Motion project length for FCPX effects templates.

When creating a Motion Effect Template for FCPX, is there a recommend project length?  Is shorter better since the effect will change based on the clip length in FCPX? Or does it really matter as long as it is long enough to cover all included behaviors, etc?  Thank you.

Generally the 10 second default duration works quite well.

  • Good website  for After Effects templates and stock footage in UK?

    Hello all,
    Can anyone recommend a good websites for downloading AE templates and stock footage in the UK please. I see plenty of gt American companies/ websites  but I  am reluctant to use templates and videos that are mastered in 29 frames and not 25 frames (UK).
    Many Thanks

    Session timeouts.... I really do think it's the server. AE doesn't care for specific network stuff, it's all just volumes/ drives to the program. To avoid these issues, you would have to shorten the refresh cycles on your server availability broadcasts or the "keep alive" cycles on the connection/ session settings themselves. I'd know how to do it on Win Server, but I have no clue with regards to XServe configuration. Still, certainly some simple console commands and a restart of the server software should be able to take care of the matter.

  • Convert motion project into title template

    I started working on a motion project, not sure what template to use, so I created a standard motion project.  After working on the project for about 20 hours, I am now realizing that the title template would probably be the best option for this project even though I am not doing any actual titles.  I was able to convert the project to a video effect template, but this is not really what I want.  Is there some way to convert this project to a title template?  Even if I have to copy/paste everything over to a new project, that would be a lot better than redoing the 20 hours that I've already spent on this thing.  Since I can only have one project open at a time, I don't think copy/paste is even possible.

    I think this will work for you.
    -Select all the groups in your Motion project (or nest them in a single group.
    -Drag the group(s) to the Library>Favorites.
    -Create a new Final Cut title project with the same settings.
    -Drag and Drop the group(s) from the Library>Favorites into the new Final Cut Title project.
    Save and enjoy.

  • FCP opening anamorphic motion project files as 4:3

    I have a 720x480 anamorphic motion template which I need to place in a 720x480 anamorphic FCP sequence. FCP is automatically distorting the template, when I open it in the viewer (prior to dropping it into the timeline). It looks 4:3.
    When I drop it in the timeline, it is squished. The distort value is 33%. Anamorphic is unchecked in the browser. I know how to fix it once it's already in the sequence, but seeing as I have several hundred of these templates to use, I'd prefer to have FCP open it correctly.
    It does the same thing with motion project files, not just the templates.
    Anyone know a way to correct this in FCP?

    Ok, but for my workflow, I need to use motion templates, not project files. There is no way to correct this in the browser for a template. I need it to just come in 16:9.
    If I want SD footage in a 16:9 format (pillarboxed) what size do I make the sequence? Should it be some custom size that is not anamorphic, yet still much wider than tall?
    I need to standardize all my sequences (whether they are 16:9 footage or not), so that I can use one set of motion templates, which will be 16:9. Should the motion templates then be created in this same custom size?

  • After Effects template to show my Ipad Application I have created for a project?

    I am looking for a template in order to show the application I have created for a project this week.  The template needs to be able to show the hand gestures etc on an iPad in order to better relay how the app works.
    Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    Thank you for your attention in this regard.

    Yes need to show the hand gestures.  Any suggestions would be perfect.  Thanks Rick.  Just worried with time.  I had my phone stolen so have been trying to resolve that and need to get cracking with this for Friday morning presentation.
    I am going to try show basic hand gestures just to show where on the screen a child would touch. I'll try attach a Youtube video now to show you what I would like to do.  Not too new but have not used it in two years now so very scrappy!!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCRfVDfJUys
    Not the best example but I would like to do something similar. If not I guess screenshots and a "tapping" gesture can help.  Creatively it just needs to explain the App in the best visual way.
    Those twelve suggestions may be very handy.!!

  • Motion project to FCPX

    I created a logo animation to go at the end of a commercial. how do i import this into FCPX?

