Motion Tracking - Match Move

It's yet not possible to send a clip from FCPX timeline directly to Motion 5.
If I want to use "Analyze Motion" and "Match Move" everything must be done manually, what is a pain in the ???.
No workflow at all.
Does someone has a workaround, if I want e.g. to make a Title "Match Move" to a previously "Analyzed Motion" of a clip directly from FCPX's timeline?

Thanks, I did set the "Render" to "Best", hit Analyze again, saved the file, went back to my FCP project which contained the file/clip, had to render again.....but got the same results, might be a touch improved, can't really tell. Maybe I'll start over and just cover the entire flat screen tv w/ the video to ensure that none of the white image from the tv seeps around the edges??

  • Motion Tracking - Match Move, getting messy edges around superimposed video

    (Motion 3.0.2)
I'm using the "Match Motion" menu option under "Motion Tracking" - "Add Behavior" to superimpose a video over a flat screen in the shot. This is working great except for one issue. Around the edges of the super imposed video there is a flickering light that persists. NOTE: The flat screen does display a basic white graphic on it and initially it seemed as though this was leaking through. However, I'm not convinced this is the case as I've stretched the four corners well beyond the underlying white screen and the problem persists.
Pretty sure I went through the proper steps, i.e analyze etc. and the superimposed video does play fine, just the edges are not very clean.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • Beginners Q: Motion tracking - Cannot move trackpoint

    Hi all,
this seems to be simple:  start motion tracking, move your trackpoint to the correct place that needs to be tracked.
Problem:  I see the trackpoint, but cannot move it to its place.
The only way to do that, is to close AE, reopen AE & reopen the project, and continu moving the trackpoint.
This is only possible to do so for a few frames, then the trackpoint is fixed again, and moving is not possible anymore.
This topic seems not to be found on the internet, so I suspect a bug maybe.
Please help, it's driving me nuts...
    any help is welcome...

The more I mess around with it, the more I see the proof I need to restart AE to continue follow the same actions as in tutors over the net.
VERY often, I cannot move object with the mouse cursor like text objects for instance.
Is there anything I can do??

    Hi thx for replying,
If I remember well, the error message was a general OpenGl one.
I did have the error message not that often unfortunately.

  • Motion tracking: matching two tracked elements

    Hi all,
In slightly over my head... searched high and low... but I am stuck.
I have two video elements in a composition, both VERY similar, but they don't track perfectly.
What I tried to do was taking the tracking data from one element, and subtracting the tracking from the second element in expressions (to get a delta), and then apply the difference to the anchor point of the element.  This did not work... as I expected.
I have two good tracks, but I can't figure out how to get these tracks to work together (they are tracking the exact same point) to match them.  Is this a match move problem?
    Please help.  Thank you.

    Thank you Mathias,
I can't stabalize because the shots both pan.
Imagine a dolly shot... moving smoothly though a scene.  That is shot A
Imagine a second dolly shot, on the same track, of the same scene.  That is shot B
Imagine that the dolly operator could not perfectly dolly the camera for each shot (how could they?).
    But they are close.
I can pick the exact same track point on the dolly shot... so that gives me data on each dolly shot.
As you can see, there is nothing to stabalize.  Both shots are stable... they just track differently, slightly.
I am not using mocha.... this is a perfect 2D track situation.
I tried vector subtraction in expressions, subtracting tracker A from tracker B... that number should be the difference between the dolly shots, yes?
Now, if I use THAT number to offset one of the shots... that should cause them to realign, yes?
    I feel I am close...
I am using the sub(v1,v2) expressions function.
This is probably simple, I'm just being thick headed about it somehow.

  • Motion 4: Match Move (additional question...)

This is a bit of an extension to my previous question...
I am matching the camera position to the move of an object (already did that) but then once it get's to a certain point, I want the camera to stop and then have the object keep on going (in this case, out of the frame)...
Is this possible? Once the behavior ends, the camera goes back to it's original spot....
The Hold Frame in the Retiming Behavior panel doesn't work....
Anyhow, any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Well I "hacked it"...
I duplicated the object... butted it right next to it's twin, then keyed the opacity from 100 and 0 to the next frame, the duplicate kept on going....
However if there is a better way, it would be nice to know...

  • Shake vs. Motion for Keying and Motion Tracking? Also, best way to learn?

