Motion 4 (upgrade) Templates Taking Longer to Render in FCP?

I've noticed that templates created in the Motion 4 upgrade when used in FinalCut -- more specifically those with text -- take much longer to render... in fact, up to 10x longer.
I have text-only templates used for the lower-third, after trying to figure out why a 10-second sequence was taking 12 minutes to render in FCP, I removed the video-track containing the Motion template, which result in a render-time of about 20 seconds.
Using a very-similar text-only template from Motion 3 (created before the upgrade) resulted in a negligible increase in render time. So I opened the .motn file in the upgraded Motion 4, exported as a new template... and the render-time jumped back to 12 minutes. Same text, same transition, but the Motion 4 created template significantly increased render-time in FCP.
Is anyone else seeing this? And is there a solution/fix/workaround?

I want to use some Motion-designed templates for some specific text transitions (nothing too crazy, but which is much more simple to use in a template, for a regally occurring webisode project) in a lower-third.
A 20 second clip with a "Text-A template" saved from Motion 3, takes less than one minute to render in FCP.
The same clip, with the same "Text-A template" saved from Motion 4, takes nearly six minutes to render in FCP... with the same render settings.
It appears to be only related to templates that contain text... I've not noticed any new slowness with templates that contain drop-zones for photos or video.

  • Yikes, this is taking long to render.

Let me start by saying that I've never edited long format in FCP. I'm currently rendering out a 2hr 2min feature for use in DVD Studio Pro. The settings are SD, 636x480. (It's an old movie). I used the share dialogue in FCP to DVD. It currently says the render time will be approx. 36hrs. Is this normal or is it recommended I export via compressor and adjust the settings myself? Is there a faster method without sacrificing quality?
Thank you in advanced for help.

Assuming you are intending to build the DVD in DVD Studio Pro, you should be making an MPEG2 video file and an ac3 audio file. Making H264 will take a long time and is completely unneccessary.
If you are going to build the disc in iDVD, then you export a Self Contained QuickTime file using Current Settings (same as your Timeline).
But let's just back up a little here.
Go back to your source file. What codec does it use?
What are the Sequence Settings in Final Cut Pro? Do they match the codec of your source file?

  • 11.5.10.2 -12.1.1 Upgrade- American English patch driver taking long time

    Hi,
I have performed test upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1.It was successful.
The American English Upgrade patch driver had taken 20 hours time to complete.
Now i am doing a second test run by following the same steps, but now the same patch is taking long time. It is running from past 24 hours.
And still 54000 jobs to complete.
The main difference between my two test runs is
1.For first instance both database and apps are in one server. (single node)
2.For this new test instance, we have database running one server and 12.1.1 file system on another server.
Will it make any difference? How can i diagnose the issue?
The patch log is not showing any errors, but taking long time to complete.
    Thanks,

    Hello James,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
From what you are describing, I have 2 recommendations. First, troubleshoot for 3rd party plugins that may be causing an issue after the interrupted update:

If the issue persists after followign the article, I would next download iTunes from the download page, and install it.

  • Why is Motion 4 Upgrade running sooo slow on my brand new MacPro 8core?

Hi I realize that buying an 8.core MacPro in 2012 is buying a 3-year old machine, and FinalCut Studio, with FCP7, & Motion 4 Upgrade is buying an ancient software nobody at Apple seems to care much about anymore, but it happens to be the software I need for the work we are doing.
I used to run Motion 3 on a MacPro G5 and it ran pretty well. But I did NOT expect that Motion 4 Upgrade would run at an absolute achingly slow snail's pace on a brand new Intel MacPro that has more than twice the processing power of my ancient G5. You spend all this money to upgrade and would expect that an Apple software like Motion should run amazingly fast on this much firepower.
That said, i'm hoping that someone can give me a clue to help me figure out how to make it run better. At least fast enough to be able to try out a few effects on some, say, text, on a 20 second animation and not have to wait 25min for a render three letters of text.... ???!
Could my MacPro have a massive hardware defect? I also run Final Cut Pro 7 and also find it does not perform particularly fast. I am no newbie, having used these softwares for years and also work as an editor. I've thought maybe it'S some problem with RAM filling up and eventually choking, since it seems the longer I work on something the slower Motion gets. But everything i've tried has failed to improve it, even reinstalling. I'm running Lion (10.7.4) and have found that it has been a nightmare getting it to run correctly. Could that be a cause? It's causing me to get depressed and give up on Macs. Never thought I'd say that!
    Thx for any help!
    fj

UPDATE: After quitting and reopening the same project that was extremely slow, it performed better? I then worked in it for a while and it seemed to work ok, but then after I clicked on the layers editor to close one of the layers Motion just ground to a halt! So it seems there is a bug within Motion, at least on my machine. If I close and reopen the same project the performance returns.
Is there a possibility that the version I purchased has a bug? Is this a bug others have? Or is this an issue with my MacPro? In any case, it makes working on anything of any kind of complexity in Motion 4, even low complexity text effects, virtually unuseable.
Any feedback from others as to this problem? Input greatly appreciated!

