Motion, Shake, Flash, etc.??????

I am looking for a reasonably costing program to do some 2D annimation. . . simple things like taking vector created logo's and explode the pieces, rotate etc. then incorporate them into presentations, web etc. I used LogoMotion a few years back and it was great. It's since been bought out and dismantled. Any recommendation for any of the above mentioned programs. I have looked at the Motion 2 information online but don't see where it or Motion is even for sale individually. I currently use FCE HD personally and professionaly work with AVID producers. I'm just having trouble justifying $499 for a program to jazz up presentations and add zip to web sites on occasion.
Any suggestions would be great

Well, I've done some experimenting and have found that LiveType will take Photoshop files and treat them like vector images. I just simply took my illustrator images and placed them into Photoshop. You can then use the canned effects or create new ones. I worked great. Now my problem was being able to use them on the web.
I found out about a program on this site called On2. It will take FCE files and convert them to a format that Flash will take and make a swf. Has anyone used this? It's just $39 and worth a try.
In the end, I am able to create the annimation myself without having to pay $499 for Flash but I can use it as such.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if the videos play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open IE and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component.  When done, restart IE.

Flash Player Protected Mode provides a modern, sophisticated set of security protections that we see as critical in today's security landscape.
We highly recommend that users not disable ProtectedMode.  Also, it's worth noting that by manually changing your mms.cfg, you have opted out of Protected Mode for all future versions of Flash Player, as we will continue to honor that preference. This puts your system at risk, and that risk will continue to grow over time.
Ultimately, this is an issue with the RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in.  There is a more technical explanation in the Mozilla bug referenced above in the thread, but the simplified version is that the security enhancements designed to prevent the introduction of malware via Flash Player make RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in no longer compatible with Flash Player for Firefox.  You can disable the record functionality to eliminate this issue, while retaining the ability to view both Flash and Real Player content.
To disable the Real Player Browser Record functionality while maintaining the enhanced security provided by Flash Player with Protected Mode, do the following:
        Launch RealPlayer
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper-left corner of the window, and choose Preferences
Choose Download & Recording from the left-hand menu
Uncheck "Enable Web Download & Recording for these installed browser"
        Click OK

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • Stop motion with flash

    Hi everyone.
i want to create an animation with stop motion. Create a sequence with 160 photos  numbered continuous.
    It's with flash cs3.
    thanks a lot!

It will be easy if you have your photos all named in a similar and sequential manner (ex: img1, img2, img3, etc) located in the same folder.  All you need to do is start the process of importing the first image to the stage, and midway thru that the program should recognize it is part of a series of images and will ask if you want to import the whole series, which you will say yes to.  I think it also asks if you want them arranged frame after frame (or assumes it), so you should end up with all of the images planted in the timeline for you in sequence.

  • Examples of web sites using Motion in Flash or QT?

I'd love to see some web sites using Flash or QT - created by the Motion experts who post here - showing off what someone who really knows Motion can do.

First of all, Thank you, Todd.
Now, seriously NOT tooting my horn here - also check out the Visual Effects here:

Many of them were created in Motion - The cloned girl, the polar bears, the infinite number of dump trucks, and others. The rest were either FCP or Shake or Combustion.

  • Showing High-Speed motion in Flash

    Hello All:
I am wondering if anyone has come up with a good method for
showing "high-speed" rotation of objects such as fans, wheels,
axles, shafts, etc. I create industrial training modules in Flash
and have employed several methods, most notably lines shifting
positions within a movie clip to give the impression of motion. But
my method leaves a lot to be desired and was wondering if someone
    has a better mousetrap.
    Thanks, Steve

i tried setting the frame rate faster (1000Hz), but it maxed out at the monitors frame rate (60Hz) - which kinda explains the resolution of Date.time
the high-speed timer only has to be consistent on my system.  i'm using the timer for performance testing and won't need it in a "shipping" environment.

  • New versions of Downloaded applications/programs/(Ex:Flash)/etc do not register in browser as updated.

My computer has been turned off for almost a year. When reconnecting, refreshing, updating, etc, everything that needs to be done on the computer, i come across the problem of firefox acting as though I did not update anything. I've followed all the prompts and directions from every site, for say Flash for example, and no matter how many times I run the update program, over in firefox the page never changes from the prompt telling me to upgrade the program. The program doesn't seem to update, even though I just told it to update. It's doing this with multiple programs. Please help me. What do I do?

Thank you! I don't know exactly which of these fixed the problem, but after turning my computer off to go to the hospital, then returning home later, I found that everything worked just as it should again.
Now my only problem is with my damn Wacom Bamboo tablet and Bamboo Dock program refusing to work properly, but, that's not a firefox issue so. I suppose I'll try to fine the help place like this one at the Wacom site or something,...
    I'm rambling, sorry.
Thank you all so much again.

  • Safari will not display video content/flash etc on websites ie youtube etc

I am running Panther 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6). When trying to access Youtube, Facebook etc Safari does not display video/animation etc and so Safari closes with an error. It will also not play video content on the Apple website. I would also like to know the following if someone could please help; What is the best software to upgrade to ie Tiger? etc ; What is the maximum memory upgrade for my machine and what would I ask for and best place to buy? Any assistance is much appreciated. Kind regards VJR1OK!!

