Motion 4 problems

When using motion 4 all my RAM is getting used and I have 8Gb. I just watch it slowly go down on my free memory app. I have been told that this shouldnt happen but not been told if there is a solution? Any one had this problem too or know how to solve it?
I have had the same problem with all the operating systems I've had on the pro.

When I "send to" a file from FCP to Motion, Motion adds an extension "-1-1" onto the file and then cannot find the file. When i finally locate the file which never goes where I tell it, Motion cannot open the file. Is anyone else having this problem?
sorry, I cannot duplicate your situation. "Send to" operates as expected on my FCS3 system and the Motion project files end up where I save them.
This sounds more like a Finder issue but, I am truly sorry not to be able to send you better assistance. Give us a few days, the wonks will drop in and maybe offer something helpful.

  • Having choppy 24p motion problems.

Thanks for any info anyone might have on this.
I have a show open motion graphic sequence for a long running video series that has previously been produced in standard def NTSC and is now going HD.
    It's a straight to Bluray/DVD instructional show.
The show is being shot in 1080/24p and the authoring house is insisting we deliver the final show 1080/24p (23.976 of course).
Unfortunately part of this open contains video clips floating right to left across the screen along with other graphic elements perfectly perpendicular to the screen and the motionit's is
strobing like crazy in 24p. This is not some kind of field type artifact, but just the problem of horizontal motion in 24p.
I have tried turning on motion blur and that helps some but due to the speed of the movement the video clips and graphic elements become very
blurry. I have tried adjusting the 3D camera shutter angle and of course can reduce the blur but that then increases the choppy motion problems.
I have told the producer I would be happy to make them a new open that avoided this problem but they are insistent they want to keep this one.
Does anyone have any workarounds on this?
How would this be done for graphics used in a feature film that would need to be 24p?
Note: I am rendering this out for use in Avid Media Composer 6.
    Thanks!

If your motion is at or near a critical speed then you have only one choice, change the speed. Take a look at this article. You may get some ideas. In my cinematographers handbook there's a chart of must avoid panning speeds. That's what you are getting with your horizontal movement. Unfortunately the only remedy is to change the speed of the move. You have to get it as close as you can to match the rest of the piece (audio, other elements) and then hide the rest with motion blur. Unfortunately, if you are right  on a critical speed motion blur won't stop the strobing but it will make it less difficult to look at.
And to answer your question about doing this for a feature film at 24fps... you just have to follow the rules. In the same way a cinematographer must adjust his panning speed you have to adjust your design to the limitations imposed by the frame rate.

  • Slow Motion Problems

I've been using FCP now for many projects, and this is the first time I have had this problem. I will use slow motion on a clip and render it. But when I play the clip back, it will skip ahead in the clip, and then freeze. For example, people walking down the street. The clip is 3 seconds and I slow it to 6 seconds. As people are walking, about every 5 frames the picture jumps. Then at 4 seconds into the clip it freezes and plays that frame for the remaining 2 seconds. I never had this problem before, and I'm at a loss as to what is wrong. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm almost at the point where I want to just reinstall the whole FCS!

It depends on the formats you import. Are you slowing your footage down -100%? make sure you have constant speed checked. Maybe your time remapping it.

  • The Motion problem in Macbook Pro

I am still waiting for Apple to fix the problem that appears to be between Motion 2 & 3 and MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0.
Meanwhile Motion is 100% usless, unless a reinstall of the entire OS X (anybody successfull with that?).
Today it's almost 4 weeks since Apple made public this problem. And like 3 weeks without any news or friendly solution about this. Check: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306038
It means that almost everybody with a new MacBook Pro and Motion 2 or 3 is not able to run this application.
    Notice this facts:
    1)Motion is a PRO Application.
2)MacBook Pro is a PRO Computer.
3)MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0 is recommended by Apple to all 2.2/2.4GHz MacBook Pro models (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookprosoftwareupdate10.html)
because it fixes important bugs on this computers.
4)This update fixes some problems, yes, but causes another: Motion crashes 100% of the time you try to use it.
5)The need of making an Archive & install of the OS X in order to undo the Update is by far one of the less friendly solutions ever seen by any user. And it's worse when you don't know for sure that it will work.
6)Pro users are the supposed target of MacBook Pro and Motion, and it is supposed that they have to be able to their job with that. The second part of the last sentence is not true.
7)The Software and the Hardware that appear to be in conflict are both wrote and designed by Apple, and the solution of this problem it only can come from Apple. The second part of the last sentence is, still, not true.
As owner of a MacBook Pro, and owner of a Final Cut Studio 2 suite I expect some kind of respect and attention from Apple. Not to mention a fast and simple solutions that helps me, not makes everything WORSE.
It will be cool to know how many MacBook Pro users are having the same problem with Motion. And how many of them do not accept the actual situation. How many of them want to demand to Apple a fair solution to this, at least some kind of information about HOW MUCH MORE WE HAVE TO WAIT.
Anybody knows any way to accomplish this?
I'm a big fan of Apple computers and applications, but I am not going to accept all this without demanding some kind of explanation from Apple and a real solution NOW!

