Motion Lens Flare

Hi,
I'm new to Motion. I imported a graphic and placed a lens flare on it at a certain point it time. Then Imported it to FCP. Looks great until the lens flare comes on screen. It has a black box with it that takes up most of the screen. When I import it without the lens flare there is no black box. It's as though what is suppose to be transparent layer is not. Can anyone tell me how to fix this or what I did wrong?
Thanks

Progress! You're right, it does, and I was too hung up on the M3 project to think of it that way.I changed the blend mode of the template in FCP to "add" and it did get rid of the black, but now it's too bright and is no longer completely opaque. Should I counter that change w/ a change to the blending in the Motion project? It is currently set to "add".
I have the (Round) National Guard logo spinning in, gaining opacity from zero, from the right with a lens flare flash on the way. It stops on the left after 15 frames and flashes, depositing a minuteman image before fading out. The whole thing lasts about a second and a half. The resulting minuteman looks like a ghost with increased brightness and an opacity of roughly 60-70%.
When I use the flare render effect in FCP I have to change the layer to "add" before it keys properly. When I do it in the Motion project it does not. The reason I didn't know until I got it into FCP is because I was running a black background in Motion. Now I'm running it in white and the flare still blacks out the background. Interesting that video will show through it.
Anyway, I'm talking all over... Hopefully you'll reply. Thanks, Mark.

  • No alpha channel when BCC lens flare applied

    Hello
With the help of Andy Neil, I created a light sweep for a lighthouse logo. I added a BCC RT Lens Flare Adv filter to enhance the effect of the light sweeping past the viewer. I looked great.
Then I got to thinking that the lighthouse logo with light sweep would make a great lower third, so I scaled it down to logo bug size and superimposed it over a lower third background.
The problem is that the inclusion of the BCC Lens Flare filter seems to add a black layer over the entire movie so that the lower third cannot superimpose over my talking head. I know it's the BCC Lens Flare because when I deactivate the filter and export, the alpha channel is present and the lower third is superimposed over the footage.
I've tried exporting with Lossless+Movie Alpha and Animation,
My question: Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I might be able to remedy?
    Thank you,
    Blake

Yes, the lens flare is the problem. The generator is rendered as a blend mode which blends only with the elements in the project. The blend doesn't export as transparency because a blend mode is only transparent when combined with another layer.
    Here are your solutions:
    1) Composite the lower thirds with the video in Motion. If the bkg layer is in Motion, then the ADD blend mode applied to the lens flare will work properly.
    2) Create an alpha matte layer. This requires you to create a black and white image of your project that defines transparency for your lower 3rd. Export that as well, and then do a Composite Mode-Luma in FCP.
    3) Apply a Luma Key to your lens flare before export. This works, but is imperfect because the filter will inevitably key out some of the not-so-bright aspects of the lens flare, leaving you with a diminished result.
    4) (My Suggestion): Apply the lens flare in FCP. FCP contains the SAME lens flare generator used by Motion. This will give you the best possible result with the least amount of extra work on your part.

  • Hi, I downloaded the app for macbook "Lens Flare for Final Cut" and I've struggled a lot to install this app at final cut . Someone could help me ? i´m from Mexico i speak spanish

Hi, I downloaded the app for macbook "Lens Flare for Final Cut" and I've struggled a lot to install this app at final cut . Someone could help me ? how i can install this app in Final Cut? this app cost me money and not is working to me, i am disappointed sorry if a write bad, i´m from Mexico i speak spanish

This is a user2user board for FCPX - maybe better you discuss your issues with the makers of that 'plug in'
Seems for me a  bit 'fishy', isn't it? - other professional plug-in makers deliver with an installer... That advice at AppStore, how to install it, is ... rare:
How install it ? – click the launch button. Motion 5 will start itself. When Motion is open click save as. Write a generator name - Lens Flare and choose category RGB HOUSE or make it. Click Publish and you are done. If you don’t have Motion 5 look at support site - how to install in FCP.
How it works ? – In Final Cut Pro you will find in Generators RGB HOUSE group, where will be Lens Flare. Drag this generator above all clips in timeline. When it’s there remember to change blending mode to Screen (in video section). You can adjust color, steak color, glow, intensity, scale - apacity and blur of artifacts, position. Any parameter could be stored as a keyframe, so You can easily animate the flare.
so, I don't speak Spanish, lets have some fun with translate.google...:
Hope it makes at last a little sense... I don't trust these automatic translators
(the German translation is ... awesome funny!)
Finally: it's from 2012! Needs probably an update - contact the dealer!

