Motion export blurry in DVDSP

i exported a sequence from motion
720 by 480 to animation and just basic ntsc dv
i imported the file to DVDSP to use as a motion menu
and some of the text is fuzzy and just not crisp...its really frustrating
the video itself plays beautifully as a standalone .mov but when imported into a DVDSP project..becomes grainy and just not crisp...

after investigating through the threads, it seems as though this is a commin problem
THERE MUST BE AN ANSWER to creating motion menus in Motion and having text appear crisp in DVDSP...or else someone really dropped the ball...
please and thank you

  • Images In Motion Are Blurry

Anyone know why images I am importing into Motion from Photoshop would be blurry? I am importing them at 100% so not sure what the issue is, or will they look fine on a Plasma?

    hi tom,
and the photoshop file is set up for RGB not cymk?
i read the recent post about project sizes and anamorphic.
I always create a motion project that is 1024 x 576 and squish it to Full height anamorphic ( ie 768 x 576) on output only. I import the motion files into FCP, squish em there, add clocks, freezes, bars and tone etc from there and then export FHA from there. But I just tried the other way and it works well except that I have to remember to set the imported footage to not anamorphic. Thats a small pain, not much but a little. I might forget one day, i'm like that. In my way you judt bring in the footage or files or whatever and they are what they are no problems. I'm sure someone will have a good reason why i shouldnt so it like this, and i'd be interested to know.
Not that that helps you, just thought i'd another flavour into the mix

  • FRAME "GLITCH" AFTER MOTION EXPORT

    HELP!
I'm having a problem with some sort of frame "glitch" when I export my Motion project to Quicktime.
Everything will be playing back fine & then there will be one frame that looks all whacked out.
    Just for that split second.
It's in different places every time I re-export.
You can view the bad frame here: http://www.photropics.com/bad.jpg
& the good frame(right after it) here: http://www.photropics.com/good.jpg
This project has a lot of movement going on including a particle emitter i the first 20 seconds but that's not where the glitch is.
You'll see that in this particular export, the glitch is actually in a clone layer that I'm using as a reflection of a video.
This is inconsistent though, it can be in different places in the scene in every export.
Export settings are on RENDER BEST / ANIMATION / FULL RESOLUTION / 720 X 480
    Same as my setup.
    Very frustrated!
I'm starting to question my machine.
I'm working with a PPC G5 Dual 2 Hhz. machine with 3 gigs of RAM.
It's got the original graphics card in it, which is always a problem for me but will that affect the export quality?
I know it's not an Intel machine but it should be able to handle a 1.5 minute clip from Motion. Shouldn't it?
I'll have a new Intel machine in a few months but need some help with making this work if possible.
    Thanks in advance.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks for the response Adam.
I didn't mean to be so vague about the details originally.
I am exporting out of motion as a Quicktime movie to eventually be brought into DVD Studio Pro & burned onto DVD.
I tried bringing the file directly into DVDSP as a Motion project & it took 18 hours to do a build but
as a QT Movie, it only takes minutes.
If I change the animation codec, will I lose quality? I want it to be as clean as possible.
I have cleared the RAM cache & with the same result.
I might try the FCP import idea but I haven't used Compressor before. The last time worked with video & I used FCP was when it was in version 2 so I'm somewhat new. I've crashed coursed in FCP 6, LiveType, Motion & DVDSP so I just haven't gotten to Compressor yet.
Tell me though, did you look at the samples I uploaded?
Is this just a weird dropped frame or what do you think?
I also tried exporting at Half size & the glitch is still there & in the same place.
I thought it might be something within my motion project in conflict but there's nothing in the particular spot that is starting or stopping or anything.
    Anyway, thanks again.

