Motion isn't smooth

i've a problem with the graphics on my macbook. the movement isn't smooth anymore when I scroll up and down. also the movement isn't move like usual. I've reset the PRAM and did repair disk permission but it doesn't work. do you know how to fix it? thx:)

Hi Patrick,
I have a dual 1.8 G5 with 3 GB RAM. A Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card with 256mb of RAM. (bought to try to reslove this problem but to no avail) Running version 2.0.1 of Motion. I also have a decklink pro for an external CRT video monitor.
The particular project (although it happens on most but they are all the same resolution & codec). I generally work using the DV PAL Codec, 720*576 anamorphic. This project was 10" long. I had composited 6 video clips into a third band running horizontally accorss the centre of the screen with reversed, flipped images below as reflections. It is to be the video content of a chapter heading. Each of the 6 clips is moving (tilting or panning). I tried exporting the sequence to Motion but the pans and tilts within the video clips become unuseably jerky.
In the end, I exported the video as a GT movie and used that as a guide only and switch off that layer on export leaving the video all within FCP which limits my flexibility on layers.
Thankfully, text movement in this project is smooth but that isn't always the case. It does seem to be a rythmic jerkiness. If something is moving accross the screen, it pause ever so slightly every few frames then continues.
I'm rambling now but I hope that may be enough?
Thanks for your help,
Regards
Richard

I have used still photos to make a Quick Time movie using FCE.  The DVD made using i-DVD looks somewhat grainy and the motion isn’t smooth when played on my TV.  Other DVD’s I have made play much better and I am wondering if the problem is my Quick Time movie settings.  The Dimensions and size of the problem movie are 1920X1080 and 584 MB respectively, while the movies that play better  have Dimensions of 853X480 and are about 1.3 GB in size.  Is this the source of my problem and how do I change things for the better.

Are you exporting to QuickTime Movie, or to QuickTime Conversion?   For iDVD, you need to export to QuickTime Movie.   Exporting to QT Conversion will kill the quality if you are moving the video from FCE to iDVD.
The file size per se makes no difference.
What size (pixel dimensions) are the photos that you put into your 1920x1080 sequence?  Also, exactly what are the sequence properties ... is it 1920x1080i60 ... or i50?  In North America it should be i60.
853X480 is an odd frame size.  Where are you seeing this number?  It would appear to be DV-NTSC, which has a frame size of 720x480.  Your 1920x1080 frame size would not be DV-NTSC, it would be Apple Intermediate Codec.   DV and AIC will look different, for sure.
Also, your quality setting in iDVD can affect the final video.  You may want to check that also (in iDVD Preferences > Projects).  Set it to Professional Quality if at all possible.

The first time I turned it on it didn't respond at all,can anyone tell how bad the damage really is without actually seeing it ? Do you think maybe it will be just a simple repair or am I looking at a whole new logic board?

Until you take it in so that a technician can look at it, it is all guessing and nothing more.

  • Inside of Stoke isn't smooth

Hi! please see the attached screenshot. The outside of the stroke curve is smooth, but the inside is really bumpy and rough, even though there are only three anchor points. It prints that way too; it's not just the monitor. Could someone tell me how to fix this please? It's driving me bonkers. Thanks!!

thanks for your reply- what other brush do you recommend? As I understand it, the brush I'm using isn't a calligraphic brush (despite the name) because both the angle and roundness are fixed.
    Thanks!

  • Video transition isn't smooth

The quicktime>zoom, video transition in FCP, is not smooth when used on image file. Is there any way to fix this.

Its ok. I have worked out a way around the problem.
    Thanks anyway

  • Motion isn't quick to respond/has delayed response to commands

I've just upgraded to a Mac Pro 8-core with 8GB RAM and NVIDIA 8800 graphics, and FCS 2.0.4. I don't use Motion too often (I'm an AE person), but I like doing titles in it. when I am looping the Timeline and try to click a menu or even just stop playback, it takes several (about 10-15) seconds for it to respond. It does this about half the time. I never had this problem in Motion 2 on a G5 Quad with 8GB RAM and NVIDIA 7800. I've search around a little and haven't found anything relating to this yet. Anybody have any ideas?