Maybe I'll try the FW drive solution. Thanks for the idea!
I agree with you that maybe there is no way to make Motion Engineers to work faster, I hope this problem is in some kind of priority for the Motion Team and that they can find a way to fix it.
But what is bothering me here is that Apple is not giving public information about this. The only public official article about this problem hasn't been updated by Apple since 20 July. I think they have to know something more by today.
As user I want to know what is going on or how much I will have to wait for some solution. I don't want to accuse the Motion Engineers, that's not my intention. Because I think it's not their fault. Here the problem has had to be a lack of communication between Apple divisions.
I want to accuse Apple in the way this problem is being treated. Not giving enough information to its users. And that the whole problem could have been avoided if they had tested the update before publishing it.
Maybe you can say that it always has been like this with other problems, but I don't think it's the right way. At least is not what I expected from Apple.

  • Slow Motion Problem with Motion 3

Hi, I am new to using Motion 3 and am having major frustration trying to get slow motion to work. I have applied a speed reduction to a short clip about 5 seconds in lengh. I've tried reducing the speed to 50% on one and about 10% on the other, booth using Optical Flow. But for some reason the resulting clip is very jerky and I have no idea why it is doing this. I have tried it with multiple other clips but it is till doing the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas? Please I am desperate to resolve this problem!
Here is a clip of the resulting problem if it helps...

Haven't heard a thing, but snce backward works and forward doesn't I think it is definitely a bug, not intentional. Since Verizon really doesn't watch these threads, these forums are users helping other users, I suggest you go over to dslreports.com, register if you are not already registered (it is free), and then post in the Verizon Direct forum there. Actual Verizon techs are there to help, and you can report the problem and no one other than Verizon reps can see any of your personal or account info.

  • PDF dropped into Motion problem

I created some graphic text in Illustrator, using the Extrude/Bevel effect, and saved it as an .ai file. Then I dropped the graphic into Motion. In Motion the image remains sharp even when large on the screen. The problem (and I wish I could attach a file to show it instead of describing it, but here it goes) is that in the curved areas of the text, in the smooth gradient blend in the extruded part of the text, there are horizontal lines going from the face to the back of the text. These lines appear to be banding from the blending steps, but they look smooth in Illustrator.
Any ideas? Has anyone successfully brought text extruded in Illustrator into Motion? Motion's Extrude Filter seems a little fuzzy, so I'd prefer not to use it. Seems to rasterize the graphic when it applies the filter.

Thank you. I had fixed resolution off. The image looked very sharp, even when enlarged. But, the lines (which are sharp) are in the curved parts of the gradiant. I Changed the bit resolution to 32-bit (it was 8-bit), but that didn't make a difference.
I tried this experiment: Instead of bringing the .ai into Motion and letting Motion convert it to a PDF, I rasterized the graphic in Illustrator first, then saved it as a PDF with 1200 dpi. This worked getting rid of the lines and the image looked very sharp when enlarged in Motion. BUT, the file size is 97 MB (compared to 1 MB) and the graphic gets unsmooth when it is smaller on the screen. So, this is not really a solution.
I'm guessing the problem has something to do with Motion's .ai to PDF conversion? The original in Illustrator has very mild, exceptable banding (to my eye), but when brought into Motion the bands become this sharp, thin, black lines.

