Motion 5 requirements?

can motion 5 be installed without pro kit 7? this would be on a snow leopard system.
thanks,
BabaG

interesting. i found this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP625
the one you posted is under an fcp heading while the one i found is not.
i wonder if the fact that the one i found makes no mention of pro kit, while
the one you post does, implies an assumption that fcpx is being installed,
thus requiring pro kit. very confusing.
i was interested in a standalone installation of motion 5.
any thoughts on this?

  • "Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card"

Today, I opened Motion after 3 weeks away from my computer. In mid-December, it worked fine. Today, Motion would not start, instead popping up a dialog box saying "Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Hmm. Nothing changed except maybe a Software Update over the past 3 weeks. After a few panicky minutes, I realized it was worth restarting the machine, and that fixed it.
Why did it happen? Probably because, before I left for a holiday, I unplugged my Cinema LED monitors (to save energy costs). When I returned to the machine today, plugged in their power cables and started working.
Somehow, Motion was triggered to protest that I didn't have the right display hardware, but, thankfully, a restart fixed the problem.

    Thanks for sharing...

However, it seems that some of the templates play fast while others play slow. They seem to export okay...
Also, does FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 not like MOV files? It seems to move slow with them but it works fine with DV streams?
Any help, advice or anything else would be great.

You should check your GPU specs against the requirements/suggestions for Motion. You did not say which templates specifically but many of the effects in Motion require huge GPU resources you may not have. Try deconstructing some of the templates to see what effectsare in use and then appy them to new projects.
Also, does FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 not like MOV files?
It seems to move slow with them but it works fine with DV streams?
That is in direct opposition to what we normally see. "DV Stream" is a format used by iMovie and it does not play well at all in FCP. However, "streams of DV" should indeed play effortlessly in your system and .mov is a file extension that can be applied to many different types of media.
The FCS2 manual has a huge section on compatible video formats, transocding options, sequence presets and their attributes.

  • Can you use Google SketchUp to create 3D models for Motion

Can Google's SketchUp Pro be used to create 3D models for use in Motion?
I'm having problems finding the file types that SketchUp produces and Motion requires.
Thanks for any help in this.

Zaxwerks Pro Animator does a pretty good job of creating a 2 3/4D models.   That is it appears to be 3D as you move around the object until you cross the objects plane. Then it looks 2D.   Kinda like moving around particles that are set to 3D.
ProAnimator would be alright but it's rather difficult to texture and I was just wondering if SketchUp Pro would be importable into Motion.
    Thanks for the responce.

  • Minimum Requirements For FC 5.1 - Laptop iMac

    Hi Gang
My friends have an older iMac; Processor 1.9 Ghz Power PC G5 with 1 GB Ram. I'm pretty sure we can replace the two 512's with #2 Sticks of 1GB = 2GB.
They've got about 140 GB's of free space on their system drive and are using Tiger 10.4 - They can upgrade to 10.4.11, that's not the issue. Was wondering if the current video card and remaining HD space would be adequate?
*They will no doubt be using an external drive for scratch.
    Thanx for your input

  • Warning:  Sometimes Final Cut exports a non-drop sequence as drop-frame

Just a heads up. This has been maddening for me. On occasion I will export my program for compressor and it will be drop frame when it should be non-drop.
These are sequences which have exported fine before. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Tonight I've lost about 2 hours because of this. At least I knew to check it before compressing the file and sending it out to our contractor because it has happened in the past.
By the way shutting down FCP and opening it up again seems to cure the problem.

  • GFX card HELP!!!

    I'm using OSX 10.4.6 on a G4 Dual 500mhz agp machine.
Was given a Radeon9800pro card but the machine doesn't like it.
I've got FCP Pro 5 - but obviously it doesn't like the piddly ATI card that is in the machine.
Does anyone know which, if any of the compatible cards will work in my machine? The list of gfx cards compatible with fcp pro 5 is here: http://www.apple.com/uk/finalcutstudio/specs.html?finalcutpro
or if there is a card not listed that will work?

