Motion transparency problem

I have searched on this (here and Motion forum), and RTFM-d, but nothing is solving my problem.
I am using Motion v1.01 and FCP HD 4.5. I am working with regualar (not HD) PAL footage.
I created a sequence in Motion using the template. I made sure it is a PAL sequence. But when I try to directly import it into Final Cut (ie dragging the .motn file acrss), all the transparency is gone.
I have modified the Alpha type from Straight to Black, as recommended by the Help pdf, but it does not solve the issue. "Reverse Alpha" is also permanenty selected: I cannot seem to deselect this (assuming I need to).
Any help greatly appreciated. FYI the template is Panes 1, with the jpgs replaced by PAL video clips, and the place holder text changed. Other than that I didn't make any changes to the template.

With your project active in Motion, press command-J. At the bottom of the general tab, set your background color to 0%.
This may not be the answer, but this hung me out for a good long time.
In preferences you can make this setting universal.
I am using Motion 2 so your mileage may vary.

    I sometimes have transparency problems when I distort PDF image size (i.e.: 100%x99%) then Export. Is there away to fix.   Or at least be able to preflight and know I have an issue.

    Mostly I have seen borders and drop shadows that will just go away or other wise not print right but only when I distort the image and only on very complicated large PDF images.  When I print it at same % both horz and vert. this problem goes away.

  • Transparency  problems in director

    Hi all ,
    We are trying to acheive transparency for 3D models. When
    using png textures with transparency details we either get 100%
    transparency or 0% transparency. semi transparent areas are
    converted to 0% transparency. We are using 3dsmax 7.0 to export the
    3D models. The inbuilt shockwave player in 3dsMax displays models
    with correct transparency details , but when its taken to director
    we are getting transparency problems.
    Any one please help me
    How to get correct transparency for 3d models in director ?
    I also require following information.
    1. What version of directx is supported by Adobe director.
    2. Is there a standalone w3d viewer that supports directx
    9.0c .
    Thank you for your time and consideration.
    regards
    Avanthika

    when you export a model out of max it exports with
    transparency on some colors will show up invisible in the preview
    window
    but you can use 3dpi in director and turn transparency off or
    lingo but 3dpi is quicker

  • Drop zone (transparent) over motion menu problem

    Hello.
    I've created a semi-transparent photoshop file that I would like to use as a dropzone. When I import the psd file, DVDSP lists it as a "quicktime picture". When I drag the asset over my motion menu the part that is supposed to be transparent is white and covers up the entire motion background. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong here?
    Has anyone had success using transparent graphics in DVDSP 4?
    Thanks.

    i dont believe you can mix photoshop files the way you are intending with motion menus. I know you can create custom drop zones and patches using photoshop, but this is a more involved process than just dropping a psd over motion. I have exported tga that maintains transparency information and used them to success as drop zones. you could try that.
    It would be better to bring you psd into a compositing program like motion, after effects, or even final cut, and create the motion for your menu there. Export it, compress it to m2v and bring that into dvd sp.

  • GIF Transparency problem

    I'm having a problem with animated GIF transparencies and photoshop. We've been having "halo" problems with some of our rendred images (transparencies) so I've been testing all of the animated GIF's in photoshop after compling them in Fireworks. The GIF's in fireworks look fine...full transparent background. But when I load it into photoshop the "excess canvas" background (beyond the limits of the image) are completely white. Everything within the boundaries of the image are transparent. I can solve this by trimming the canvas but need to retain the full canvas size for placement purposes.
    Has anyone encountered this? Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    I'm fairly sure Photoshop does not support importing GIF animations. It used to have the other program "ImageReady", which coud be used to export as GIF animations, and load them properly with all of their frames and correct settings. However, when adobe chnaged it to put these two programs thogether, allowing photoshop to create GIF animations in the same was ImageReady could, they didn't put in support to read the GIF files afterwards for some unknown reason. Whenever a GIF is given to Photoshop, i always get a message saying that i can only view the first frame of the animation. The transparent background is also white, which is the problem you are having.
    I do sprite sheets for 2d games, and i find myself having to go back to Image Ready 7 much of the time to open the GIF files to see them properly, edit any frames needed, and then bring them back into photoshop for cleaning and/or exporting. I wish adobe would allow photoshop to read GIF files properly too.

