Motion 5 - Share to DVD fails

Using Motion 5 on 15" 2011 MBP. Trying to use the Share to DVD option but it always fails with "Media Server application unexpectedly quit" error. What could be causing this?

Not sure what you mean when you say "stopped rendering". Do you get to the point where the compose messge button appears and then your e-mail program doesn't open? If your other share options work okay then I would suspect e-mail program as source of the problem.

  • FCP X share to DVD fails

    Hi All,
I find I am not alone, and I have tried all the remedies that I can understand, to try to fix FCP X 10.1.3 failing to share to DVD.  It shares to Master, but not DVD. I am using a 3 year old 27"iMac with 16 Gigs of RAM, that's running OS 10.9.5.
For the last 2 days I have tried the usual - deleting the preferences and render files and emptying the trash.  I restarted Final Cut and the Mac numerous times. I have read some more complicated ideas, but am sure I will loose my editing work all together.
Can anyone explain what I should try now?
    Many thanks,
    Goomboorian

    Hi again Tom,
I have followed thru: Ran FCS Remover and downloaded a new version of Compressor. Restarted computer after deleting the FCP X preferences and render files, tried to share to DVD - reached 46%  then failed with the repeated error message "The operation couldn't be completed (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)"
So I then tried to share to disk, and this time it failed at 38% and with the same error message.
Here is the pertinent info about this video:
It runs for 34:10:16 (mins/sec/frames).  It is taken from one clip from a Sony HVRA1 DV tape camera. No cuts apart from 20 seconds off the start and 10 seconds off the end. Original sound tract was discarded after synced with aif file from ProTools. One intro fade and one close out fade. I don't think I have ever done a simpler video.
Really need to get this working. Can you talk to Apple?

  • Share to DVD Failed.

Mac Pro 5,1; "Quad Core" 2.8 GHz Quad Core 45nm Xeon W3530 (Nehalem) processor; 8 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cache; Yosemite 10.10.2; FCP X 10.1.4; three HDs: 2x2TB, 1x4TB all internal and two internal Apple Super-drives. I do NOT have compressor installed. This Mac Pro is a recent acquisition for me.
I have successfully shared a number of times to DVD disc with FCPX, however a week or so ago one failed to complete. I got an error message:
The Share Operation "DVD" has Failed.
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)
The share to DVD that failed had an estimated size (by FCPX) well under 4GB. There was nothing unusual about the source file (Event) or the timeline project. The source file was an AVI. I followed the same process that I had used previously with successful results. It now fails consistently with every attempt to share.
It is a mystery to me. I have tried several different approaches to resolving this issue. The least productive was a search on the net for a solution. There are lots of comments but no really specific fix for this that I can find.
Amongst other things I have tried is a cold start of my Mac Pro; ensuring no background apps running; Onyx cleanup etc.; deleting generated project files and so on. Some times after doing this, FCP X shares OK, but then fails on the next attempt to share. I would not care so much if I could at least produce an IMG (ISO) file then burn that to disc, but that consistently fails too.
For the most part I have had to revert to using Premiere Pro and my PC again, so did I waste my money buying a Mac Pro and FCP X? Should I have to buy Apple’s Compressor software to get FCP X to work, I don’t think so?
Most of my work is straightforward and simple VHS conversion, with minor edits, nothing complicated. Typical file size around 2GB or so.
I am thinking that the solution lays with the software developers not my Mac Pro, but I don’t think they can be giving this issue any real attention. Maybe they pushed this release to market without adequate testing, beta or otherwise.
I am really miffed about the whole situation. If there is a solution in this forum somewhere or somewhere else, a link to it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.
      Peter B

I had an opportunity to experiment today. Here is what I did and the results.
Before doing anything, checked that all Generated Event File were deleted, then created a new Event.
    Selected an AVI file.
After the AVI clip was imported, right clicking on the clip in the Event browser and selecting Transcode, shows Create Optimized Media is greyed out and not available.
Dragged the Event to the Timeline and clicked on Share. Selected DVD and then Saved to Hard Drive. Same issue occurred: The Share operation “DVD” has Failed.
Selected Share again and then Master File.
This time the Share was successful, it created a 10GB Quick Time Movie. That is OK, except it does not create a burnable Image (IMG) or a F=DVD disc.
Back to the drawing board, yes? Any suggestions?
    Regards,
    Peter B.