Motion requires the standard graphics card found in any Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac Intel Core Duo, Power Mac G5, iMac G5, a 1.25GHz or faster PowerBook G4, or a 1.25GHz or faster flat-panel iMac
Minimum supported graphics cards: ATI Radeon 9800XT, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, ATI Radeon 9600XT or 9600 Pro, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and 6600LE, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 or FX 5200 Ultra
Recommended graphics cards: ATI Radeon X1900 XT, ATI Radeon X850 XT, ATI Radeon X800 XT, ATI Radeon X1600, NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4500, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL or 6800 GT DDL
I use a nvidia 5500 that will run all the 10.4.8 video treats. It came out of my PC, I bought it to vo all the tricks with Visra. I had a guy at www.strangedogs.com flash it for the MAC total cost of $50., card 25, flash 25. This would work with your Mac, it is a minimum approach, but works great, it does the Quartz extreme thing with revolving 3D windows in Tiger, etc.
I suggest you go to the strange dogs forum, they seem to really know the Mac and the Video cards. With what you want to do, I suggest you go high end, Radeon 800, 850. In the long run you will be better off.
If you are a gamer then you will always be chasing a faster card.

  • 2520 and Internet Explorer

I have the Verizon 2520 and overall it's great. However one big problem I'm having is with Internet Explorer. IE often does not register touchscreen presses as clicks. For example, if I'm logged into the full desktop Gmail site it's basically impossible to log out by clicking my profile name in the top right corner. It correctly registers as a click about one out of twenty tries!
Anyone else experienced this and have a fix?

I have found that using a stylus ( I have a Wacom Bamboo Duo ) gives me greater accuracy on taps. It also decreases fingerprint/smears and you can do all the swipping motions required to operate your tablet. I am also using a Favi FE02BT-BL ultra compact bluetooth keyboard you can put in your shirt pocket with great success until my keyboard cover comes in. You can also zoom in and make the object of your touch larger which, I have found gives your touch a better chance of registering. Make sure the stylus you select is for capacitive screens. Ones for iPads work fine. Hope this was a help!

  • Parallax effects great in Chrome and FF, not IE11; Help

Parallax effects great in Chrome and FF, not IE11; any advise would be greatly appreciated.  My site is www.checkmyvoiceanddatarate.com
    Thanks Phillip

    File sent as requested.
    Couple of notes:
Original set up for three parallax picture boxes.
First box contained picture file that was set at “original size” and was large enough to meet motion requires without reaching end of picture and reach 100% of landscape monitor.  It reached 100% and was acceptable in FF and Chrome.
Second box contained picture file that was set at “original size” and was large at original size and was large enough to meet motion requires without reaching end of picture and but was centered at almost 100% of landscape monitor.   It was centered and acceptable in FF and Chrome.
Third box contained picture file that was set had tile vertical as it wasn’t large enough in certain settings and needed repeating.  It was wide enough to reach 100% of landscape monitor.  It reached 100% and was acceptable in FF and Chrome.
Both FF and Chrome displayed great.  Images 1 and 3 were 100% wide and image 2 was about 90% wide and centered.  Start motion and end motion displayed photos images in exactly the location as desired.
IE11, Images 1 and 3 were 100% width.  Image 2 was still at 90%, but left aligned.  Additionally, all images motion started and ended at a different point than when displayed in FF or Chrome, causing the images to be off of where I would like them to start and end the motion effect.
I was able to correct the left alignment of image 2 by changing it from ”original size” to “tile vertically”.  I subsequently changed all pictures to “tile vertically”
So the remaining issue is that all images motion starts and ends at the wrong point in IE11 vs FF and Chrome.
Lastly, if you look at the site on an iPad, although it wasn’t sized for the smaller screen, it displays very well and the anchor menus work well, with one exception.  The site jumps around when scrolling with touch, and when you touch scroll to the end, it wants to jump you back to the top. If you have time, could you look at this as well.
One bug I did find on all browsers, was that if I put a 100% width block and checked “footer”, it caused the site to add a lower scroll bar at the bottom when previewed. The only way I was able to work around this was to remove the 100% block from the footer.  Feedback on this would also be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Macbook and fcp 5.1 compatible?! HONESTLY?!!!?

