Motion Locks Up Computer

I purchased FCS2 and installed it yesterday afternoon, used it for a while, then after it crashed I ran the software updater (should've done this immediately after installation, but I was excited). I thought this was going to fix the crashing, but I was wrong!
I hesitate to call it a crash, because it's not shutting down as much as its locking up everything. Sometimes it will let me move the mouse, sometimes it will not. It won't let me force quit, it won't bring up the dock, or do much else. No error reporting option comes up because it never quits, it just freezes. The only way that I've been able to revive the machine is to reset it. Even then, the usual, Mac OS X shut down unexpectedly, please report to Apple, dialog does not appear. Any reason why this would occur?
Quad 3.0 Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   4 GB Ram, X1900, 500 GB

The problems I have encountered have shown up when using 3d stuff too. I wonder how many others are seeing the same thing. If it's a 3d issue, then thats disappointing. If its a software install issue, then I can at least deal with it and wipe the OS and reinstall everything.

  • 'I should lock my computer' spoken warning

    Hi there,
Since carrying out the latest software update to my macbook air running mountain lion (10.8.5), my computer keeps telling me 'I should lock my computer' every couple of hours. I don't have a lock screen setup on my computer, seeing as it's my work and personal computer and it's pretty much always with me and I don't really want one as I like just being able to pick it up and use it.
The warning itself is spoken to me which makes it incredibly annoying. I could be in the middle of a film and out of nowhere this robotic voice appears saying 'I should lock my computer.' I've checked in my settings for accessibility and nothing it switched on. Does anyone know firstly why this is happening and secondly how I switch it off?
    Cheers,
    Tom

Mystery solved. Was a cron job setup by a hilarious friend of mine.
I was able to access the cron job file in terminal using crontab -e and then remove the line 'say i should lock my computer'
    Or just 'crontab -r'.

  • Itunes is locking my computer up...Help

When I open iTunes the cursor instantly goes to the rainbow ball. Outside of iTunes the cursor is normal but if it try to force quit iTunes or click anything else it locks my computer up completely. I have tried waiting it out eventually my monitor goes to a blue screen. I NEED HELP. I cannot listen to music and i am afraid to plug in my iPhone or iPod.

Log in as new user and start itunes. If you're not having problems doing this in your new account, check your other software in your normal account for conflicts with itunes.
If you can't open itunes using your new account, remove itunes and reinstall a new copy: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224
Back up your itunes library before: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382 or http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751

  • Cannot log in back after screen saver locked the computer

    Hi there,
We have a domain environment with Windows 2012 R2 and a Windows 2003 domain controllers and Windows XP and Windows 7 clients. We have setup a GPO for screen saver which lock the computer after 15 minutes idle. In the last few weeks on some Windows 7 computers
after the screen saver locked the computer the users cannot log in back. Error message come up with Username or password is incorrect.
I've tried to reach the computer through RDP but same error came up even tried to log in as domain admin. I could log in as domain admin locally (switch user option) but as a user cannot. I've tried to restart Netlogon, Workstation and Server services but
nothing happened. In the event viewer no related error message. The only way to login back as a user to restart the computer. It is not really good solution as they opened lots of things which wasn't saved.
Anyone has any idea or experience to solve this issue?
    Many thanks

    Hi,
Since you could login with Domain Admin locally, it should didn't have problem with Netlogon service and other logon correspond service. It seems like the account itself problem.
When this problem occures, have you tried to use other computer logon with the problematic account for test? If other normal computer also had same problem when using the account. It's should your Server authenticate problem. If not, it maybe the domain
account profile problem, you can try to remove the account and readded it for test.
If there was any updates, please feel free let us know.

  • Any way to lock a computer like in Windows?

So I'm really quite new to the Mac world, and I'm used to locking my computer when I'm not using it. With Windows, all you do is press the Windows key + L and it locks the computer, but all your programs keep running and everything. As far as I can tell, on Mac there's only one way like that, and that is to set the screen saver so that you have to type in your password to unlock the display, and set it to come on at the least time possible.
Since I'm primarily using Leopard instead of XP for everything, surely there's a better way to keep my computer from being hijacked by annoying little brothers?

Simple screen-lock passwords as described above will suffice for most people.
But understand that if a miscreant has physical access to your computer and the right tools (e.g., a Leopard install DVD) they can force a reboot of the computer and do things to give themselves complete password access to your files.
The most serious type of locking for the Mac is called an "Open Firmware Password". Setting one of those prevents things like booting from a DVD, booting in "safe" or "single user" mode, or booting into Target mode. Do some searches and read up on it before your consider trying it. Setting one of those can leave you with no recourse if your computer develops a problem, as you will not be able to boot into any of the modes that might help. Combining that with File Vault encryption of a user's Home folder (System Preferences / Security) is about the best you can do to lock things down in the standard Mac toolset.
Do understand however, that if someone has physical access to your computer long enough to take out the disk drive and put it in another machine, you will likely find that even this degree of protection can, eventually, be compromised. All you are doing is the same thing people are doing when they put stuff in a safe -- they are making it take long enough (and require a sufficient degree of expertise) to break in that most folks won't try.

