Motorola - SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 High-Speed Cable Modem - Silver

can you use a Motorola - SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 High-Speed Cable Modem - Silver and a router instead of the modem/router that they provide?

I'm not sure if you're asking about DSL or FiOS service.
DSL service requires a DSL modem, not a DOCSIS modem.
FiOS does not use modems, just routers.  FiOS routers do have a MoCA (coax) port to talk to the ONT and set-top-boxes.  You can use non-Verizon routers with FiOS, but it requires an Ethernet connection from the ONT instead of MoCA.  If FiOS TV is used, a Verizon router must be in the mix.
So, the short answer is there is no Verizon service that uses DOCSIS.  Cable-modems are not used with Verizon services.
Good Luck.

About a year ago FireFox stopped function to modifiy settings (such as port fowarding). This drove me relantly to use Internet Explorer for this work. Now in Windows 10 IE is replaced by Microft Edge. It will not perform the settings changes. If you check a checkbox it reverts to unchecked. Additionly the Port Fowarding dose not report the existing checkbox status. (They show all unchecked) Iven though the port fowarding I have setup in the past is still functioning. • Help - Motorola - SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0

Good Morning, I tried searching but could not find an answer to my questions. I purchased the Motorola - SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 recently and have had problems with my internet connection ever since. Almost everyday about 12-1 AM it shuts down and reboots. Will do this same things at other times during the day. Yesterday, I had flushed my DNS settings - first time ever. I find the page load times to take much longer than before. I switched out the cable company's provided modem (2005 technology) for my own (save $5 a month) - I am now regretting this change. Any ideas what might be going on? I don't want to return it - if I can repair it on my own. Thanks in advance - any help is appreciated. FH

The only time when your modem/router would be involved as far as streaming goes would be how fast your connection is compared to how strong your wifi connection is.
A wifi signal with one bar may not be able to transmit the signal at all angles that well everytime the signal bounces back or however that works. At least that's the only logical thing I would think about.
As far as streaming being slow though, are you using silverlight or an adobe player of some kind? I have fixed so many machines where adobe player had hardware acceleration turned on which would destroy a persons streaming ability.
Another option would be to try to reset the settings for your browser. If you can supply the browser I can gladly supply information on how to do this.

  • I chat freezes after switching to high speed cable

3 weeks ago we purchased a new I Mac and set up I chat video conferencing with an AIM account. It worked well, with only a few break-ups in the video. At that time we were using a DSL connection-our buddy (Mom) a 2 yr. old I Mac on high speed cable. We switched to high speed cable 2 weeks ago and from that point on I Chat hasn't worked. We connect for a second and then the picture freezes and we get an error msg. We have had our "Mac Doc" out twice and talked to the cable guys- everyone seems stumped and so far nothing has helped. Any ideas on how we can fix this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Making sure Network High Speed Cable is being used

    Hey all,
    I have a quick question.
I have a new iMac 24 inch Alum computer. I have a highspeed internet system already. My modem is both wireless and linked with cables. I have the cable linked into my Mac.
How can I make sure that my iMac is using the 'cable' instead of wireless? In Boot Camp WinXP mode, I faster download speeds, so I 'think' that OSX is using wireless mode.
    I have Airport turned off.
Is there a way to secure and or set to priority, the 'cable' link route?
    Many thanks...
Loving this Mac! Its a giant iPod!!!
    Bill

Cool.. I didnt know if it was using WiFi or some other wireless direction that I didnt know about.
I am hearing now that others are having download issues also in OSX after the latest update. One found a cure for it at MacRumours.com where they added DNS entries and suddenly the download speeds in cable and AirPort were resolved and back to high speeds.

  • RVS4000 restricting high speed cable internet.

I have a RVS 4000 with a Charter Internet That is 5 MB up and 60 MB Down. the RVS4000 seems to be restricting my speed on the up to 3.6 and down to around 21 MB.
With a workstation directly connected my speeds are 4.5 and 46 MB respectively, but when i plug the router in I lose speed.
I have the firewall turned off.
    Any ideas.

    Hi David,
Thank you for posting. Try going to IPS -> Configuration and disable IPS Function. This should help with your internet speed.

  • High speed cable internet connection.

