Motion freezing at 92%

Hey Guys,
Just started using Motion - amazing software.
However, in my first video project, the export seems to freeze/hang at 92% without fail. It doesn't crash, because I can cancel the render and continue using Motion - but it just stops at 92% and won't budge.
Anyone else experiencing this? What could be causing it?
My Computer:
MB Pro Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013
2.6Ghz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
Cheers,
Rick

Hi,
welcome to the posts
from your crash log it seems that the fxplugin is causing the problem. Are you sure that you have the latest version of this installed?
thanks

  • Final cut to Motion Freezes

I'm trying to send a clip to Motion, but every time I try to send something, I get the color wheel, and Final Cut freezes. The clip is only 6 seconds long, and Final cut used to send things without a problem. Anybody have any advice?

Would be helpful to know what format your clip is (remember that formats like H.264, Mpeg4 etc are delivery not editing formats) and if you have tried things like [trashing preferences|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] or creating a new project and import the clip in the newly created project.
If you need to keep going as an alternative you may export your 6 seconds as QT movie (not conversion) self-contained, which will not affect quality and import that in Motion.

  • Why are my movies from Motion freezing and skipping after exporting them?

So I just got motion and was playing around with some slow motion stuff, they never play smoothly when I am trying to watch them in motion, actually no video in motion plays smoothly weither it has slow motion or not.  Anyway, I would finish one clip, export it, then try to watch it with quicktime and it would skip and freeze in quicktime to.  I thought it might be a problem with quicktime so I restarted my computer and the same thing happened.  I tried watching a video that wasn't from motion and it played fine.  I tried playing a clip from motion again and it did the same thing, so I tried watching it in iTunes, and iTunes did the same thing.  I tried watching it with Picasa, Picasa did the same thing.  I have no idea why it is doing it but it is very anoying when I can't see how my own video turned out.  Anyway any help would be appreciatied!  Thanks!

what codec are you exporting from motion? if its a huge old codec like 8-bit or 10 bit uncompressed then your computer may not be able to handel the playback. have you tried exporting doem small version to see your work?

  • Motion freezes, Mac freezes too

making a pixelated face effect (duplicate clip, apply mask, add pix filter, hit record and follow the movement with mask), Motion keeps freezing after 2 minutes or so of effect (prog is 1hr long!), Mac freezes too except mouse movement. Cure - unplug, reboot > problem recurs.
Clip is self-contained QT from FCP, on internal RAID drive. Tried permissions repair, reboot etc, also logging in as new user - same deal. Anyone else got this trouble?

If you figure 1 MB per frame times 30 frames per second times 60 seconds per minute times 60 minutes, my calculator comes to: 108,000 megabytes or 108 gigabytes - your 8 GB ram doesn't quite cut it.
    You might try this tip:
    http://proapptips.com/tips/article.php?story=20050312040230626
and since 5.1.2 of FCP gives you access to Motion filters, rather than blurring, you could probably use the pixelate filter...

  • Motion freezing a lot

Somehow I manage to make motion (and my entire computer) completely freeze quite a lot. This often seems to happen as a result of a lot of changing of settings. It never used to be this flakey. Any suggestions anyone please?

the first link mentions Patrick's post.. and I quote..
"There are ways to improve Motion's interactive performance.
    1) If you're using Ram Preview, clear it periodically.
    2) Keep your render quality at Draft or Good until the very end.
    3) Text is especially draining of resources in Motion 3. Turn off layers you've finished with to improve performance while you work in other areas.
    4) Definitely turn off Timeline and Layer thumbnails.
    5) Don't have any layer selected when playing - the thumbnail for the Inspector Tab has to be generated when you stop."
Also, do you have any illustrator files in your comp? or any wma files in your browser? Have you tried trashing your preference file and restoring permissions? Is your drive close to full? and so on....

