Motion Guild Help

I know how to create a motion guide path for a movie clip to
move along, but I'm lost. :/
I would like to know how a could make the object(s) front
face the way its going.
That way you could do something, oh, i don't know, a driving
car.
P.s( I'm using Flash 8

I don't know how much you know about motion paths, so I'll
suggest you go to Flash help (F1 in Flash) and search for "Tween
Motion along a path". After reading that, post a more specific
question.
Once you create a motion guide and the motion tween, you will
see a checkbox in the Properties Window at the bottom left that
says "Orient to path". When you click this box, your object will
follow the path and always point 'nose first' as it moves along.
Hope this helps.

  • Motion Blur help.

Alrighty, I'm using Photoshop CS4 Extended, and I'm having troubles with motion blur.
When I set the angle to anything above 60 really and distance to about 300 it crashes saying Adobe Photoshop CS4 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
This happens every time. So I tried restarting Photoshop, then restarting my computer, then I uninstalled and reinstalled fresh and it still crashes when I begin to use motion blur, infact I believe it even crashed just by opening the motion blur window for over 40 seconds.
    Any help or ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot Mylenium! I'll do that in a few minutes, by the way heres an update with some more information.
Photoshop crashes when I change the angle to 49 or higher, anything lower is fine.
I went to my event viewer and I found this:
Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 11.0.0.0, faulting module mmxcore.8bx, version 11.0.0.0, fault address 0x0000d62a.

  • Behaviors and Motion Tracking help

I just started using Motion today and am having some problems. I am trying to add an angel like halo effect over a head and am having trouble. I imported the clip I want to add the halo to into Motion via the Final Cut timeline. After it opens the clip in Motion I try to use "add behaviors" but it wont work when I click it.. I have the clip selected. I imported the clip into Motion but it's not letting me use behaviors for tracking.. It's also not letting me bring up certain windows like the Inspector. It will only show me the layers/media/audio and timeline windows. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I have no idea why it posted my question three times... I only clicked once.

  • Stop motion animation help using images from a digital camera...how tricky is this?

I'm teaching a media arts course for the first time, and I'm trying to figure out how to use images taken with a digital camera, import them to Premiere Elements 7, and put them in the timeline without having to shorten the length of them.  As soon as I drag an image from the project bin onto the timeline, it automatically plays for 5 seconds, and I have to try to shorten it to one frame length.  If that's what it takes, this process is going to take a lot of time, because the students are going to be taking several hundred photos.  If I edit them in the preview, it's still just as difficult.  Is there any way to change the settings before I import the images so that they automatically are one or two frames in length on my timeline?  Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve points out, setting the Edit>Preferences>Still Duration BEFORE Importing, will get what you want.
When doing Stop-Motion, I find that a Duration = 3 to 5 Frames, works best, but that will depend on the images, how far apart, they were shot, and the exact effect that I want. It might take a little experimenting, to get things correct to both your eye, and to the images from the camera.
Also, Scaling the Still Images, prior to Import is a very, very good idea, and especially so, with Stop-Motion, as you will have lots of them.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - if you are using Transitions, between the Still Images, you will want to alter the Duration of those too, prior to applying them.

  • REALLY fast stop motion..HELP!

So I am trying to make a stop motion using imovie 09 and it wont let me make the clips shorter then .1 seconds...does anybody know how I can make them shorter? I am trying to make this REALLY fast...Help!! This is for a major film project I am working on. All help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

that's right. for smooth stop-motion, you need 1 frame per second.
you need tools as QuicktimePro vers7, which allows to convert a folder of pics into a smooth stream of video, or designated stop-motion tools as framebyframe (free) or iStopMotion ($$, therefor much more elaborated&convenient).

  • Motion 3  - motion tracking help

I am rather new to Apple Motion, so I apologize in advance for any novice comments or inquiries. That being said, I have extensive experience with video shooting/editing/graphics withing the Adobe family products. In this instance however, I am required to use Apple Motion.
My question is simple (I hope). I have a short video that has been motion tracked - selected a definable area on the motion and created keys frames to track the motion. I have then overlayed a graphic of a "dot" to highlight the motion of the initial video. The dot is subsequently matching the motion perfectly and is in sync with the underlying video. My question is this:
How do I add a "tail" effect to the dot - similar to a lens blur - so that the motion of the dot is highlighted a bit more. The concept is the same as having a "tail" on your computer mouse. I thought this would be easy.
More preferably - i would like to attach a paint stroke, as a light trail to the initial motion tracking (instead of the dot + tail). Apple's light trails are much more aesthetically pleasing and look better than the animated dot mentioned above.
In any case, I'm sure the above task is easily accomplished for an experienced Motion user, but alas I am struggling. Thanks in advance for your answers!!!

