So my motion dvd won't let me install the content, luckily i have all the media files on my macbook pro. What i want to do is put them on a external hd and transfer them, where do i go to transfer them and how do i load them in?

Final Cut hangs with "Loading Motion Content" when opening library

When opening one of libraries I almost immediately get a beach ball and see "Loading Motion Content" under "Rendering" in the Background Taks window. Final Cut hangs and I am forced to restart. I don't have any version of Motion and this problem just appeared in this library.
Any suggestions? I've used Preference Manager to trash preferences to no avail.

I followed the procedure suggested by Luis Sequeira1 in several other threads and deleted the flexolibrary. I no longer see any "Loading Motion Content" message when opening the library and the it seems to be ok, with all the media, multicam clips, compound clips, and projects as expected.
I have three questions:
1) What information does the flexolibrary contain?
2) How is Final Cut able to recreate a flexolibrary?
3) Might deleting the flexolibrary be a way to solve all sorts of problems with libraries?

Motion Content Install hanging at 100%

Hi, I just got Final Cut Studio 2.
The first installation disk ran smoothly, but after getting to 100% of Audio Content Disk 1, the install hangs and never finishes. This also happens when Im installing the Motion Content.
The DVD Studio Pro content went on without a hitch. (Iv yet to try Livetype)
Any idea why this is happening? Im installing all of the content to an external HD.

Highlighting motion content??

i create all menue backgrounds including text and buttons in motion. is there any way to use motion content (i could render the buttons in a separate video files) in the dvd menue as buttons, that change when selected and activated?
example: in motion i have black background, create three lines of gray text (chapter 1, 2, 3...) and turning orange wheels in front of each line of text
is there a way in dvdst pro to treat these 3 wheel/text areas as buttons WITHOUT changing the black background. for instance changing only the intensity of the turning wheel!

If I am understanding correctly (Meaning it is something like a wheel with four spokes so the whole thing is rotating and the outer circle and the spokes change colors when selected or activated.) - that you want the wheel to change color - you cannot do that using DVD SP and menus
There are other approaches such as buttons over video with a bit of work

You could hide the button (the motion portion) so there is just a still by working with the overlay and colors so the motion section is revealed and hidden.

Menu Motion Content? means what in English..

Ok, so I'm minutes away from my first dvd and I'm so excited, but the dvd will not burn because I have " too much motion menu content" for what is allowed? What does this mean exactly, and what can I delete or shrink to make it all work? Could the size of the audio files, or image files be a part of this? Is it needed for me to shrink everything down in Photoshop BEFORE I start a project like this? Thanks

Your error message said motion menu content so your problem isn't a slideshow.
What is the length of the video clips you have put in the menu windows for clips?

Where are the Motion,LiveType, and Soundtrack Pro content files located? I need to delete all and start from scratch on my PowerBook Pro. Any help will be welcomed.

Hey Thomas, how goes it? The dang things are hiding all over your drive; I think all of them in the root library>application support.
Happy digging. There's a ton of them. Livetype is right out front, but the soundtrack pro stuff is hiding in the audio folder. Haven't seen the motion stuff in my travels.

HOW TO FIX ERROR CODE "TOO MUCH MOTION IN MENU CONTENT"

I can't seem to find this error posted. When I selected to burn an Image this error came up along with a button "Open DVD Map" which I did and no error flags were present.

The length of the motion content you have used in your limits exceeds the maximun limit. You must reduce the length by editing the movie.
I am using iDVD 7.0.1 not 8 but "7" is not listed.
It's confusing; iLife '08 contains iDVD 7 (also known as iDVD '08)

Error message when importing motion files into FCP

In FCP.
I choose a clip/clips in my sequence. Then choose send to motion project and follow the directions from the training dvd.
By unchecking (embed "motion" content) then save the file with a different name. Then continue with making my graphics over the video clip/clips.
When I am done I then shut off the video layer of the clip in the motion timeline. Then I save the project. Then close Motion and try to import the motion project in FCP.
When I try to import, I get an error message stating "File Error: 1 files(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
I go back to the training file to try the same procedure and it works fine.
Go back to my own project and it doesn't work.
Any ideas? Anyone?

Don't know what the deal is. But I made a new sequence in my project and copied my other sequence with in the new one and then tried to do the whole clip step for step process of send to motion and importing back in and it worked!!!!
I check all the listed settings of my sequence in my browser window and both the old sequence and new sequence are the same.
I am happy that I can move on with my work, yet I am frustrated with the fact that I am not sure exactly what the problem is.

Motion 5.1 problem - not appearing!

