Motion Judder in MAC 10,1,85,3

Hello.
I was attempting to watch the LIVE F1 Grand Prix feed from the BBC and the player was jumping around like it was cooking popcorn
Audio was fine but the picture was unwatchable.
When I went back to the site the video ran for a little while (a replay not live) so I thought it was a problem on site.
after discussing it with people on site I find ..It is not.
Now, no video from them plays at all.Tried it on Safari same thing.
I made no changes or anything to my system..
Is there a place I can get the older v 10,1,53
I worked great
Info as follows
MacBook Pro OS 10.6.4
Firefox 3.6.11
website:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9116792.stm
Sorry I can't give you all the tech stuff like 32/64bit or whatever that is..I'm not a computer person
Thanks for any attention given
Jon

I find that in this exact configuration that Firefox simply crashes with that crash window. I have Disabled ALL extensions and plugins, Firefox works. Then I install ONLY Flash 10.1.85.3 and Firefox 3.6.12 crashes, running on Windows 7.

  • Uh-oh: the motion judder issue again

I recently produced a composition in AE CS5 which comprised still images traversing the screen as if a camera was constantly tracking left to right.  The comp was 25 fps PAL widescreen square pixels.
The judder - both in ram preview and rendered output caused my client to complain.  (This was on a 40' screen, but very noticeable on my comp monitor).  It was not a consistent jarring - as if it was wrong field order or an interlacing problem, nor is it caused by memory bottlenecks or disk speed.
This was the first comp I had produced on CS5, and do not recall judder as pronounced as this on CS4 or 7.
I have subsequently tried to rebuild the project using different formats, frame rates, output settings and tracking speeds, all to no avail.   Motion blur increases the problem.
I know that there has been some detailed and extremely valuable discussion about the probable causes of judder on this forum, but I can't seem to corrolate those issues with my own experience.
I have posted an 11 sec single image track at www.jontysexton.co.uk/motion/judder.wmv
I'd appreciate feedback from one of you AE gurus.  Thanks.

    Hi TimeRamapper.
When I say it's academic, what I mean is that it is often out of my control.  It depends whether I am producing a DVD for general distribution or creating a video piece for conference play-in.  If the latter, the production company will tell me what delivery means they want.  It may be laid off onto PAL DVcam , Quicktime or wmv.  Sometimes the DVcam is captured on a media server and played into the conferenceI from that.
I have been producing graphic-based conference openers since around 2000, and have not been aware of such pronounced juddering  - unless it's caused by interlace flicker or field reversal.  I've certainly never had a client complain before!
It's not just in the subsequent playback that it becomes apparent. It is visible in AE ram preview (and Premiere Pro if I create a motion path on a still photograph).  I have increased frame rate to 50 fps but that does not eliminate the problem - or reduce it sufficiently to be acceptable.
My drives are 7200 Raid 0 and the 12MB ram is hardly being put under pressure during ram preview.

  • Motion judder

Anyone out there experiencing the same? I've just bought a Samsung LA32A550 (5 series LCD) to go with my Apple TV. But watching my iTunes downloaded Alien vs Predator Requiem (HD version) the motion judder made the film unbearable to watch. I was so impressed with the Apple TV when I fired it up and synched my music and photo files. And downloading movies is a joy. But the motion judder slapped me back down to earth.
I was wondering whether it's a clash of MHz - Samsung is 60MHz but I don't know what Apple TV is. In the 1080p mode there's no adjustment. The csreen is fine with DVD which points to the problem being the Apple TV or its compatibility with the Samsumg. Help me somebody.

Have you seen the same movie on DVD to say it's definitely related to AppleTV playback?
Juddery motion can be due to a number of things:
    - usually happens with fast pans when you become aware of unnatural motion effects
    - older movies/shows tended to have far slower pans than newer ones
    - poor encoding of the source video for AppleTv could be responsible
    - too complex encoding of source material for AppleTv could be responsible (it struggles to keep up with frame creation), but seems unlikely
    - network not keeping up for streaming leads to juddery motion (not here)
    - TV processing/display not capable of reproducing smooth motion
If you're happy with playback from DVD and haven't noticed big issues then I suspect it's AppleTv and the file encoding. Out of interest, how are you connecting your DVD player and is it an upscaler or not?
I watched Disney's Enchanted in HD last night on the 1080p setting and there's quite a lot of fast movement/action in that in places and I didn't really notice many motion artefacts, and my Panasonic plasma is not the best when it comes to motion judder in panning shots.
I don't know either what refresh rate the 1080p is, but given that AppleTV cannot officially decode any higher than 720p at 24fps (which is then upscaled to 1080p rather than being 1080p source resolution), it could be a case of a movie being 24fps causing issues played back at 50Hz or 60Hz via your Tv, whereas your PAL DVDs are usually encoded at 25fps.