    Hello,
I have been working in the Final Cut Studio Suite for a little while and have gotten pretty good at getting visual effects out of Motion.
However, Shake has always looked very interesting to me and from what I understand, is much more powerful than Motion.
Two effects I am most often involved with are:
    1. keying out greenscreen
    2. analyzing motion to match-move elements of a composite
Can anyone vouch for how much better Shake is at doing these processes over Motion and After Effects?
If I do decide to get Shake, I know I'll have to spend a while getting used to just moving around in it - node-based workflow is TOTALLY new to me.
Are there any good learning resources that Shake gurus here can recommend? I've always learned better from CDs and DVDs than books, but I would consider picking up a book to learn from if it were REALLY good.

Shake is far more powerful and flexible than Motion in both of these tasks. It offers considerably more control over the end result, albeit at the expense of a learning curve.
I mainly learned from books so I would recommend the tutorial book that comes inside the box as well as this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Shake-4/dp/0321256093
I've also got a couple of Gnomon DVDs as well, which I found helpful:

  • Motion 3 - Motion Tracking and Match Move

Hi, I have no problem learning how to use motion tracking or match move because there's plenty of tutorials online. My question is, if let's say i motion tracked a clip to my original clip and half way through the movie an obstacle comes into the position where my motion tracked clip is. How do i make is so the obstacle appears in front of the motion tracked clip?
For example, take apple's motion 3 sample video.

The place where they put the GPS clip, if while the girl is driving she moves her hand in front of the GPS. How would we make it so that her hand appears in front of the GPS not behind it?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thank you

If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are asking how to have an object that is part of the background layer appear in front of an object that you are going to composite in an match-move.
The only way to do that is to duplicate the background layer and move it in front of the layer you are bringing in, then create a mask around the portion of layer you want to keep (in the example you provide - the girl's hand).
You would have to go frame-by-frame and animate the mask to follow her hand - very time consuming but I don't see any other way.

  • Motion 3 and animating vector files using match move

I'm having trouble animating a vector file using MatchMove. The problem is the vector file (Ai file exported as PDF and imported into Motion3) becomes rasterized when is moves. I have Fixed resolution unchecked and i changed the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC from Square. Nothing seems to help. I even recreated the vectore file in Motion using the bezier tool and got the same results. What am I doing wrong on this?

Could you post the project with your Motion shape? I don't have a problem using the Match Move behavior with vector graphics.
Is the vector graphic in it's own group? Does that group have a box around the status icon in the name? If it does, then the group is being rasterized for some reason.
You can look through the groups parameters to find the one that has a blue dot next to it. This will be the parameter causing the rasterization.
That's the only thing I can think of right now that could be causing your problem.

  • MOTION 4: Can one key the camera with a Match Move behavior applied?

I have the camera with a match move applied from a group with movement, but while that group is moving, I would like the camera to be able to zoom in on the object, but I can't.
I seem to remember doing this before, but perhaps I just imagined that, lol...
Anyhow, I am able to add the zoom behavior, but it just zooms in indiscriminately, and I need to zoom into a specific part.
    Any ideas?

    Hi gents,
First of all thanks for your input!
I've found the solution for my missing 3D camera icon.
When I'm in (3D) perspective mode I found out that per default Motion doesn't show the camera icon.
I've to zoom out of the 3D scene to actually see this camera icon. As per default the view is inside from a gigantic camera, which is only visible when I zoom out.
Furthermore I understand that I can animate the camera via it's own transform properties. But I was just wondering where the camera move behavior as used in the templates with comes with Motion 3 came from.
Thanks and have fun over there!

  • "Match Move" & "Analyze Motion"?

    Hey,
I recently watched a short video podcast by "izzy Video",
where he demonstrated how to easily setup a motion path following
an object then applying a particle emitter to the motion path.
It looked kind of cool so I thought I would try it,and...
now here's where I really feel stupid for even posting this question,
but I can't find "match move" or "analyze motiion" anywhere on my
motiion software. I tried looking through my tutorials and help menus,
and I still am having no luck.
I am presently using Motion 2.1.2.
Is "match move something found in Motion 3,
or what am I doing wrong?
Sorry for such a basic question, and I feel really dumb
for even asking, but I don't know where else to ask.
I've read through the Apple Training book on Motion and
watched some video tutrials on Motion,
but I am still having some trouble getting comfortable with the program.
    Thanx for the help,

  • Adding motion tracked effects to a complete movie/sequence, on multiple subjects throughout the timeline

