Motion transitions affecting export
I recently finished editing a video. Originally I just used basic cross dissolves for most of my transitions. However, for a few key spots I decided to use some more involved transitions from Motion. I got it all smoothed out the way I want it, however, after burning my DVD I realized those transitions were not there. I tried opening DVD Studio Pro but it would not initialize the assets properly. I had to use Time Machine to open a copy of my DVDSP file before I added the video asset in question. I then opened the video in Final Cut Pro, and it plays fine, but when try to export it to Quicktime Movie (self-contained or not....no difference) it gets about 9% done and then it simply says general error.
I know that this is directly related to those motion files, but I don't just want to delete them. Any ideas?
Here some possible solutions that may work when a general error occurs:
Try [this small application|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to delete your preferences. Close FCP>run the preference manager>empty bin>restart the machine.
Trash your renders using render manager from FCP main menu>Tools.
From motion export using a codec that matches your sequence settings and use those export rather than Motion projects .motn straight from the application.

CS6 flash exports use 1 motion transition for all instances?
I'm using Encore CS6 OSX10.8.4. I have 1 main menu, 1 sub menu, 2 simple motion transitions. One to the sub menu and one back to main. Both only 1 second long created in AE 5.5 rendered as .mov files.
Everything looks good in the preview option. Exported to DVD and everything works fine. Export to flash and it plays only one motion transition in both cases.
I tried replacing the referenced motion video that was not recognized another and the same results. Happens in both FLV and F4V exports.
Any ideas on how to correct this? There are no special characters in my project file asset names. Tried it in chrome and firefox. Redid a new Encore file and same outcome.
I wan to use flash export to keep higher resolution than SD so I can take a screen video of navigating through the menus and use that high res video as part of a portfolio for a potentical job.
Any Help is much appreciatedThere are some limitations to flash export, but I don't recall this coming up. No time to test at the moment.

Images displaying differently in Library view to Develop - also affecting Exports
I've run in to a strange problem since the 4.1 upgrade.
When displayed in the Library view, images are not appearing correctly. In my case, there is a huge amount more noise in the Library view compared to the Develop view. This is also affecting Exports.
I have been unable to find any answers online, and only found one other case of this reported via a You Tube video.
Any ideas?!
Many thanks
RickI am assuming you have a correctly calibrated monitor calibrated using a hardware calibrator. Lightroom sometimes shows the aforementioned problems with canned monitor profiles on windows machines. Now that out of the way:
I am also having this problem - the library view is closer to the printer output - very frustrating! In dev mode the image is lighter - sometimes appears to be too hot, but in library and during print it is just right. This was not a problem in 3 - what's the fix?
Have you tried seeing what happens when you soft proof for the paper profile in the Develop module?
It seem the fit views do not match up...the confusion comes in that it seems the fill views sometimes do, and sometimes do not match. when the images appear different, I've the sense in dev the images are brighter and hotter.
This can happen if your image is very noisy or has a lot of high frequency detail. The sharpening preview in fit view that is applied in Develop tends to brighten images with lots of noise or detail. It also happens when you are applying a lot of color noise reduction and have a lot of colored detail. SInce Lightroom cannot really show you the result of this correctly but for when looking at 1:1, this results in the Fit preview showing more color saturation than there really is. -
HDV project in motion want to export as a SD DV project???
hi, ive been working a hd project and been adding motin fx in motion2. my problem is that the client wants it to be made into SD DV PAL and has only told me at the end..as i would have down converted from my Deck deviceat the begginig. Is there a way to export HD content into SD format from motion. ive tried various settings but it keeps coming out squashed (4:3), how can i get it made into 16:9 aspect ratio. should i use compressor or motion's QC export??
If you are putting out a 16:9 DVD, then the squished format 4:3 is how it is stored on disc - it is called anamorphic. If you load it into DVDSP and tell it that your material is anamorphic, it will create a disc that will either play with letterbox if the display device cannot handle anamorphic material, or it will play in 16:9 format...

Does Motion Filtering setting affect Export Using Compressor?
Hello!
Can anyone tell me if my Motion Filtering setting in the video processing tab of my sequence settings has any effect on the ultimate quality of my export when using the "Export Using Compressor" command? I know it certainly would when exporting to Quicktime, but I'm wondering if it matters if I'm going directly to Compressor. I am sending a completely unrendered sequence.
Thanks!
CameronDon't feel too bad. None of us can match what the big guys do with our software encoders and burners.
They have the advantage of very expensive encoding hardware/software. They have tons of technical expertise (the so called black art of encoding). And they are working with source material that is expertly lighted, shot and graded. Then they physically stamp their disks, rather than relying on dyes.
It's not a fair fight.
But we can do a very decent job using FCP and/or Compressor and/or DVD Studio Pro and/or iDVD. (I've seen – and made myself – some great looking DVDs by simply taking a ProRes 422 file into iDVD and choosing Professional Quality.)
I always start with a Pro Res master file – either 422 or HQ, depending on the original material. When possible the frame rate and size are the same as what was shot.
A Compressor>Create DVD or Compressor >DVD Studio Pro can produce superior results because you have more control over the process. Starting with the DVD stock preset, you adjust as necessary – bit rate and sometimes Frame Controls. So, for example, using Frame Controls you could reduce the chances of introducing artifacts in the down-convert from HD to SD by turning on the Resize Filter.
Open up the Preview window. Set in and out points to encode a manageable length test file with he stock settings. Burn a test DVD directly from Compressor using a DVD-RW disk. If you like it, great. Make a disk image (select HD as output device in Job Actions) and burn. Or if you want better menus, use Toast,
We're seeing less and less interlaced footage these days, but if working with a video intended for the Web or computer display, the video should be de-interlaced – again, in Frame Controls.
Finally, buy good media like Verbatim.
Good luck.

Audio problem with a Motion transition in FCPX
I've looked everywhere for a solution to this and nobody seems to be having the same problem. So I decided I'd try here.
Basically I've been using Final Cut Pro X for a while now and just this week I decided to buy and try out Motion 5 to go with FCPX.
I've spent the past 3 days making a transition in Motion for use in my FCPX projects and I finally have it the way I like it. It's 3 seconds long and also has 2 audio files in the timeline. The transition plays perfectly with the audio when I do a RAM preview in Motion or when I export it from Motion.
However, it's saved as a transition, which I need to use in FCPX. It shows up in Final Cut and i can use it in my timeline and the video renders fine, but there's no audio. Whatever I do I just cant get the audio to play in Final Cut. I've updated to the newet versions of FCPX and Motion just in case.
Whether I play the timeline or export my FCPX project it makes no difference, the audio just does not play in Final Cut. I'd love if anyone had an idea why this is happening?
I've tried changing the file type of the auido used in Motion from mp3 to aiff because it's more native to OS X, I've also tried publishing the audio perimeters in Motion but no such luck with either.
I'm still fairly new to FCPX and in particular, Motion 5 so there could definitely be something I'm missing in terms of settings. Maybe I'm wrong but are or can transitions even have audio in them?
If anyone has any idea why my transition audio doesn't play in Final Cut, I'd appreciate any help.
(I'm on OS X 10.8.1 on a 2009 24" iMac)I havent checked this, but I suspect that the audio does not make it across to fcpx. You might need to create the audio bits in fcpx, maybe export as a mix and re-import into a Keep Assets event. I keep all sorts of goodies in one of these. The communication between Motion and FCPX is a pain in many workflows still, and I wiat for the day when Motion is rolled into FCPX to make life easier ( so long as they dont take any features away of course)

Motion Transition Glitch - DVDSP 3
I'm relatively new to DVDSP, but I've successfully used the Menu Transition feature on a number of occations. I find it much easier and much faster than building my own transitions, especially when dealing with large numbers of menus. This is the first time that I've run into trouble.
I recently authored a project with 7 menus. 6 of the menus were "motion" menus comprised of a .pct bacground file and a .pct overlay file with an .AC3 audio track. These 6 menus were set to loop after the audio track finished playing. The 7th menu was a true motion menu with an .m2v background and a .pct overlay and again with an .AC3 audio track. This menu was set to pause on a still at the end of it's run.
I built and formated the project without incident and it played back correctly on all test systems (MAC, PC, Set-top). After reviewing the check disk the client requested that menu trasitions be added. I added the transitions and built and formated the project (after checking the disk in the simulator) reusing the original build folder. Upon review of the disk, I was shocked and confused when I discovered that rather than the motion dissolve transition that I expected to see inbetween menus, I was instead seeing seemingly random sections of my 7th motion video menu. I attempted to delete the build folder and and rebuild the disk from scratch, but to no avail. Same problem.
I was successful in solving the problem by doing three things (I'm not sure which was responsible for fixing the glitch) by saving the project under a different name (and building it in a different build folder), by removing and reapplying all of the transitions, and by removing and replacing (with the same files) the .m2v and .AC3 files from my motion menu.
Now that I've solved my own problem (during the course of writing this post), I guess that my question has become: Has anyone else encountered this particular glitch and is there a way for me to avoid it in the future?I've tried to follow the steps in the Building an Alpha Transition, but it says that you need 2-3 different files, but no mention on exactly how to make those.
I exported from motion and have a file named Trans1-Animation NTSC Alpha.mov but I think I still need to create other files. All the tutorials that I can find show how to do this in After Effects but none explain how to create the need files from motion.
Is there a tutorial that explains the process in motion?

using pro cs4
when i export from prem the transitions i put in are not on the exported file
just slight flickering of the screen instead
do i need to render the transitions on the timeline before export ??
the reason i ask is because i thought prem auto rendered the export
cheersYou should not need to Render, prior to Export.
First question: have you updated CS4? IIRC, CS4.3 was the final.
The reason that I ask, is that there was a Bug with Opacity and Transitions. This was addressed about the CS4.2 update. Until then, one had to add an Opacity Keyframe to the Clips. There was no need to adjust them from 100%, but they needed to be added. IIRC, this was mainly with Cross-Dissolves, but could have affected others, like Dip-to-Black. Again, working from memory, I think that Ann Bens either discovered this behavior, or was one of the first to repot on the "fix," until the updates came about. Perhaps a Search of this forum for CS4, Transitions and then filtering on Ann Bens, will reveal the exact details, as they are a bit sketchy for me now.
Good luck, and let us know what your version of CS4 is.

Motion 5 Share/Export Buttons Greyed out
Hi, just got Motion 5 on it's own for a project we're doing in FCP7 and for some reason all the "next" or "share" buttons in the export menus are greyed out or disabled. We've messed with a lot of settings but to no avail.
Is there something I'm missing here? There's nothing written on the Motion product page about requiring Compressor or FCP-X to export and I haven't found anyone else online with this issue. So there's nothing I can do to get this fundamental part of the software working? It's pretty stupid if it can't save.
The only option I have to take this higher is to get Apple Care video and that's $800 for something that appears to be a bug in Motion validating an external framework. From a software design perspective, the only reason that I'd want to grey those buttons is if there were a setting in each dialog that you needed to set before you could export or you were only using a trial version and you wanted to stop people from exporting it or if the dependent framework (e.g. ProApps export manager) wasn't validated in the registry within motion.
If they throw anything else at me like you need FCPX or Compressor or Lion then that's not right either since they had no mention of that on their website when I purchased it.
This is just really frustrating! -
Motion won't export just hangs
I've been using Motion more recently and was wondering about a few things.
When exporting I often get a hang during exporting an HD project using the Sequence settings (ProRes 444). Motion just sits at frame 1 and doesn't advance. I have to force quit. Does anyone else have this problem and know of a solution? Is it caused by the render setting? A normal render setting seems to hang less.
Also, I have an early 2008 MacPro 2.8 GHz Dual Quad with 8 gigs RAM and the updated video card with 512 MB VRAM.
Can I use one of the newer MacPro 1 GB VRAM video cards in this 2008 MacPro and would that speed up Motion?
Thanks,

You should be able to note some kind of common threads in your crashes or failures. Types of source files? Destination disks? Do simpler projects render propelry?

Not likely any of the above but no way to tell from here.

Duno, you haven't stated the model of the cards you're talking about. The VRAM is only one factor but, generally, the more the better. The 5870 (or is 5780? card seems to be the best option now. Search down a few pages to see a post form me linking to an objective test of the available Motion cards.

Warning - Playback format affects export format
I know we have had some threads on this a while back, but I think the wrong conclusion was stated.
In my recent experience, I have found that if I am using proxy media for playback, if I then export (for example to a quicktime movie) it will use the proxy media as the source for rendering, even if my original media is online.
Calling it a "playback preference" is thus very misleading.
So just make sure you are not using proxy media when you want to export something!Jeaux wrote:
Switch Preferences/Playback to "original or optimized media" when you want to export your proxy project to a high-res movie. This has been covered in the threads that I've read.
I had read some early threads that said or implied the opposite, so that's why I wanted to at least give people a separate thread if there was anyone else out there who might be in the same boat.
Granted, exporting a proxy project directly to a high-resolution movie under the current FCPX setup is unintuitive and misleading.
That's mainly my point! Playback preferences shouldn't affect final export preferences. of course, we don't have export preferences yet. maybe that will change. -
Can you automate 'page turn' transition when exporting a document to Flash?
I have created a multi-page document with a page turn transition which I have exported to Flash to upload to a website. The page turning works fine manually but I want to automate the effect, remaining on each page for 30 seconds before automatically turning. Is there a way of doing this? Any advice gratefully recieved!
Only if you export using File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive). Not if you're using File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print),

Transitions while exporting to flash
heya,
one problem, i hav been googleing and apparently while exporting to flash, the transition effects dont work, and i was wondering if any of them work at all, i even tried disolve and that doesnt work, apple posted something about a work around but that was just exporting to quicktime, so i was wondering if there is any that works at all,
for the record i am running keynote 08 with latest updateHi. I was able to get dissolve to work.
I use one slide ONLY with a smart build. -
Motion 5 not exporting Play Range with Compressor
I've been trying to export portions of certain Motion projects, but I prefer to use Compressor to take advantage of my cluster. However, Compressor insists on ignoring the "Duration" setting. It will only ever export the "Entire Sequence", and if "In/Out Points" is selected, it won't care.
I've tried this in every possible permutation of Compressor exporting. I've clicked Send to Compressor, both in the menu and through the Export Movie>Advanced dialog, and even using Export using Compressor Settings. Every single option completely ignores my play range.
Meanwhile, exporting through Motion handles the play range fine, but it's slower and more crash-prone than Compressor.
This is a bug, right? I'm not missing something obvious? (Yes, I have Compressor 4)In/Out points inside Motion are ignored when you Send To Compressor. Inside Compressor you need to manually set In/Out points in the Compressor Preview window.