  • Is Motion compatible with Mac mini?

    Hello,
We have Motion 3, and the management is considering to buy a new Mac mini.
Here are some specs for the new Mac mini they are considering -
    2.4GHz Intel Intel Core 2 Duo / 4GB DDR3 SDRAM / 320GB hard drive / SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 320M / Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, IEEE 802.11n (draft)
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard
With our current setup (see info below) I can't use the Light feature in Motion 3 and was told by Mark Spencer4 that,
"Motion isn't supported on a Mac Mini. In particular, lights won't work."
Will the latest Mac mini support Motion 3? How about Motion 4?
Overall, I'm dissatisfied with the performance of Motion on this Mac mini. It's very slow and I've heard that there are still memory shortages even in the latest Mac mini.
    Any advice or suggestions?
    Thank you
Specs for our current Mac mini -
    Model Name: Mac mini
    Model Identifier: Macmini1,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 1.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MM11.0055.B08
    SMC Version (system): 1.3f4

    From the Motion page:
ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (*integrated Intel graphics processors not supported*)
    From the Mac Mini specs:
It gives you next-generation NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics — the fastest integrated graphics processor on the market today — and speedy DDR3 memory.
So, it's not using "Integrated Intel graphics processors.
My only question would be Motion needs 128MB of VRAM. Would 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory that the mini has, suffice.
As for the lights, I would think since the 320M uses OpenGL 3.2 that Lighting would not be a problem.
Just the memory issue would slow it down.

  • How to disable motion detector in mac book black!

Hi there I recently changed the harddisc in my mbb 2008 model to a crucial ssd! I
understand it so that motiondetctor is no longer required  now?
I suspect it still interferes with my system as I notices lugging in webcams online  (pict freezes then continues) This did not occur before change...
Regards from Mbb SL owner  now with 256 gb SSD very smooth.

Just to make you comfortable, Bob isn't posting some "hack" for disabling the Sudden Motion Sensor.  Apple condones this method:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1934
However... this comment caught my attention:
This did not occur before change...
Regards from Mbb SL owner  now with 256 gb SSD very smooth.
I agree with shutting down the SMS if you have an SSD (there is no purpose for it).  However, if you were not experiencing stuttering in your video with your hard drive and the SMS enabled, I don't see why the SMS would be responsible for stuttering with your SSD.  For starters, the SMS should only be activating if you are moving your machine around.  If you are not moving it around and you are still experiencing stuttering, you may have a different problem.  While SSDs offer great performance when they work properly, different brands and models have had varying degrees of success in Macs (sometimes working in one model but not another... or sometimes even working in one model and not in another machine that is the same model).    Random "pauses" is one of the more common problems.   Let us know if disabling the SMS works for you.

  • Installing Apple Motion On A Mac Mini

I have a 2007 Mac mini with OS X 10.6.8 and Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I want to install Apple Motion but it is saying that my computer does not meet the video card requirements. What are my options?

If you're asking whether you can upgrade the video card in the mini, the answer is no.

  • Motion 1 on Mac OSX 10.5.8 Crashes

    Hi,
I recently bought Apple Motion (apparently version 1) off of Amazon... I have Final Cut Express and didn't want to pay for Studio but wanted Motion. Anyway, I installed it and opened it up. First, it tries to register but instead gives me a message of:
    "Registration Error
    An error occurred: coreFoundationUnknownErr."
Then, the program goes to the main screen, except there is no title bar (File, Edit, Help, etc). From there, I can open a new project or something, but almost anything will make it crash... so it's basically unusable.
Now I understand that this is an older piece of software (the copyright says 2004), so I can understand if it doesn't work with new hardware systems/operating systems. Is that the case, is it possible to run it successfully on 10.5.8, or should I return it? If so, what should I do? Or am I just doing something wrong and the program's fine?

Motion 2.1 was an update to Motion 2 that supported Intel Macs. It was known as a "crossgrade". It was not sold separately.

  • Motion crashes while trying to open it. Please help.