ok, so i just ordered a macbook 2.0ghz 80HD w/ 512RAM...and i just found out that apple doesn't support fcp 5.1 for a macbook(b/c no one told me otherwise). extremely disappointed b/c this what i do for a living. however i have read a couple articles stating that fcp 5.1 actually can run on macbook..and quite well...see for yourself.
    http://www.creativemac.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=43717
w/ that in mind, all that i am asking is will fcp 5.1 technically run ok if my RAM is maxed out and i don't use motion2 ?? ...i mean HONESTLY?? i need a third party opinion or someone who has actually came across the same problem...
please any insight to this would greatly help.(besides just buying a macbook PRO like everyone else:)

    HONSESTLY!!!!
Yes, it is very compatible and works great!
I do video and film for a living and use FCP Studio 5.1.2 on my Black MacBook 2GHz/CoreDuo/2GB/160GB daily without issue. I also ran it on my PowerBook G4 12" Rev. A before getting my MacBook. I also run Avid Media Composer 2.5.3 in BootCamp under Windows XP SP2 and it works flawlessly.
Everyone in this forum that says otherwise is talking gibberish! If you think a MacBook cannot run everything and more than a PowerBook 12" 867 Rev. A, you need to think again. Of course it can! My MacBook runs FCP 5.1.2 faster than my Dual 2.5GHz G5 at the office.
Here are the requirements for FCP Studio:
    General System Requirements
Macintosh computer with 867MHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo processor, or Intel Xeon processor
HD features require 1GHz or faster single or dual processors (authoring HD DVDs requires a PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo processor, or Intel Xeon processor)
512MB of RAM; 1GB of RAM for HD features (2GB recommended)
Display with 1024-by-768 (or higher) resolution
AGP Quartz Extreme or PCI Express graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not supported on systems using the Intel Extreme Graphics 950 GMA)
Motion requires the standard graphics card found in any Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac Intel Core Duo, Power Mac G5, iMac G5, a 1.25 GHz or faster PowerBook G4, or a 1.25 GHz or faster flat-panel iMac.
Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later
    QuickTime 7.0.4 or later
4GB of disk space to install all applications
Additional 42GB to install all optional templates, loops, content, and tutorials (may be installed on separate discs)
It is not SUPPORTED, and you'll get nowhere on the phone with tech support, but IT WORKS FLAWLESSLY. This may change with an FCP update, but then Apple would basically have to drop FCP support for all systems prior to the MacBook Pro and that's unlikely until FCP 5.5 or hopefully 6.
    Please close this thread.

  • Apple Final Cut Express HD 3.5

For those wanting more than iMovie then Apple Final Cut Express HD 3.5 is now available as a Universal Binary. Yipee!!
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/