There is a trail effect in the filters, but I'm not a fan of it. Do do a light streak type of effect, I'd probably utilize the particle emitter.
Create an emitter from your dot (E), and set the speed of your emitter to 0. Match move the emitter to your tracked footage. Use the color over life parameters and birth rate to tweak the emitter and create your "light streak".
Specialcase has a wonderful tutorial that covers exactly what you're trying to do. Here it is:

  • Motion 5 help, motion 5 help, motion 5 help

hello i have a question i am new to forum posting anyways i have motion 5 on my macbook pro and i need a atomstrand.hd from motion 4 is there away to get motion 4 or do i have to download atomstrand.hdas a add on if that makes any sense please help.

On your system drive, open Library > Application Support > Final Cut Studio > Motion > Templates > 3D Text Projects. You'll find Atom Strand.HD.motn in there. Right click on the file and Open With > Motion 5.0.x (makes sure you'll open in M5 and not your previous version - although M5 should be the default.)
When Motion 5 opens the project, it will ask you to Open Original or Open as "Untitled".  Open as Untitled and save the project elsewhere. It will open as a "regular" Motion project. You can convert it to an FCPX Generator with File > Publish Template.  When the save dialog opens, make absolutely sure that you select the bottom checkbox: Publish as Final Cut Generator. It will take a minute to process, and then you will have all of the FCPX Categories to choose from (or you can create a new custom Category, which I recommend - call it something like Legacy Motion Templates.)

  • Motion 5 Help

Hi guys, great, I've been itching to ask a question on the apple discussion boards, finally got a chance...
Recently, I got very interested in video and animation editing/creating, and got to play around with FCPX and Motion 5, which were absolutely breathtaking considering I've never used Apple professional applications before. Previously I was just stuck with using iMovie/iPhoto/Garageband all the time, which were also good, but they got a little bit too repetitive at times, and videos I create weren't so special after a while.
I came across this template, http://www.motionvfx.com/store,project_738,p1274.html, and was wondering how the maker created the lines, the scales and the building thing around 0:05. Those meters like in 0:03, where the huge circles were generated from the top of the building thingy... Anyway, I'm sort of a beginner with Motion 5, as most of you may already guessed, I've started using FCPX for quite some time and I believe I'm getting the hang of it.
    Need some help, thanks

  • Motion tracking help

Hi all, hope everyone had a great Xmas.
I am having an issue with motion tracking and I will try my best to explain my problem as clearly as I can
Here is what I am trying to achieve.
Please visit this youtube video  Canon Powershot SX30 IS -140X Moon Zoom Test - YouTube
and this is a still shot I just quickly edited in fireworks to show you the effect I am trying to achieve
    http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/3148/motion.png
As you can see in the video, some parts of the moon go out of screen in some shots and the camera also zooms in and out of the moon, so I need the word "Business" and "logo" to increase and decrease in size in proportion with the moons size ( camera zooming in and out ) whilst remaining at the exact point on the moon ( as if the word "business" was built on the surface of the moon )
Which tutorial might help me? or if someone would be kind enough to explain how to do this, it would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

Don't even bother to work with that video.  Reshoot it.  Next time, use a tripod and make sure the shot is consistently exposed, which at the moment, it is not.  You apparently haven't even considered the problems trying to match your AE work with the camera auto iris.
And since he put it so well, I'd also like to quote Bogesian from a different thread, responding to someone who also knew little of AE, and wanted to learn what he or she thought would be a simple trick:
"After Effects is a kitchen. It's not a cookbook. And there is much more to using this metaphor than putting a frozen entrée  into the microwave.
You have everything you need, it's just not given to you as a recipe for that specific effect.
The AE help system and the many tutorials that came with After Effects will show you how to animate text.
You will need to learn how to use motion tracking in the same way.
You may need to learn how to use the planar tracking system, Mocha, which is not for the faint of heart.
Like learning to make soufflé, you need the basic tools, fresh ideas, high quality ingredients and sufficient fundamental experience with all of the toolsm, techniques and ingredients. You will fail many times. Once you've discovered certain truths and universal, reliably repeatable steps, anything is possible within the kitchen.
Suggest you invest in ayof the many AE books by Trish and Chris Meyer or visit their website for several hours before you attempt to use the more advanced resources you can easily find online."