  • Motion freezing mid render

Can anyone help, this is fairly urgent. I have a project that has to be in monday, whenever I render it, it basically stops about halfway and exports the movie there, this means theres no sound aswell (i've exported audio only and it does the entire movie fine). Is this some kind of problem with running out of memory or something? It gets to about halfway on the progress bar then bam! my video appears, rendered... but its only about half of it. (when I'm doing this i'm exporting at third res and draft settings)
Really urgently need to find a solution to this.
The videos used were all .mxf files, but I used a plugin for quicktime to export them all to .movs, they play in the timeline fine.

Noticed that "video and audio" is greyed out if i select the videos with the audio turned on and try to render just that selection http://imgur.com/ikAe8
Also noticed this strange line in the timeline before the group - any idea what this is?
    http://imgur.com/FWS98
The audio is all switched to "on" aswell, some cut away elements are above them in the timeline with audio off.. could this cause trouble? http://imgur.com/BgdGR
I have an .mp3 of the audio as if i select the entire project and export audio only its fine, but this region... it'll only let me do video only. I can solve this by exporting them both and then merging in fcp but my main issue is its still freezing and exporting prematurely before the end of the render

  • Motion freezes machine solid!

I'm working on a series of longer-than-ideal web videos (from 1 minute to 14 minutes) which are 560 x 208. But at random points - especially about half an hour into exporting, the machine locks up - no mouse movement, nothing! I have to hold the button to restart.
The videos are green-screen presenter over photos and moving text. Because it's a non-standard size it was hard to build these projects in FCP (no preview at all). I'm using dvMatte Blast for the keying, static images in the background (optimized more or less to the correct pixel dimensions for the project), and a light bit of text animation.
The crash log show nothing. Any ideas?

My suspicion is memory - you might run /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor to check on your memory usage.
Motion 1.0 was very bad with this. My workaround at the time was to put the project into FCP and render sections of it (mark in/mark out/select section/render selection) and save after each render. That way if I crashed, I didn't have to start from scratch...

  • What settings make Motion freeze or stall?

I'm using Mark Spencer's Ripple Dive Deep training but cannot finish because the projects use high res images. I make modifications and play the comp. After the playhead moves a few second I get a warning about the images being too high resolution and it just freezes...the whole application. This couples with my Ozone woes and I've taken it to Mac Pro's and reinstalled with Pacifist. Also, I can't seem to make 3.0.2 work under any circumstances. Are there settings that can keep me from getting this high resolution error? I know I can change the resolution type to fixed but haven't done that yet. Any help would be awesome. I'm dying here.

I had a Mac Pro do an archived reinstall of Leopard and I reinstalled FCP2 but I didn't trash the previous install, I just did a straight reinstall, contents and all. I may end up calling Pro Apps support on this one. Thanks all.

  • Motion 2 freezing my system momentarily?!

Why does Motion freeze my system just for minutes at a time? No rainbow wheel just freezes all activity except the mouse movement. I know its Motion cause it only happens when its open. FRUSTRATING!
    QUADCORE 2.5 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I know its Motion cause it only happens when its open. FRUSTRATING!< </div>
It's almost impossible to guess from where we're sitting.
If you're NOT getting a spinning cursor try opening Activity Monitor and see if you can get a feeling for anything that might be happening on the system. Try searching the forum for "slow down" or similar terms, we've had many threads over the months and they are all different. However, most are from folks who have a rainbow cursor.
Additional questions, did Motion ever work well? Did you install all of the resource data files?

  • Motion 5 freezes macbook using oscillate

My Macbook Pro Retina (2.7 Ghz i7, 16 Gb) freezes completely using Motion. It is difficult to reproduce but it happened several times when using the Oscillate Parameter behavior on the Growth/Shrink Behavior.  A restart is required. Any advice ?
    Kind regards.

I am a little confused on your statement about using the Oscillate behavior on the Growth/Shrink behavior. Since one can not apply a behavior to a behavior I assume you mean Motion freezes when using either behavior? I do not see that problem when I try either or both behaviors on an object. What are you applying the behaviors to? Perhaps you might delete Motion preferences or try a different object to see if that helps.

