Motorola Q vs. BB Curve 8830

Good Day to All:
I am new to the BB world, but not to data phones. I was using until Friday a Motorola Black "Q" and I am still adjusting to differences.
I read a Blackberry 101 on BIS and BES and know that I need BIS due to my size. My question/problem/frustration is with my Exchange Account held through a Third Party provider.
With my "Q" I set up the Outlook area to be the Exchange account. It sync's my calendar, contacts, e-mail folders, etc, however while I have the Exchange set up here on my BB the convenience just isn't the same and I am disappointed, but not without an expectation of such.
I am trying to adjust, but boy it frustrates me to have to plug in my phone and sync it up especially for calendar entries that change all the time.
Is there anything I am missing that would fix my problem or is this just not possible? I hopefully can adapt to it, but for some things like e-mail I am beginning to miss my "Q". Which is extremely crazy as most of my friends rave about their BB. With the Exchange account I don't even have a real need for the vzw.blackberry.net address I have except that the message gets there just a little quicker.
When I send messages with the Exchange account I set up the sent mails send to, to the exchange account which I see in Outlook which I like.
Just hoping.......

all right, it's easy.
on your BIS account, you can connect up to 9 mail accounts. These accounts are of four types :
an IMAP4 email addres
a POP3 email address
an Outlook Web Access email address
the BlackBerry email : in my opinion it has sub-features compared to 1 and 2.
so if you have the IMAP4 parameters of your Exchange server, just do it.
now, there is also BES, but it's hard to manage. There is also the BlackBerry Redirector or Desktop Manager, but you need to be near a PC.
with some IMAP4 accounts like Google Mail or Yahoo Mail, you have faster email than on some BES configurations.

  • Software 4.7 for Curve 8830

I have been a BB user for 2 days receiving my phone on Friday. My phone came with BlackBerry Desktop 4.5 and I initially installed this version. Yesterday, being a web surfer I checked for updated software and found there was a 4.7 release which I downloaded, installed to my desktop and then connected my phone. It appears to have upgraded without issue but now I have a problem with mail and it is bugging me.
I have several accounts set up on the phone each of which has an individual Icon, however I am no longer receiving the * for notification on those Icon's only on the "Messages" folder which by the way I find extremely annoying. (Probably just me).
Why am I no longer getting the notification * on each account? Is this a known issue? I did not see anything else posted here. Perhaps playing with the new phone I have turned it off?

  • BB Curve 8830

I recently updated desktop software to the latest version and have 2 issues
    1.  Most important:  my laptop seems to slow down and/or freeze frequently.  Is there a setting I did not catch that causes this?
    2. Very annoying:  I get hundreds of messages from "network@etp..... in my outlook and on my blackberry.  how can i avoid this.

It would appear that the BlackBerry Desktop Manager was installed for Desktop Redirector.  Here is a link from the BlackBerry website that talks about what is being experienced:

Let us know how it works out.

  • Disconnecting from the BES; curve 8830

After troubling my IT guy to connect me to my BES, I now realize that it interferes with too many of my thrid party applications (like ascendo money).  How do I disconnect from the BES once my device has been established?

  • 8830 Signal Fluctuation/Call Quality

Day 3 on an 8330 for Verizon and I've some got concerns on the performance of the phone's radio. Most calls made were from home (where I have always gotten a strong signal) have been really good, but a couple of times the other party complained of slight echoing. The sound was always been very good on my end.
Signal quality varies any way on how you look at it.
FWIW, usually three, rarely 4 bars on the indicator.
"Check Signal" on the voice system usually reports low to good, sometimes high. It seems to have no relationship to the amount of bars or what is reported on the status screen.
The status screen shows strength ranging from -86 to as low as -101 dBm, usually in the -90's. Sitting here next to the window on the 4th floor of my office, the strength is varying from -81 to -96 dBm, but usually in the -90s. (Coverage is usually strong in this area)
I was at a Verizon store yesterday (for another reason) and while there compared the signal strength of my 8330 to other BlackBerrys including Curves, 8830s and Pearls. All of the display phones were showing about 6 dbm more than my Curve when held side by side (-80 dbm vs. -86 to -92 dbm)
The difference of in signal strength between my 8330 and the display units seems to be odd. My 8330 is updated with the latest software provided by Verizon. I am finding that signal strength varies with how you hold the 8330.
    Couple of questions -
Does there seem to be a low signal strength problem with my particular 8330?
What are normal acceptable values in dBm for signal strength?
Why does the signal strength seem to fluctuate so much?

