MOTION TRACKING PROBLEM IN ADJUSTMENT LAYER

Hi.
I'm trying to blur out a logo on a shoe, but I'm having some difficulty getting the tracker to stick to the logo.  Can someone help me, please.  Here are the steps I took:
1.  I used Tracker to track a logo that I want to blur out.
2.  After analyzing the layer, I went back to check the attach point frame by frame  The attach point is centred perfectly on the logo on every frame.
3.  Then, I added an adjustment layer, and used the pick whip to ensure that the position of the adjustment layer is the same as the attach point position from the tracker.
4.  On the adjustment layer, I created an ellipse mask, applied a gaussian blur.  But when I do playback, the ellipse mask is all over the place and not sticking to the logo.
Does anyone have an idea as to what I'm doing wrong?  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks, in advance.

To start off I always apply tracking data to a null then parent the null to the layers that should follow the track.
Make sure that you have picked the right target. Make sure that you've picked the right options. You should be using Transform as the track type. You should also do a quick Google search. There are a bunch of tracking tutorials out there.
If your null follows the object then you can parent the adjustment layer to the null. That should do it.

  • Exclude Track(s) from Adjustment Layer

    Hi everybody,
I use Premiere Elements for many years and am now testing Premiere Pro in order to make the descision wether to change to pro or not.
So I trying out several things and have mor than one question
1.: I'm wondering if there's a method to bind an adjustment layer to specific tracks and not too ALL track below it.
Problem: Using green screen footage and make the keying in the adjustment layer (because the footage changes with each project, but the keying settings are always the same - so an adjustment layer is great to keep the settings) means that the effects of the adjustment layer go down even to the track with the background footage that I want to insert. So I'm looking for a method to let the adjustment layer know an which track(s) it has to work on ... and to which it shouldn't.
    Is this possible? and how?
2.: In Premiere Elements I loved the easy way to insert a fade-in or fade-out to video and audio tracks witch just a right click onto the clip in the Timeline and then choose "Add Transition" with the options "Audio fade-in", "Audio fade-out", "Video fade-in", "Video fade-out" that added the preset length for transitions to the clip. Tool me about a second.
In Premiere Pro I don't find this feature in the right click options list. So, do I really have to add each fade-in and fade-out manually by using the effects options and setting the keyframes manually to 0 and 100? Seems odd that Pro is less clever than Elements ...
Or how do I do that in Pro?
3.: In the "Export Media" window I have trouble with the setting of what will be rendered, meaning that litte dropdown list with "all" or "workspace" - I hope you know what I mean?
Problem: This settings always jumps back to "workspace", even if I used "all" last time. And "all" is the way I'm rendering my projects in 99%. So I'm wondering where I can change the preset of this option to "all".
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Lutz

Thanks @Ann Bens for your reply!
1.: "save settings as preset" sounds great, in that case I guess I really wouldn't need any adjustment layer (which keys at least in my case great). And please keep in mind that I do not user 1 key only, but a combination of at least 3: can I define this combination as a preset, too? How? I just found a righ-click on the effect and then "save preset", I guess that's what you mean - but I couldn not make it work for a group of effects (keys) ...
2.: Right! And I found out how to change the default transition and the shortkey for bringing it to the clip, works great
3.: That's odd ... at least for the way I'm working. Is there no way to set the Export Tool to "all" as a new default? Because I need the Work Area Bar in the Timeline, too, but when rendering, I need all in 99% ... but am afraid I could forget to change the setting from WAB to "all". I didn't expect a professional and long developed software not to have settings for such an important option! Is there really now way?
    Kind regards,
    Lutz

  • Problem: curve adjustment layer in cs4

Ive upgraded to CS4 and I have found that the curves Adjustment layer runs slow and sticky and Its difficult to make fine adjustments. (the regular curves window works fine but you cant save it as an adjustment layer) I am running 10.5.6 on a 2x3 GHz Dual-core intel with 9gb of ram, a scratch disk of raid 0 with 500gb of freespace. This should not be a problem for my machine. is there a setting I am missing or is CS4 no good?

I understand your annoyance about this. I didn't say it doesn't work, it does.
"fine, critical moves that are intuitive and subtle" that's the problem with the new adjustments panel, it is more difficult to make these fine adjustments, still possible just less responsive. You can still bring up the old dialog.
Did you do a search to find my explanation of how to use CS3 to create Actions that will bring up the modal dialog? I'm not going to take the time to explain it again, if you haven't done this. There is also a Configurator panel that John Knack posted has two buttons 'create new curve' and 'edit existing curve'. Configurator is a new app that Adobe have introduced. • Motion Tracking Problem

Hi im am very new to After Effects Cs4 and i am trying to do some simple motion tracking on some of my videos. When i try to place my track points on a high contrast spot and the click anylize my track does not stay in place and just pounces around the video. I have tried everything to fix this but just cant figure it out. If any one can help please leave a responce.
    Thank You.