  • How to create this video effect in my videos?

Hi all, new here, just got Premiere Elements 7 a week back, and must say i'm impressed...
I came across a video effect in a song found here (found from 0:53 till 1:30) where the screen goes completely white for a fraction of a second in a smooth manner and the picture returns again after that.
In fact i also want the effect of the fast forwarding of the video (audio remains the same) for a few seconds, which can also be found in the same clip in the same duration as i stated earlier... But till now i haven't been so successful at applying these...
Can you please help me out? Thanks!

For the "flash to white" you might take Paul's suggestion and invert it, i.e. placing the white matte on the Video Track (VT) above your footage, and Keyframing its Opacity. Personally, I'd look at doing this with Keyframing of Levels and cutting in a few frames of the white matte. Not sure about PE's Levels Effect (might look into some of the other "brightness" Effects too), but I'd be doing this in PrPro, which has a few more similar Effects.
One tip on the "fast-forward:" this was likely shot that way, with the camera mounted on a sturdy tripod and the a momentary switch used on the camera to do "stop motion" as the actors moved in the scene. If you do the Time Remapping, make sure to shoot on a tripod, so that the background does not change positions, only the actors to keep it looking clean. It also appeared to me that the videographer shot a few frames without the talent in the scene and these were either created in camera, or were inserted. I might have imagined this, but its use could be effective also. To keep the Audio at the exact pitch and speed, when Time Remapping, you'll want to use a soundtrack, and not rely on the Audio from the camera. You can do some work with the camera Audio to try and maintain pitch, but it can be a lot of work. Even for ambient sounds, i.e. the background sounds of the field, or forrest, I'd keep it, plus the soundtrack, separate from the Video stream.
An older Sci-Fi parody, "Ice Bandits" used a bit of stop motion freeze-framing and also under-cranking of the camera, for both Audio & Video, to create a humorous take on this Effect. If you can get a copy of that (might be on DVD?), look at the battle-scenes near the end. Heavy makeup changes were also incorporated to simulate "aging" when the action was sped up. The Time Remapped Audio contributed to the humor aspect, as the voices took on a "chipmunk-like" sound, and even the SFX were sped up too.
I don't see much real stop motion anymore in video, as much can be done in post. Back in the cine days, it was used for all sorts of effects. Jack Boseburg did a three-film trilogy, called "Trolley," that incorporated a lot of real stop-motion camera work. In his film, he controlled the camera with an intervelometer.  I doubt that you could find a copy of this, however, as it was never commercially released.
    Good luck,

  • Scary Message Every Import  from my Sony PMW 320 XDCAM EX  Clip Files w/ Completed Time LIne

    Hello
This is the 3rd question I've posted working my way through my first edit (and HD edit) with Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have a completed time line with the basic edit for an important event, my first for a client I hope to work for again.  Am now working on the title sequence at the beginning and also a "recap" with music and highlights at the very end.  Then I will be trying my first burn to a bluray -R disk on the LG 12x internal BRD unit in a high performance Mac Pro I had built at OWC.  10.7.5 Lion currently.
    3 types of files:
    1.  1080i 29.97 upper frame first, standard 1080i settings......from my B camera footage from a Sony NEX 5N.  28mbps I believe.  Example clip:  00018.MTS.  No issues or messages on the imports into the Project window.
    2.  Backup files same settings but 50mbps from Nanoflash recorder attached to my PMW 320 camcorder through the HD SDI output.  Example clip:  01253001.MTX.
Both of these above I just dragged their entire folders onto my internal master 2 disc Raid 0.  And then imported just the "clips" from each into the project window in each's own bin or folder.
    3.  Same scenario with my main files copying them from the large camcorder.  Example clip:  159_0221_01.MP4.  35mbps.  All 3 of these types of files have 29.97 fps indicated to the right.
But in the Project window when I selected initially all the clips from the drop downs inside the folder from the PMW 320 on the Master drive, and since then just some individual clips.....I keep getting this::  A window with "File Import Failure" in the top header and 5 lines of all the Volume codings within that Folder in the message box, and below it, "Error Message"  "File format not supported"  with an active "OK" button.  Which I have clicked and then gone ahead and worked with them.
But the clips in question are all in the project window and load fine into the Program Window or drag fine directly to the time line.  I have completed the whole sequence save for what I mentioned above.  Color correction, audio adjustments, slo motion, freeze frames, transitions, everything.  I have even taken a short piece of the time line and done experimental exports to self contained "Animation" codec clip,  H.264 clip and an MPEG 4 clip.  All were successful.  Last step coming soon will be export to 1080i 29.97 bluray.
I believe I have seen "MPEG 4" in the codec info on the PMW 320's clips.  Being that Premiere is supposed to handle every codec no problem, and that it seems to have done just that, what is going on here with these messages??  I have a ton of hours into this 1st edit and it all seems to work.  Do I not need to worry about this message even if I don't understand why I am getting it?
    Thanks much
    Ron