I don't have a solution but I have an iphone 5s as well and experience the same issue as you. Everyone I know and work with that have Verizon get excellent coverage but none of them have the 5s which leads me to believe the 5s does not work well on Verizon's network or that the iphone 5s has issues..i have called in and visited the store and finally a rep at the store told me that he believes I have a faulty antennae. they are overnighting a replacement phone to me and I will let you know if this solved the issue. I believe that Verizon knows there is an issue with the 5s on their network but wont admit it..there are too many people experiencing the same issue, dropped calls, robotic calls, cutting in and out etc.Im so frustrated because I Left AT&T for Verizon 2 months ago and I know Verizon has good service. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and putting the blame on my 5s since everyone I know with Verizon service has no issues. My son has the galaxy 4 and does not have this issue.I will post when I get to test the replacement phone out but you should visit a Verizon store and request a replacement also. hope this helps!

  • Can't get rid of 1 unread message

Anyone have a suggestion for this...
Even after I've read and deleted all my e-mail, my phone is still showing that I have 1 unread message. On the messages page, there is no message there, but the header still says there is. I'm baffled.
    Curve 8830.
    Bob

Mine did that, too.  I took mine to my Verizon store and they removed the battery for 2 minutes and replaced ("Hard re-noot").  Problem solved.  No unwanted data loss.  I am told it doesn't even have to be 2 minutes; 20 seconds will work.  Easy to do yourself.

  • Desktop Software Download...and nothing?

    Hello All,
Have just purchased my first BB and went to download the latest desktop software for my Curve 8830, and when my download and installation completes, there is nothing on my computer, anywhere?
It goes through the whole process of download and then installation like normal, and I get no icon, nothing is listed in my C: drive (where it says it's going to put it), not trace of any installation anywhere?
Have a toshiba laptop with Vista home...
Any ideas as to what I could do?
P.S.  I've removed everything, shut down, and tried it all again twice now, nothing seems to stick?
    Regards,
    Mark

    For Vista,
First we need to clean the machine:

    Install the correct USB drivers:

    File size: 16.988 MB
    Date posted: 15-August-08
    Download Software
Install  4.6 with these Vista considerations:
    1. Right-Click on Command Prompt in Start Menu and choose Run as Administrator
    2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Research in Motion\Blackberry\IS71 Connectors\MS Outlook Connector by typing: c:\> CD program      files\research in motion\blackberry\is71 connectors\ms outlook connector
    3. Then type in the command prompt, type: regsvr32 MsOutlookConnector.fil
    4. If the registration is successful, the following message displays:
    DllRegisterSErver in msoutlookconnector.fil succeeded.
    5. Close and open Blackberry Desktop Manager to perform the synchronization process again and Outlook will be in the list...
If you receive the error message DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005 - you do not have admin rights. So, it's important that you run command prompt as admin.

  • OS 4.5 Documents to Go update to 1.0050 OTA fails

Yesterday, I upgraded to OS 4.5 and all seems well.  I am trying to obtain the update for Documents to Go to version 1.0050 which will allow the functionality for Excel spreadsheets.  I went to Data Viz and requested the update and a link was sent to my Curve 8830.  When I try to get the update via OTA it claims an incompatability issue and then after I confirm to continue the download fails.  I have not found a way to download a computer version of the update so that I can upgrade via the PC.  Has anyone successfully updated to Docs to Go version 1.0050 (with Excel)?
    thanks, todd.
    Solved!

Finally got Docs to Go to upgrade properly and now I have Sheet to Go.  See link:
    http://support.dataviz.com/support.srch?docid=14238&pid=186
I had to use the alternate install, but first deleting the original version of Docs to Go.  The first run through alternate install did not work.  After a delete and reboot it worked OK.
I get a "907 Invalid COD" error when trying to download and install Documents To Go on my BlackBerry.
Document ID: 14238 << Back Last Reviewed: 11/25/2008      Printer FriendlyProblem:I get a "907 Invalid COD" error when trying to download and install Documents To Go on my BlackBerry.Solution:A "907 invalid COD" error happens when Documents To Go cannot find specific components needed during installation. This problem can occur if there is an interruption (such as a network failure) during the download & installation of Documents To Go on the phone, which can cause some of the application components to fail to download.
To resolve this problem, try these suggestions:
    OTA Installation
First, try to redownload the application again by using the link sent to you from DataViz, or by visitingwww.dataviz.com on your BlackBerry web browser.
Alternative InstallationIf you are still having problems, there is another way to install Documents To Go. Click the following link and follow the steps for "Alternative installation":
    Alternative Installation
    Uninstall/Reboot/Reinstall
If you still receive the "907 Invalid COD" error when attempting the alternative installation, you will need to uninstall Documents To Go, reboot the phone, and then reinstall Documents To Go. To do so, please follow these steps:
Open the Options application on your BlackBerry, and go to Advanced Options > Applications.
Scroll down to highlight Documents To Go, then press the Menu button and select Delete.
When asked if you want to delete Documents To Go, select Delete.
While the BlackBerry is still powered on, remove the battery.
Reinsert the battery and turn the power back on.
Reinstall Documents To Go (you can try either the OTA installation or the Alternative installation).