In CS4 a version of Mocha AE is already included. I would prefer this, if the
AE tracker fails on your shot.
Here are some video tutorials to get startet:

Also, I highly recommend to use Mocha in combination with my MochaImport tool.

  • Motion tracking issues

I am doing a rather difficult (for a beginner) sky replacement on a panning shot.
My first issue regards rotation. I've selected position and rotation for my tracking points, but after applying them to my sky layer, it becomes flipped upside down (rotated 190 degrees) and also out of position. Correcting the position is as easy as selecting all the position keyframes and dragging it to the correct starting point, but for rotation this doesn't work (it sets everything to one value). I want the first keyframe to be 0 degrees and for it to follow on from there with the tracking.
Secondly, because the camera pans quite far, I need to change the tracking points midway through as there are no two points I can use that are in the entire shot. Similar to the first problem, I find that when I do this it resets the position of the sky layer, sending it out of place and upside-down. I guess what I'm looking for is a way to apply the motion tracking to the sky layer without losing its initial position or rotation (or any other value for that matter).
    Thanks!

Thanks a lot, I do have mocha but have never used it as I'm still in the early learning stage of AE. I'll watch through a couple mocha tutorials though and see where that gets me.
Regarding the matte, I was intending not to use one as there is so much foliage detail it seemed impossible to key the sky out effectively. Instead I was just going to multiply the sky layer and apply a gradient. I've attached screenshots showing the start and end of the shot, before and after I've done my best on it. If you know a better way I can do it, I'd be very grateful.
    Cheers.

  • Unable to create a mask on Adjustment layer

    hi.
I want to apply motion tracking data to a mask, therefore i'm trying to utilize an adjustment layer to control the mask position. So i tracked motion on a video footage, applied tracking data to Adjustment layer, then marked the Adjustment layer and drew a closed mask on it. However, when i finish the mask, it does not "cut the hole" on the video footage (which is right below the Adjustment layer). Tried all the available modes (Add, Subtract, Intersect, etc.) but only the outlines of the mask's shape are visible on the video footage.
How can i apply a mask to an adjustment layer? Or maybe there are other methods to apply motion tracking data to a mask?
    thank you

I think that you're misunderstanding how masks on adjustment layers are supposed to work. If you draw a mask on an adjustment layer, you are restricting the area within which the effects on the adjustment layer apply; it does not, as you say "cut a hole in the video footage". If you want to "cut a hole in the video footage", then you make the mask on the footage layer, not the adjustment layer.

  • Problem with motion tracking

I have Premiere Elements 12 64 bit on a windows 8 machine. I am trying to use the motion tracking feature. I am able to select an object to track and the resulting yellow rectangle follows the object as it moves through the scene. The problem I have occurs when I try to attach a graphic to the item being tracked; the graphic will not anchor itself to the yellow rectangle when dragged onto it, the rectangle does not turn blue. It appears the graphic is added as a static layer and does not follow the object. I have tried it using various video formats with the same result.

Thanks for the demo. Very helpful.
I am still not sure if it is the lack of contrast that is not giving you the best results. I tried to use a model with a light gray object to be tracked against a light blue background. Or, if it is those speech bubbles in contrast to other graphic types that are creating problems.
But, it is more than that. You did not see that yellow/orange box turn blue when you approached it with the speech bubble.
I found essentially one on one tracking when I used other than speech bubbles. But, whether speech bubbles or not, my yellow/orange box turned blue with the approach of the speech bubble or other graphic.
Here is what I would like you to try
    a. Repeat what you did, but do not use the speech bubble. Use one of the other graphics under Graphics, maybe the carrot.
    b. Repeat what you did , but use as source an object with more contrast against its background.
The main thing we have to work on is getting the yellow/orange to blue change as an indicator of what is supposed to be happening. Also, just back tracking to correct is not enough. If a try does not work, start with newly imported files to avoid any unexpected variables until we work out the situation.
    Thanks.

  • Help with linking a layer to motion tracked video

Not sure of the best way to describe this. I have a video with shadow in it which only moves slightly when camera pans a little.
Ive created a static image and removed the shadow in photoshop although could have probably done that using the clone stamp in AE.
However, the problem I have is that when the photoshop image is imported and I create the mask around the image where my shadow is on the video, the image is not tracked or linked to the video... How do I link it to the motion tracked video so that it moves with the video ?

    Hiya
Yeah one below.. What you will see is the photoshop file, then the null layer followed by the original footage. In effect I need the photoshop image to track the movement of the camera as when I currently play the video, when the camera moves it looks as though a chunk of grass (the mask) is moving different from the rest of the scene.

  • Is there a way to motion track a point in a shape layer?