  • SSRS Reports taking long time to load

    Hello,
Problem : SSRS Reports taking long time to load
My System environment : Visual Studio 2008 SP1  and SQL Server 2008 R2
    Production Environment : Visual Studio 2008 SP1  and SQL Server 2008 R2
I have created a Parameterized report (6 parameters), it will fetch data from 1 table. table has 1 year and 6 months data,      I am selecting parameters for only 1 month (about 2500 records). It is taking almost 2 minutes and 30 seconds
    to load the report.
This report running efficiently in my system (report load takes only 5 to 6 seconds) but in
production it is taking 2 minutes 30 seconds.
I have checked the Execution log from production so I found the timing for
    Data retrieval (approx~)       Processing (approx~)               Rendering (approx~)
    10 second                                      15 sec
                2 mins and 5 sec.
But Confusing point is that , if I run the same report at different time overall output time is same (approx) 2 min 30 sec but
    Data retrieval (approx~)       Processing (approx~)                Rendering (approx~)
more than 1 min                            15 sec
    more than 1 min
so 1 question why timings are different ?
    My doubts are
    1) If query(procedure to retrieve the data) is the problem then it should take more time always,
    2) If Report structure is problem then rendering will also take same time (long time)
for this (2nd point) I checked on blog that Rendering depends on environment structure e.g. Network bandwidth, RAM, CPU Usage , Number of users accessing same report at a time.
So I did testing of report when no other user working on any report But failed (same result  output is 2 min 30 sec)
From network team I got the result is that there is no issue or overload in CPU usage or RAM also No issue in Network bandwidth.
Production Database Server and Report server are different (but in same network).
I checked that database server the SQL Server is using almost Full RAM (23 GB out of 24 GB)
I tried to allocate the memory to less amount up to 2GB (Trial solution I got from Blogs) but this on also failed.
one hint I got from colleague that , change the allocated memory setting from static memory to dynamic to SQL Server
(I guess above point is the same) I could not find that option Static and Dynamic memory setting.
    I did below steps
    Connected to SQL Server Instance
Right click on Instance go to properties, Go to Memory Tab
I found three options 1) Server Memory   2) Other memory   3) Section for "Configured values and Running values"
Then I tried to reduce Maximum  Server memory up to 2 GB (As mentioned above)
All trials failed, this issue I could not find the roots for this issue.
Can anyone please help (it's bit urgent).

    Hi UdayKGR,
According to your description, your report takes too long to load on your production environment. Right?
In this scenario, since the report runs quickly in developing environment, we initially think it supposed to be the issue on data retrieval. However, based on the information in execution log, it takes longest time on rendering part. So we suggest you optimize
the report itself to reduce the time for rendering. Please refer to the link below:

  • Reports taking long time to execute

    Hi,
There are few reports on SSRS which are taking almost 6-8 minutes to complete and display the data.
I am using Oracle database as source.
When I checked the query performance, what I found that main data set is taking almost 2-3 minutes to execute on Sql developer. Also there are two parameters which are taking almost 1-1 minute to execute.
When I run the report without these two parameters, report execution time is reduced by more than 3 minutes.
Also I am using 3-4 groupings in the report and 6 columns are aggregated at each grouping.
Reports are tabular reports and contains header, footers and 2-3 text boxes to display parameter values.
Can you please provide me some ways to optimize the queries and reduce the time taken by report to complete.

    Hi sudipta,
According to your description, it takes too long to render the report when accessing it. Right?
In this scenario, it can be many possibilities which will reduce the report performance. We suggest you check the report on ReportServer first. Go to the ReportServer ExecutionLog to see which part takes more time.
Then we need to do some troubleshooting to improve the report performance. Here we have a article for your reference:

  • Rendering taking longer than usual

I'm cutting on FCP 6.0.6. I've noticed its taking a lot longer to render these days. Anyone know why? Thanks.

