Motion ignores filters on export

I have a Motion 2 project with three background video layers which crossfade into each other, and various animated text elements that appear on the top layers. The video files were created in a 3D app, and when viewed in FCP/Motion they seemed to need a gamma adjustment (too light/washed out). I used levels filters on each of the video layers, and they look fine when playing in Motion.
However, when exporting the sequence to Compressor (mp2 2-pass 5MbVBR for use in DVDSP), everything looks great except the video tracks are back to looking washed out.
Why is Motion/Compressor ignoring my levels adjustments?
Do the tracks need to be rendered in FCP before importing into Motion? That seems to defeat the purpose of having the filters in the first place (in case they need to be tweaked while working - or after previewing on DVD)
Any ideas?

I think I should clarify further:
The project is being exported thru Compressor directly from within Motion - not FCP. The only reason I mentioned FCP was because I had first noticed the incorrect gamma issue there. Soon after, I decided that these clips would be used as a DVD menu backdrop and thought it would be easier to do the whole 30 second composite in Motion. So I recreated the cross fades (using fade-in/fade-out behavior) and levels correction (filters) within Motion before adding the other elements.
I mentioned rendering the tracks in FCP (with a gamma correction) as an alternative solution because I haven't (yet) found a way to "flatten" the layers in Motion before exporting thru Compressor. But even so, that's hardly an elegant solution.
I find it curious that the filters I have applied to text layers (in the same animation) showed up in my .mp2, but the levels adjustments were somehow lost in transit...

how can slow-motion iphone6 video be exported to imovie on an iMac and retain its slow motion effect ?

thx, i can't see where you do that (access the function to slow the motion of a clip).  in the help file it says to 'right click' on the clip to access those functions but when i do i get these optios below (no motion, pan, zoom, pan and zoom).  i want access the speed/duration sliders.
i would say the function isn't available at all, but i could be looking in the wrong place (although i have tried everything).
    thx for your reply.

  • Motion Crashes with all exports

    Greetings...
I need some serious help! I'm very frustrated because every time I try to export an animation, Motion crashes with no explanation.
My animation is simple: 30sec, standard 4:3; exporting as uncompressed 8bit with alpha channel. All other settings set to best with motion blur on.
Please help if anyone knows a simple patch.
    Cheers!

Hi after several headaches, reinstalls of FCP, etc, i realized that Motion was crashing (in my case), because of 2 specific reasons (Leopard 10.5.2 with FCP with latest updates):
    1. Using big or complex vector art (ais), have made crash motion (rendering too), if i set the quality to "best".
Solution: always keep the Quality in the views and render in normal mode.
    2. Motion repeatedly crashed, sometimes at the start up, calling for an error in the Ozone or Lithium plugin (almost got crazy for this in a deadline).
Solution: Deactivate the previews in "timeline" and specially "layers" panel, (timeline is deactivated in preferences/appearance/timebar display set to "name", and in layers there is a little arrow in the upper right corner of the panel just uncheck "preview".)
This after several days of trial an error, after this 2 changes i went from almost every minute crashes (including render), to 1 crash at day.
I hope this work for someone else too.

  • EXIF data filtered when exporting to Flickr

I've noticed that some EXIF data seems to be filtered out when exporting photos to Flickr via Aperture's built-in Flick exporter.
For example, if I export same photo using Flickr's upload page, then using Aperture's built-in Flickr exporter, then re-download original back to my computer, the fields like "lens size" are missing from the copy exported by Aperture.
There's few other fields that are silently filtered out by Aperture. Looking at the differences between two copies of the same photo re-downloaded back from Flickr, examples include fields such as digital zoom, subject distance, focus mode, macro mode, firmware version, serial number, owner name (and the list goes on)...
While one could argue that some fields contain personal information, there's my real name on my Flickr account, so having serial number or owner name in EXIF data removed is kind of pointless for my use case. Also, there's tons of photos I exported in the past to various photo sharing sites containing these headers anyhow.
I'd really like to preserve some interesting and useful (technical) fields such as lens size or subject distance. Is there a way to tell Aperture "I don't care, the world already knows this stuff, don't filter EXIF info when exporting"?

    Hi Raja,
Not sure, what version are you in, but must not be in latest.
You have to write a e-text to get csv/txt of the desired format.
By default, if you are not in latest version, you will see some data when you select csv without E-text template

  • Filters and Export to Excel (BI 7 report in portal)

    Hi all
We are seeing some interesting behaviour with the data being exported to excel.
The steps to create the problem are -
    - run report
    - filter to limit the data,
    - "export to excel"
When checking data in excel - the full set of data (that is, prior to the filter being applied) has been transfered.
Could someone please confirm the following -
    1. is this expected behaviour ?
    2. are there any configuration items that need to be done to export only the filtered data as seen on the current report on the screen ?
    3. any other suggestions ?!
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Kindest regards
    Karen

with your product version there are little options you have.
    1. Upgrade to the latest SP and patch on XIR2 (SP6, fp6.4) and re-test
    2. Upgrade to current product release.
    3. figure out what has changed and how in the report and reverse those changes.