  • Strange transparency problem trying to print a pdf made in Pages

    Hello,
    Let me apologize in advance for this one, I think it's probably a doosy.
    Not having the know-how to efficiently do a layout in InDesign, I have been doing print projects in Pages. It has worked fine in the past to print to Adobe PDF postscript from Pages, open up Distiller and convert to a CMYK pdf from there. For my current project it worked fine for the first 2 renditions, but for the 3rd edition (incidentally the one the printing company printed) looked very "muddy." Fonts were very rough and rasterized badly, and the whole thing looked kind of "brown-washed". They claimed to use a program called "Apogee" which they said told them there was a transparent layer over everything, converting all the fonts to CMYK and thus making them lose their nice crisp blackness.They've also said that it must be a setting in Pages that has caused this, but I can't see how that's possible! When I look at the source file in pages there is no such transparency. Several of the images do have their opacity decreased to varying degrees to help the whole piece blend, however this transparency they say Apogee pulled off the top cannot be seen from my end. We are down to the wire trying to get this job to print again, but I am stumped as to how to ensure that this rendition of the file will be done correctly.
    As perhaps a side note, Distiller seems to be a pretty quirky application for me, often failing to convert on the first or second try, but somehow "magically" working on the second or third attempt for no apparent reason and without doing anything differently.
    Thanks so much for any help - I am definitely cracking out the books and forcing myself to learn InDesign after this nightmare!
    - A-J L.

    They claimed to use a program called "Apogee"
    Agfa Apogee, introduced in 1998, was simply the first prepress workflow product that processed page-independent PDF instead of processing page-dependent PostScript into an internal and intermediate display list prior to marking. The prepress operator would be using Apogee to preflight the PDF you submit as printing master, and the problems found in the preflight are those of which you were informed.
    As perhaps a side note, Distiller seems to be a pretty quirky application for me,
    Adobe Acrobat Distiller has been difficult to configure since the day it was introduced.
    Adobe Acrobat Distiller is a PostScript interpreter that converts page-dependent PostScript page description programs into page-independent PDF page descriptions without programming loops and links that produce dependencies. PDF uses a directory design for the objects in the page descriptions, a design that originates with Xerox Interpress (the idea of a directory is in fact printed on page 390 of "Interpress - The Source Book" by Harrington and Buckley published in 1988).
    converting all the fonts to CMYK and thus making them lose their nice crisp blackness.They've also said that it must be a setting in Pages that has caused this, but I can't see how that's possible!
    It is left to 'application intelligence' whether to match RGB black for type to CMYK black for type or to match RGB black for type to separationBlack for one plate/plane on a four plate/plane offset press. The problem with an offset press is that it lays down the inks at inking units that are some distance apart which invites misregistration. QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign and other authoring applications developed for PostScript imaging on offset presses have ink palettes with four fixed inks of which Black produces separationBlack.
    Pages does not have this possibility, so if you want your type to image as deviceK / separationBlack then you need to select your type and apply the following procedure, or set up styles with the following procedure applied. Open the Apple Colour Palette, select the CMYK slider mode, select some type, select the Advanced icon (the colour space icon on the left), in the drop-down menu select Device CMYK, and set the slider to C0, M0, Y0, K100. This procedure can be used by the typographer to control that deviceK / separationBlack is imaged, but for as long as Microsoft Word has produced type that is RGB, prepress processes have intercepted this in PostScript and reset it to deviceK / separationBlack including Helios colour management for OPI.
    In prepress there is no way to please all parties. If you as developer say, "OK, I'll set the type to deviceK and then show this colour managed on the display" then you will have designers and people who write for designers like Sandee Cohen yelling at you for making type less black than they think type should be, even if in fact the colour of type printed on diffusing uncoated paper is way lighter than they think. And if you say, "OK, I'll set the type to R0 G0 B0 so it is as black as the designers think type should be" then you'll have the prepress crowd with their offset presses yelling at you. Neither party accept that black is a colour, one wants type to be as black as possible regardless and the other party wants type to mark on one and only one printing plate/plane regardless.
    converting all the fonts to CMYK and thus making them lose their nice crisp blackness
    I would wager a box of Carlsberg beer that the prepress operator is ignorant of the controls in Agfa Apogee, and that Agfa Apogee has a control to catch RGB type and convert to deviceK / separationBlack. Try telling the prepress operator to READ the manual -:).
    Several of the images do have their opacity decreased to varying degrees to help the whole piece blend, however this transparency they say Apogee pulled off the top cannot be seen from my end.
    Generally speaking, you should not be sending plain PDF to prepress. You should be sending PDF/X-3 which depends on you as designer flattening transparency, or better still PDF/X-4 which passes the problem of flattening transparency to the application intelligence of the prepress raster processing system. PDF 1.3 does not support transparency nor does EPS and nor does PostScript any language level.