I kept having problems with Motion 5.1 and on several occasions trashed it and re-installed the 'paid for' Motion 5.1 from Apple. On the last attempt I found that I was not able to download and re-install the programme unless I also downloaded and installed Maverick so I complied. From that point in time, about a month ago, I've been unable to get the programme to appear on screen, just the screen centre box announcing it, nothing else. Force Quit shows its presence in thenokrmal colouring, not in red to show it's not responding.
Hunting around in the Appe Store, I found an update, Motion Content V 1.1 which advised that all Motion 5 users should download, so I did that. Now I still can't raise theprogramme. That update was not available as an ordinary update through the usual way of Software Update to me. I had to find it!
As an extra precaution, I checked on the OS needed for this programme and note that my Maverick (10.9.1) is supposed to be correct.
Does anyone know what's going on with this Motion 5 and can provide help, please?

Whether or not my achievement is temporary I don't know but, by restarting my computer whilst the Motion5 box was aggravatingly remaining on screen, the opening screen came up and I then selected the programme as normal.

How do i install the Motion2 content?

Sorry for the lame post, but I have RTFM and tried installing Final Cut Studio all afternoon and it just wont install the Motion content or Live Type content.
The apps themselves seem to be fine and i have even registered and got the new free filters, but why oh why wont it install the content? What am i doing wrong?
Its a fresh install (reformated disk) tiger with the latest software updates on a G5 Dual 2.5Ghz. nothing else on there!
I have tried repair permissions too. I thought fresh install on a virgin os it would be so much easier....... How wrong i was.....

No, not the additional filters you get when you register installed fine.
On the install disks (motion) there is a pkg called "install motion content" - it gets about half way through then quits saying it wasnt installed properly.
the app itself (motion) works fine, but there is nothing in the templates or tutorials etc.
In theory (and according to the docs) motion should install this content whilst installing, but it didnt - hence i tried installing it from the "install motion content" icon.
The disks are brand new from apple as part of final cut studio 5, so i doubt its a bad disk. Any ides would be nice.
Is there a way of viewing the contents of a .pkg file or extracting it manualy? I do wonder if the pkg is corrupt.
Any ideas much appreciated.

FPX & Motion not integrated properly - what to do?

I've just installed Motion 5 and I'm trying to use it with FCPX. I want to export a clip from FCPX to Motion. I'm following these instructions:
To send clips or sequences from Final Cut Pro to a new Motion project
In Final Cut Pro, do one of the following:
Select one or more clips in the Browser.
Select a sequence in the Browser.
Select one or more clips in the Timeline.
Choose File > Send To > Motion Project.
In the dialog that appears, do the following:
Choose an export location and enter a name for the new Motion project.
If you want the new Motion project to open immediately in Motion, select the Launch Motion checkbox.
If you selected sequence clips in the Timeline, select the Embed Motion Content checkbox to replace the selected sequence clips in Final Cut Pro with the Motion project you just created (an embedded Motion clip with the .motn extension). For more information, see Sending Selected Sequence Clips from Final Cut Pro to Motion.
Click Save.

But, I have no 'File > Send To > Motion Project' command available in my File frop down menu. I know Motion is installed and works because I can make clips. Did something maybe happen on the install that did not install the menu option?
What should I do to get the full intergrated functionality?

I believe the instructions you are quoting were meant for the legacy Final Cut Pro.
As of yet, there is no "round trip" between FCP X and Motion 5 in the way you are describing.
The best course of action depends on the kind of manipulations you need to do. Note that the effects that you can find in the Effects Browser in FCP X are Motion 5 effects. They have lots of parameters which you can manipulate without leaving FCP X. Plus, they can be opened in Motion by control-clicking (you can open a copy if they are the default effects shipped with FCP X; for other effects you can modify them directly).
For most users, either an already existing effect (or transition or title or generator - they are done in Motion 5), possibly with some tweaking in Motion, or an effect available from a third party (some are free, some paid) is all that they need.
If you know your way around Motion, you will probably be best served by designing the kind of effect you want, publish the required parameters, and have it available any time you want, for any clip you want, with full customization, without leaving FCP X.
If you don't know your way around Motion, then use the effects that already exist.
If you feel that you NEED to open your own movie in Motion for further manipulation, though, I believe the only solution is to export to Quicktime, open that in Motion, and then import back. It seems to be a very big drawback, but as I explained above, probably not something you REALLY need to do often.