    Since your project is very specific to a set logo, exporting as ProRes 4444 is perfectly adequate. If you were designing a logo-style watermark or similar design, then you would want to be able to edit the text elements, and perhaps be able to change the color of the background elements from inside FCPX. In that case, you would "Publish Template" from the File menu. In the popup Publish dialog, you would check the bottom checkbox: "Publish as Final Cut Generator" -- provide a category (or select one from the Category dropdown) and give your Template a name. In FCPX, you would find it (immediately available, BTW) in the Generators > Category you saved it to.
    If your final destination for Motion projects is FCPX, when you start a new project, you would select one of the available projects from the opening dialog. Normally, a "logo style" design project would be a Title project (but it doesn't necessarily have to be as a Generator is also a viable choice.) If you start your project as one of these specific types (Effect, Generator, Title or Transition) the simple act of Saving the project automatically publishes the project for use in FCPX (you have no other choice to save it anywhere else! You still need to provide the Category and a Name in the Save dialog [duh].)
    If you decide to create  templates that are editable in FCPX, those parameters you would want access to in FCPX (for example things like shape colors, opacities, etc.) all you need to do is right click on the specific parameter in Motion and select Publish (if it is allowed!) from the popup menu. You can set default values for your published parameters by selecting the Project layer at the top of the layers list and then the Project pane from the inspector followed by the Publishing tab. (You can find out how to deal with "Snapshots" later on.)
    It's easy to create your own custom templates with Motion.
    Have fun!

  • Advice on best workflow for large Motion project

    I am a part-time video editor/designer/motion graphics creator/etc. Normally, I work on projects with pieces no longer than 5 minutes, even if the projects themselves might be 30-40 minutes of total material--mostly video support for conferences and awards shows.
    Right now I am embarking upon a mark larger project--10 30-minute segments, each of which is 100% motion graphics. They all involve a speaker against a green screen for the entire segment with the motion graphics keyed in front of and behind him.
    We recorded this directly to hard drive in a studio that had a VT4 (Video Toaster) system, so the best Mac-compatible codec they could provide me for clean green-screening was full-resolution component video. This is giving me great keys, but I also have about 500 GB of raw footage.
    In this project, I need to first edit all the takes from each episode into a clean 30-minute piece, and then add the motion graphics. And this is where my question comes in. It seems to me FCP is much better for editing the raw video, but that Motion is where I want to do just about everything else. I need to somehow bring the video into Motion, because I want to create "real" shadows against my background from my keyed footage.
    When working with a long project, and with a full-resolution codec, what is my smartest workflow? I am trying to spend the least time possible rendering back and forth, and also avoid generating huge in-between files each step of the way. It seems that any way to approach it has plusses and minuses, so I want to hear from people who have been there which path gets me to my goal with the least hassle.

    "Real shadows are only faked in Motion. You have many options including a simple drop shadow or a copy of your matte layer filled with a gradient and a gradient blur applied with a distortion filter so it appears to be projected onto the wall. Be sure to take the time to make this a template effect and to keyframe the shadow angle if the foreground subject moves.

    Well, you've got two conflicting interests. One, you have to sync the Motion work with the video of the keyed speaker and, two, you have to edit. But it seems to me that your planning must include lots of design work up front, media you can re-use or modify slightly, text formatting that can be precomped, a large stock of effects you will apply over and over again. Do all of this stuff first.
    You also want to explore working at lower rez through your planning and roughing stages. for instance, there's no reason to pull a full rez copy of your foreground into Motion if all you need to do is sync to his audio and get rough positioning. You can put him over black and export all of his clips using any medium to low rez codec at reduced frame rates and just use the Screen Blend Mode to drop him roughly onto your Motion projects.
    You'll get lots of advice over the next few days. If you're posting to other Motion or motion graphics forums, please do us all a favor and return someday to all of your threads and tell us what you did and what you learned.

  • Using .movs in Templates for FCPX

    Hi, all!
    I was trying to create a "Filter" in Motion 5 for use in FCPX. The idea was to make a "old film" effect, so I mad a vignette, border defocus, randomized Y motion and defocussing, flickering light - the whole shabang - and it looked great. Finally I composed a Quicktime .mov of actual 35mm telecined film scratches and dust over the image via multiply.
    When I use the effect on a clip in FCPX that is longer that the duration of the effect-template I created in Motion, FCPX "stretches" the effect temporarily, meaning my clip with the scratches and dust-particles plays back slower.
    Is there a possibility of having Motion or FCPX loop the .mov contained in the effect for the duration needed insted of time-stretching it?
    Sorry for cross-posting, but I posted this in the Motion 5 forum, too.
    Thanks for any thoughts
    Florian