  • Photoshop elements 6 with vista - transparency problem

    I just installed Photoshop Elements 6 to my new laptop which has Vista.  I used Photoshop Elements 6 previously for digital scrapbook layouts on my old computer that had XP.  In XP when I dragged a element that had a tranparent part onto my layout the tranparent part (was grey and white checkered before I put it on the layout) was invisible like it should be.  When I do the same thing on my laptop with Vista the part that should be transparent shows up gray.  Please help!!

    That's pretty interesting because you should have had the same problem in XP, if I'm understanding what you're saying. You should be able to drag from the layers palette in either operating system, but you can't drag from the project bin in PSE 6 and 7 the way you can in earlier versions. That creates a special kind of pass through layer intended for use in a photo book.
    Are you sure you weren't dragging from the palette in XP and from the bin in Vista?

  • Spry Menu Bar transparency problem - one solution

    Like many other people I have spent several frustrating days trying to solve the problem of Spry Menu Bar sub-menus appearing to be transparent (text, etc. underneath the sub-menus shows above/through the sub-menu items). This problem manifested itself in IE7, but not in Netscape, Safari or Firefox.
    I thought it must be the dreaded IE z-index problem.
    I have been through most other people's questions and replies on the Adobe forums, tried all kinds of z-index changes and various other mods to my own CSS and/or the Spry CSS's - all to no avail.
    My situation:
    I have a Spry Menu Bar above a clicktrail and a text block. Both the clicktrail and the text block showed through the sub-menu items, which drop-down over them.
    All three items are located in relative-positioned divs, necessary because the whole page design is contained in a self-centralizing container div and absolute-positioned divs screw up the whole page layout when the screen size or browser window size changes.
    (Sorry, I can't upload the files to a website at the moment.)
    The solution that works for me in Dreamweaver CS4:
    I selected the divs for the clicktrail and the text block, one at a time, and selected Modify > Arrange > Send to Back in Dreamweaver CS4.
    I then selected these two items again and selected Modify > Arrange > Bring to Front.
    Finally I selected the div containing the Spry Menu Bar and selected Modify > Arrange > Bring to Front. The thought behind this was that this would put the Spry Menu Bar on top of everything else - and it works!
    This solution works in all four browsers, but don't ask me how! I can't see any change in any CSS, nor in my template code. All I can see is a strange, flashing vertical line (like an enormous cursor - about 10 cm [3"] high) in the middle of the template page only (and only in Dreamweaver) if I click on the page background. I can neither find an explanation for this nor anything in the coding which might cause it. By the way; the z-index for the menu div =2, the z-index for the clicktrail div is not defined and the z-index for the div for the text block is set to auto. I haven't tried other values and to be honest I'm not sure what they were set to before I applied the above 'solution'.
    But hey - who the hell cares - my site works!
    I hope this helps someone else out of an absolute hell-hole...if someone out there can explain where to find the code that had been changed or added by doing this I'd like to know. I don't like things I can't explain - even if they do work!