  • FCP 7, viewer clear, but canvas and export blurry

Started with screen recordings provided to me that made using quicktime 10
took quicktime 10 screen recordings and converted them to prores422 HQ in compressor (settings from compressor below)
    imported into FCP 7.
They look great in viewer, reasonably sharp and crisp, but them very blurry in canvas and when I export to quicktime movie (not using quicktime conversion). Been using FCP 7 a couple years but my knowledge in many aspects is sub professional.
Tried creating a new sequence to get the sequence to match the settings of the quicktime prores422 screen capture movies but to no avail. The settings of the sequence are not the same as the screen capture movies...I even tried to change the sequence settings but no luck (then exited FCP without saving so as not to screw anything up).
Im probably breaking basic rules here...any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!!!
Compressor settings for file conversion above:
Name: Apple ProRes 422 for Interlaced material (High Quality)
Description: Apple ProRes 422 10-bit video with audio pass-through. Settings based off the source resolution and frame-rate.
    File Extension: mov
    Estimated size: 412.09 MB
    Audio: multi-track passthrough
    Video Encoder
    Format: QT

    Height: (100% of source)
    Selected: 1440 x 900
    Pixel aspect ratio: Square
    Crop: None
    Padding: None
    Frame rate: (100% of source)
    Selected: 15.002
    Frame Controls: Automatically selected: Off
Codec Type: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)

    Spatial quality: 50
    Min. Spatial quality: 0
    Temporal quality: 0
    Min. temporal quality: 0

Here is additional information on the problem.
My sequence includes mostly screen captures, but also some other video (settings below) and some JPEGs.  The other video and the JPEGs look fine...both in canvas and when I export sequence to quicktime.  The screen captures look terrible...text is very blurry.  Same screen captures look fine in my viewer, just goes awry when in canvas and export.
Format of screen capture clips (quicktime 10 screen capture > compressor prores 422 HQ):
1440x900, apprle prores 422 HQ, data rate 5.6 MB/S, pixel aspect square, field dominance none, composite normal.  Started with 4 files of the screen capture from compressor, then edited them into many little pieces in FCP...the size of those files post compressor are around 2GB each.
The sequence (by default) had settings of:
frame size: 720x480 NTSC DV 3:2
pixel aspect ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV 720x480
    field dominance lower(even)
quicktime compressor settings: apple prores 422 LT
Vast majority of clips are the same as screen capture clips.  But just in case its part of the problem, I have also have a couple video clips of that have settings:
    frame size:  720x480
    compressor:  DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    data rate 3.6mb/s
pixel aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
    field dominance: Lower/even
also have a couple JPEGs, their settings are:
    frame size 2500x2084
    compressor: photo-jpeg
    field dominance: none
Thank you!!!  I've been using final cut a while, but don't think I would have gotten anywhere without the help and generosity of people that are way beyond my knowledge and skills.  I am happy to provide any more info.  I really appreciate it.

  • Edited video is exporting blurry as matched source, but looks great in the monitor before export?

I've pulled in 5 videos and clippled them up to create a 50 second reel showing short segments of each. The video is for an HTML 5 embed on a website so it's at an odd size (235x162).
Everything looks great when viewing the editable composition within Premiere (and I've tried this in After Effects as well), but when I go to export the video ends up blurry no matter if I match the source or fiddle with the settings.
I'm guessing something is going on due to sourcing from multiple video files that are in different wrappers and codecs? If so, why would I be able to edit so cleanly (and render in program), but cannot export at the same quality??
If it's the codec issue, what's the best format to convert all of these to if it's exporting to an HTML 5 video (if that last part even matters)?
Does anyone have experience with the best settings for exporting .mp4 h.264 for web use? I want to get this thing small in file size, but still good quality.
Here's a rundown of the imported videos I've been clipping up assuming its an issue with one of them (audio does not matter, we're not exporting it):
    MPEG4, AVC, Variable rate, Progressive
    Quicktime MPEG-4, AVC,  Progressive
    Quicktime MPEG-4, AVC, Progressive
    MPEG-4, AVC, Variable rate, Progressive
Quicktime MPEG-4, Sorenson 3, Not progressive but I'm not seeing what it is
    Thank you!