  • Limited Photoshop Filters When Exporting From LR

I've found that I can't use the Liquify tool or many other Filters with files exported from Lightroom into Photoshop CS. I was wondering if anyone knew why I'm having this problem. I would really like to use all the Photoshop filters to finish editing my image from Lightroom.

    Hi,
most of the things in CS2 are only available in 8-bit colormanagement while LR uses normally 16-bit colormanagement. Change your mode in CS2 back to 8 bit and you should have all the options again..

  • Missing filters after exporting from lightroom

I am currently moving my photo editing from a 32-bit WinXP machine to a 64-bit Win7 machine.  For the time being, both computers have CS4 Design Premium and Lightroom 2.5 installed.  All apps on both machines are currently up-to-date.
The issue, and this ONLY occurs on the 64-bit Win7 machine, is that all of my third party filters disappear when I bring a file from Lightroom into Photoshop.  They aren't greyed-out.  They are not listed. Period.
I've tossed out the PS preferences and made sure that both the 64-bit ver. of PS and the regular ver. of PS both point to the correct extra plugins folder.
It has nothing to do with images coming out of Lightroom in @ 16bit because they are exported that way on the XP machine as well.  Filters that can't be run on 16-bit images just appear as greyed-out.
I can open an image directly in Photoshop and all of the filters are there.  If I export the same image (and it doesn't matter whether I choose "edit in Photoshop" or "Open as a smart object");  if it's coming from Lightroom the filters are gone.
Does anybody have any ideas why this would occur and, more importantly, how to fix it because this is really crippling productivity.
    Thank you.
    M. Green

I'm not sure what you mean - did you mean save an image to 32-bit?
I don't have a way (that I know of) to control which PS exe. Lightroom sends to image to when I choose to edit in PS.  I'm assuming it's going to the 64-bit app.  But in any case, I don't think it should matter.  I opened both PS exe's and made sure that both pointed to the same plugins folder.
I posted here because it seemed like a PS issue and I don't know what the policy is around here about cross-posting the same issue to different forums.

  • From After Effects to Motion plug-in or export

How do I contact Motion Apple engineers, I want to pay to have a plug-in developed that will save, or export After Effects projects as Motion projects.
    Trace Burroughs
    LMENSTUDIO(at)aol.com

There are several plug-ins and scripts that export After Effects data in forms that can be used by other applications. Pretty much every aspect of a project is exposed through the scripting interface (with a few minor exceptions).
If you want to create a script or plug-in to do so, you can get the information from the documents on the After Effects Developer Center:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/aftereffects.html
There are links to forums for scripting and plug-in development on that page.
If you don't want to write your own, check out the forum AE Enhancers:

A lot of great script writers and plug-in developers hang out there.

  • Import layered ai files into motion and problem  when export to psd

has anyone found a way to import  rapidly ai files layered into motion?
I tryed to export from ai a psd file in layers but i am allowed to do it only in cmyk, and result is weird, all color changed. any help please?

Converting vector layer to shape when the vector layer contains a gradient is not supported. Gradients will come in as a gray fill. If you have more than one fill on a layer you will get both fills but you will loose the blend modes or any opacity masks on the fill. Basically you're stuck with solid color fills and solid color paths when you use Shape to Vector Layer.
Also, each illustrator path you want to turn into a shape must be on a separate layer. Multiple shapes on in the same layer will come in as a shape layer but the paths and fills will not be correct. AE will do it's best to figure out what you want but the chances for multiple paths filled with different colors in the same layer to be converted correctly is remote.
You can, however, add and modify as many gradient fills as you like to a shape layer in AE.

  • Motion 5 won't export, keeps seizing on a random frame

There isn't much extra to explain, I was trying to stabalize some video, and everytime that I tried to export it would randomly die on me.
Does anyone know why? The only extra thing that I can think of that might be important is the size of the clip (it was a 20:00 1080p clip shot from a Nikon DSLR) but the frames it continued to die on were in the first minute; once only 20 seconds in and before the first spot that I was trying to stabalize.

  • Motion Lines on Quicktime Export

When exporting my sequence to a quicktime file, I get horizontal digital lines on motion within the footage. When viewing it from Final cut it looks fine (both on computer and on the external monitor) but when I create a Quicktime File (both using the Export to Quicktime and Export using Quicktime Conversion option) this happens.
On a page wipe, for example, I see the image moving frame by frame in Final Cut, but if I look at it frame by frame on the quicktime file, I see the lines scrubbing across.
I tried exporting using all kinds of different settings.
Does anyone know what causes this and what I can do to fix it???