  • Macbook airport connection drops and locks my computer

So... I think my problem tops them all. Ive done alot of searching and ive found no topic relative to mine.
    - My intel macbook has an airport extreme that can succesfully connect to my schools network or my girlfriends network or my network at home. However...
Many times a day... as soon as i make my connection active by going on a web browser.
My Airport drops connection and locks my computer... only the mouse is avaliable, but
anything else i try to click.. i end up with the spinning beach ball. Only solution i can find
thus far is to force shutdown my computer and restart... Now i cant do a PRAM reset or
start up in safe mode. I dont know how to solve this...
Can anyone help me with this? It is incredibly annoying as i have to force shutdown my computer over 6 times a day which is... bad ... for my computer. More bad clusters.
    Thanks much ... G

My problem is a variation on yours.
I don't lose the airport connection at all. I can connect to my Airport Extreme base station and surf the Internet without a any hassle. I can see the other computers connected to said AEBS. Network drives are mountable.
HOWEVER, as soon as I start to transfer a file or folder from or to a mounted network drive, the transfer hangs. The only solution is to power-off Airport to get the Mac to acknowledge losing connection to the network drive. Otherwise I would continue to stare enlessly at a frozen progress bar.
Hopefully 10.5.2 will address the issue.

  • Lock the computer every hour for 10 min?

    Hi,
Is there a way to lock the computer every hour(or a preset time interval) making it inaccessible for a few min? this will force those long time user to take a rest from time to time:) Thanks,

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU D|I/O|nspace-h|n Cause: -|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • Why is there no easy way to lock or passcode email on macbook pro, aside from locking entire computer or screen saver?

I have searched Support for answers to this but many similar questions seem to go unanswered.  Why is it not possible for Apple to provide a simple way to lock and unlock email on the mac so that others don't have access to it and apps can't access email and contacts.  With all the concerns for privacy these days, it seems we should be able to deny access to our email and contact lists with advanced and easy privacy settings. Especially if family members or friends have access to the computer, there should be a better way to just close and password protect or lock access easily without having to log off and on as a different user? Thanks.  This seems to have been a recurring question for years!

Not just your email, but all your other files as well -- your entire computer can be protected by setting an option in:
    System Preferences > Security  ...
... require password after: immediately after sleep or screensaver begins (and you can choose longer time settings off a list as you wish).
When you come back to your Mac, the screensaver does not yield until you enter your password.

  • Itunes 7.1.1 locking up computer

I updated to itunes 7.1.1, however it now freezes and locks my computer after it opens. The lockup occurs when it is trying to update the itunes library. I have let it sit for several minutes to give it a chance to update but no progress is made on it. I eventually have to restart the computer to end itunes. I am unable to play music, view videos or browse the store. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Phoenix

that sounds like the library update might be choking on a content file.

  • Itunes locks up computer when I try to burn songs in itunes

i had to have this imac's original optical cd burner replaced with a  MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-85J: at an authorized apple location due to it would not eject discs.
I also had them replace the HD with a new  WDC WD10EALX-009BA0  1TB drive plus the increased the RAM to 3 GB.
now when i tried to burn songs in itunes  v 10.6.8  to a CD-R disc it goes thru the motions like it is going to start the burn process but ends up freezing my computer and I have to reboot without any disc being burned!??   It freezes each time I tried using itunes to burn songs.
I was also getting an error message saying some of the songs were not authorized on this computer but when I go to authorize this computer it says it is already authorized as well as 3 others out of 5 possible.
This imac has been used by all of us but since replacing the HD & CD drive mainly my daughter and my wife plug their iphones and ipad2 to it.  We all have iphones and an ipad2 but only my wife and daughter hook those items up to this computer as I have two other macs I use to connect my iphone to so have not tried to hook to this imac since the new hardware was installed.
My daughter was the 1st one to hook her iphone up to this imac and itunes now shows her name at the top of the itunes window when open.  I assume her name was transferred to this computer via her iphone.  Does that matter if my wife hooks her ipad2 and iphone up to this computer too?
Why would the computer lock up when trying to burn a music disc?
    Thanks
    Bob

I run Win 7 64 bit, there are no compatibility problem.
Give us your specs, also any information about what happened to you, and we'd at least have a fighting chance to sort things out.
Now, we've got no clue as to what went wrong.

  • Safari won't load and trying to open it locks my computer

Okay, so I'm at a loss. A few weeks ago, Safari crashed. When I tried to open it again, it would bounce on the dock, the pinwheel would come up and then nothing else would happen....when I tried to quit Safari, I noticed the computer was locked-up and there was nothing I could do but a hard restart. This happens every single time. In an attempt to fix the problem, I reinstalled the OS but that has not fixed the problem.
    Any suggestions?
    I'm on a 27' Imac, running Mavericks 10.9.4 and Safari 7.0.6

Back up all data before proceeding.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select
               ▹ Force Quit…
from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
    Step 1
If Adobe Flash Player is installed, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
              Caches/com.apple.Safari
              Caches/com.apple.SafariServices
              Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
              Caches/com.apple.WebProcess
              Caches/Metadata/Safari
              Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
              Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If the problem is solved, stop here. Close the Library folder. If you still have a problem, continue.
    Step 2
If Safari still doesn’t work, quit, go back to the Finder, and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (again, some may not exist):
              Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
              Internet Plug-Ins
              Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.Safari.*.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
              PubSub/Database
              Safari
              SyncedPreferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Here, "*" stands for a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes.
Note 1: You are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”
Note 2: This step will remove your Safari extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to reinstall them, do so one at a time, testing each time to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
Try again. Your settings and bookmarks will be lost. The default set of bookmarks will be restored. Delete them all.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select
              File ▹ Import Bookmarks...
from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that may have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in Step 1. Stop here and post again.
If you don’t like the results of Step 2, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place.