  • Final cut pro dvd fails to share

Over the past few months Final Cut Pro Share DVD fails most of the time. I tried restarting the program and my mac to no avail. I end up moving the video to my macbook and sharing the dvd on it. I am running OX 10.9.5  Final Cut Pro 10.1.3.

The error message seemed to indicate an encoding problem – apparently to DVD specs. See id you can verify this by choosing Output Device>Hard Drive  in Settings in export dialog.  If it fails, leave FCP open and go inside the library bundle and open up the Shared Items folder. If there is an m2v file and  an AC3 file, drag them to the Desktop to save them from being deleted when FCP is closed down.
Let us know what you find out.

  • Share operation dvd has failed QuickTime error 0

My 44 minutes long project in Final Cut Pro 10.0.9 project fails with a message: "Share operation DVD has failed, QuickTime Error: 0". I use OSX 10.9.
Yesterday, I rectified the situation by rebooting the system and starting to "share" again. To-day made a few extra corrections here and there but  nothing simple works. I even removed the background photo from the DVD opening menu but no success :-((
Ross's earlier advice on this forum was:
"Select a short section of your project and export as a Pro Res master file.
If that also fails, turn off BG Rendering; delete project render files; copy the entire Timeline to a new project.
    Russ"
Could you please be more specific. I am a novice to FCP.
1.How to select a short section ? Select 4-5 frames (yellow band) from the timeline ?
    2. How to _export_ as a ProRes file ? From File > Share > Master File (default) ? (Or if it has to be an "export" perhaps File >Export XML ?)
    3. How and where to turn off BC Rendering ?
    4. How to delete project render files ?    File > "Delete Project Redner Files" is not highlighted in the File menu, so how to select this action ?
    5. How to copy the entire Timeline into a new project ?  File >New Project ? Then select the whole of the old timeline, copy > paste into the new timeline ? Or a different method ?
I think that it is better to ask even some simple (for experts) questions  ? :-)
    Many thanks,
    Kris

    1) Either use the Range tool or set in and out points on the Timeline.
    2) Either way will work. For example, Share>Master File and choose Pro Res in the Settings>Video Codec field.
    3) Background Rendering can be turned off in Preferences.
    4) Select the project in the Project Library first.
    5) Create a new project with settings to be determined automatically by first clip. In the original project, Command-A and then Command-C. Open the new project, click in the Timeline window to activate and hit Command-V.
    Good luck.

  • Share Operation DVD Has Failed

I have a project on Final Cut Pro X that is close to 90 minutes long. It consists of several 5 minute video clips. When I try to share the project to DVD it gets about 33% done when I get this error -
The share operation "DVD" has failed.
    The operation couldn't be completed.
    (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain
    error-1.)
    I am running
    Final Cut Pro X (10.1.4)
    OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the clips are native media, try optimizing them.

  • HT201197 how do i fix this (the share operation DVD has failed Quicktime error 0

Ho w do i fix this - The share operation DVD has failed Quicktime error 0

Select a short section of your project and export as a Pro Res master file.
If that also fails, turn off BG Rendering; delete project render files; copy the entire Timeline to a new project.

  • When I "share" to DVD the file is transcoded.  When it reaches 66% it starts to "finishing", but the process stops and does not proceed beyond 66%.  When I stop the sharing process I receive the following message "the share operation dvd has failed".

When I "share: to DVD the file is transcoded.  When the sharing process gets to 66%, it changes to "finishing" "CreateDVD:waiting fro create disk to finish.  The sharing process does no go beyond 66%, and when I stop the sharing process, I receive the message "the share DVD operation has failed."
Is this a problem with FCPX or Create DVD?  How can this problem be resolved?

The handshake between FCP and a hidden app called Create Disk wasn't completed.
Try this. Select a short range and Share>DVD. In Output Settings. set it to Hard Drive to save as a disk image. (Save to your Desktop so you can find it.) For menu Background, click the Add button, then cancel. That is often enough to wake up the disk burning part of this process. If it makes a disk image, try a physical disk.

