Motion Blur in PPro CC 2014?

Is there a motion blur option in Premiere Pro CC 2014?  This is something that would be incredibly useful in a long-form documentary project with hundreds of moving images.  Normally, I'd send a few images over to After Effects, but enabling motion blur on simple keyframe zooms in Premiere Pro would be a huge a time saver when there are hundreds of images.
Thanks,
jb

No, that is a job for AE but you can file a feature request.

  • Global Switches for Frame Blend and Motion Blur aren't working with the newest version of After Effects 2014.1.1

I have been using After Effects regularly since 1995. So this isn't an operator error.
I am on a new Mac Pro six core with OSX 10.9.5 and 32 gigs of RAM.
Is anyone else having trouble with activating frame blend and motion blur?
Occasionally I am able to get the global switch to appear to be on. It still won't activate motion blur or frame blend.

I'll answer my own issue. The global switches actually work. The distinct dark boxes that indicate when the global switches are enabled have been removed and replaced by a light blue outline of the switch icon.

  • Raytraced reflections not rendering motion blur

I'm pretty sure I've done comps before where motion blur was rendering in the raytraced reflections, but for this comp it doesn't seem to be working. It might be me that's missed something somewhere but I don't think so.
Have a look at the front game (layer 23, Game 05) - the game has motion blur but the reflection of it in the floor doesn't. The floor layer has motion blur switched on. The floor has a feathered mask on it but deleting it has no effect. Raytrace settings set to quality 8, tent.

Please file a feature request. We do want to enable this functionality in the future, but it requires a significant amount of work.
Currently AME can not access Render Settings-level controls in an After Effects comp. As you've found, AME will render your comp as it appears in the comp viewer panel in AE. I have provided a more elaborate answer here:

  • PPro CC 2014.2 on OSX 10.9.5 - Crashing

Is anyone else with the latest PPro CC 2014.2 update on OSX 10.9.5 and experiencing a significant amount of crashing?  I only updated in hopes it would resolve some of the other issues that were bugging me from the previous release.
    Some of the problems include:
    - Random video freezes while playing a timeline.
    - Random issues with the space bar not playing the timeline, or clicking the Program Monitor's play button.  One instance had the video freeze and no way of stopping audio playback.
    - Non-responsive Program Monitor, regardless of resolution.
    - Issues quitting PPro itself with a long hang and "Application Not Responding" after several minutes that require a Force Quit in order to fully close.  This likely is tied into the crashing aspect as I have not had this problem when opening the program, doing a minimal amount of work, and then quitting.
This appears to be GPU related and shows some of the symptoms of a memory leak, similar to how AE CC2014 was responding during audio scrubbing previously.  Immediately after restarting, PPro is fine.  After several minutes of usage, that's when issues occur.
Having PPro open with AE and/or PS at the same time makes the frequency increase quite a bit, but I cannot 100% replicate the issue every single time.  I've forced render timelines so (theoretically) there should be no real taxing effort on the GPU, but even when the entire timeline is "GREEN" the issues are not going away.
Eliminating all effects, filters, etc is not a viable option or solution.  I am working on finishing a timeline and that involves using effects.  All effects have been updated and are the latest versions available.
These issues happen both after quit and after a hard restart (full shut down and power on).  System is a MacPro "Mid-2012" with GTX 680 (official version) running OSX 10.9.5.  Have switched the NVIDIA driver from the NVIDIA version to the OSX version (via the NVIDIA Driver Manager Preferences) and the same problems persist regardless of the driver choice.
I've been holding off on the 10.10.X update, but at this point may have to give that a shot when I finish this current project.

I have submitted at least 4 crash reports when they have come up and resulted in the prompt to submit them.  I do not have hard copies of them accessible currently.  I know that two of them resulted in PPro being unable to save the current state of the project and at least the other two were "recoverable" after the prompt that an error was encountered and the project would be saved.  A bug report has also been submitted.
This is extremely reminiscent of the AE CC2014 behavior that seemed to "build" to a GPU-related memory leak crash after scrubbing audio.  With that memory leak the system started to feel sluggish, performance dwindled, then the software would either crash or lockup - sometimes with a crash prompt, other times completely unrecoverable.  That's the same behavior that I'm experiencing with PPro CC 2014.2 currently.
At this time I have not switched the render to software only, though that will be the next step.  A few effects/plugins are GPU accelerated and I really don't want to lose performance.  I also have not rebuilt the project, exported XMLs and re-imported, or any of the other typical workaround solutions.  I am just trying to get a project finished and meet a deadline - those methods more often than not require rebuilding a lot of the finishing parts of a project.

  • Motion Blur help.