Do you really mean I should erase the entire cache of a project with a few hundred clips spread through several sequences? How long would it take to build it back again? Is there any chance something might go wrong and it doesn´t build everything back, throwing away hundreds of hours of work? I´m just doing the final touch ups in the project, can´t afford to go back, audio editing being the main concern (it was quite complicated).
If I copy the entire cache to some other folder before cleaning it up and something goes wrong when building it back, can I just paste the backed up cache into the former folder?
I run the system on a SSD for programs with 65,2GB free right now and it´s only 12% fragmented (very little, right?). the Raid has 750GB available. It was 10% fragmented but the project continues to freeze after defragmenting (have still to defragment the SSD, but I don´t know if I should do it now: the little I mess with it the SSD the better, right?).
    Thanks a lot!

  • MP-4 Takes Unusually long to Render: Is this format the worst to render?

I usually do my projects from my canon camera and the rendering of clips occurr very quickly. I just brought in some MP4 clips and they are taking 15 minutes or so to render a 1 minute clip. Is this format unusually long to render? I use streamclip to make some short clips and options to make them as avi as well as others. Should I consider doing this rather than as an mp4?
Thanks so much for any assistance someone can give.
    Skip
PS: Have they fixed the solve helpful buttons yet????

MPEG-4 is not an edititng codec....it is a delivery codec. And yeah, it will take a while to render.
If you use Streamclip, you need to convert it to DV/NTSC in order to work with it properly. NOT AVI!

  • Why does it take so long to render my video?

I imported 11 mini discs and created a project with the intention of compiling them to be recorded on larger dvd. I can't understand what the background rendering is all about. I'm in my 4th day of rendering. Yesterday I stopped after 13+ hrs and today I'm in my 9th hr. I am not interested in adding any enhancements, additions, or anything else - just straight compilation of 11 minis to however many larger dvds. Why is it taking so long to do the background renderingf?

I recommend turning off background rendering in the FAQs to the right of this forum. It's got more liabilities than benefits.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/503270?tstart=0
Even still, it shouldn't take that long to render your files, assuming you've got a relatively powerful computer (i.e., at least a dual-core processor, up to date operating system and 2-4 gigs of RAM).
How long is your project? A DVD can only hold about 70 minutes of video.
And are you ensuring you're using the DVD project settings? If not, you'll run into problems eventually.
As you add DVD or MPEG files to your project, the program will need to first assimilate them. This should only take a couple of minutes for each file, depending on how long they are.
Once you place these files on your timeline, you will see a red line above them along the top of the timeline. Press Enter and the program will render them and the red line will turn green. Again, this shouldn't take more than 5 or 10 minutes, depending on how long your video is.
Assuming, of course, that you have adequate hardware to support version 8, which needs about 2-3 times the power of previous versions.

  • The ODS activation is taking long time

    Hi,
We are on SAP NetWeaver BI 701 (Support Package 5).
We create a Z ODS, it will contain a lot of data (180.000.000 month-end) and we want to generate specific reports about it.
The activation is taking long time, I assume is because we checked the flag "SIDs Generation upon Activation". I am confused about this check. I really need it? is this check the only problem.
    Thanks for you help.
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria:
If your Z DSO is used only for staging purposes (you don't have queries based on this DSO and you send the data to another DSO or to an InfoCube) then you don't need to check the "SIDs Generation Upon Activation" box.
Even more, to achieve better performance during data loads in this scenario, you might consider using a Write Optimized DSO instead of a Standard DSO, but if you decide to take this alternative don't forget to select the "Do Not check Uniqueness of Data" box if you need to write several records with the same Semantic Key.

    Francisco Milán.

  • F4 Help is taking long time

    Hi All,
We are working on BI 7.0. version
In the varaible pop-up screen we have two info objects.
    1. Fiscal year Period
    2. JOA(Joint operating aggriment)
If u press F4 for JOA, it is taking long time to execute and finally the application is getting closed.same situation is there in RSRT also.
If i enter with out JOA the query is giving the output. Here i have to restrict the query by JOA.
i have changed the JOA peroperties in query designer.
Query execution for filter value selection = Values in master data table.......
but still the situation is the same.......
Could you please suggest any solution for this.....
    Thanks & Regards,
    PK

    Hi Kamal,
You can set that at the query level in the query designer for each query.
    1. Select the corresponding characteristic in the query designer.
    2. Goto to the "Extended tab" in the properties
    3. Select the "Values in the Master data table" in the "Query execution in the filter value selection.
    Also see some recomendations:
