Hi. I have cable modem Motorola SB5101E and connect to net be cable TV .
All is normal , functional, audio, text, etc. but I have problem with video chat be iChat. (3,1) According info from Motorola support is this cable modem without firewall and without any ports, cable TV provider was inform me, so in his server is none block none ports for me, therefore I have maybe any problem in me computer. But Where ? Can you help me anyone ? Thank you in advance and have a nice day.

Do you have your firewall active on your mac? (System preferences>Sharing>Firewall) If the firewall is on, you need to open some ports.
Report back and give us more details on your set up to troubleshoot your issue.

Solution to "Error 8" and "Cancelled Invitation" Problems with video chats

We spent nearly five hours trying to video chat two Macs, one a 15" MacBook Pro using 10.5.6 across an Airport Extreme and cable modem. The other a 15" DualCore using 10.4.11 across an Airport Extreme and DSL. One runs iChat 4.0.7, the other iChat 3.x. After an invitation to video chat, we'd get three flashes of the other persons avatar, then a slow fade. The invitation would change to "canceled," and the originating party would see an Error -8 in the Connection Doctor.
I was unable to enter my Buddy in my Buddy List. His name would flash three times and then fade away.
At all times we could text chat, but no audio and no video.
We checked firewalls, ports (we changed to 443), privacy blocks; did restarts and resets. Nothing worked.
…until I deleted my AIM account (actually a .Mac account, but no difference)and then re-entered it. Upon re-entering, all of my information returned and we established the connection on the first try.

In fact Error 8 is anything do do with your ports in the Mac firewall if On, modem, Router, interactions between the two if both devices do DHCP and NAT based thing like Port Forwarding and possibly the ISP blocking port 5060 for SIP/VoIP phone services.
Certain modems like the Thomson-Alcatel Speedtouch range have SIP bound to port 5060. If it has Version 4 firmware it can be Unbound fully, using Terminal, but later Version 5 an 6 firmware can not be fully Unbound.
Effectively error 8 has to be fixed on a Set up basis once you have pinned down where the problem is.
I have hesitated trying to write a FAQ for this as it is so wide in the possibles.

Problem with video chat

Hi all!!
I have been having this problem for over a month now. I have a macbook pro 10.411 and when I video chat with my brother who has a macbook with leopard our video chat only lasts a short amount of time...maybe 5 or 10 minutes at the most then it will just freeze and come up with an unexpected loss message. I am not sure which computer is not working correctly but I have been able to video chat with friends without losing a connection so I am thinking it has to do with my brothers. I have searched high and low for an answer to this and have yet to succeed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

iChat is also effected by the setting in System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming.
I have heard some Comcast customers are also experimenting with changing the speeds in hear as well as the iChat Bandwidth setting.
Anything lower that 128K here will not work for Video.
Intranet/LAN is the top setting as does not work properly in Tiger.
Anything less than 384k and you will not be able to Multichat in Video chats.
Of course with the iChat bandwidth setting this just increases to options (And the Testing) you have to try.
There is no certainty this will work either.

Audio problems with video chat between Mac & PC

Hello,
My parents and I both recently purchased web cams to use for video chats. I am on a Mac, using an iSight through iChat, while they have a PC and are using a Logitech Quickcam 5000 through AOL IM version 5.9. I have successfully video chatted with other mac/isight users. Almost everything works fine chatting with my parents - the video works, and they can hear me. I however, am unable to hear them. I thought this might be a problem on their end, but when they open a video chat with me, an error message pops up saying that I "do not support the talk feature, or am not accepting talk invitations." They have been able to get the audio to work when doing so between two PCs using AOL IM. Is there anything I can do on my end that will let their audio come through to me?

Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
If you mean you are trying to do Audio only chats with a PC which is using AIM 5.9 or 5.5 then it will not work.
The AIM application has never been able to do Audio Only chats to iChat
One end needs to have a camera (preferably the Mac end).
The PC end stilll needs to do the "Tuning" after getting to the Porperties.
They may also need to enable the application through the XP firewall.
And it goes without saying they have to be on XP.