I connected my Power mac G3 (upgraded to G4) aand running OS9.2.1, to the internet via cable ISP. The system works fine except, I can connect to all my favorite web sites except www.apple.com. When I try, the connection seems to be made to apple.com but the content of the screen is blank (white). Same results to any apple site.Has Apple closed out access to OS9 users? At one time I had installed OSX 10.2 but it was so finicky that I removed it.
    Any ideas?
    Rudy

    Hi, Rudy -
I use only OS 9.1 and IE 5.1.7, and have no real problems accessing the Discussions forums. Occasionally a forum page will display incorrectly - everything is shifted to the right - but a reload of the page fixes that.
When I go to the Apple homepage, Apple.com, I get a page with the global tabbar at the top and a few links on it, but no other content. Clicking the link for the Site Map allows me to get to other pages. The page for the Apple Store has the content it should have, but it is not displayed quite the way it probably should be - the center portion with the picture links is shifted downward. Ditto the pages for .Mac - the elements are there, but the arrangement is off.
So far these anomalies have not been sufficient to cause me to change things at my end.

  • Can a G4 Desktop OS 8.6 be hooked up to cable modem high speed?

Can anyone help me set up my apple G4 desktop os 8.6 to work with a high speed cable modem to get internet access?

    Hi Gepicou
In a word yes, your G4 will definitely support a high speed DSL connection - I'm writing to you on a 7300 powerPC mac I've just dusted off, sent to a repair shop where they set her up for my 512Ko line. I'm deep in the countryside so I don't get a powerful signal, but all is fine. The modem is a Thompson 510 (ethernet).
Normally I use my present Powerbook running on Panther, and since I'm going to England for work reasons, I'm leaving my partner with my old (and dear) Mac to use.
You could try the forum "Mac OS 10.3" > getting online - loads of folk there have used OS9 before, and have experience in newer connections that weren't really around when OS8 or 9 were still mainly in use.
Otherwise, if you get your running orders from that forum, take your G4 to a technician - mine configured the modem in 20 minutes, it cost me 20 euros...
    Good luck!

  • Can't connect WRT54GL router to Motorola Surfboard cable modem SB6120

I can't connect my router (WRT54GL) to my new cable modem (Motorola Surfboard SB6120).
    Some info:
    1)  Cable modem works perfectly when connected directly to computer ethernet port
    2)  ISP is Optimum Online
    3)  Using Automatic DHCP setting on router
    4)  Using MAC cloning on router
    5)  I can access the router's admin screen from the PC
    6)  I can connect to the router wirelessly, but no internet access
    7)  I've tried powering down everything multiple times, still no internet access
    8)  I upgraded the router firmware to 4.30.14
    9)  The "link" light on the cable modem never lights up when connected to the router
    10)  This is very frustrating
    Thanks

    Hi
I've tried two ethernet cables, no luck.  On the router, I get lights for Power, WLAN and the ethernet port that the pc is connected to.  The "internet" light is not lit.
When the modem is connected directly to pc the link is lit up, just not when it's connected to router.
The internet light won't turn on as you need to plug something on the WAN port. And that should be the cable coming from the modem.
When you connected your pc directly to the modem, do you get internet access?

  • Can I fax with a cable modem?

Using my Mac's built-in software/hardware, is it possible to fax a document from my computer's desktop by way of high-speed cable modem?

    No. Faxing require dial ups.

  • Having trouble "extending" Airport Express to DOCSIS Motorola Surfboard

In 30 minutes of searching this forum, it is clear Bob Timmons is the man when it comes to Airport Expresses.
I had ATT DSL connected to 3 airport expresses (A1264) for streaming music in smaller apartment.
I'm now in a bigger rental home and want to extend the network.  After some tinkering, I can get the A1264 to "join my wireless" network but I can't get it to "extend."  When I choose those settings, I get the blinking amber light - and it will not work.
I'm connecting to a Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem.  Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Ron

If you are trying to extend the network wirelessly......Apple's extend a wireless network feature will only work with other Apple wireless routers.
To confirm, please see this excerpt from Apple's product literature on the AirPort Express:
Extend an existing Wi‑Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, AirPort Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express
    http://www.apple.com/airport-express/
If you have a Motorola modem/router providing your wireless network, the AirPort Express will not be able to extend that signal.