  • Unable to synch my BB with Outlook

I have the BB Curve 8830, Windows XP home edition, Outlook 2003. Within the past week the calender has stopped synching with my BB/Outlook. I do not get any error messages, it just skips over the calender part (as if it cannot find it) and continues on to synch my conntacts, memos and tasks without any problem.
Doe anyone have any idea as to what the problem may be and how to correct it??? Many thanks.

  • Headphone noise (pop sound) heard when switching to audio.

Has anyone encountered a popping noise when the start listening to audio (MP3s, starting a call, etc.) through their headphones?  I am wondering whether this may be a design flaw, a setup issue, a hardware problem with my BB Curve 8830 or with the headphones themselves.  I am using the headphones that came with the unit.  I have had this problem from day one and it's really irritating.  Thanks, Dan.

I have the same problem, actually two different pops.  The first is a loud pop when using any kind of headphone or speaker, right when the music is about to start, almost identical to the old pop when one placed a needle down on a vinyl LP.  (Anyone here young enough to remember those?)
The second is a softer but clearly audible pop between songs - however - this one is only audible using certain headphones and particularly speakers (like PC speakers).   What is with this?  Surely this is fixable - hello RIM ??
Any hints appreciated.  My Curve is new, from Verizon, and appears to be using system 4.3.  Will look into updates on that.
Not to hijack the thread, but perhaps I can toss out my other Media Player problem.  I had trouble downloading with WMP and Roxio so I am using MediaMonkey - I can get songs, album art, and even playlist names but when I check the playlists on the Curve, they are empty.   Anyone run into this?  I have MMS enabled, USB support, etc.    Thanks !

  • Redirect more email folders with DM 5.0?

We recently updated my Desktop Manager to 5.0, and now I can't figure out how to redirect the emails in my Outlook subfolders.  When I go to Synchronize, the Reconcile email messages check box won't activate.  I'm not sure if that's where I need to go, but I can't find another place that seems appropriate.
If it matters, I have a Curve 8830, Outlook 2003, and not using BES.
    Thanks!
    Irene

Irene, with a persona BIS account, you will not have the function to reconcile mail and messages with Outlook.
That is a function of BES, BlackBerry Enterprise Service.
You can sync your calendar, contacts, mems, and tasks when connected to the USB with Desktop Manager.

  • Install OS on my PC

I am tring to ediit my themes and I am reading:
"BlackBerry 101: The Basics of BlackBerry Themes" on Crackberry.com
    and the person teaching says:
"First you will need to have the appropriate operating system (OS) for your device loaded on your PC. Once loaded, find the blackberry.alx file. It will generally be found here:"
How do I install the OS on my computer?
I took the disk that came with my BB Curve 8830 and installed that but I don't have the location they are talking about.
    Any help would be great.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
The software on your CD is the Desktop Manager software.
This is the software you will use to backup, restore, upgrade, and synchronize your BB with.
If you have not loaded and run desktop software, I suggest you do that first. Especially
important would be to get a good backup of your system, before altering the device files.
The Device OS is the operating system that runs the Blackberry. You need to download it from
your carriers website. Make sure that you have the software for your EXACT device,
and is the CORRECT VERSION. On the BB go to options, about, the version will look like 4.x.x.xx.
Your carriers website can be found by Google. Search (vendor name) blackberry downloads.
Download the device OS to your PC and then run the file. It will extract itself to the correct
directories, provided you have correctly installed the desktop software.
Have a good time in class, make sure you attend Lecture 12 (How to reload a NUKED Blackberry!)

  • Device Manager Crashes Every Time I Synch

I have the BB Curve 8830 on Verizon and Windows 98/Outlook 2003. Just got the smartphone last week and was synching fine until today. Now every time I try to synch, the Desktop Manager crashes and I get the message: "Desktop Manager has encountered an error and has to close," etc. usually while synching the calendar but now pretty much the minute I open the Desktop Manager. I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire program and am still having the same problem. I tried changing the Calendar to synch one way from Outlook to Device as others suggested but same dice.
Please help! This is such a time suck!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After talking to the very helpful Scott at BlackBerry Support (Verizon tech help connected me to him), we resolved the issue by deleting the Intellisync folder on my hard drive (the one in Documents and Settings, drill down to your Research in Motion folder and within that there should be an Intellisync folder) and then resynching the BB to the computer. I think someone else posted this solution in another thread and actually Verizon tried to walk me through this step but they weren't pointing me in the exact right direction of which file to delete. It worked fine after that. He said that a calendar item might have been corrupted while synching, which was why it kept crashing when trying to read the calendar data. Hope that helps!