Well, they're not supported by Apple to run it. You
won't be able to get technical support directly from
them and the folks in the Final Cut forums may not be
able to give you specific advice.
    -Doug
    What? Read the specs!
    Final Cut Studio:
Macintosh computer with 867MHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, or Intel Core Duo processor
HD features require 1GHz or faster single or dual processors (authoring HD DVDs requires a PowerPC G5 or Intel Core Duo processor)
512MB of RAM; 1GB of RAM for HD features (2GB recommended)
Display with 1024-by-768 (or higher) resolution
AGP Quartz Extreme or PCI Express graphics card
Quartz Extreme is supported by my iBook and certainly also the new MacBook!
Motion requires the standard graphics card found in any MacBook Pro, iMac Intel Core Duo, Power Mac G5, iMac G5, a 1.25 GHz or faster PowerBook G4, or a 1.25 GHz or faster flat-panel iMac.
So you won't be able to install Motion.
Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later
    QuickTime 7.0.4 or later
4GB of disk space to install all applications
Additional 42GB to install all optional templates, loops, content, and tutorials (may be installed on separate discs)
    DVD drive for installation
Playback of DVD Studio Pro 4-authored HD DVDs requires a PowerPC G5 or Intel Core Duo processor
Replication of DVD Studio Pro 4-authored DVDs requires a DLT drive
Recommended Graphics Cards: ATI Radeon X850 XT, ATI Radeon X800 XT, ATI Radeon X1600, ATI Radeon 9800 XT or 9800 Pro, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, ATI Radeon 9600 XT or 9600 Pro, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4500, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and 6600 LE, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL or 6800 GT DDL, NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 or FX 5200 Ultra
And recommended Graphic Cards is just what it says: recommended. It's not required, like with Motion. But with these cards everything will run faster, and real-time stuff will run great.

    steve
You are confusing shutter speed with frames per second, an all too common issue around here. Super slow motion requires fast shutter speeds to prevent motion blur on each exposure but it also requires more than 60 discrete images per second. In ye olden days of shooting film, slow motion was achieved by overcranking the camera. We'd shoot 7s frame per second, 3 times the normal rate of 24fps. This required 8 times as much f-stop because we were shooting at 1/3 the shutter speed, too, 1/120th second instead of 1/40th or so. When the film was projected at normal speed, 24fps, each second of real time was stretched to three seconds of film time.
You can use Motion's optical flow, which uses predictive pixel mapping, to help you stretch out some media but the results are not the same as using the correct acquisition techniques. You can also buy third party effects like Twixtor.

  • Mac G4

I just got one of the iMac G4. I want to be able to use Final Cut pro on it, for editing and stuff. It has 1 Ghz and like 256 MB of ram.....If I get a memory upgrade to 1 gb, would I be able to put Tiger OSX and run Final Cut Pro without any probelems, or would I need more than just more memory. Also, I want to be able to burn DVDs....does it have one on it, or will I have to buy an exernal DVD burner? (Im used to using a G5 at school, and I'd like to make it as close as possible) Thanks a lot, sorry if this isnt what these disscussions are for (my first post).

your computer should be fine for burning dvds. to find out, simply go to the system profiler and look for "disc burning". it is there in tiger anyway, i'm not sure about jaguar. but the info should be somewhere in your system profiler.

  • Walking characters, multiple video tracks/clips with a green screen

I'm pretty new to Final Cut Pro.
    Here is the scenario:
    -I have three characters (puppets).
-Each are recorded on a separate video track.
-Each are recorded with a green screen for the background.
-They are all walking in the same direction.
Question: How do I have all three characters walk along the same path on the same video? I have layered them one on top of the other and have tried to mess around with the different settings (including: Mask Shape filter; cropping the clip). However, they either walk out of the clip or there is not enough room between them with all clips playing at the same time.
Is there some way to isolate the character and their movements?
(P.S. I need them all to be of the same opacity in the end)
    Thanks for your expertise.

    1. I have three characters moving quite a large distance. I am trying to fit all of this movement into one clip and not have the video clips overlapping (I am also dealing with puppeteers in the background, so there is a lot I still have to edit out of the background using Shake).
Good luck on Shake but creating a mask and then processing the key is easy in Motion.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by "executing the keys".
Masking, tweaking, processing, rendering. If you set up each puppet as a separate project in Motion, you can successfully execute on of the keys and then apply the same settings to the other two.

And yes, I need to figure out what it means to export with the Alpha.
Exporting the movie removes all processing so all you're doing is stacking up three puppets moving against a transparent background. Each can be scaled, positioned, keyframed, and have interactive shadows applied to it without requiring the chromakey to be process first. Huge timesaver.