    Hi Collin,
Try 1 pass VBR instead of 2 pass VBR in the encoding settings.
    Hope that helps,

  • Motion project import to DVDSP

I have seen this topic, but haven't seen a solution to my particular problem: when I try to bring a Motion project into DVDSP, I get an Import Error box which reads in part, the files "do not match the current project's video format or their file format is not supported." Both applications are set to NTSC 4:3. Any advice would be appreciated.

I actually don't use Motion myself, although the app is installed. As a test I opened up one of the template projects and simply saved it to the desktop. I didn't add any file extensions, but the icon on the desktop was as I expected it to be... Finder identified it correctly as well.
I imported this in to DVDSP using the import tab of the assets pane... like David there were no issues. It came in fast, and right now is showing a 'yellow' status next to its name.
It can be dragged on to a menu to set the background just as I would expect to be able to do.
If the problem isn't with the preferences, try downloading and installing the proapplication support update for your system. The 10.4 version is here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport31macosx104.html
It may not make any difference, but if you haven't already installed it, you probably should!

  • Why is my FCP export blurry/pixelated?

I'm using FCP 4.5 (upgrade next year!) and complete newbie to FCP/video post.
I've captured video from a Sony PD150 using "DV PAL 48KHz". Now when I play back the video is horribly blurry and pixelated. When playing, but when paused it's nice and sharp! Is this just the "Canvas"?
When I export the clip to "Quicktime Movie" using "Current Settings" the video also comes out blurry - although according to the manual it's supposed to be "broadcast quality". If I change output settings to "Uncompressed 10-bit PAL 48KHz" it's way better.
My questions are - why is the default export so blurry? And what format/codec do I need to export for hi-quality DVD playback - i.e. format/codec to import into DVD Studio Pro or iDVD?
    Thanks!

No render bars are showing. I don't believe I've changed the footage in any way. This is all working off a brand new project and straight after capture. To give you an idea..
This is a still frame in FCP when it's not playing:
    http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/4552/stillw.png
This is when it is playing:
    http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/9269/moviee.png
And this is an export to DV - PAL:
    http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4733/dvpal.png
What format do I need to be exporting to plug into DVD authoring? If I can export ok to this format maybe I don't need to worry, although I'm still confused why export to DV - PAL is giving such a poor picture since I thought that was like the lossless format for post editing?

  • FCP exporting blurry...?

I am importing .mov files that someone is capturing using Camtasia. When I import it into FCP its looks great in the viewer. The text on the pages that are in the video are nice and clear, but when I view it while editing and view it in the canvas its blurry, even after rendering or if i export it.
I also have tested it in imovie and when i export it in imovie or view it in imovie, it looks great.
Why would there only be a problem in FCP?
    mov i am importing is:
    H.264
    1040x858
even when i make the sequence settings those exact settings it does not look right nor is it even clear.
any ideas?? why would imovie do this WAY better than FCP??

    Matt,
as noted you are trying to edit a format that is a delivery not an editing format, H.264 that is.
For a full list of editing formats check out FCP Easy setup.
Also your frame size and pixel aspect (0.682) are not standard (In sequence settings, Command+0, you'll find a list of settings for standard frame size and pixel aspect ratio), however, if that is the frame size you want you can indeed customize certain settings.
Main point is that FCP will work best if you convert your H.264 material to an editing format like DV or ProRes (you could use [this free application|http://www.squared5.com> for that purpose).
Here a useful tutorial on how you could get started with mpeg streamclip:

  • Slow motion exporting problems

Hi there I had posted a topic with this same problem a couple of weeks ago and got some great suggestions, but unfortunately have to report that nothing has worked! I have tried deinterlacing, got a plugin from the net which was meant to have smoothed the slow motion, all looks well in the FCP and also in the exported quicktime, so does anyone know why it looks terrible when I watch the dvd back?
an example is that Someone took a photo of the couple I was filming, the flash looks square! And when I moved the camera around while filming, the edges of people look square. Have an idea it may be something to do with pixels, but I dont know what!
I am really at my wits end trying to find solutions and am about ready to fire my mac out the window! Can anyone help and save the mac?