    "Code makes my head spin"
    Then you are in the wrong business.  If you want to be at all effective with DW, that will have to change.
    I'm using swap image behaviors for a navigation bar and have made this an editable region so that on any certain page I can delete the swap image and just keep it as a steady image showing what page the viewer is on (does that make sense??).
    Yes, it makes sense.  It's also a fatal error.  By making the navigation element sit in an editable region you have made sure that each page will have to be edited manually.  Consider using a different approach - either use a menu system that does this kind of thing for you, or implement one of the many methods that will manage those menu images.  Here are some thoughts:
    It's easy to do with CSS or with javascript.
    With CSS you would have a little stylesheet embedded in the head of each
    page that allows you to set the down state for any given button (each button
    would have a unique id - for example -
    <a href="foo.html" id="button1">...<a href="bar.html" id="button2">
    and then your stylesheet would have this -
    a#button1 { styles }
    on one page, and on another this -
    a#button2 { styles }
    See how that works?
    With javascript, put this in script tags in the head of the document -
    function P7_downImage() {{
    var g7="<imagename>"
    var g7url="<pathname>"
    if ((g7=MM_findObj(g7))!=null) {{g7.src=g7url;}
    and this on the <body> tag
    onload="P7_downImage()"
    Then on each page you would need to make two edits:
    Set g7 to the *name* of the button (not the file name but the HTML name -
    e.g., "productsbutt"), and g7url to the pathname to the button (e.g.,
    "images/nav/button3.gif"), and bada bing, bada boom!

  • Using adobe after effects templates in fcpx

    Is it possible to use an adobe after effects template in motion 5 or fcpx? If so how do I go about doing this? I am fairly new to this and i found a template that i would really like to use for a football highlight video that i am putting together. Thank you ahead of time for any help that yall can give me.

    On more research, I discovered the following link showing a workflow to go between FCP X and After Effects.  Please disregard my first post.  Adobe After Effects is currently in 64 bit, but their site says it is compatible with Mac OS 10.5.8 and 10.6. Not sure if Lion would therefore be included.  Sorry for the wrong info.

  • Importing Motion project into After Effects

    I am attempting to import a Motion 4 project in After Effects CS4. I am using the suggested instructions:
    1 In After Effects, choose File > Import > File.
    2 In the Import File dialog, choose All Files from the Enable pop-up menu.
    3 Click to select the Motion project you want to import.
    4 Choose QuickTime Movie from the Format pop-up menu.
    5 Click Open.
    Motion does not show up in After Effects. What went wrong?

  • Edit Motion project as Motion template in FCP timeline?

    Hi,
    I'd like to know is it possible to turn basic Motion project into Motion template in Final Cut Pro timeline? If not possible I think this would be a great feature because it simply takes too much time to copy motion projects for example to 10 edits /library/motion... folder to have them accessible as templates. I know it wouldn't be possible to see preview videos this way but I wouldn't care. Motion templates are a great tool but this way a little bit too slow to use for simple text animations etc.

    In FCP, right-click the Motion project and choose open in editor. In Motion, choose save as template.

  • Motion 5 doesn't show dynamic guides on fcpx title templates

    I am trying to edit a FCPX title template in Motion 5. Specifically, it is Horizontal Blur. Once I open the template in motion, there are no dynamic guides. In the view menu, I have both Show Overlays and Show Dynamic Guides checked. Yet, no dynamic guides are showing.
    If I open a blank project, the dynamic guides work.
    Anybody run into this and have any thoughts on how to turn them on?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Thank you. That was the trick. I already had 2 snap buttons enabled. Surprised that there was yet another.
    Any reason why dynamic guides work on a new project but not on template? Is there a prefences override on FCPX templates?
    Thanks!

  • FX Factory 2.6 Released for FCPX & Motion

    For those interested, FX Factory have released version 2.6 for their plugins to work in FCPX and Motion 5.
    After installation, press command 5 to open effects browser and FX factory has it's own folder for the effects.

    I don't think there's any difference between the disc version, and the download from the FX Factory website, apart from the disk version potentially being quite old.
    In fact, you'll have to upgrade anyway to the latest version of FX Factory from the website to use most of the effects in FCPX 10.0.4/5
    I've bought a number of plugins from them, and find the purchasing aspect quite smooth and easy.  So easy, in fact, that I often sit at the computer and go "hmm... a few bucks for that effect, and that one and this one...", and I'm suddenly down for another hundred bucks in effects.
    FX Factory update the plugins and core app fairly frequently, and the updates are pretty hefty in size.
    So, buy off the website, and download it directly.