  • Where's the Lens Flares?

    Hi everyone!
I recently installed Final Cut Studio on my MacBook Pro, and I think it's great. However, it's lens flare ability is rather poor.
Does anyone know where I can download free or not too costly lens flare filters or effects that actually get the job done? Any for Motion?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

Double-check at their website, but I think Nattress effects may have a lens flare section. You can purchase the whole group of effects for $99 I believe. Or, design a lens flare in Photoshop like suggested above. Have on transparent background, or use blending modes to make it so, and save as a file that uses transparency. Bring into Final Cut and move it around by keyframing the position/rotation property. Or, use After Effects instead of motion and you'll never have these problems.

  • Compositing lens flare

I am working with 10bit pal uncompressed video, captured with a AJA Kona.
On the timeline I have created a lens flare Video Generator, which I wish to composite on top of some video. The lens Flare has some key framed animation on it.
The compositing that I have chosen is 'SCREEN' as this seems to do the job of making the flare sit on top of the image and not blend it into the image like all the other compositing options do. When I go through the various frames all looks good.
However when I render this, the look completely changes and it starts to blend together, looking nothing like what it did, and how I need it. can anyone help with a solution or explanation to this, or even other a better solution for what I want achieved?

I've just realised that in Motion 3 the lens flare filter still exists but you need to load the "Tech Blue - Lower Third" template to find it. It should be possible to copy it from here into your project. I'm not sure why it can't be found by searching within Motion.

  • "Fringe" lens flares.

Anyone watching the new show "Fringe"? They are using this intense blue lens flare effect with two horizontal streaks. It doesn't look like the usual thing Light Factory can produce. It has a real world optical feel that doesn't look like a plug-in.
Any idea how to reproduce it?
    VIDEO:
    http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w134/navstar/?action=view&current=fringeScreenSnapzcrop .flv
    SCREENSHOTS:

No idea. Since each flare is different (depending on lens type, intensity of the light source, light color and distance to camera), it would be major undertaking to catalog them all, let alone provide stock libraries for re-use. Sometimes you can find test footage such as the one linked from my blog entry here http://blog.myleniumstuff.de/?p=57, but it is rare. After all, one of the reasons plug-ins are so popular is because flares are often avoided on location to have more creative control later on. Only in recent years this documentary style has entered the dramatic movie and series arena, allowing for such artifacts to be produced in camera. For your specific problem I would really attempt to create a graphic in PS for the anamorphic streaks (which are doubled because some extra glass or filter was used in front of the lens) and move them around manually. The rest of the flare is actually quite conventional, so that part could still be done with KLF...

  • Is there a way to remove lens flare in pix using PSE 6?

I have some really nice pix that are ruined by lens flare.  Because flare is not in sky or other featureless area of pic, I can't just use clone tool. Any suggestions?

Color Balance is a simple way, not automatic though.

  • How do I create this special lens flare effect?

    Hey all!
So I was wondering how to create a lens flare-like effect. I should mention that I already know how to make the circle lens flare effect in after effects but I'm looking for more of a colored "wash" lens flare effect.
The effect is in this video starting at 00:16 seconds, with the lady in the car and the pink/yellow hues bouncing around.
    http://vimeo.com/60631128
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or at least pointing me towards a tutorial or just the name of the effect so i can find a tut.
    Thanks all!

First created shape layer that is Close to the base color you want for your flair. Second add fast blur or Gaussian blur of a value that is about half the size of your shape layer. Change the blend mode to add, duplicate, increase the blurb about 50%, duplicate repeat until you get what you want. Many times when creating this kind of an artificial lens flare effect I would use many different colors in the same flare. Sometimes I will make the layers 3-D and move them around in 3-D space.
The only other really good option is to buy some stock footage of real lens flares and colorize them using color grading effects.
by the way, one color grading and creating "light" affects you should always work with 32-bit projects.

  • Film noise / lens flare in cs4?