Motion 3 quits "ozone plugin"

So I'm working in motion 3 and all of a sudden it quits and tells me the 'ozone plugin' could have caused this. I have been searching online for hours and have found that this is a common issue with motion. I have tried many different things. I have downloaded all the updates and I even uninstalled and reinstalled. Still no luck. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Here's a little bit dated but still accurate info:
It appears that there is no one single, simple solution so I’m attempting here to list what seem to be the most likely fixes. If you get this dialog, read through these and try them out.
One cause of this issue: if you upgraded from Tiger to Leopard using the Archive and Install method, you are now missing a critical framework that didn’t get copied over in the installation process. This is Apple’s fault, not yours, but you have to deal with it. Here’s how it’s described by “specialcase” on Apple’s Motion forum:
“The Leopard Migration Assistant appears to copy over all the Pro Apps-dependent frameworks in the /Library directory, but it does not copy over the contents of /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks, which is where Helium gets installed. Since Helium would then be lost in an "Archive and Install" OS installation, you'd need to get it back.”
First, make sure it’s actually fixable. It’s possible for anyone to force Motion to crash and come up with this error message by using large vector artwork. For the details, see this article by Peter Wiggings. Thanks to Peter for all his hard work to figure this out.
If you aren’t using large vector artwork and you are still getting this message, you can read through this long, convoluted thread, or I’ve gone through and picked out the most relevant parts and listed them here.
Method #1:
Just download the ProAppsUpdate2007-02 and install. If this fixes things, great. Works for some folks, not for others. See below on where to get it. If it doesn’t work, proceed with Method 2 or Method 3.
Method #2:
Basically, you have reinstall Motion in a very specific way, and THEN reinstall the updates.. It’s CRITICAL that before reinstalling your first delete your current Motion application files, AS WELL AS the library receipts located in Root/Library/Receipts - just the Motion.pkg and the update files, as pictured above. Note: you don’t have to reinstall all of Final Cut Studio, nor do you have to reinstall the Motion content - just the application. It doesn’t take very long at all.
After you reinstall Motion 3.0.0 from your disk, you should run the updates IN THIS ORDER:
1. ProAppsUpdate2007-01
2. ProAppsUpdate2007-02
3. Motion302Update
You have to install the first two ProApps update before applying ANY of the .0.2 FCS updates.
You can find the ProApps updates here. You’ll need your Final Cut Studio serial number. IMPORTANT: if running the updater doesn’t work, trying opening the installer package and running the updates individually.
1) Manually download the ProApps updates.
2) Right-click to open the contents of ProApplications update.
3) Open the "Contents" folder and find the "Packages" folder.
4) Try installing each of the 6 packages. Not all of the packages can be installed:
AppleHDVCodec.pkg: not allowed
AppleProRes422.pkg: allowed
Helium.pkg: allowed
IMXCodec.pkg: not allowed
PluginManager.pkg: allowed
ProAppsEffects.pkg: allowed
If you are running Motion 3, you may only need the 2007-02 package.
If you are running Motion 2, then try the same fix, but by downloading just the 2007-01 package instead.
Method #3:
Here is another way without doing a complete re-install:
1. Pay for and download Pacifist.
2. Put your Final Cut Studio install dvd in the drive.
3. Drag the installer icon onto the pacifist icon.
4. Click "skip" for all the media content. You will see a list of all the install packages on the DVD.
5. Select this one: "Contents of MotionGroup".
6. Click the "install" button in the upper left of the window.
7. Only the motion installer will execute and replace all the frameworks, components etc in your library.
The reason that a fresh install does not work, is that the installer assumes an "upgrade" and leaves the original files
in the various library directories alone. These files must be replaced and pacifist will save you about a day's worth of re-installs.
Finally, the newer Prokit update (4.5) in combination with Motion 3.0.2 seems to be fixing this problem for many people.
But now Compressor doesn’t work!!!
If your Motion fix broke Compressor, you’ll need to follow the directions in this Apple article. The fix involves reinstalling BOTH Motion and Compressor. Yes, a pain. But it doesn’t take that long.

Content speed/aspect ratio

OK, I did some searching on how to change Motion content clip speeds (scrub filter, change fps, etc), I'll try those out.
But, I'm a bit confused about the source media Motion came with. For example, I'm doing an NTSC project and I use "Lightning Flares 3". "Right-click ---> reveal source media" shows the pixel aspect ratio as a PAL setting and the source file is 25fps. I did not change this...first time using it. Oh yeah, I brought it into FCP to try for re-mapping and the item properties were: 720x576, 25fps, Motion JPEG-A, PAL-CCIR 601, Upper (Odd) field dominance.
Now, I would like to understand the "gears under the hood" (as Patrick calls 'em). Is the source file 25fps because it was created with a MotionJPEG-A compressor? Why is the clip a PAL clip to begin with? And if I'm working NTSC, should the pixel aspect ratio be square or NTSC D1/DV? I know that in FCP, I have the canvas set to "show square pixels" so I know what it's going to look like on a TV (right?) since I don't have a monitor hooked up yet.
Please help me help this project.

Use of motion clips in commercial production

I recently produced a commercial using elements from the motion content library as part of the overall production. My understanding is that the content files are stock media files and can be used legally.

I have motion 3 project convert to 5

When I open a motion 3 file to convert to motion 5 and askes for missing files ie lightning2.mov in motion 3 they are located in Library, application support,motion,content,particle images.
BUT not the same in 5 and canot find the file with search, but the file is shown in motion library
how can I find them to re link
