Motion temporarily freezes when trying to scrub the timeline

Hey guys,
Having a couple of probs... firstly when I'm working in motion and I click up the top of the timeline to scrub through the video there is a delay of about 30 seconds before my computer responds. I'm running Motion 3.0.2 on a MacBook Pro. The timeline consists of a photoshop background, a photoshop foreground and a 3 minute music track. Any help on this would be great.
Another thing that's happening and I'm not sure if they're related problems but the timeline will be playing back and then I try to click stop or anything in Motion and yet it continues to play. Same deal - about 30 seconds before I am able to control the timeline again. This also happens on my Dual 2Ghz G5.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Phil

can't say that I agree that it's a graphics card limitation
You're a lucky guy to have that kind of muscle that runs on batteries. My mistake, I can see that now, thanks for clearing that up for me, won't forget it.
I'm not using my G5 to do this either - it's my MacBook Pro.
Your first post says "this" happens on both systems. Here, I shall quote it for you to save you the trouble of denying it and forcing me to call you silly names:
Same deal - about 30 seconds before I am able to control the timeline again. This also happens on my Dual 2Ghz G5.
must be something else.
Yes, silly of me to try to debug this for you when I'm here and you're there. Too bad I can't really see what you're doing, isn't it? All I can do is tell you what I know from several years of struggling with Motion and reading hundreds of threads from hundreds of Motion users whose machines neither meet their expectations nor the promises of some sales dweeb. You can read them, too, just initiate a search of the forum for "slow as snot a cold doorknob." Motion's demands on system resources are weirdly nonlinear. I've seen posts complaining about glacial behavior on a wide variety of machines that make your setup and mine look truly pathetic.
It's merely two graphics layers and a text layer (which isn't animated). The only thing I'm animating is a bouncing logo across the screen.
Hmm, that's interesting, but "merely" may mean one thing to you and quite another to your machine. I was going to ask many relevant questions about these layers of yours but, heck, you don't need to tell me anything you don't want to.
When it crashes it comes up with a message saying that it's a plugin that's causing the crash (even though I've got no 3rd party plugins installed). The problem is also intermittent.
A "crash," you say? That's dreadful. Is this new? You didn't mention a crash in your first post. Here, I'll quote it for you:

Yep. A bit inconclusive and even you'd have to admit your explanation is clear as mud. You didn't say much at all that could actually be of any value in tracking down your problem from where I sit. but you can always start with the easy stuff. it's often a good place to start, being easy and all. Try turning off one layer at a time and see...-- oh, nevermind, I've already made that suggestion but you knew you didn't need to try it. Perceptive and shows a deep connection with your system. I bow.
I've exhausted all of my experience, Phil, and I can't write biting sarcasm like this all night, too old. So it's up to you. Make a long list of all the things you know it's not and you'll be left with what it is.
Hope you get it figured out. When you do, please let us know what it was and how you fixed it.

Afraid Compressor won't work with MKV. If you have access to a system running an earlier version than Mavericks, and with Perian installed you can use MPEG Streamclip or Quick Time Pro to convert to a mov.

  • Visual Studio 2013 hangs/freezes when trying to click the designer view

my Visual Studio 2013 update 1 hangs/freezes when trying to click the designer view, after clicking "Design" I can not click "split" neather "Source". What can I do ? I already tried to set the "HTML (Web Forms) Editor
" as "Default"... thanks for support.
In VS2010 the same worked fine.
    I "Run as Administrator".
    ty for help

    Hi,
I assume that you are not using VS2013 Express version. In order to get the reason about the hang issue, please use devenv /log to gather activity.xm log and find HR error from this log.If it shows some package corrupt, try to repair your VS.
    Here are my general suggestions:
Please try to run devenv /ResetSettings (in command prompt) to eliminate the related potential settings problem.
Try disabling Add-ins (e.g. “Tools” | “Add-in Manager”) or run “devenv.exe /SafeMode”.This can eliminate the possibility that third party Add-ins or packages are causing problems. Also you can try these command lines:
    devenv.exe /resetskippkgs and devenv.exe /resetuserdata
Try to create a new user account. This can help isolate user profile corruption related causes.
If the suggestions above are no help, please reinstall your VS.

  • System preferences freezes when trying to change the date

    Hey guys,
I've got a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4.1. I'm having a problem with trying to change the time/date settings. Either going through the system preferences window or accessing it through clicking the clock in the top right and then 'open date & time', I get the spinning wheel and System Preferences crashes. Any ideas why?
    Regards,
    Phil

You are probably running 10.4.10 in as much as the MacBook pro's came out well after 10.4.1 was released. In any case try deleting the file com.apple.systempreferences.plist in your user/library/preferences folder.

  • Firefox will not load . it just freezes when trying to upload the homepage

Its ask do you want to set Firefox as a default browser and I choose when. Its freezes then and when I try to close it asks me to do I want to send an error report. I have been using for at least a couple of years. Internet Explorer works for me.

    Hello.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • My iphoto freezes when trying to use the standard eBay photo upload, the problem started after a recent iOS 7 update. The album photos don't appear until I try and close the upload and immediately freezes. Attempts to close iphoto fail.