  • Comcast  Cable High Speed Service-No offered Firewall,Virus protection,etc

I just switched to Comcast "High Speed" Cable internet service from Earthlink dial-up.Unfortunately the suite of security products offered are not Mac compatible. What are the most effective products out there for security for Mac's? Thanks
    IMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi, garyah and ~Bee!
I'm writing to echo Bee's words of encouragement.
I also have Comcast + a Cisco router. As far as I'm concerned, the router's firewall is extra gravy — OS X's is fine. Enabling this firewall "built-in" to OS X 10.3.9 that ~Bee mentioned is a simple matter: System Preferences »» Sharing »» Firewall »» Start. Mac Help »» type in "firewall" and »» "sharing" will provide you with ~all you want to know. [1]
Beyond this, imo, common-sense resistance to "social engineering" is the best protection — i.e., think before opening an email attachment or launching an .exe file from a potentially dubious source, etc...
Security remains one of the subtle pleasures of Mac ownership. [fingers crossed!]
    Warm regards,
    Dean
[1]   Various "Services" may need to have ports "On" in Sharing — but each port opened to enable network services is unprotected, even with the firewall running. This is good to keep in mind, too.
Hey, ~Bee — what'd'ya mean none of Comcast's perq's are Mac-compatible? Don't Comcast Mail and "The Fan" work for you? </giggle>   While this context is handy, have you ever used their "Personal Web Page service?" My son's bugging me to put up a web page, and I'm a true neophyte...

  • How can a session be setup between two MacBook Pro's at different locations on high speed Internet connections, be setup to have a live recording session in Logic?

My partner and I live on opposite sides of the valley here in Phoenix. About 50 miles apart one way. We are Musicians and are working on a commercial for television, and would like to know if there is a way, between FaceTime and Logic, that we can configure our MacBook Pro's to record sessions together without having to be at the same house? When we FaceTime, he can hear my keyboard through his headphones, but we can't seem to get the signal routed into Logic and register to a track when its record enabled. Is there a way for us to save gas, and record at seperate locations, so he can engineer me and I can engineer him, while we build this project in Logic and Final Cut? Here is what we are using, we have nearly identicle setups, which was planned so we might be able to do something like this. Both of us are using Mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro's with 2.6GHz Intel i7 processors and 16GB RAM. The only difference between the two MacBooks is that his has an Optical Drive, but I removed mine and replaced it with a 2nd SSD Drive, so I have two Samsung 840 Pro's each with 512GB in my MacBook Pro. His just has one Samsung 840 Pro with 512GB. We both use Focusrite Saffire Liquid 56 Firewire Audio Interfaces, and we both use Logic Studio 9 Academic. I don't know if you need to know what we are using in order to help us figure out how to configure the MacBooks for a live session, so I figured I would give you those details just in case. If you need any more information, just let me know? Oh, we both have high speed cable Internet connections. Mine is 150Mbps speed which is the absolute fastest I can get in my area. And his is only a 50Mbps speed line.
Again, what we are looking to do is have a LIVE recording session, in Logic, with him at his house and me at my house. When we FaceTime each other, we can pretty much hear each others keyboards as if they were part of the conversation, and as crystal clear as we can hear our own when recording, but we can't seem to record enable an Audio track in Logic and route that keyboard signal into Logic and record it so we can engineer each other without either one of us having to drive to the others house, to be there to do it. If any of this even makes sense, I'm not quite sure how to better explain it. So hopefully you get what I mean, otherwise just say so, and I will try to do a better job explaining it.  :-)
Anyone who can help us with this little problem would be greatly appreciated, and quite a hero in these two humble Musicians Worlds!! So from both of us, THANK YOU in advance for any input you might be able to give us. I look forward to hearing any and all suggestions.
    Scott

    Hey Scott
You and ALOT of people are attempting to do this, myself included.
Unfortunately at this point (to my knowledge) it's a pretty CRAP setup involved that will likely leave you frustrated.
    HOWEVER:
A few things CAN be done:
IF you are getting live audio from your partner over the internet, you can re-direct that audio directly into Logic using a program called SoundFlower.
There are a few alternatives to SoundFlower, like JackTrip, and.....(the name eludes me)
(SoundFlower is from a company called Cyling 74 who also makes Max MSP. )
Once in Logic, you set your audio inputs to the track to be Soundflower. (either 16 inputs, or in this case 2)
That all being said, regardless to speed, you are still going to experience latency in the connection, and THAT is the part that will likely drive you to the mad house.
THIS all being said, I believe there are websites out there that are set up to actually do this kind of thing, (at least there WERE) but likely membership costs, and other "hidden" problems that you only learn about after you have signed on the dotted line. (Hopefully I am wrong?)
If you don't need to do a "live jam", there are always solutions like DropBox that work very well for exchanging large files quickly.
If you want to record live MIDI input from his keyboard, I am unaware of any solutions for this.
Due to the popularity of the iPad, you might want to look into the App store, and see if there is something available.
    Good luck!