    Hi,
Years ago I used to use Premiere 6 - real old school!
It had a great effect, listed in the Quick Time folder within video effects, which allowed you to add film noise (random scratch marks) and lens flare so that your movie looked like it had been shot on an old super 8 or something similar.
I now have CS4 but can't find an the same effect in there. Surely it's possible to do - they can't have LOST an effect in development over all these years?!
    Any ideas greatly appreciated!
    cheers

Looking at my XP version of WMM (not the more recent Live version), I see Film Age, Old, Older and Oldest, plus Film Grain. All could be useful.
One can also Keyframe the fixed Effect>Opacity to get "flicker." If one wants the "flicker" to go lighter, then just place a Color Matte (white) on Video Track 1 and the footage on Video Track 2, then apply those Keyframed Opacity Effect.
If you are thinking about doing the "aging" in Pr 6.0, you might want to look into doing an Export from CS4 and working on that. Something like DV-AVI Type II should be fine, but maybe even using the Lagarith Lossless CODEC (if Pr 6.0 supports it, and I think that it will), and then Exporting from Pr 6.0 to Lagarith.
If you use WMM, you would do similar, but I rather doubt that it will process the Lagarith Lossless CODEC (might want to experiment), and then Export as DV-AVI Type I. This file should Import into CS4 fine, though it is slightly different than DV-AVI Type II. One possible issue might be Video and Audio going OSS (Out Of Sync), but when this happens, it's usually static OOS, and not dynamic OOS, so it's easy to fix. Another workflow would be to Export as DV-AVI Type I and use a conversion program (plenty of free ones, like Prism) to convert to DV-AVI Type II.
One consideration is that since ultimate quality is not what you want, not even worrying about something like Lagarith Lossless, as a little more degradation might actually help you achieve your goal - Old Film.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - Also, the Effect>Strobe might be useful?

  • Do you also experience lens flare with iPhone 4S?

I got my iPhone 4S 32G white few days ago and it's been working fine.
But when I take picture at night, I see some white dots which seem to be lens flares.
It happens especially when pointing bright objects(such as streetlight) in the dark place.
Do you also exprience this problem?
I'm not sure if my iPhone is defect or it's something that all iPhones have.
    Thanks.

I had the same issues with my 4s. The apple guy says its normal when u shoot against bright light. I m sharing some photos, which I have collected..
hopr this helps..Also did you replace ur phone?

  • Knoll light factory or Optical flares, which is better for Lens Flares?

Before I spend my money, I'd like to know which one has better lens flares, which is better etc. etc.

Before I spend my money, I'd like to know which one has better lens flares, which is better etc. etc.
That's really not a smart question, if I may say so. Both feature an editor that allows you to construct pretty much any flare you like. You really should download the demo of Knoll and try for yourself and then compare that to OF by looking. The rest of the process is more you needing to understand how flares work and how to make them look good. That is exactly Navarro's point - you could have thousands of presets but none of them might be usable in a given situation because they are all to flamboyant and more fiction than reality. in such a situation, the tool creating them doesn't really matter much...

  • Animated lens flare  inaccuracy between the main timeline

I'm having trouble with my animated Lens Flare and the inaccuracy between the main timeline. It's the default AE filter. I have the Lens Flare animation in a composition called textbox which is within the main composition.
If you look at the screenshot you'll see the animated lens flare which moves from left to right. This animation is in my textbox comp.
On the second screenshot you'll see I'm at the same time, but the flare animation is inconsistent. I can't figure out what it is. I have the fps all the same.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    It worked!
Thank you very much. By any chance to have an explanation as to why the collapse transformation did what it did? Or maybe somewhere I can read to learn?
    Thank you again,
    Kaido.

  • Change color or opacity to lens flare animation?

Just wondering if it's possible to change the opacity or even the color to the lens flare animation. It looks great using a black background, but I need to do a presentation on a light grey-white background and it just doesn't have the same effect because the colors show from the lens flare. The shimmer and sparkle animations are not an option.
    Any one have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

The only adjustments available to the Lens Fare build is the direction.

  • Whats the best technique or filter/software for adding lens flares, sun warmth to images?

    Hi all,
Just wondering is there a special filter software out there that specialises in lens flares when trying to add them into photos via Photoshop?
Or a special technique that is used?
Eg these have all been digitally added in
    http://www.foxcreative.net/dave-hill/07.jpg
Obviously there is the lens flare filter in photoshop, but I find it doesn't give me the results I am after usually, either that or I don't know how to use it properly!
Or am I just better of experimenting manually with blurring circles, lowering there opacities and blend modes?
    Any help would be great

The lens flare in photoshop is a perfectly good filter and experimenting with it will give you the desired effect, there is a good tutorial here for a non destructive lens flare http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/lens-flare/ and there are many others available online. You could also go the commercial plugin route but you have the additional cost. Knoll Light Factory is a fantastic plugin suite.