Alrighty, I'm using Photoshop CS4 Extended, and I'm having troubles with motion blur.
When I set the angle to anything above 60 really and distance to about 300 it crashes saying Adobe Photoshop CS4 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
This happens every time. So I tried restarting Photoshop, then restarting my computer, then I uninstalled and reinstalled fresh and it still crashes when I begin to use motion blur, infact I believe it even crashed just by opening the motion blur window for over 40 seconds.
    Any help or ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot Mylenium! I'll do that in a few minutes, by the way heres an update with some more information.
Photoshop crashes when I change the angle to 49 or higher, anything lower is fine.
I went to my event viewer and I found this:
Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 11.0.0.0, faulting module mmxcore.8bx, version 11.0.0.0, fault address 0x0000d62a.

  • My text moves to the wrong place when I apply motion blur!

Hello friends! thanks in advance for any able to solve my problem. when ever I apply motion blur to moving text it repositions the text permanently.... I have to delete the motion blur effect in order to have it text stay on course...any suggestions?

"Delete the motion blur effect"?  Sounds like you are applying an effect, rather than turning on motion blur.
Please provide a detailed explanation of the process that causes the problem.  If possible, post a screengrab as well.
Note that Motion Blur, at its core, does alter the position of animation by blurring the disnace between two moments in time.  When you activate motion blur, it samples the position of your text at multiple points in time to create the illusion of motion blur.  If your text is moving very fast, the results can be surprisingly major.

I’m afraid you may have bitten off more than you might want to chew.
The resulting pixels of an in-camera-blur combine information about the color/brightness of back- and foreground (edit: the result of surface properties and lighting conditions) with motion (basically transparency for this task) in such a way that it seems exceedingly difficult (maybe even improssible) to isolate the foreground in a »pure« form.
One may get a halfway decent mask (as the backgound is at least almost uniform and brighter than the foreground elements) but you may have to manually decontaminate the transparent areas, otherwise the masked object in front of a dark background would have a bright edge.

  • Motion Blur doesn't work in Final Cut Pro

I've been working on stuff and int he past Motion Blur worked and now when I use it the motion blur has refused to work as a preview or after I render it. Is there something i'm doing wrong that's making it happen?
I'm using Mac OS X Leopard, the latest final cut pro and i'm using blue and green screen and Chroma Keyer and image control sinc ei'm making a sillouette and it's worked for me before.
If someone can reply and suggest anything that would be awseome.

Does your object to be blurred actually move...if not then use a blur filter
When you check the motion blur box and click the disclosure triangle what is the Blur percentage? did you try increasing it? If so does it make a difference?

  • How to add motion blur to the shatter effect?

I am trying to add motion blur to the shatter effect, iv created my own custom shatter map with text that remains after the effect is complete, i have tried to add motion blur through the other blur effects and i have not found one that will do the motion blur correctly.
what im wanting is for there to be motion blur on the pieces that are shattering, any suggestions?

There are suggestions toward the bottom of this page, including a tip using the Timewarp effect. I found this by searching for 'motion blur'.

  • .PDF Files blurred in InDesign CC 2014. They will still work if I try to do the same in InDesign CC

.PDF Files blurred in InDesign CC 2014. They will still work if I try to do the same in InDesign CC. I prepare the original in microsoft word and save in a sub-directory as a .pdf. I then use the "Place" command to bring it into the document. Why does it work in CC by not in CC 2014?

Is it an InDesign only issue or does the problem exist when you export a PDF from InDesign?
Does it change when you change the display quality to high?
Why do you prepare a PDF in Word for placing in InDesign. Are you aware when trash comes in trash comes out? Place in InDesign text from Word and style it with Paragraph and Character Styles inside InDesign and export from InDesign a correct PDF.

  • Imported video has "motion-blur" artifacts, but original is fine.

    Hi,
I've just purchased a Samsung SMX-F30 standard-def camcorder. I've shot a few clips and decided to test its compatibility with iMovie. iMovie recognised the camcorder with no problems and imported all my clips without any hassle. However, when I play the clips in iMovie if the clip has any motion, say an arm or hand being waved or head moving, then the image blurs in a way I can only describe as "interlace staggering". That is, alternate lines in the fram shift position left and right alternately. This is really annoying as you can imagine!
A few details about my setup other than the machine details below:
    Clips recorded in 4:3
    iMovie defaults when importing
iMovie version is 8.0.2 (I think)
iMovie imports to an external firewire 500GB hard drive
Clips not analysed for stabilisation after import
Camera records in "H.264/AVC Format" according to the manual
    Recording at approx 5Mbps
Camera was using built-in electronic anti-shake
I hope someone can suggest a few things to try as I've just returned to movie making after owning a Mini-DV based camcorder 10 years ago!
    Thanks
    Stuart

His book gives specific directions and more info on AVCHD with frame rates and bits...so definately buy the book. Your question: It kinda depends on your set up. Many people need to import into imovie 9 just so they can get an editable copy of the footage. So then you make your way over to the events folder and import the events into another program for turning it into progressive and de-interlacing it. You have to becareful because you will have duplicate footage.
He goes into details on how to do this. I have a different workflow because i import on a different machine using imovie6 since i am working with tapes. Then i convert it before i import it again into imovie. My DV footage doesn't get motion blur though so i am only doing this workflow to ensure no quality loss.

