Motion control points

I am trying to follow a tutorial for Motion.  I have to draw a line using the 'Paint Stroke' tool then edit the points with the Edit Control Points' tool.  However, when I select the 'Edit Control Points' tool the control points don't show.  I think I've tried everything.
I hope it's something simple.
Thanks

Hi Andy,
Thanks for replying.  I've worked out what was wrong.  In the view menu the 'show overlays' item wasn't checked. I had looked at this item a dozen times but thought it was just a menu heading as all the other items were checked.  I knew it was something very simple like this, some days you just can't see the wood for the trees.
Thanks for trying.

  • Deactivate the "Control Point # X,Y" labels in Motion 3?

Is there away to turn off the overlay labels that pop up when you're animating mask and shape control points? They're obstructing my view obscenely.
I can't figure out how to turn them off. There's not an option to deselect them in the View -> Overlay menu.

  • How do I move all of the control points at the same time at the Path Text preset?

I'm doing motion typography, I used the Bezier Shape Type, it has 4 control points, I saved the custom preset I made, but the problem is, is it possible to move them at the same time? I'm animating per letter to form a word.
Additional Question: Is it possible to add more control points? If then, how?
    Thanks in advanced.

Double-click the path shape to invoke the transform box. Read up on how to use the path tools to insert and modify points.

  • Simple straight line motion control with brushless motor and encoder/microswitch

I want to go build a motion control system/program using labview. I have a brushless motor and a controller and a National instrument DAC (NI USB-6009). This is how my system looks like: receive an input signal 4-20mA, this should be converted to 0-5V for the controller for speed, controller should move motor till it hits micro switch. The micro switch/encoder should generate a signal (5V) back to shut the controller. I want to record the position of the motor in labview. How do I do this? How do I set the system up? Thank you in advance

    Controller from anaheimautomation: MDC151-050301
    Motor:BLWSG234D-36V-4000-R3
    Controller and motor go together.
The input signal for the system will be 4-20mA. Using this signal I will correlate it to a specific voltage which will drive the speed of the motor. This will displace the lead screw linearly. I will have a microswitch that will be triggered by screw and will relay a signal to shut the motor. I want find a way to record the position of the shaft/leadscrew at that specific point. I want to identify a home position, halfway position and full length travel position. I will use 3 swiches or 1 switch in three positions to identify all these points.
My end result should be whwn I turn on the system or start the program It should detect whether it is at the home position, if not travel to home then respond accordigly given an input signal(4-20mA).
How will I program such on labview...finding all the right icons to record the data is such a mess for me since i'm a beginner.
    Thanks

  • Simple stepper motion control

Hello all, I am completely new to motion control and my head is spinning with all the options so please bear with me, all help is much appreciated.
I am trying to build a control which will perform point to point movement of something like this:
    http://www.haydonkerk.com/LinearActuatorProducts/StepperMotorLinearActuators/LinearActuatorsHybrid/S...
It will be moving to a specified point and then returning to the "home" position, holding and then repeating for a number of cycles. The timing of the movement needs to be pretty accurate, each movement cycle will last about 2 tenths of a second. There will be a few parameters that the user should be able to select before beginning the test.
I think I will need to execute this in real time and I am really hoping to do the programming in Labview for no other reason than I like it better than text based. So my question is really what hardware and software am I going to need to get this done? I went through the info on NI's website and due to my lack of background knowledge it was pretty confusing. It looks like as far as software goes it will basically be Real-Time module. For hardware it looks like a controller and a driver. If I had the PXI-7332 controller and the P70530 driver am I good to go? Or am I missing some critical aspect
Also, if any has any good recommendations for some reading on these sorts of things I would be interested in that as well.
    Thanks.

    Hi Nick,
We've got two basic options for motion control- PC based, or RIO based.  These types of questions are actually quite common for support, if you'd like to contact NI. If not, post back and I'd be happy to help.

  • Making a 3D path (or how do i get Zdepth on a control point?)

I'm sure this is either really simple or totally impossible:
I want to draw a path, that has 4 control points. Control point #2 forms a 90degree angle between points 1 and 3 (no problem here).
However I'd like to have Control point #4 "above" control point 3. I don't see a control for Z depth in Geometry panel, and if i try to edit it manually, all i get is the pen tool with a slash through it.
Can this be done and if so, how?
    Thx

If you are using one of the shape tools, they only have 2 dimensions for each control point.
However, you can create a 3D path with the motion path behavior - just depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

  • Too Many Control Points

When I use the Paint Stroke Tool to create a line I get over 300 control points. Is there a way to decrease the number of points written. I couldn't find the topic in the manual. I also checked Preferences to see if it could be changed there too. Any thoughts?

Thanks. That approach works well. I was previously watching an online tutorial that uses a 'write-on' technique and the author use the brush and it made very few points.