    Hi All,
This is my first ever port in any forum. I had Final cut studio installed on my computer and was working without any trouble. But Day before yesterday my friend installed some free plugins for motion in my Mac. That day it worked without any trouble. But the moment we opened motion yesterday with a template it opened but half of th template was missing. Like partially it was displayed and re was blank/black. So what i did, i downloaded Final Cut Studio Remover from google and removed FCS from my computer i did that for whole package. Then i tried to install it and had no trouble doing that. But the moment i tried to open application from that suite all them started crashing the moment i opened them with the below error message. What all i have tried is removed plist from my sytem, created new user account.

  • Motion 3 - Crashes every time I try to change font

I'm having trouble with Motion on my Mac Pro at work. I'm trying to create a title graphic. I can create a text layer and type the text, but when I choose the font drop-down list from the HUD, Motion crashes. Help! It's getting a little frustrating.

    hi
i have been having the same problem. I went through my entire font list and disabled the ones it had a problem with. But then ones it was fine with before will crash it now. One way to absolutely make motion crash is to to use the Font menu in the text inspector and scroll down it to dynamically change the font. This will always crash it. The way round it is to get the menu up, pause and then scroll down and make a choice. This way the text object doesn't automatically update.
If you look at the crash report in my case, it seems to related to a call to GetGlyphMetrics. This didnt happen before we had the glyph control we have in M4, so I can only assume there is something screwy with the code, now it is doing more with the text objects.
not helpful, but you are not alone.

  • Motion keeps crashing on launch.

I recently upgraded to Leopard from Tiger on my 1st generation G5. I already have FCP Studio on my computer and everything was working excellent before the upgrade. I have tried just about everything and I cannot get Motion to launch without crashing. I checked the logs and it said the Library couldn't be loaded. I currently have motion located in MAC drive>Library>Application Support>Motion. I also checked the Frameworks folder and the Motion folder is listed there.
Do I need to trash all the Motion files in the RECEIPTS folder then try launching Motion again?
I had this same exact problem with FCP, Livetype and Soundtrack Pro but I was able to get those back up and running smoothly but I can't figure out why Motion is giving me a hard time.
FYI, I made the mistake of not preserving my user settings before I did an Archive and Install of Leopard. So my files are all over the place. I have tracked most of them down though.

ok I will give it a try. Is there anything that I need to delete or trash? Like I said I got everything else to work just by dragging certain files to the correct folder. It's a long process but it works. Just can't get Motion to work! I think I have all the files where they need to be but something like a preference file or receipts might need to be trashed too.

  • Motion 5 Not Launching Correctly

Purchased, for the first time, FCPx, Compressor 4 and Motion 5 from the Mac App Store. Both FCPx and Compressor launches and works fine. Motion worked upon the first initial launch after installation. Every subsequent launch of Motion comes up with the menus. Project Browser sometimes, but not always, displays. Most options in the menu drop-downs (things like New... and Preferences) and buttons in the Project Browser (you have to leave the app and then return to it to have the Project Browser appear) do not work. Even the buttons located on the Splash Screen (Apple Menu...About Motion) do not work. I have deleted the user preferences: com.apple.motionapp.plist I have also uninstalled, re-downloaded and reinstalled Motion from the Mac App Store. Any assistance in getting this program working, will be greatly appreciated.
No previous versions of Final Cut (anything). Updated to OSX 10.6.8. Machine info: Mac Pro 2,1 8-core 3GHz, 8GB RAM, 1900XT and 7300GT

    This issue has been resolved.
It seems there was an issue with the System and not the Application or User space.  I tried to restore 10.6.7 (with M5, FCPX and C4) installed.  (I installed these apps prior to 10.6.8.)  This resulted in kernel panics after restores from different dates and OS numbers.
Re-installed SL on a clean partition and updated to 10.6.8 with the Combo download.  Ran Software Update once. Restarted to verify the system was working properly and then used Migration Assistant to restore the Apps and Users from TM.  Everything in these spaces restored except for Motion.  (It was not in the Application Folder in TM but the Application Support and User prefs were.)  I copied Motion from the 10.6.7 version of the TM backup to the now clean and fully migrated OS.  Motion works now as expected.  I don't know what was going on with this but am happy to report this resolution.  (I really don't want to go digging through Console to find out what really was causing this.)

  • How to disable Leap Motion app from startup?