Motion 3 is just plain slower than M2, IMHO. Also, try turning off your thumbnail previews in the Layers tab and make sure you have your render quality set to Normal, not Best.
I can never repeat this problem when I want to! I have tried without the Layers window open, and render quality has been set to Normal. Motion 3 slower? If so, maybe that is affecting me.

Part of the "but why?" comes from the fact that Motion uses the graphics card to do all the work. If it's going to be sent to the Kona card as well, Motion needs to grab the material BACK out of the card to process it and send it out to the Kona...
If that's how it works--and I trust you know what you're talking about--I don't understand how it would work better in Motion 2 on a G5 Quad/7800GT/Kona setup, unless maybe:
    1. the Motion 2/G5 Quad/7800GT configuration is more powerful than the systems when Motion 2 was first released, and those performance problems would be a non-issue?
    2. Motion 3 performs worse on NVIDIA than ATI? I've read some posts supporting this, but now the 8800GT is officially on the list of supported graphics cards for Motion 3.
Thanks Mark and Patrick for your responses.

  • Render result isn't smooth

Hi, i have a problem when rendered and exported a mov file into avi using adobe premiere 1,5. The edge of this moving object(it's a footage of a person walking back and forth on a stage) kinda pixelated not smooth, especially the dress, what should i do with it? thanks in advance....

    Hi,
Sorry just replied, because i'm in the other side of the world, it was quite late in the night when i'm posting this question.
anyway, i'm usually use canopus preset. yes, i'm using canopus dv storm card.
i'm doing the outsource editing, it's shooted by another friend, they're using Sony PDW-530P, and shooted in 16:9 format.
so, they captured it by using final cut pro, usually they use final cut pro to edit too, but i don't have it so i'm just using adobe premiere, can it be the problem too? should i transferred to AVi files first? thanks for your assistance....

  • My text isn't smoothing correctly

    Hi,
I'm having a very odd problem. I'm building textbox
dynamically as i normally do, i'm importing a font to the library
and embedding the font to the textfield. However for some reason
when the text is White it doesn't antialias correctly. I'm using
white, pink and bronze text, when it's bronze or pink it is fine
but when it is white or even a colour close to white then it blurs
    and looks messy.
    Has anyone encountered this before?
here are my text box and format settings are attached.
Any ideas would be grealy appreciated. I'm using the font
    called Sabon incase you're interested.
    thanks

  • Motion Tracking Jitter Problem

Using CS3, I am basically trying to replace facial features on individuals in some footage that I have. (replacing mouths, eyes, etc) I have been through numerous tutorials on motion tracking and have it down pretty well. I am tracking motion for both position and rotation, and the motion trackers are pretty dead on. However, after I apply the motion tracking and attempt to to pick whip other layers to this (I have tried numerous ways, nulls, directly to the tracked footage layer, etc...) it is very jittery, it follows the motion trackers just fine, but is very jittery...
I have found a few other with this problem, but no solutions were found. The only solution that I found was a suggestion to Average the null with a long expression that I had no idea how it worked. It there a quick fix for this? My whole 3 minute video is relying on motion tracking and parenting layers to the original footage... PLEASE HELP
also, would Mocha be worth getting, would it solve this issue?

Here's a post that links to some resources for face replacement using motion tracking.
If your only problem is that the motion isn't smooth enough, and you want to remove some of the detail in the motion, you can use the Smoother or the smooth expression method.

  • Why iphone4 cdma very slow using ios7

Recently I just bought iphone4 cdma then upgrade the os become os7, the problem is everything become slower, the motion isn't smooth, games become very slow and not working smoothly. What should I do? Can I downgrade it become os6?

Apple, please do us all a favor
Who are you talking to? We are not Apple.  Apple doesn't read these posts.

  • How do you create a smooth slow motion

Attached are both the original clip, 2 second long, and 5 times slower clip of the original.
for some reason the slow motion is not smooth. is there a way to make it smooth?
    thanks
    arikw

If your camcorder can shoot 60p, import that clip, then right-click it and Modify > Interpret. The frame rate should show up as 59.94, go ahead and change that to 29.97 and then put the clip on the timeline. This should have the result of doubling the length of the clip and providing silky smooth 50% slow motion (without adding Speed Change, leave that at 100%).
Just picked up a new GoPro Hero 3 White, and it has 720p60 and I tried the above and it looks nice! The more expensive GoPros offer 720p120 and that should yield excellent 25% slow motion using the same methods. With the waterproof housing and wide angle lens, you could get right up close to that waterfall!
    Thanks