  • Motion control et Labview 6.1

    Bonjour,

  • 64 bit motion control ready now?

I recently upgraded LabVIEW to 2010 64bit. Then it turned out the previous motion control VIs don't function in 2010 64bit version. The error points to the failure to load "FlexMotion32.dll". It makes sense, apparently that DLL file is 32-bit.
I did a search on ni.com about FlexMotion. This page http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3753 illustrates that "FlexMotion32.dll" is required for the communication between LabVIEW and motion controller board. Tried to find if "FlexMotion64.dll" is available, but it doesn't seem it exist yet.
So my question is how I can update the motion control to 64 bit.
    Solved!

    Hi Ian
We value your feedback on our NI-Motion Software. We have a limited amount of resources but will take your recommendations into account for the driver. I am sorry that we do not have a 64 bit driver for NI Motion and hope that this does not slow down the development of your latest project. Please let us know anytime you have feedback we are always trying to take into account what our customers need and manage our time according to it.

  • 3D curve and control points

    Hello All-
I'm sure this is an easy answer; just can't seem to figure it out. I've drawn out a curve with a few control points. All I want to do is adjust the control point so the curve is 3D. Each point should have an X,Y and Z value. But when I switch to 3D the points only retain the X and Y. I am not able to move the points in any view other than the one I drew the path in.
What's up with that? Am I missing something or ...
And why can't I see the curve in the viewport unless I have Adjust Control Points or Adjust Item Tool active. Shouldn't a curve (shape) inside a group be visible at all times?
What I want to is create curves that will go around an object and I can attach a brushstroke to the curve. Can I do that some how?

Curves drawn with the shape tools, as you have discovered, are 2-D: the control points only have X and Y coordinates. They can live in 3D space, but they live on a plane.
One fix is to instead use a motion path behavior - its control points can be manipulated in x, y, and z.
There is another fix using a replicator and a frozen sequence replicator behavior, but it all depends on what you are trying to do.

  • What to consider when shooting in motion control?

we are shooting with RED camera at 25 fps a model moving toward camera saying words in arabic using motion control track moving backward.
then the model will show up from a diferent place to walk towards us so composed we see 2 of the same model saying the phrase in lip sync
then 3 and 4 till we have 6 of the same model talking together in the same time, i wonder how to make them lip sync at the same time. i thought we record dirty sound from the first take to all phrases and then playback it in the following shots to maintain the right time as a guide.

You don't mention whether or not you used a green/blue background...  without that, your biggest will be keying.
If I understand you correctly (and you shot green) then all you need to do is pick a sync point like the first word of a sentence and mark each clip. That will allow you to visually check the sync as you work out the compositing details. When the comp is complete, delete the audio from all but one track.

  • Stubborn IK control points

Hey I've come across this problem a couple of times while working in CS5 and can't find anything online that references this specific problem. When editing control points in a shape that has been boned, I sometimes come across a stubborn point and Flash will not allow me to move or delete it.  Sometimes the point will move across the screen at random and I will not be able to wrangle it back in. Is there any way to tame my wild control points?

But it only requires one emitter per rectangle...
This project takes the 10 seconds to draw the rectangle, but you can always speed it up and drag the drawing part past the beginning of the project so you start with it already there.
I don't think, however, you can animate the motion path...

  • Problem with data acquisition and motion control

I have PCI-6024E and PCI-7342 cards on a single PC. Servo motion control works fine when it goes alone or is accompanied by one point data acquisition in a while loop, but when I start data acquisition with specified sample rate, the motor moves with breaks.
Does anybody know what is the problem? Is it possible to fix it?

How are you performing your motion? Is it a position move or a velocity move? How are your triggering the data acquisition? Using breakpoints on the 7342? If so, are you using single breakpoints or modulo? How are you configuring the data acquisition rate? Are you triggering just the start to the acquisition and the unsing the daq scan clock or are you using the motion controller to send the scan clock itself?

  • Motion control, Configure buffer error

I am working on 3 axises motion control, which are contour movement. After I configured buffer and write buffer, I got an error message "Configure buffer.flx error -70078". It said I may pass invalid data. But I checked all passed data(board ID,resource, buffer, size, total points, contour data, etc.) for configure buffer and write buffer, they are all correct.
I am wondering where the problem is? Is it initialization problem? I did initialize before I configure buffer.
    Thanks in advance

I would recommend trying one of our shipping examples for contouring. Which programming language are you using?

  • How can I use flex motion control VI without hardware?

I would like to try and simulate the motion control of my system before i hook up the motion control card. But when I use the VI in flex motion contro took kit it asks for address or something and gives me an error. Can't I just simulate without hardware?

    Hello,
The only way you can use FlexMotion without any hardware is to set it up as Open Loop Stepper Control. Otherwise, you will get errors when no encoder signal is fed back to the controller.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