Use google and explore for several hours the topic of interlaced video. It's a truly complex issue and neither of you have provided enough information for us to do much more than ask you to learn more about video basics so you can post a question we can answer directly.
Know ahead of time that acquisition formats can be interlaced or progressive. Your editing format can be either. Your release format can be either. And the display or video monitor upon which you are viewing any of the above can be either interlaced or progressive. And sometimes it doesn't matter one way or the other because interlacing is actually a good thing, most of the time, because it smooths out horizontal movement relative to temporal motion.

  • Motion 4.0.3 - export problem - wrong compressor selected

    Greetings all,
Have just run into a puzzling glitch when trying to export a movie direct from Motion.
When I click the Options button in the Export dialogue box, the  compressor that is set in the Compressor dropdown of the Video section (under the Video/Audio tab) does not match the preset I selected in the Export box.
If I select the correct compressor in the dropdown, then click OK, the Export dialogue box now tells me I'm using a different compressor. If I then click Options again, the correct compressor is shown in the dropdown, but if I click Advanced, The compression type is now wrong! If I set the correct compression type in the Advanced (compression settings) box, then click OK, the Compressor reverts to the incorrect one again!
I appreciate this might sound very confusing, so I'll spell out some specific examples:
Compressor selected in the Compressor dropdown of the Video section under the Video/Audio tab: Video
Compression Type being used under Advanced (compression settings): Apple ProRes 4444
    Compressor selected: Apple ProRes 4444
Compression Type used: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
    Compressor selected: Sorenson Video
    Compression Type used: H.264
    Compressor selected: H.264
Compression Type used: DVCPro HD 720p50
You get the picture. So, the Export Preset always matches the Compression Type used under Advanced but not the Compressor selected in Options.
This glitch has only just appeared in my setup, and I can't think of any obvious cause. I've tried trashing Prefs but no joy.
    Any ideas? Many thanks!

    Thanks Russ,
Probably best if I explain further with a couple of screen shots (I've blurred the background to highlight the issues).
In the first shot below, you can see  that the selected preset in the Export dialogue box is Apple ProRes 4444 Movie, and it lists this as the compressor in the text details just below. However when Options is clicked, it lists the compressor as 'Video'. Upon clicking Advanced, the Compression type is shown as correct, Apple ProRes 4444.
If I export the file under these conditions I do indeed get a ProRes 4444 file.
In the second shot, I have changed the Compressor in Export Options from Video to ProRes 4444 and you can see that the Compression type under Advanced has changed to ProRes 422 (HQ).
Upon hitting OK, you can see in the Export box that the selected preset now shows as 'customised' and the compressor listed underneath is ProRes 422 (HQ).
If I export the file under these conditions I get a ProRes 422 (HQ) file.

  • Custom Office 2007 Doc Service Errors: Too many, ignored; Filtering Failed

    Hi...
We are running SES 10.1.8.4 with the MS Office 2007 workaround outlined at: http://blogs.oracle.com/searchtech/
While indexing production files, a number of the following errors were logged (cleansed to hide actual paths, files names, servers, etc.):
ERROR crawler_5 1114 files inside zip file, Too many, ignored: /.../46629_bin
ERROR crawler_5 EQG-30123: Filtering failed for "http://someserver/somefile.docx&lang=en"; trace information:
1114 files inside zip file, Too many, ignored: /.../46629_bin
It appears like all these errors are for docx files. This could just be a coincidence. We have very limited access to the files themselves due to confidentiality.
In reading the README file for the MS Office 2007 document service, ZIP is one of the required document types for this workaround. Specifically,
the OfficeX files are XML packaged in zip format, so you must tell SES to index zip files
Is the custom MS Office 2007 document service not able to index certain docx files?
Are these files too large and/or complex for indexing?
    Any guidance is appreciated.
    Thanks!

More information. All the documents that throw this error are between 9.5 - 13.5 MB in size.

  • Motion Project Won't Export

So, one of my editors in a different town is having an issue that has me stumped... Hopefully someone can help.
He's trying to export a :30 project from motion. It's a commercial base as the bottom layer, and a bunch of text and CG over the top of the ad. Really simple.
When he gets in the export window, he's set at DV-NTSC, and then has the compressor set to Animation. When he goes to click on the export button, he just gets the 'beep' sound effect that he's doing something wrong.
When he uses the "Export Using Compressor" setting it works fine. When he drags the motion project over his FCP timeline, it works fine. It just won't export using the 'normal' way.
He's using a 2.GHz Intel IMac with 2 GB RAM -OS 10.4 and Motion 2 - updated two weeks ago with all the latest... He has about 350GB of space available where he's trying to save it, so that ain't the issue...
    Anybody got any ideas?

Take a look at this thread and see if the solution helps.