A week or so ago I reacted to an Apple update message. The update completed and this left me with a couple of problems. When the imac started up there was a Glims message on screen telling me that the computer had not closed entirely and asking if I wanted to allow glims to reopen previously open files. I ticked yes and Safari froze immediately. This would happen even after a restart, Safari would start up with the Glims message on my Yahoo mail account. Then whether I clicked on the Glims message or not one of various adverts would appear and Safari would immediately freeze. I managed to override this by quickly entering Safari extensions and subscribing to an advertisement blocking programme. Safari now worked without problems but the blocking programme created other problems mostly with iphoto. The eBay uploaded photos were minute. So I decided to remove the Safari blocking extension and all seemed fine for everything except iphoto which now freezes every time I try to upload eBay photo's using the eBay standard upload problem. Yesterday I changed to the other BASIC upload option and that did work. Thought it might be a one of glitch on the Standard but obviously not. Anyone's help would be appreciated. I note that at least one other member is experiencing the same or similar problem today.

Sorry I am 70 and not very computer literate. Please explain in simpler terms. Perhaps I should have said Apple update for my iMac. It did however include an iphoto update. My imac is 3 years old, I also have an ipad 2 and iPhone and both received iOS 7 updates around the same time.

  • CS 3 Bridge crashes / freezes when trying to run the slideshow feature

A while back I deactivated Photoshop CS3 that was installed on my laptop. Then this past week I went to reinstall it again. One thing I noticed was that the PS-CS3 and Bridge Icons were still residing on my desktop. I went into the "add/remove programs" and sure enough there was PS-CS3 sitting there. So I tried to do an uninstall first. When I clicked the tab to do a remove program it just sat there. I contacted Adobe Tech support and they sent me the script to to an uninstall. It worked, the Icons went away and so I proceded to do a new install. I entered the serial numbers and activated it and all seemed well. Then I went into the Bridge, everything seemed ok there too. I was able to use the RAW converter, view thumbnails and the rest. Then I went to a specific folder where I had some files that were converted to JPEG to run the slideshow feature. That is when Bridge hung up and a few seconds later it closed the preview window that had opened for the slideshow preview.
Does this have something to do with the amount of RAM on my laptop? Or maybe the cache? I ask because I had never needed to use the slideshow feature until now and everthing seemed ok even prior to uninstalling and reinstalling.
I have 1 gig or ram... the hard drive is 350 gigabytes and there is a ton of room still available. The processor is ok. Oh also, I have Lightroom 2 installed on this machine too and it's slideshow feature runs fine. But I would prefer to use the slideshow feature in bridge.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

    Copy the jdev_home/jlib/redist/uix2_install.zip file to
jdev_home/jdev/redist folder . It will overwrite an existing uix2_install.zip file.
Close and open the Jdeveloper IDE. It will prompt you for upgradation of projects. Press OK button in response.
Now you should be able to run the JSP pages.

  • Running snow leopard and cs3 works great but freezes when trying to save the photo.

I am running CS3 on snow leopard, I can edit photos great but when all is said and done...... the wheel spins continuously after selecting either save.... or save as..... and the application quits responding. it keeps spinning?
I am at a loss. Can't afford the upgrade right now. what can i do?

Could be an issue with file dialogs or volume identifiers. That stuff has changed a lot in recent versions of OSX due to its kernel going 64bit native. You might need to limit yourself to specific volume names and only use the classic file dialog view. Similalrly, this could relate to Library folders being invisible by default on 10.7 and the program trying to access what it assumes to be the default Documents folder...

  • Computer freezes when trying to reload the OS from the HP recovery disks.

I have an HP Media Center m8300f desktop pc. My hard drive crash and I had to replace it. Since the recovery software was on the hard drive I had to order the recovery disks from HP. Have checked with HP and they are the correct disks for my system. The problem that I am having is this...during the recovery process everything loads from the 2 disks...the next step is to reboot the computer to complete the recovery process. During this part of the process the program is apparently creating the recovery partition on the new hard drive. The screen goes to the icons of files moving from one folder to the other so I'm assuming that it has created the partition and is dowloading the files for the recovery partition. During the process, it just locks up and halts. If i reboot the computer it says the BOOTMGR is missing and will not load windows. I've gone through the process many times and it continually halts at the same point in the process. Any ideas on whats going on and how to get past it?

i am having some success with my touch now by right clicking on the itunes icon and selecting, troubleshoot compatibility, troubleshoot program, program worked on earlier versions, then select, win vista service pack2. this is probably not a permenant fix but for the time being it seems to work. hope you have some joy with your setup. • Loading the latest OS on my iPhone4 caused the phone to freeze. I get error message 4013 when trying to restore the phone. Any help will be appreciated

Loading the latest OS on my Iphone 4 caused the phone to freeze and stop working. I get error message 4013 when trying to restore the phone.

Did you already try these suggestions?
    Check USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

Hi - my Apple Mail freezes when trying to IMAP sync Apple To Do Items folder. This only started after Leopard 10.5.2.
A copy of my console log is shown below. Looks like there is some calendar with a nil UID -- and the program has a bug that it can't handle this.

It looks as if you've the problem discussed in this -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0 (and other) threads.
Basically the soldering on your GPU is defective and the GPU probably needs to be reballed: if you take it to Apple they will just want to replace the logic board. If you're still under AppleCare, or if they will replace it gratis, that may fix your problem temporarily. A reball may also be temporary, but it's less expensive and there are repair centers that offer up to a one-year warranty: much better than Apple's 90-day warranty.
Have a look at the thread above: no need to read it all - just give it a glance and leave a message there if you wish.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