All that shows is the clips themselves, but yes I guess that could be happening.  So in the future from the PMW 320 import them 1st into Media Browser and then to the Project window?  (before taking them to Source window or directly to the time line)  Or just leave them in the Media Browser, and work it from there?
In the meantime, the fact it has all worked and seems to be working, would you think I'm OK since I've been able to do up to a massive 156gb Animation codec 16 minute portion of the sequence while I was first experimenting?   I am likely going to try the Dynamic Link function and Auto settings into Encore, straight from my time line of around 90 minutes.  Per the suggestion of Ann here in one of my other threads asking about that part.  Just to see if I can mail it on time on Tuesday if it looks good.

  • Final Cut Pro rendering incorrectly

Is anyone having problems with Final Cut Pro rendering stills incorrectly? I am running FCP 6.01 on a dual 3 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 8 GB of RAM.
I am encountering shots that have freeze frames of images that are found in the timeline at earlier intervals. I have also encountered timelines that appear to be rendered correctly but during layoff some graphics appear where others should. At the moment I am using the 8-bit Uncompressed codec in SD. I seem to get more errors when using the ProRes codec.

From my experience, renders get corrupted very often in FCP 6.0.1
In a 1080p 23.98 project, the most frequent problems I had with renders was:
    - titles (with Boris 3D) rendered but not appearing on playback
    - slow motions freezing
It's very strange because before to output, everything's fine. But then FCP "renders video" after asking it to do a assemble, and the output is not correct. I think it's in this time of additional render that the effects get corrupted.

  • Nanosaur 2 on a MBP Core2Due

I have just bought Nanosaur 2 (universal) to play with 3D glasses (the ones built for Nanosaur 2).
    I have two problems:
1- the motion is not fluid: the fps are always over 30-40, but every roughly 2 seconds the motion freezes for an instant. I am a bit disappointed about this because I have a good graphic card (ATI x1600 w/256MB).
This happens while I am playing at 1680x1050, 16-bit and "good quality" with the use of anaglyph glasses turned on in color mode. (the best settings are if I will choose 32-bit and "best quality").
Is this a problem about the optimization od Nanosaur 3D? Have I to tweaK it?
2- The game is really nice with the use of anaglyph glasses in B&W mode. But in color mode I couldn't reach a good calibration and therefore the 3d image is not clear. Somebody have some hints about this?

  • Make freeze frame without blur on motion

I want to make freeze frame on video but the problem is sign language signing make blur motion. I need to get sharp clear make freeze frame. Is there a way that can make sharp to make it freeze frame.
    video clip is 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Make freeze frame is for book so need to make motion clear? How?

Then there's not much you can do now.  It would have helped a little if you'd have used a high shutter speed on the video camera, but that's water under the bridge.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to find another frame where the hand wasn't moving then export both frames as s till image.  Open both in Photoshop and make a selection of the hand then copy that to the first still.