  • Photoshop CS5 Motion Problems

I own the 64 bit version of Adobe photoshop CS5. The motion option I'm talking about resides at the top right-hand corner.
Today, I was making an animation; I drew all the frames as layers in the 'painting' mode first. I had the fx option on for all frames (outer glow). I then switched to 'motion' mode, and made frames from layers to test the animation.
It ran smoothly, but it didn't look right near the end bit, so I stopped the animation and then corrected that frame.
Big mistake. The fx glow refused to adhere to the new shape of the image in that frame. The glow continues to outline the part that I'd erased off. The new part I drew in is not covered by the glow.
I've experienced problems like this when entering and exiting Photoshop's motion mode before (other than today). I don't understand it. Is it because the motion mode destroys coding, which causes it to turn out like this? I have tried saving, exiting and reopening the file. Nothing works. The glow still exists around the part of the image that is no longer there. Meanwhile, the part of the image that I added in is not outlined by the glow. As anyone who has used the fx option before should know, the glow appears around the new part being drawn drawing whenever you draw something in the layer. It's stopped doing so on this particular layer ever since I exited motion mode.

I think I might have found the problem. The eraser tool seems to have changed the layer's colour to the background colour, rather than having
deleted the colour from the layer. So instead of having a transparent section where I'd erased things, I was left with a black shape (the same colour as the background). That's why the glow wouldn't go away; the shape was still there, just invisible by contrast.
So I have a new question. How did I get my brush to do this? The brush sometimes seems to erase perfectly well by deleting the colour in the frame. Other times it does a weird trick (like this occasion) and substitutes the colour in the layer with the background colour, making it look like it's done its job when it's just pulled a colour substitution for the background colour. What settings control whether it does one or the other?

  • Please help: Stop i Motion problem

    Hi,
I'm aware that this is a Motion forum but souldn't find one on here for StopiMotion. If anyone can help me, or point me in the right direction , I'd be very grateful.
My problem is this: Today I used StopiMotion (on an almost brand new Powerbook with at least 10 GIG space) for the first time to make a stopframe animation, for which I normally use Framethief instead.
Foolishly I presumed that, like Framethief, StopiMotion would save each captured frame individually all in a filder in documents. Foolishly I also (was in a pressured situation) didn't pay attention to where it was saving the project to or what it was saving it as. Because I thought it's saving prcess would be the same as framethief at no point did I actually save the project (as in 'save as..'). However, we did preview it successfully at a couple of points during the process. As it needed to render in order to let us preview this leads me to believe that it must have been saved somehow and that the file must exist somewhere.
The problem is that at the end of the process the software froze and I had no choice but to force quit. I then looked in documents for the file but could find nothing that resembled it. What exactly would i be looking for: a Stopimovie movie file or many individual frames? Or would it have been autosaved as a temp file? And where would it save to by default? Does it sound as though my project will have been autosaved?
Thank you for your time and please forgive my stupid questions.
    C.

Are you referring to Boinx software iStopMotion?
The reason ask is that that company has a wonderful support line.
    http://www.istopmotion.com/
Just post the question and let them respond.
My guess is that these are sequenced graphic files, because unless you set preferences for a movie capture, the files would be sequential.
    best wishes

  • Slow motion problem publishing from imovie to idvd

The problem is with publishing a film to idvd from imovie. The slow motion clips "glitch up" when viewed on idvd but run smoothly when viewed on imovie. The visual of the slow motion clip pauses as the audio continues. The movie picks up as normal after the slow motion scene ends. There is another point in the movie where a non-slow motion scene does the same thing (visual pauses and audio continues) until the end of the entire movie. The glitch stops before the credits (which is not filmed fottage). How do I fix this?

hmmmm..I would double check the other clips. Other than that I am stumped. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.
Also, once you changed to 25%, you need to re-SHARE the video. (If you haven't already)

  • Are my motion problems because project was on fcp 5 now on FCS with Mac Pro

I have a 25 min. completed project done in FCP 5. Bought a Mac Pro and now have FCS. Opened project in FCS and my motion sequences are wacky (back and forth jittery). (all motion projects use psd files and ran smoothly in FCP 5). When rendering in FCS, it crashes and I will also get "may have been caused by the ProGraphics plug-in". I read the threads to that and tried the fix and it didn't seem to help. I thought it'd be easy to make a DVD of this project and I'm going nuts trying to solve the mystery. (I'm NOT a Mac guru, more like a Mac first grader). Do I need a new graphics card? Radeon HD 3870 is what I'm reading. But is my problem a Motion 3 issue? or is it getting a FCP 5 project into FCS? I started tweaking the motion jitters and realized this is ridiculous. I love the original project and want THAT to be the DVD. Please HELP me, guide me, enlighten me!