  • Motion blur is messing up my composition

    Hey all,
I'm working on a project which involves 3d space (using camera tracker). Everything is going fine until I needed to turn on motion blur for a layer. When i switched it on for the composition, things start to get weird. If you play the video, the null objects visibly "rotate" instantly, move from spot to spot randomly, and it's obvious that something is not right. When i turn off the motion blur, the object right themselves.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I think i can work through it by creating a new composition then dropping the existing into that and turning on motion blur there, but i would rather be able to work with it in the same comp.
I'm working with 1920x1080p footage 30 fps in CS5.5 on a macbook pro 2.52ghz intel core 2 duo. If you need any other info just let me know.
    Thanks
    Dan

OK, here's my best guess. When you turn on motion blur time samples differently. The keyframes that are causing the problems are at a z rotation for the camera of 179º. This made me think you were experiencing a gimbal lock with your camera moves. When the camera gimbal locks the camera orientation flips. It has nothing to do with motion blur being enabled on the layers.
I seldom apply tracking data directly to a camera for this reason. I almost always apply the tracking data to a null then parent the camera to the null. This will prevent gimbal lock problems with the camera.
There is a solution that may work for you. Open up the composition settings, the Advanced tab and change the Shutter phase to 0º. This should prevent the gimbal lock that you're getting. I wouldn't call this a bug, but a better workflow would have prevented the problem in the first place.

  • The fastest/easiest way to Motion Blur in Flash CS4

MotionBlur details and download available here:
    http://ajarproductions.com/blog/2009/03/02/new-flash-extension-motionblur/
If you need to motion blur in a previous version of Flash, I
    highly recommend this article:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/motion_blur.html

In Preview open the picture. In the toolbar at the topp of the picture window. pick Select a drop down window should appear and *Instant Alpha* is at the bottom of the drop down window.

  • Activating 3d for a layer effects motion blur strangely

    Hello all
I have a comp in which a jpg logo moves quickly across frame into position, I have motion blur enabled for the composition and the layer and it works fine. I would now like to do more work on the composition that involves camera moves so I have enabled 3d for the layer containing the logo and my motion blur, well, doesn't dissapear exactly but neither does it stay.
I have a couple of images here to explain better...
    http://www.tinycards.co.uk/aftereffects
sorry if this is a stupid mistake!
    many thanks

ok half fixed it myself, I discovered the "samples per frame" setting in advanced composition settings
if I set this at 35-40 I get a nice smooth blur.
I have a smaller problem now however ,the 3d version is brighter than the 2d version, I assume this is because of the composite mode it uses to merge the 40 or so frames to make the blur. Is there any way of controlling this accurately?
Also does anyone know why motion blur sample rate is automatic in 2d and not 3d?

  • Motion blur options?

    Hello!
I'm working on a new project. Footage is being recorded from a game at 300 fps (then resampled to 30). I'd like to achieve the same motion blur as for footage take with a normal camera. I tried a few things but I'd like to see if there are some other options:
Plain frame blending from framerate resampling from 300 to 30.
Reel Smart Motion Blur plug-in without frame blend switch on. Looks pretty decent at first sight and renders reasonably fast. But under closer inspection it shows a lot of incorrect interpolation at a lot of elements.
Reel Smart Motion Blur plug-in with frame blending switch on. Similar to the previous example.
CC Force Motion Blur plug-in with interpolation switch on. Produces a great result at a cost of really long render times. Also i have no idea where to set the shutter phase (native shutter and interpolating dont work together?).
    Are there any other options?
    Thanks a bunch.

    Hey guys,
its been a while and Im playing around with motion blur of high fps footage again.
I've tried the effect CC Wide Time which blends a designated number of frames before and after the current frame.
I have footage recorded at 1000 fps. In comparison frame mix would blend 40 frames into a single frame (1000 fps to 25 fps) which would represent a shutter angle of 180° (i believe). That doesn't look smooth enough in my mind, so in CC Wide Time i set the values to 80 frames total (39 ahead, 40 behind, 1 current just to be accurate ), which represents the shutter angle of 360° with a phase of -180°.
Now the problem is that i would like to time remap the clip. After a precomp i time stretch the clip to obtain the real life time scale - 1000 fps to 25 fps, with the motion blur i describe above. If i enable time remap and start playing with slowmotion the intensity of motion blur intesity (blurred frames) stays the same, which isnt right. A way to fix that would be to use a linear 40 -> 0 frames blended corresponding to the velocity achieved by timeremaping, but i cant seem to find a way to use clip velocity in expressions.
I could use timewarp and use speed value instead of time remap, but that seems like a pain especially when i think of applying ease to the keyframes.
To think all of this could be avoided if CC Force Motion Blur would offer shutter phase.
    Any thoughts on the issue?
    Thanks!