I have looked into Motion, but am having trouble even viewing the video- is very laggy. Most likely my computer is too slow...unless you have any suggestions?
Motion requires some pretty hefty graphics hardware. You must have at least a 4870. But you have not specified in any of your posts what your format is.

  • Studio Replacement DVD - wrong type

I've finally got round to installing FCS onto my new(ish) Macbook Pro. (I've been doing other things since I bought it).
But oh dear - when I try to install from my Replacement DVD (which I bought some time ago when I realised I'd lost the original, but had not yet needed to use) I find this is for a PowerPC, not an Intel.
I can't find the documnetation relating to the purchase of the DVD, and I don't know where I got it from or when.
Could this be it? "FCS UNIVERSAL CROSSGRADE FULFIL-ZML"
Is so what do I do?
If not what do I do?
    Thanks
    Tom

Well, I can find my old FCP 1, 2 and 3 discs, and this Relpacement one - which I'm sure I ordered to replace my FCS 5 install disc.
I was and am still running 5.1.4 on my old macbook pro.
I thought Crossgrade meant that too - but it doesn't give a version on the outside or inside of the disc.
Inside, in the read me, it only refers to Power PCs, and FCS 4 (which I never owned, having jumped from 3 to 5)
    I quote:
    Minimum Hardware Requirements
    • A Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G4 (867 megahertz [MHz] or faster) or PowerPC G5 processor
        • HD features require 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster single processor or dual processors (authoring HD DVDs requires a PowerPC G5 processor)
    • 512 megabytes (MB) of random-access memory (RAM)
        • HD features require 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM or more (2 GB recommended)
    • Display with at least 1024 x 768 resolution
    • AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) Quartz Extreme graphics card
        • Motion requires the standard graphics card found in any Power Mac G5, any iMac G5, a 1.25 GHz or faster PowerBook G4, or a 1.25 GHz or faster flat-panel iMac. Any one of the following graphics cards is highly recommended:
            • NVIDIA GeForce FX 6800 Ultra DDL or 6800 GT DDL (NV40)
            • ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (RV M11), ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (R350), or 9800 XT (R360)
    • DVD drive
    • Replication of DVD Studio Pro 4-authored DVDs requires a DLT drive
Note the ref to FCS there.
I've just come off the phone with Apple support. He thought they'd sent the wrong disc too.
Of course, there's no guarentee that  5.1.4 would work on 10.6.6 anyway - though people on this forum have told me it does.
I was just wanting to install to experiment. I don't have any editing work at the moment but some could come in any time. When it does I'll probably buy an upgrade to the spanking new whatever it's going to be.
    Cheers
    Tom

  • Keyboard shortcuts for APEX applications

    Hi,
I want to add shortcut keys to my APEX application. I have already allowed users to show report, save and delete data using F-keys – I made it with javascript and doSubmit(request) function, invoking pl/sql procedure on F-key press.
Unforutnatelly I don’t know how to invoke something else than pl/sql procedure or request. In my application I have several buttons, most of them are connected to procedures but one, that should have shortcut, invokes JS function. The problem is that I want to have one shortcut function for whole application and put it into library. So that procedures on each page has the same request, and it works very well, but I can’t simulate this way clicking on button with JS. JS invoking by this button is different for each page so I can’t just replace doSubmit() with it.
Do you know any way to simulate clicking on the button or create shortcut for it? Button is displayed as <A> HREF with <IMG>.

    Przemek

Time and motion studies in terms of Gilbreth‘s therbligs do not favor your approach. The keyboard lies in the heart of the area of minimall motion requirements. The mouse requires more movement to accomplish the same task. It’s all in what’s comfortable with the user, regardless of efficiency, or what the user’s bent may be for finding other ways. Antagonistic responses are oxymoronic in terms of the definition of “help”: verb sap.