Hi, I installed the Leap Motion on my Mac running Mountain Lion. Whenever my computer boots up, the Leap Motion app automatically starts up as well. I tried checking the specific settings of Leap Motion but there was no configuration there. I also tried to look on the Startup Items (System Preferences > Users & Groups) but there was no entry regarding Leap Motion.
Is there another way to check how to disable this from happening?
    Thanks.

You will find a line item
    com.leapmotion.Leap-Motion.plist
    Library/LaunchAgents
Just rename from .plist to .bak - incase you would like to auto startup again.
I believe Leap Motion chose to use LaunchAgent rather than 'Login Items' is because they couldn't get it to startup all the time.

  • Motion 3 & Shake - Which To Choose?

OK, not trying to start a war.. I just have some basic questions regarding these two apps. Looking for some opinions on this.
I am fairly new to Shake, so with the announcement of FCS2 I am considering moving away from Shake in favor of Motion 3. I really like Shake and I understand the workflow, but now there is much overlap between the two applications (at least for my needs). Re-timing, GPU acceleration, motion tracking, etc. From what I understand, some features from Shake made their way over to M3.
As a serious hobbyist (filmmaker), am I making a mistake by not keeping Shake in my toolbox? I'm honestly having trouble thinking of things I'm doing in Shake that Motion 3 could not handle (again, for at least for my immediate needs).
    Thanks all-

Since there is, and won't be any more upgrades to Shake, there's no reason abandon it. The more ways you can skin a cat, the better. Keep it in your toolbox. It doesn't even take up much hard drive space.
Also, I think Motion 3 will remain primarily a motion graphics application. It's great that it's borrowing some tech from Shake, but I think that's a desire to compete with After Effects. I doubt Apple is building Motion to be a Shake killer. I have the feeling we're going to see a successor to Shake somewhere down the road.
I'm not a Shake user myself (yet), but I have an pretty good idea how **** powerful it can be. You mentioned you were new to the program, so it could just be that you haven't quite unearthed its potential, or haven't had need to yet. But if you're making films, it would probably be remiss to disregard Shake in light of Motion 3.

  • EPS File and FCP/Motion

Ladies/Gentlemen, I have my Logo in a EPS Format and I am trying to keep the Transperancy. I tried exporting out of Photoshop and Illustrater as a Tiff file with no success. I also tried Jpeg , but ofcourse I get a white background. Can anyone let me know how to prep or convert an EPS file to work in FCP and Motion.

When saving a TIFF out of Photoshop, the second save dialog box offers the options for transparency, however this is based on that your logo is on a transparent background, not a white background.

  • Third Party Motion Tracking: Importing?

    Hi there,
Recently, I came across a free 3D motion tracker (on Mac, called Icarus) which also does a great job on 2D tracking. It does a point-based tracking, just like programs like After Effects, making it perfect for precise position and rotation tracking.
So, obviously, I started thinking of ways to copy the tracking data into Pre. We know that within Pre, you can copy the keyframe data from any clip to an other clip. But something I couldn't figure out, is how that keyframe-structure then looks on the clipboard. Does it even get copied to the clipboard? Or does Pre use an internal variable to store this copy-paste data?
I wasn't able to figure this out. I tried copying full clip info to a basic texteditor, only the motion data, even corner pin data and keyframes; non of it worked.
So all I actually want to know, how can you be able to use an external source to paste keyframe information into Pre?
A long evening of Googling really didn't get me any further.
This tracker in particular (Icarus), can export to both 'Human Readable' documents and After Effects keyframe data. Since almost any free motion tracker is capable of exporting to After Effects keyframes, I can make an After Effects keyframe to Premiere Elements keyframe converter (web-based), if necessary.
I hope someone can help me any further on this!
    Thanks,
    Oscar

Thanks for that reply, but I either I didn't understand your reply or I wasn't being clear.
I don't have After Effects. All I have is Premiere Elements, in which I want to do some basic, yet precise motion tracking. In Pre, the tracking is simply not precise enough or it can't even find an 'object' where I just want to track a single point.
So luckily, I found the seperate Motion Tracker application which does a perfect job at the tracking. It can export the keyframe information into an After Effects format (that's why I mentioned AE in the first place ).
Now the point is: how do I copy that keyframe information into Premiere Elements?
Which brings up an other question: what keyframe-format does Premiere Elements use when you copy keyframes from one clip to an other?
I hope this makes my question more clear.