It depends on the formats you import. Are you slowing your footage down -100%? make sure you have constant speed checked. Maybe your time remapping it.

  • After Motion Export - Performance is terrible and slow

Everything works great with my entire FCS but once I export anything complicated from Motion with nothing open or a bunch of applications open my imac slows down tremendously. nothing but the color wheel and I cant even expose' without a 1-2 second pause on all switching of applications, saving anything... This lasts till I restart.
    iMac 2.4 Core 2 Duo 4GB ram 640HD.
Final Cut Studio (3) up to date.
Anyone else having this issue? Thanks!

    A couple thoughts:
1: Are you saying that AFTER (like the title suggests) the export that your system is still unresponsive?
2: Does the same thing happen if you export through compressor?
3: Try and clear your RAM in the "Mark>RAM Preview" menu
It sounds like your iMac is choking without memory. Not sure how much you have but there's never enough for Motion.

  • Motion export to FCP

    Hi,
I was wondering how you should export a audio-behavioured project in motion (imported directly from FCP) to FCP again, without making a quicktime movie of it, which would take LONG time! Will you could make a .xml og something? - something which wouldn't take severel of hours...
hope anyone out there knows a soultion!
    thanks!

Why would you export anything at all? Why not just import the Motion project file directly into FCP? And when you say "imported directly from FCP" do you mean you sent your clips from FCP to Motion? If so, if you select the Embed checkbox (selected by default) the Motion project will already be in your FCP timeline.

Simply import the Motion project file and edit it into the FCP timeline.

  • Motion Export glitches - PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have had it with Motion.
I am trying to export something that I have had done for 3 weeks and each time I export it a new glitch comes up on the export. For instance - graphics will be missing, video will all of the sudden gitter, and emitter will move, a graphic will move. Is this program for real? How can anyone run a business with this???????
I have a totally clean system. Everyrthing has been reinstalled - Is Motion just the buggiest progam ever? Please help me if you can - My clients are hanging in the balance. Im exporting as an animation millions plus. Not using compressor. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Thanks for the info -
Is there any way around it?
Why is there that size restriction?
At this point - Im resolved to render pieces til they work properly and re-assemble them in FCP or Motion withouth the 2048 size problem and cut my losses. That will take far less time then fixing all of the graphics that exceed that size restriction. I love the ease of Motion - its just frustrating some of the bugginess Im getting from the program.
Anyway - let me know if you have any other helpful ways around this -
Thanks for helping me solve this - I'll have to find more creative ways or use 3D plugins to make things 'fly' at you in the future.

  • Motion Export for Broadcast

Using Avid and FCP to export uncompressed [None] QT clips into Motion for :30 broadcast spots. I am previewing/monitoring Motion video output thru Kona LHe card to broadcast monitor. Video out of Avid thru SDI Mojo or FCP thru Kona to this monitor looks great. Upon import of video clips into Motion, Kona preview of Motion timeline containing clips are choppy and interlacing is pronounced. Other Photoshop-generated graphic elements on same timeline are not. I suspect an interlacing issue, but am unable to resolve this. I note with interest that these video files arrive in Motion showing 'None' as a listing in the field order indication in the 'Properties' tab. I select the 'Lower Field' in the 'Properties' tab to negligible effect. Perhaps motion blur, field rendering, etc., will help, but am soliciting assistance from the experienced among those here on the forum.

I understand WHAT "none" means, I was asking why. Why not stay in the same codec the video is edited in?
As it is, have you viewed the "none" clips in QT? Perhaps the export created the problem?
For NTSC broadcast, your best choice is Uncompressed 8-bit especially if you're adding text and gfx in Motion. It contains the same color sub-sampling as DV50 and is much friendlier to GFX and text.
But in Motion, you don't have to make the decision on codec until you export. Export your footage in it's native codec, and work with it like that in Motion. On export, choose the Uncompressed setting.