You may find some improved online performance with Panther 10.3.9 with
the last supported Flash and Shockwave players installed (older ones have
to be uninstalled) and though the use of Camino browser since it is up-to-date.
There still will be some limitations; but if you have the correct Flash/Shockwave
players for Panther installed and get Camino, and use it as a default replacement
for that ancient Safari, that would make a difference. Also, it always makes sense
to get more RAM in an older computer since they usually shipped with very little.
In the case of older computers, often the capacity of the hard disk drive was also
a matter of marginalization. A large enough drive to have plenty of free space in
it, after applications and the OS X is installed, so the system can have room for
temporary files and Virtual Memory, then it can run the last supported OS X ok.
An externally enclosed bootable hard drive (FireWire enclosed unit) could be
used to add space or a second system for use when at a desktop, so for the
sake of discussion, the internal drive would not necessarily need replaced to
check out a different operating system that may need more room in a drive.
RAM is an easy fix; and a new browser from Camino.org - plus those players.
    Good luck & happy computing!

All that is said for Final Cut, Color, and Compressor is "Skip". Help would be greatly appreciated as this is preventing several pertinent projects from being carried out.

One last thing... I have seen a post that states that future versions of CS are 64-bit.  That may only apply to some
RAM intensive apps like After Effects and Premiere and the optional 64-bit version of Photoshop.
Also, have you tried running the installer as Administrator?  That may solve the issue.

  • All fonts NOT loading in Photoshop, Flash, etc.

I have installed a mass amount of fonts (around 2000) on this computere and for some reason Photoshop and Flash only read up to the end of letter G. It doesn't even list standard fonts anymore if their names start after the letter G. I have tried many things including clearing my font cache, removing all Photoshop files and reinstalling it, etc and nothing seems to be working. Does anybody have any ideas?

can anyone help me find good sanskrit fonts and
sanskrit transliteration fonts for OS 10.4.6.
i am working on a book and need this for it. thanks

For a specialized question like this it is best to start a new topic, rather than tag onto something discussing the problems of large numbers of fonts in Adobe apps.
OS X comes with the font Devanagari MT, which should also work for Sanskrit, although there are some special conjuncts it probably cannot do. No other font can do them either, however.
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/TypingDevanagari.html
The font Lucida Grande probably contains everything needed for Latin transcription of Sanskrit, though there are probably others you could use like Charis SIL or Doulos SIL.

  • Taking XDCAM 1440x1080 green screen to Motion to Flash???

I have an on camera segment shot green screen with an XDCAM camera. I edited the video in FCP and sent it to Motion as a 1440x1080 project. I did all of the green screen magic and now I want to export it so I can create a Flash video that is going to be keyed over the website using an alpha channel. The website dimensions are 1024x768. When I create a Flash for the web designers, it runs very clunky. I want to check to make sure I am doing things right. So here is my process.
    In Motion, click export.
    Export: Quicktime Movie
    Use: Lossless + Alpha
    Include: Video & Audio
    Options:
    Quicktime
    Codec: Animation
    Quality:100
    Output:
    Resolution: Full
    Color: Color + Alpha
    Render Quality: Best
    Frame Blending checked.
Once that is outputted, I use Adobe Media Encoder CS3 to encode it into a Flash. Settings:
    Video codec: On2 VP6
    Encode Alpha Channel checked
    Deinterlace checked
    Quality: High
Max Bit Rate: I have tried 1000 up to 6000
    Audio: 192
    No cropping or resizing.
When I open the .flv in Flash CS3 and preview it. It plays slowly and choppy.
Any suggestions? I really appreciate the time!
    Thanks,
    John Schenkel

Don't export out of FCP at all then. Just open the color corrected-rendered-exported-as-native clips in Motion. Apply your keying and matting. You will export the processed clips out of Motion using ProRes4444, RGB+alpha.
There is no tangible gain trying to process individual, trimmed shots. If you apply the color correction to each scene, you will have a long clip that can be edited-cut-trimmed just like the raw clip, just be sure to keep the audio unless you're confident in marrying the tracks. That's just my preferred method.
If you have already trimmed your scenes (the clips that go from start to stop) into individual shots, you can assemble them into a sequence, maybe add some black between them, nest the sequence, and apply one color correction to the whole sequence. This, of course, is useless if you're already locked into or tied to timecoded edits.
All of this advice is based on my theory that complicating anything in FCP unnecessarily is not just asking for trouble, it practically assures disaster.

  • Bad looking text going from Motion to Flash

I'm creating a project in Motion which the client wants to play in Flash.
My work flow is 1) Export from Motion (uncompressed+animation codec) 2) Open in Quicktime 3) Export to .FLV using the Flash encoder (highest Quality)
Everything looks fine but I have red text on a white background and it is dithering horribly.
    Any suggestions are appreciated--
    Thanks

    hi,
two things really, flash can look really horrible depending on the data rate you've used to create it. So you could try upping that until things look crisper. Obviously then you get bigger files.
Also red text on a white background is notorious in video for looking crap. Personally I would try any one or all of the following:
change the colour of the font/ and or the background.
change the font, and its size.
    change everything.
or and another thing, why export out to to a quicktime from motion. Why not use compressor from motion to create the .flv. I assume you have flash and all the codecs since you are making the .flvs already.
( on a related note - recently I have had a problem where files created from motion via compressor change fonts - however if i drag the motion file into fcp and export via compressor there its all fine - weird)