    This is where the browser is told to supply a white background
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a
         display: block;
         cursor: pointer;
         background-color: #fff;
         padding: 0.5em 0.75em;
         color: #333;
         text-decoration: none;
    Vhange the value to transparent.
    Also the last line int the CSS should be removed as in
    filter: "alpha(opacity=60)";

  • Save For Web transparency problem: Overprint & CMYK documents

    OK, I had a weird problem crop up today (as far as I can tell) completely out of the blue.
    When I am working in overprint preview mode in a CMYK document, and I attempt to save an artboard as a PNG w/ transparency (via Save for Web), illustrator forces a white background throughout the image. It didn't do this until this morning. Yesterday, it was working perfectly normally. I put the computer to sleep at the end of the day, woke it up this morning, and for some reason this behavior has changed.
    It does not do this if the document is in RGB mode, or I have the transparency grid shown, or not in overprint preview mode. (I work in this mode because for some reason having it in standard preview shows very strange artifacts when working with raster effects, which drives me crazy)
    I'm on a Mid 2014 MBP Retina, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 w/ NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048MB, running illustrator CC 2014.1.1.
    I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, restarting the computer, resetting all settings, as well as changing document settings, and editing artboard settings. And yes, the transparency checkbox is checked in the Save For Web dialog.
    Any ideas?

    brnscreative,
    Have you tried 4) and 6) on the list?
    4) is more thorough than 3), and 6) is the full reinstallation.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Transparency problems in Adobe illustrator AI when converting to PDF

    I just recently started working on an iMac, and am enjoying it very much!!!
    Here's the problem; I often work in AI and then convert my doc to PDF for print. the pdf appears to be fine when seen on my screen, but when printed, many objects that should be trasparent, print with a white square around it. for example a photo shop PSD that has a transparent background. this happens even if my psd layers were flattened. even more maddening, this problem also occurs with vector objects containing transparencies, ,(such as eps or other ai files that were embedded in my AI file), with attributes like  lower opacity, screen, darken or multiply, or feather.
    again the exported PDF looks FINE on screen ,even PRINTS fine on my office printer, but when SENT TO THE PRINTER,, it prints really ugly, with squares
    around objects and wrong colors. sometimes I can detec these  problems by e mailing the file through google, but not always.
    I did not have this problem on my old PC, this started on the Mac.
    the only solution I can currently think of is to export as JPEG. that is not very good for text and most  printers prefer PDF
    I am currently using Adobe CS5.

  • Indesign CS6 transparency problem

    Hi all,
    Problem:
    A placed TIFF with a transparent background overlaps an indesign partially transparent graphic shape and where the two transparencies overlap text appears heavier, opacity is darker and sometimes there is an outline at the edge of the TIFF frame when printed.
    The PDF however does not show these effects on screen, it's only in the print.
    I've tried exporting with a variety of PDF types and settings, I've used the page window transparency settings, but I always see the same result in print.
    Likely, I will apply clipping paths in photoshop to 'trim' the transparent area of the image to reduce the effect and avoid text. But this isn't a solution really.
    Question:
    Are there settings to deal with overlapping transparent images and objects?
    I've seen this discussed elsewhere a little, but haven't found a solution yet. Also, I can't post screen shots due to privacy concerns.
    Thanks in advance,
    eu.

    Actually, here's a flattener preview with transparent objects highlighted. You can see how the text that appears where the two transparencies overlap is treated differently.