Error -8 - problems with video chat to AIM on a windows PC

Hi,
To start with I have been succesful in the past connecting on iChat thru AIM to my mother on her windows PC. What has changed is that I have moved and now connect via the inbuilt internet in my apartment block (ie an independent ISP)
I can connect on iChat AIM via message to my mother but when I try to connect via video it invariable says waiting for a response/response denied. On my mother's PC it says that you are using different Firewalls
Connection doctor comes up with Error -8
My system
Mac book pro running tiger connecting to an airport extreme plugged into the wall of the in built internet in the apartment - no software firewall on the MAC
anything I can do?

It may be they do not have the ports open or
They share the internet connection and you are not getting enough Bandwidth

Sound problems with video chat?

I looked through a good amount of pages and didn't see anything on this but..
my boyfriend and i chat through ichat and we both have the same macbook. when we video chat there is this horrible ringing noise. sometimes it comes and goes, but sometimes its unbearable. anyone know how to fix this? any help would be appreciated

Go to System Preferences > Sound > Input and drop the volume on the input slightly.
Do this on both ends and come to some sort of compromise about the loudness of each.
Alternatively try headsets.
Or USB External Mics.
The issue can be the sound transferred through a hard surface under a laptop that is using internal Speakers and mic.
If the Laptop is placed on anything it should leave the largest possible area clear for cooling under the laptop (support at corners only). Try those double sided sponge sticky things without removing the backing strips.
The Software is supposed to reduce the chances of this by cutting output to the Speaker with the Mic in the grill (the one opposite the On Button)

It would help to know what videos you are having trouble with? Are these from specific internet links? Are these playing back commercial DVDs? Are these videos produced by iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or iDVD of home video? Are these videos imported from an external Firewire or USB adapter such as Elgato's devices. You give us little to go on. Please give us more details what is going on?

have tried everything already suggested to roll back jave to 6 but this also does not work
issue is that when hit the enter button nothing happens, smilies are not working,

I don't know that it will solve your problem or not, but it's worth a try.

Since about a week, When I launch a video, it takes a long time to get started, then only the sound starts with no pictures - If I press pause then play the video is played normally. Did anyone face or heard about same kind of issue .

I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. You need to create a play list of songs that you would use for movies - mine is called Music for Movies. Then when you click on the music icon (the first box in the line of 5 in the grey bar across the lower third of the screen) and a drop down menu will appear showing all your play lists. Then simply drag and drop, but make sure that you hover over the video clip that you want to add the music to. If you don't the music will be added to the start of your presentation. You can always move the position afterwards. NOTE - if you want to add to your play list do it before you start your video editing as the list does not always update when I Movie.

i have a problem with FME. i am using Avermedia TV capture
device and Canon 3ccd Digital Video Camcorder ( PAL ) when i open
the FME interface the warning given for " Problem with Video
Capture Device".
i read all the topics in Flash Media Encoder Category, if
this problem occures my capture device ( i expect MPEG ) how to

Regarding the devices not working - the main problem we see
is that the system requirements are not being met. Here is what to
check for:
- are you running on Windows XP (only supported OS right
now)?
- do you have DirectX client runtime version 9c or higher
installed?
- do you have hardware acceleration enabled?
- do you have 32bit graphics enabled?
- do you have the latest direct show drivers from the
card/device manufacturer?

Flash Media Encoder 2.5 working without any errors

The second message that you are getting "The selected audio device "Beholder Aud Capture (SAA7135)" doesn't allow setting volume intensity. Disabling the volume slider control." is because your device does not let you change intensity of volume. This warning message is just to tell user that volume slider will remain disabled for the selecetd device. This is new addition in FMLE 3.0 and was not there in FMLE 2.5
Also for first message, please make sure that no other instance of FMLE is already running using this device. You can verify this from task manager. If any other instance of FMLE is running then please close that instance so that device gets free for new instance.

Problem with video capture device, with a virtual camera

I try to use Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 with a virtual camera(DirectShow Filter) but met such a problem:
"Error connecting input preview RGB filter."
"Failed with error 80004005:SetupInputVideoPreview(pFilter, pguidCategory)"
"Failed with error ffffff97:SetupVideoPreview(pFilterSource)"
"Problem with video capture device. Please verify that the video capture device is working correctly and is not already in use."
However, it is good to use AMCap,