  • Motion Clip help

Okay, I have my motion Clip done with an actions layer and
the code in the actions layer. I have my MC instance named jiggle.
When I test the MC it moves like I want it to and the rollover with
the hand works to. BUT , what doesn't work is, The MC goes without
me clicking on it to go. PLEASE HELP!
My code is below, what am I doing wrong?
    jiggle.onRollOver = function() {
    jiggle.gotoAndPlay(2); //assuming stop(); is on frame 1
    jiggle.onRollOut = function() {
    jiggle.stop(); //or my_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
    jiggle.onRelease = function() {
    getURL("seeOurOffice.htm");

Well it's a 5 second clip which I exported from FCP and made self contained. and it's HDV, so it's not very large.
I actually just started sending the clips to motion from fcp and it works but I'm wondering if when I do optical flow in motion does it analyze the entire clip that it came from or is the FCP - Motion function smart enough to only send that clip?

  • Motion trail help

    Hi all,
as a newbie to Motion, I decided to start out with simple animations. However I ran into this animation:
    http://images.templatemonster.com/screenshots/12800/12820.swf
I really like the motion trail like effects in the movie. Anybody has any idea how this could achieved in Motion? I suppose I should start up with an emitter, but I am not sure. Could somebody help me out a bit on this??
    THX,
    Vision.

    Heya,
You don't need the lights. You can achieve the same result as the tutorial, just draw the shapes as he did with the AE solids, create the emitter, etc, and you're good to go.
You can also do this using the replicator: create the starting shapes, draw a path for the replicator to follow, increase the number of points, make them additive, and there you have it. Basically, a blend between the additive method of the Flow tutorial and the replicator line-drawing trick.
Again, doing this will get you what you see in the AE tutorial, but the actual spot has more detailed textures and the trail exists in 3D space. The process is reasonably straightforward: do a 3D track of the iPods to generate a path, then loft a surface along that path and texture it. The real nitty-gritty is doing the comping so that the path properly falls in-front-of and behind the dancers. As usual, I'm sure there was a lot more elbow-grease involved than is readily apparent.

  • Motion 3 Help !!

I need your help with an upgrade decision. I upgraded last fall and currently to Finalk Cut Studio Pro. I cannot find my discs(due to a very nosy kid of mine) or the installation icon in the applications folder for motion 3 . I am uncertain whether or not I have motion 3. I do have FC 5.14, DVD Studio Pro 4, Compressor 3, Sountrack Pro 2, which all came with the upgrade package. Based on that information:
1: would you say that Motion 3 came with that package or was it just Motion?
2: If not when was motion 3 released and with what FC Package?
3: Can I get FC upgrade from 5.14v to 6 via Apple update of do I need to spend $499.00?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Motion 3 ships with Final Cut Studio 2.
    2. You need to send the $499.00 to upgrade.

  • I'm getting this choppy effect with motion, please help!

    Hi all.
I'm animating photos with white borders in AE, like polaroids. It's basically a camera slow panning and tracking around them.
Each time the camera gets closer, and pans appear to be faster, I get this choppy look caused by the sharp white borders.
    I have tried
    - Subtle Gaussian Blue
    - Enabling Motion Blur
and while they help a little, the effect is still there. Is there another technique? Someone suggested to take into PPro and apply the anti flicker effect.
    Please help. Deadline today.

There are things like critical panning speeds that you must be aware of. The lower the frame rate the bigger the problem. The FAQ section of this forum has a link to two articles that may help. One is for horizontal motion the other is for vertical. FAQ: Why does horizontal motion stutter (judder) in my movies, such as during pans?
There is a lot of good information about all kinds of problems in the FAQ section. You'll find a link on the form homepage. After Effects FAQ List
You could also be experiencing skipped frames during playback. The answer to that problem is also in the FAQ: FAQ: Why is my output file huge, and why doesn't it play back smoothly in a media player?

  • Stop-motion problem HELP

I've been uploading pictures onto my computer and putting them onto final cut express HD to play them as a stop motion animation. The first 11 images that I uploaded and put onto final cut played well, I set the duration to play each image for one hundredth of a second each. I then took 29 more pictures and uploaded them onto final cut express, but for some reason the shortest duration that I can set these pictures to play for is five hundredths of a second. Please help!

Video isn't measured in hundredths of second. It is measured in frames per second (fps).
The notation "0:00:00;01" doesn't indicate one hundredth of sec. That is SMPTE timecode and indicates the duration is 1 frame. (Hours:Minutes:Seconds;Frames) If you are working in NTSC video, which runs at 29.97 fps, 1 frame =1/30th of sec.
Set your default still image length to 1 frame, then re-import the images. They will come in with that setting.
    good luck,
    x