I have FC 6.04, but still get the ProGraphics plug-in crash. Hmm?
Also, in refining the jittering situation.... it occurred in Motion first, without sending it to FC.
Here's what happened. I have a series of psd. of a creature "talking". So one psd the mouth is open, the next psd mouth is closed. etc. but what happened going from my first finished product which ran smoothly, to now is that the open mouth psd(for example) has shifted slightly so when it runs in Motion, it gets that jittery back and forth look. This type of thing has occurred in most of the Motion sequences. Some psds are Way over. There doesn't seem to be any pattern of disturbance. All I know for sure is something got lost in translation from Motion (used in fcp 5) to Motion 3.( I have no Motion exported Quicktime yet). I really want to get to the root of this without going in and doing surgery to the project. Thanks for any help.

  • Nforce fast motion problem

when ever I boot up everything is in fast motion. By fast motion is minutes are seconds and hours are minutes... that's how fast the system is going, this was on the old forum so I know others have had this problem with this board. Anyone remember the fix? I would go back on bios but I dun't think that 2.4 supports the 2200+

  • Reduce Motion Problems iPhone 5 iOS 7.0.4

I've been having problems with my reduce motion setting. I usually have it turned on so I don't have the extra motion. But when I turn it off, it only stays off until turn off my phone. When I turn my phone back on then reduce motion is enabled. In other words after disabling reduce motion, it will enable its self after a reboot. Help!

I would suggest to update your phone to the latest iOS to see if that resolves the issue.

  • Motion problems (RAM??)

Motion keeps acting up with making pictures flicker in a project file. I have created an .flv clip of the issue. Keep in mind that all of the pictures should be solidly visible as the cameras fly by them. This project did once work, since I have a good clip of the flythrough. But now I am going back to edit it and this is what I get.
right click to download and watch (1.3MB)
    http://fc.asburyseminary.edu/~paul_delrio/temp/motionexample.flv
    Paul

Alright, VLC worked (tho it was reluctant to open it). I'm guessing you used ANIMATION codec when you exported first - that might account for the 400mb file. Still, if you took that and ran it thru compressor and selected Apple/Other Workflows/Web/Download/QuickTime 7 compatible/H.264 LAN - you'd get a 5 MB file that would look pretty darn good and play back in the browser.
As to your problem, I'd bet it has something to do with running out of texture memory or something like that and it's because of the size of your stage. Are you rendering as BEST?

  • Twixtor slow motion problem

Hello, I was using twixtor to modify some footage I have and make it slow motion but for some reasons everytime I turn the speed down the footage is blurred and it has some kind bad frame timing. I modified the frames from the composition to be exactly like the ones from my footage so there shouldn't be any problem.

I took a look at the footage and it looks like the frame rate is wrong. It's hard to tell because you put up an FLV file and didn't post the original footage. The FLV does not contain all of the frames and the frame rate doesn't match the movie because there are a bunch of repeated frames.
    Here are a few thoughts.
You shot with a DSLR so there are some rolling shutter problems that must be fixed to keep the car from distorting. There are plug-ins for that. Fix the rolling shutter problems (jello cam) first.
You may have interlacing issues and 3:2 pulldown issues. Make sure that every frame of the movie is properly interpreted. You can do this by dragging the original clip into the new comp icon, then doubling the frame rate of the composition, then interpreting the footage as interlaced. If the footage is interlaced you'll see a different frame every time you advance one frame. If you see 2 or 3 different frames, then 2 duplicate frames, the footage has 3:2 pulldown. You must remove it. If, after you set footage interpretation to separate fields you only see pairs of frames, then the footage is truly progressive.
Once you have the footage properly interpreted make sure that the interpretation is exactly copied to the appropriate fields in Twixtor and experiment with all the settings, isolate the background, and you should get acceptable results.
None of these suggestions will work if your footage is misinterpreted. If you want to post the original footage to You Send It or Dropbox I'll gladly take a look when I can.