  • The old transparency problem

    After initial optimism about using iWeb to make my new website to sell my ebook from, I am beginning to lose heart. Major bugs that are well documented on these forums have obstructed me, and I've read up as much as I can on them.
    It's this transparency issue. And the converting text to png. I had my website looking VERY smart, with reflections on my pictures, effects on the text etc. And then I sent the link to a mate to check out the site (she's on XP), and lo-and-behold, problems galore. It seems IE doesn't like a .png's transparency. So: my pictures, titles, nav bar, and text (which has been randomly converted to massive .pngs - you all know the issue) have gained horrible greyish backgrounds which clash horribly with the smooth black of the page. What a load of cr*p.
    I did my research - took off the reflections from the pics and made the text just plain Arial with no effects. Now, my website looks plainer, but it DOES just about work on a PC. Apart from the nav bar. So, as well as just ranting, I want to know what my options are.
    Are Apple going to release an update any time soon? There MUST be a better way of making the nav bar than using pngs? Its simply ridiculous and such a shame that such a promising program has such devastating flaws built in to it. I'm disappointed. What workarounds do I have to make the navbar look like it should? Can I do away with it altogether and make my own?

    Everything shows up fine on my XP, but I'm running service pack 2, so they may not be (and if they're not, they should for security's sake). Things are gray initially, but in the final step AFTER everything has downloaded, IE finally renders all the gray areas transparent. Are they waiting until the whole site has loaded?
    This is why I wouldn't recommend iWeb for a business. In the time it takes to figure out a workaround for things that don't look good in IE, you could have bought a program like RapidWeaver or SandVox that may cost a bit more, but wouldn't require any extra work PLUS they're a lot more forgiving of adding .html and other scripts. Time saved.
    I don't expect iWeb sites to ever look good in IE unless Microsoft decides to update IE so that it is on par with other newer browsers. Even AFTER this, people would have to upgrade their browsers and, due to the virus thing, many PC users aren't really excited about having to download anything (even a better FREE browser, FireFox).

  • Strange motion tween problem

    So I have been making an animation to a voice over for a project. Comes in at about 2000+ frames with each animations different "scene" location split into 16 layers.
    If I play the entire movie from start to finish my 2nd to last "scene's" motion tweens play really fast and repeat randomly.
    If I use a gotoAndPlay to the frame where this "scene" starts the motion tween plays as intended.
    The problem "scene" is setup like all my others with the "scene" being in its own movieclip on the main timeline, and then nesting other movieclips inside it. When I remove the tweens from the nested movieclips there is no movement issue, but obviously there is also no movement which I need.
    My fix so far has been to add a goToAndPlay on the first frame of the problem "scene", eg "gotoAndPlay(1895); above frame 1895" which plays the tween correctly but makes my audio stutter when it hits that frame. So is not exactly the desired effect.
    Note: when I say "scene" I don't mean flash scenes more taking about the different shots/locations of my animation.
    I've searched google for hours to try find a similar issues with no success. So really do appreciate any help or ideas from some more experienced flashers

    You're trying to have different slices fade in? If you just
    want the image,
    as a whole to fade in, import it and convert it to a

  • Slow motion exporting problems

    Hi there I had posted a topic with this same problem a couple of weeks ago and got some great suggestions, but unfortunately have to report that nothing has worked! I have tried deinterlacing, got a plugin from the net which was meant to have smoothed the slow motion, all looks well in the FCP and also in the exported quicktime, so does anyone know why it looks terrible when I watch the dvd back?
    an example is that Someone took a photo of the couple I was filming, the flash looks square! And when I moved the camera around while filming, the edges of people look square. Have an idea it may be something to do with pixels, but I dont know what!
    I am really at my wits end trying to find solutions and am about ready to fire my mac out the window! Can anyone help and save the mac?

    It depends on the formats you import. Are you slowing your footage down -100%? make sure you have constant speed checked. Maybe your time remapping it.