  • "Publishing to YouTube failed. The request timed out." - This was a 54:10 long project  and "share to DVD" was OK

Another long project (54:10) and new problems .
I am not a frequent FCP user and during my last major project a couple of months ago I experienced "Share operation DVD has failed, QuickTime Error 0" and "QuickTime error - 50"  when exporting to YouTube. Thanks to Ross I overcame then both challenges.
The current project is 54:10 and "share to DVD" went reasonably well. However, during burning several copies (20 copies) of the same DVD, at the very end of the operation I received a message "There was an error buring your disk, The operation could not be completed (DSP Publishing error - 29)". This was puzzling because the copies when played seem all rirght and usable.
Is there any remedy regarding the above (not so important as the copies are playable) and the "Publishing to You Tube failed. The request timed out" ? Sharing to YouTube took over 8 hours and the counter went up from 1 to 100. Any suggestions, please ?
    Warm regards.

Thanks for warning. Will not touch the library bundle any more. However, I will describe the current situation:
Under "Libraries">"Macintosh HD projects and events"> (five items).
    These five items are:
    1. "Updated projects" - containing 2 projects ("Italy" and "Cracow") and 1 footage/clips "Cracow" only;
    2. "Xmas" - containing 1 project ("Xmas" ) and the corresponding footage ("Xmas");
    3. "Rome" - containing 2 projects ("Pandas" and "Rome") and 2 footages ("Pandas" and "Rome");
    4. "New Even Wednesday 11 December 2013" - empty (message  "import media");
    5. "Italy" - no projects, just footage of "Italy"
What a mess  I have made ! - It appears that project "Italy" could be moved from 1 to 5.  A new event (?) called "Pandas" could be created with its own project and footage. No 4 could be deleted. No 2 is OK.
    Please comment.
    I appreciate your patience

  • Half way through a share to Dvd it says it fails

I am trying to share a DVD, as an image file. I have done this several times in the past but today it will not work. I am able to make a master file and that plays well. I try an DVD share to disk or to a physical  DVD they both fail at the 35% mark in the transcoding.  I am baffled to the max. It fails in both FCPX 10.1.3 and 10.1.4
    Something is screwy.

Can you open a project that previously you could share correctly to see whether it works for that project? (You don't need to share the full timeline; use the range tool to select a range and export that section.)
If that doesn't work either, try resetting preferences (hold option & command keys while launching); repair permissions in Disk Utility; create a new user account and run a test project from that account.

  • TS4522 i trying to do my best but share in dvd take long after show is fail

help me please my final cut 10.1.1 to share in dvd take long then fail how can do?

yes.. you should call apple care.
BUT problem 1), 2), and 4) could all be due to this:
If you choose shut-down, and then close the lid the very second the screen has turned off, then you may unintendely close the lid before the computer has turned off completely.
You have to wait 2- 3 seconds more before you close the lid.
You can actually here that the computer is still running a second or two after the screen has turned off.
You have to be very carefull about this.
Because besides draining your battery and having an improper shut down, you may harm your computer by the excessive heat that can be generated while its running with a closed lid. Especially if you store it in a sleeve and/or a bag.
Also the new firmware update, fixes issues of "sleeping" and "waking up" from sleep. Related issues, that is.
So be sure to install the firmware update, follow the instructions careully. (just use "software update" to download and initiate the process)
    sincerely...peter

  • TS4522 Share to DVD error 0

I have been using FCPX for mnths with no isues, in the last day or so when I haev tried to share to DVD with a project, between 50% and 65% it fails and provides the error 0 code.
    Any thoughts?
    Recent update issue?
    Reinstall maybe help?
I have not changed any settings nor moved any source files.
    Thanks

I have done that and suspect this is what is now causing me problems. No idea why? No changes made to anything else? Could a half full hard disk be causing it some errors??  I have 12gb of ram so background work should be the issue. Might try the good old fashioned uninstall and reinstall.