    Hi all,
Is there a way to motion track a point in a shape layer?
    Thanks

As Mylenium points out, you can't to it directly.  But if you're willing to jump through a hoop, you can: Precomp that shape layer!
Now AE will see it as another piece of footage, which can be motion tracked.  You can use Mocha or AE built-in motion tracker, depending on the nature of your precomp.
Alternately, you can simply parent a null object to the shape layer.  After you do so, you can adjust the null's position, positioning it precisely where you want it to be in relationship to the shape layer.  It will then maintain that relative position, following right along with any animation applied to the shape layer.

  • Motion Tracking Jitter Problem

Using CS3, I am basically trying to replace facial features on individuals in some footage that I have. (replacing mouths, eyes, etc) I have been through numerous tutorials on motion tracking and have it down pretty well. I am tracking motion for both position and rotation, and the motion trackers are pretty dead on. However, after I apply the motion tracking and attempt to to pick whip other layers to this (I have tried numerous ways, nulls, directly to the tracked footage layer, etc...) it is very jittery, it follows the motion trackers just fine, but is very jittery...
I have found a few other with this problem, but no solutions were found. The only solution that I found was a suggestion to Average the null with a long expression that I had no idea how it worked. It there a quick fix for this? My whole 3 minute video is relying on motion tracking and parenting layers to the original footage... PLEASE HELP
also, would Mocha be worth getting, would it solve this issue?

Here's a post that links to some resources for face replacement using motion tracking.
If your only problem is that the motion isn't smooth enough, and you want to remove some of the detail in the motion, you can use the Smoother or the smooth expression method.

  • Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer problems

I posted earlier about having problems printing with new color laser printer and colors printing wrong.  It is not the printer, the printer prints perfect color from what I see on my screen (calibrated).    Have narrowed it down to a hue/saturation adjustment layer.  When I  open and print a scrapbook paper (brownish color jpg) with out doing anything to it,   it prints perfect color.   When I add an hue/saturation adjustment layer  (to change the color to blue)  then it won't print the right  color.  I have  checked "colorize" and unchecked "colorize" when adding  an adjustment  layer.  I have tried flattening the image and merging the layers before printing. I have unclipped the adjustment layer to the layer below.      It prints the wrong colors only when I add a hue/saturation layer
What am I missing?  This is driving me absolutely crazy!!!
    Thanks!

You could try Layer - Flatten just for the moment of printing (don't forget to undo it afterward).
Seems too basic a problem, though...  I more strongly suspect a color management problem.
Is there a difference in the way you're opening the file that prints well vs. the one that's a problem?  Or is this one and the same file?
    What is your document profile?
What do you have set in the Photoshop print dialog for color management?
What do you have set in the printer driver for color management?

  • Adjustment Layer problem (Premier Pro CC)

Whenever I add an adjustment layer on the top of a video and apply any effect to it, I don't see any created effect from the adjustment layer. The only way to fix this is to restart PP and the effect will be visible. But this is just annoying.
    Thanks any advance.

    Windows 7 on latest updates
Premier Pro CC on latest updates (v7.2.2)
I use GTX 780 (unclocked) but my CPU (i7 2600k) is overclocked (4.6ghz)
    16gb RAM (overclocked)
All of my other PC stuff are installed on latest drivers too

  • Changing opacity in an adjustment layer to affect just one video track

    Premiere Pro CS6
    Hi,
I have a sequence of images in one video track that creates an animation and I've added an ultra key effect to remove the background of every image one by one (not sure if there was a better way to do this but anyway). Now I want to introduce this animation slowly with an opacity change but I can't seem to make it work. I've tried adding an adjustment layer and changing the opacity but this didn't work, I only want to change the opacity of this animation, not the other video track as well. So then I added a transform effect to the adjustment layer. I adjusted the opacity within this transform effect in this adjustment layer but I can't seem to make this work well either.
I've tried exporting the animation as a separate file so that I can bring it back to my project as one clip, but I'm a bit lost as to what kind of file to export it to. I tried an AAF file but that didn't load into my main project at all well and I had to force PPro to close.
    Thanks.

Make your animation in its own sequence.
Then bring that sequence into the EDIT SEQUENCE.  ( a Nest)

  • Track motion not working with Shape layer

Track motion works fine with a text layer but does not seem to work with a shape layer. Am I doing something wrong?

Here's what I'm doing. Let me know if you get the same results:
I import a video sequence. I put it in a new comp. I create a new shape layer (a rectangle). I motion track the sequence (I click on Track Motion). At this point, my rectangle disappears. I click on the play button (analyze forward) and AE creates tracking points. I click on Edit Target and I select the shape layer and click OK. I click on Apply. A motion Track Apply Options window pops up, I click OK.  My rectangle is still gone, nowhere to be seen. When I do the exact same steps with a text layer, the text will reappear when I click OK at the end. Not the shape layer.