    Hi all,
I am completely new to After Effects and have just completed my first 15 minute movie in Premier Pro (CS5). This movie is very important to me and encroaching a deadline. I wouldn't reach out with such a beginner question otherwise, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Problem -
I have an exported 15 minute .mov file created in Premier Pro.
I want to apply a liquify effect to a moving target - eg. a person for only parts of the movie.
I can successfully motion track and apply the effect, however when the scene changes within the clip and the person leaves the frame, the motion track continues and the effect is applied throughout the remainder of the footage on everything else that comes into view.
I want the motion track to stop once the body is out of the frame, and then to begin a new motion track later when the body reappears, or when I want to apply an effect to a different object along the timeline.
    Have Tried -
Importing my Premier Pro project into After Effects.
Result - The motion track stays on screen from clip to clip, throughout entire sequence
Copy and pasting a short clip in order to add an effect only to the single target.
Result - The motion tracking is greyed out, and if I double click on the clip, it takes me to the entire piece of footage it's cut from, which bring me back to my original problem
Please let me know (from the very basic starting point) how you would do this? Is there any way to stop and start the motion track linearly along the timeline in different positions, and apply different effects?
    Thank you in advance.
    Ally

Todd's right; without a basic understanding, it's going to be hard to help you.
    However, I can try.
Instead of bringing your whole video into AE. Just copy the clip in Premiere that needs the effect and paste it into a composition in AE. Trim your composition so it's just that clip. Follow whatever tutorial you followed to get your effect done (I'm assuming the Demon Face Warp from VCP) and render your video out of AE. Then simply plop that clip over the original clip in your Premiere timeline.
But seriously, you will save yourself much hassle if you go through all the resources Todd linked to. AE is a pretty powerful and complicated program. It's not something you can learn in a day, so charging forward into it will only cause frustration.

  • How to match sound track to movie pictures? (the sound track is shorter)

I have a sound (narrative) track of approx 1 hr which talks about the movie film. However the film I have, is a slightly different version, that is about 10 min longer then the sound track and I would like to restore the match, e.g. by something like cutting the sound track and inserting blanks, or cutting and moving the sound a couple of seconds. Note I'm totally new to Premiere V 10. I presume I would have to use start and end marks in the sound track and place the subsequent sound parts on a new sound (or narrative?) track (but it seems I will need to introduce additional silent parts, I cannot just move (drag?) the next sound track a couple of seconds to the left.
I would guess there are a couple of easy tricks to achieve my goal.
    Thank you in advice.
    Rob Tausk

Well well: not easy nor trivial at all, but I haven’t given up as yet! I’ll describe my workflow below.
    1.       Play video fragment, and comparing film picture and sound estimate position where I need to introduce a silent period and it length.
    2.       By double click play sound “comment track” on the monitor and set end stop (I would actually prefer if the sound track could be zoomed to more easily/accurately find best position)
    3.       Play mute sound clip in preview and set time length with end stop and close preview
    4.       Move mute clip to comment track, which has been shortened in step 2
    5.       Play main sound clip in Preview and set start point
    6.       Move this sound clip to comment track.
But sometime things go slightly wrong, e.g. when moving mute or sound fragment to “comment track” I find that the video track cuts (not intended)
Another difficulty I still need to master is related to the phenomena you mentioned before, related to moving sound clips, parts which were before the starting point show up (e.g. drag edges).
I hope you can roughly follow my explanatory story (I realise writing such workflow is difficult and critically depends on the same use of words concepts definitions and jargon (note my Adobe Premiere Elements is in Dutch).
I’d much appreciate your comments (maybe another software would be friendly to the inexperienced senior citizen)

  • Motion 4: Motion tracking a moving mask

I'm making a video for our church which is a knockoff of the E-Trade babies commercials. I have a segment of it done which you can see here using the password "jaymack":
    http://www.vimeo.com/26897268
As you can see, I'm dealing with both a moving baby as well as a moving adult.  To do this, I make a bezier mask around the adult's lips (actually the beard also in the example shown). Then I Analyze Motion using the baby's nostrils, and Match Move the masked adult lips to the desired location.
It worked fine on the first two that I did. I only arranged the mask control points (the red dots) every few frames, and had no problem.
But the third adult had a bit more side to side movement of their head. So instead of just grabbing the red points on the mask, sometimes I grabbed the entire mask (the white rectangle surrounding my red mask) and dragged it along with appropriate keyframes.
Now the lips properly track until it hits a point where I moved the white rectangle, where it goes off target. (It's still the adult mouth, but the adult mouth has slid up to the baby's cheek.) Is there any way of correcting this, short of only dragging control points throughout the keyframing process?

Re-shoot and have the actor do it right...
    OR
I'm thinking playing around with the stabilize behavior...
OR perhaps if you analyze motion on the head the moves too much, then make a shape and set the match move to the shape... I don't know, I've not done that before so I'm just thinking out loud...
The other thing you could do if the above don't work, make some guides to mark the first position of the mouth... hit A key (record) then about every 10 frames  drag the image so the mouth falls on the guides... then go in and fine tune.