I want to create a HD disc with my Adobe Premier Elements but I am getting low resolution.  When I go to share the DVD to disc the form only offers 8pixels at the bottom.  How do I burn this DVD in HD with higher number of pixels?  I have read other forums on burning HD DVD's but I do not see the option to turn the 8 pi into 40 pi the one forum recommended.  I want my DVD to be HD so I may sell these videos online for my business.  I can't sell them the low quality they are burning now.  Hopefully you can help me.  Thanks.

    Thank you for your reply.
You cannot burn your high resolution video that you can view on your computer to an AVCHD on DVD disc
that will replay through a regular DVD player. But players are marketed under a variety of names with
different support opportunities. One manufacturer may call its product MultiMedia Player, media player, Blu-ray player,
etc.The bottom line is the specifications for each of the players that are candidates for the playback of
the AVCHD format on DVD disc or the format of interest.
If you upload your HD (1920 x 1080) video to YouTube, YouTube converts the video to flash format, but it goes up as the HD video.
But, beware. Look at the YouTube viewing setting when your uploaded video is playing back. The YouTube default is not
HD. It might be 360p, 480p. If you have a 1080p video, then before the YouTube playback, you should be looking
at the video with the YouTube 1080p HD setting for best viewing. That is a YouTube matter.
    Best results depend on you
    a. setting up the Premiere Elements project preset to match the properties of the source media. That means, if
you have 1080p source, you (manually) or the project (automatically) set the project preset at
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR [email protected]
or the PAL counterpart, depending on your region need.
    b. if you upload your video to YouTube using the Premiere Elements feature, there is a HD preset, but you cannot
customize it.....if you need customization, then you can export your Timeline to a file...in this example
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30 or PAL counterpart
and then customize the preset under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of that preset. In increase quality, you might look to increase
the Bitrate under Advanced Button/Video Tab settings - without compromising the file size.
Then you would upload that file to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
All of the above are factors that need looking into in order to determine the why for what you wrote
I have published a shortened advertisement video to YouTube- say 5 minutes-
    and it is low quality
Often SD video upscaled to HD can present poorly. But, you are dealing with a HD workflow so that should not be introduced into the matter. The setup of the project and
the properties of the source video are important, but let us start with the above and rule in or out those considerations first.
Thank you. As always, any clarification needed, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Rendering motion menus from DVD ST PRO

Urgent question regarding motion menus in DVD ST PRO,
I’m creating a DVD including lots of motion menus; on top of my background video I have a template using some overlay shapes from DVD ST PRO. When ”building” the project DVD ST PRO start to render the menus....
The motion video is some good MPEG2 footage from compressor, but is this rendering process during build, a second compression of the already compressed MPEG2 material ... a second compression using the compressor setting from DVD ST PRO preferences? In other words a compression of already compressed material?????
Can I get a better motion menu picture quality by adding my non compressed asset to the project and let DVD ST Pro render and encode the motions menus??? (Only one time)

    Jobbe:
    From the DVDSP User Manual:
    =====================================================
    About Menu Rendering
Depending on how you create your standard menus, they may have to be rendered
into an MPEG-2 video asset when you build your project. The menu must be
rendered if it uses any of the following:
    • Assets assigned to a button
    • Shapes
    • Drop zones
    • Text objects
    • SIF (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2), 1/2 D1, or cropped D1 video
Standard menus that only use a background (whether still or video), an overlay, and
one or more audio files do not get rendered.
Whether the menu gets rendered or not can be important for a couple of reasons:
    • The time it takes. Rendering menus is a process that composites all of the menu
elements, one frame at a time, and creates an MPEG-2 file out of these composited
frames. Depending on your system and the length of your menus, this can take a
significant amount of time to process. See “Menu Preferences” on page 115 for more
    information.
    • Extra processing can affect video. If your menu background video must be rendered,
the extra processing has the potential to change the video a small amount.
Anytime you decode compressed video, process it (such as by compositing shapes
or text over it), then recompress it, you can expect some subtle changes to the
background video. In those cases where you have meticulously encoded your
background video before assigning it to a menu, this extra processing could
    noticeably change the video.
When SD menus are rendered, they are encoded at 7 Mbps using the one-pass VBR
method. HD menus are rendered at 21 Mbps using the one-pass VBR method.
    =====================================================
Then in those cases you better use a non compressed video as background.
    Hope that helps !
      Alberto