  • Problem importing Motion project into FCP (images 'wobbly' and 'jaggedy')

I'm at wit's end here. I did a short 10 second intro for a press reel in Motion that is pretty basic and looks good in Motion (it's just images from the show flying across the screen, with a cloud emitter as background). The problem is that when I import it into Final Cut Pro, the images get all jittery and wobbly. It looks as if they are going in and out of different interlacing stages, which makes no sense.
The images were taken from the theater's website, and I have have tried them both in JPG and PSD formats. They are all being scaled down from the original size a touch after I import them into Motion (would that be the problem? Didn't think to try that...). As I said, they look fine and clear in Motion, but when I export into a Quicktime movie or render it and play it back in Final Cut Pro, they get all jaggedy/wobbly (for lack of a better technical term). Stills exported from the Motion file look fantastic in Photoshop (and in Final Cut Pro when I use them as background) but a paused image in Final Cut Pro looks very jagged.
I've tried everything I can think of, and even upped all the render settings in the project, to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions?

Sure. I'm uploading two files. One at www.jonathanfrank.com/FCPTest.mov, contains two 10 second movies back to back. The first clip is the project I created from scratch, the second clip is a test I did using a Motion template that I was 'inspired' by. Both were exported from Motion w/Field set to 'none' and export settings set to 'animation' Both looked pretty good when the exported file was opened in Quicktime. I imported the files and rendered them in FCP (and noticed that Field got set to Low/Even along the way somehow) and then exported them into Quicktime via FCP.
I also am uploading the original file of my project that I exported from Motion to see the difference at www.jonathanfrank.com/poetintro1.mov
Due to the size, it's not as easy to see the 'jitter' It was really noticeable when I imported the Travel template sans photos (so you just saw the grey "replace here" images with the circles and grids). It looks passable in the movies, but when Printed to Video, played in FCP (or played in the full-sized format in Quicktime) it's a lot more obvious what I'm talking about.
Basically, the motion just isn't smooth. It's very jagged and jittery, and the definition is dreadful.
Thanks for all your help and interest, by the way. And hope this

  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 Benchmarks For Motion?

    Anyone have this upgrade yet?
    Thanks!
    Scot

Scot, I dunno if this is helpful. I have a BTO MAC PRO 2.93Ghz with 12GB ramm and the ATO Radeon 4870 card and one apple 30 inches ACD. (one display)
I had some trouble last week so after some wonderful help from Mark Spencer I was able to post some results comparing the same SET.motn running against the latest MACBOOKPRO Unibody 2.93 w/4GB ram and this MAC PRO as above.
I have some numbers and mins:secs timings in the cases for each machines (same conditions)
    the link is here. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9528634#9528634
Simply pleased with the new results with the ATI 4870 and motion is silky smooth on the timeline and renders are much improved as I was expecting initially.

  • FCS/Motion 3:Library makes trouble - always

    Hi,
I still work with Motion 3 and having trouble with the utility window. When I click on library or then switch between icon and list view the window freezes. Funnily enough I still can work with the other windows and panes. I know about deleting com.apple.motion.plist in the User/Library/Preferences. But I do this a couple of times each day which really is annoying and no solution.
    What might cause the problem?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Howdy,
If you're on your MacBook Air with Intel integrated graphics, then Motion isn't supported. That's probably related to the crashing.

  • Is my MacBook Pro (really) suitable for Motion?

This is just a general question, but my understanding of Motion was that it relies heavily on the memory of the graphics card. I have a MacBook Pro - the unibody right before they sealed the battery and added an SD card slot with 4 GB RAM.
Motion always seems to run slow after just a little work, and will lock up or slow down the entire machine. My MBP has 512 MB video memory just like my MacPro at work. Is it the RAM that's hurting me? I am not expecting MacPro performance, but the video RAM is the same.
Would appreciate if anyone could help make sense of this. I expected my MBP to run Motion much more smoothly (with mostly Apple ProRes and HDV for the time being)

Sounds like a problem with Excel, perhaps you have a Macro virus.
Download the free ClamXav and run a scan
    http://www.clamxav.com/
    Then uninstall and reinstall Office.
You can always use the free LibreOffice
