interfaces?

  • Is there a better way to re-render audio waveforms (after changing media files)?

I'm shooting documentary footage on RED cameras at 6K resolution.  That generates a large amount of media.  The RDC format records R3D media files in 4GB chunks, which is actually relatively short compared to my hours-long media captures.  I've discovered that it's very handy to simply delete the R3D files from the RDC folder in cases where nothing is actually happening at that moment.  Since each R3D media file is timecode stamped, these actually stay in sync with my master audio track.  And Premiere Pro sensibly places gray diagonal bars where the underlying R3D files are missing.  All good.
What's not good is that Premiere Pro confuses itself about the starting point of the PEK files.  Instead of simply greying out the part of the audio waveforms that are missing due to the missing media, it shifts the *waveform* to start at the location of the first R3D clip that is present, which is wrong.  If I clean the cache, quit the project, restart the project, and let it rebuild the cache, the audio waveform is correctly drawn.
An ideal fix for this problem would be for Premiere Pro to recognize that if it re-links media it should re-render the audio PEK file.  An OK work-around would be to make it easy to just re-render the PEK file for a given media clip.

A slightly quicker way to do what you described for an images is to select 'Duplicate version' instead of 'New version from Master' and then 'Remove adjustments' from version 1. This will leave you with the first version as the 'before' and the second version as the 'after' without having to use L&S.
If you need to do this for 108 images, it might be quicker to do the following:
Export Masters for all 108 images.
Reimport these into a new project (called 'before', for example)
You will then have a new project with the 'before' images and your original project with the 'after' images. You could then build an album to group all of these together. When you've finished with the 'before' & 'after' images (build your web gallery or emailed them or whatever), simply delete the 'before' project.

  • Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export  !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
    Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
    Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
    Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
    No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!
What's wrong with Apple?...this is not one of their finest hours.
Still A BIG fan from Imovie HD,...I'll chance to Imovie 9 when the bugs are finaly fixed!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

  • Audio waveforms not showing up in viewer

Using Final Cut Pro 6. When double clicking an audio track, it doesn't show up correctly in the viewer. The top half doesn't come up at all and the bottom doesn't look right. No idea why this is happening or how to fix it. Tried dumping the audio waveform cache, but that did nothing. Help ASAP would be much appreciated as this system needs to be used to edit something with audio right away. Thank you!

I am having the same problem. I am running FCP 6.0.4 and when I double click on an audio clip in the timeline, there is no waveform in the viewer. Just a big black box.
In the past I have deleted the waveform cache folder and trashed preferences. But this isn't working anymore.

  • IMovie volume meter shows much red peaking but audio waveform shows none

When I play my movie, the volume meter in iMovie shows peaking in the red (distortion) all over the place, but in the audio waveform there is not one place where it peaks into the red (or even the yellow).  The whole wave is very close to the 0db line.  It sounds great when I play it and still great after I export it.  But, once I upload it to YouTube, there is awful distortion all over the place just like the volume meter in iMovie indicates.  I can't find any place to turn down output so the volume meter doesn't peak and I don't want to turn my audio waveform down below 0db and lose all of my volume.  I already tried clicking on the Normalize Clip Volume in Audio Adjustments and that didn't seem to change anything, still peaking like crazy in the volume meter.  What can I do to get rid of the red peaking and distortion?
Here's a little more info for anyone who can help with my problem.  I am using iMovie 11 on an i7 iMac with Lion.  I turned the audio of my video all the way down and imported another audio that had been compressed in Pro Tools to show no red peaks whatsoever.  Can someone please help?

  • Audio Waveforms (On Certain Clips Only) Not Displaying

Long time forum-lurker, first time poster.
Here's the situation: The nighttime assistant editor created a sequence of B-roll clips for an editor. On both the editor's and the assistant editor's computer, the audio waveforms for these clips are not displaying correctly. Specifically, the symptoms (on both computers) are:
    - Waveforms do not appear in timeline unless zoomed in to maximum or second-to-maximum zoom. When zoomed out farther than that, the "X"es appear.
    - When viewing the clip in the viewer's audio tab, either by double-clicking the sequence clip or match-framing from the sequence, the waveforms do not appear at all until I zoom in to near maximum level. When zooming out after that, the remnants of the zoomed-in waveforms remain on the screen.
    - The waveforms of other clips display correctly.
I have tried deleting the waveform cache on both computers, changing the location of the waveform cache and restarting, and deleting the preferences on the editor's computer. I have not tried recreating the sequence from the original clips because the daytime assistant editor has more sequences to create and needs to use her computer.
If anyone can help me, that would be great.
    Here are the specs:
Assistant Editor's Computer: eMac running Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 and Mac OS 10.4.something (I haven't gotten a chance to run software update).
Editor's Computer: Dual Processor Power Mac G5 running Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and Mac OS 10.4.8.
Both computers are sharing the same media which is located on our SAN. The Editor's computer (along with two other G5-based editing systems) is connected via FibreChannel. The Assistant Editor's computer (along with a whole bunch of other computers) is connected through our server, which serves the SAN drives as network volumes. Assistant editors create sequences on the eMac and upload the project file to the server, where they are available for the editors to download.
Power Mac G5 and eMac   Mac OS X (10.4)   SAN: Xserve RAID, CommandSoft FibreJet (not Xsan). Server: Xserve (Intel model)

Don't know what's going on, but tell us the format of
    the audio.
It's the audio track from a video clip. All video on this project is DV NTSC. The audio is 48.0 Khz, 16 bit, 2 mono channels.
    Also, try copying
one audio clip to a local drive and see if the
    problem persists.
Copied one of the offending clips onto the desktop. Dragged it into the project. Opened it in the viewer and hit the Audio tab. Whaddya know, the waveform appeared.
I cut a chunk of it into the sequence that is full of clips whose waveforms don't work and turned on "show audio waveforms". Waited for a long time and I still just got the Xes unless I zoomed in really close to the new sequence clip.
But then I cut a chunk of the newly copied clip into a brand new sequence, turned on audio waveforms in the timeline, and they showed up.
I don't know if any of this will help to solve my problem, but hopefully it will give someone an idea. I've got an editor who says he's used to editing from waveforms and needs the ability to see them. (Unfortunately, copying media to local drives is not a viable workaround. The media must stay on the SAN.)

  • Audio Waveform does not appear

I'm having trouble with getting the audio waveform to show up in the project window.  I want to fade out music, but the option is not available because my audio clips do not have a waveform, only a solid green line (see pic below) --no matter what type of audio I put in.  Selecting the 'Show / Hide Waveforms' Option does not make a difference in the project window; it shows the waveform in the event window only.  Any ideas would be great!

The file (not the region) needs to be selected for the option to be appliable.
    Tobimusic wrote:
The graphic is well shown in the imported files but not in the newly recorded file.
Yes, because the recording delay preference applies to recorded audio only.
    Tobimusic wrote:
I´ll try the recording tip later today and come back on that. Perhaps that also fixes the tendency of delay in recording. (Forgot to write that earlier. )
Yes, it will fix both problems.

  • Audio rendering problems in Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Hi
I'm rendering a very small project in Premiere Pro (just some cut and music). I tried to render it in H.264 but when I open it in windows media player there is no audio, when I copy it to my mobile phone I can't hear the audio neither. When I import the rendered file into premiere I can see the audio waveform. When I render the project in mpeg I can here the audio and when I clik the "match sequence settings" button I can hear it to (AVI) but I need H.264. What is the problem or what am I doing wrong.
    Thanks in Advance
    Michiel

Windows Media Player sucks.  That's about the best 'why' I have for that.
I don't own a smart phone, so I can't help with that one.  (I'm one of those old fashioned types who only uses a phone to make phone calls, and the proper tool for all the other activities the 'phone' has co-opted lately - like a computer for playing back computer media files. )

    My friend has a problem:
When he have a Composition which goes 00:07 and he'll import Musik which goes 04:43, than the music is cutted to 00:07! And he can't here something when he do the Ram-Preview.
Further when he activate the Waveform, he can't see the Audio-Wave!
So, what can he do? What do he wrong?
(Sorry for bad english I'm german)
    Thanks!

Open the compensation settings and change the length of the composition to match the length of the audio.
Open the After Effects preferences and change the length of the audio preview.
With the layer selected press the L key twice to reveal the audio waveform.

  • Audio Waveform

Is there a way to alter the contrast of the Audio Waveform in Motion 5? There is a feature in Logic to do this but thats obviously a dedicated Music app. Would be good to see the waveform more clearly in Motion.

    No.

  • What does a red line at top of the audio waveform mean?

    Hi everyone.
I'm new, more or less to the imovie forum.
I have imported a video clip into imovie, and there is a long red line on top of where the audio waveform should be. Does this mean that the audio did not get imported, or that it is muted somehow? I don't see any waveform whatsoever, nor do I see any way to "unmute" the audio. When I play the video clip in VLC, the audio plays fine. What am I missing?
    Thanks

Open application so that you see the problem on screen
    press - Shift+cmd+4 - and mark a significant area
in next responce - select the Camera symbol and flip to the sceendump - most often found on Root level on Macintosh HD (Boot drive)
