Motu interface and garageband problem

I've recorded in garageband before using my motu mk3 interface, but I started it up today and it wouldnt work. I have the motu connected through the usb port. I'm getting a signal on the interface, and the interface is appearing in the garageband audio preferences, but when I click on it, there is no sound when I play. The volume meter for the track doesn't move. I made sure the monitor was on, but there was no sound. I turned off/on my interface and no sound, and then I restarted my iMac, but still no sound. I'm not exactly tech savvy, or I would probably have this figured out. Any help?

Well, I've figured it out. All I needed to do was unplug the power cord from the motu, plug it back in and good as new.

  • Input problem with UCA202 usb audio interface and Garageband

Hello, i've tried to connect my guitar in my UCA202 Bheringer audio Interface, and the sound goes fine for few minutes and after i get a noisy distorsioned sound with a big delay...
I dont know if the problem comes from the MacBook, the sound card, Garageband or else...
it come only from input guitar device.
    Thanks to help.
    Alex

There are other posts concerning this problem. I also have a UCA202 and a Peavey PV10 USB mixer. It seams that anything using the 10.4.11 or 10.5.1 mac USB drivers are having this issue. I had to go back to 10.4.10 to resolve at this point. My recordings are clean when going back. There is 10.5.2 comming soon and it is not known if this will fix it. Check this thread for updates.

  • MOTU 828mkII and Logic Problems

Mac G5 OSX 10.4.6 Logic Pro 7.1.1 MOTU 828mkII I've installed the new driver for the firewire software for the MOTU, I've reset factory settings, i've double checked and triple checked the internal clock settings. I am still getting distortion and high pitched whistles and error message. This happend once before but after installing the new driver things worked fine. Now i'm not getting anywhere. Thanks for any help !!!!

Just a note, I've had this problem as well with the MoTu 828ii. There is an issue with this system not functioning properly with Pro Logic 7.1. Out of the blue, I start getting a message "Midi and Audio out of synch" messages, and there is no sound. I tried downloading the latest driver, no go.
I called the MoTu people and they aren't very helpful with their system's conflict with Pro Logic. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying the Motu at this point. I'm thinking of Apogee if I can't get this thing running soon.

  • Serious issues with motu interface and logic, advice?

i use a motu 828 mk2, updated to logic pro 7 from 6, everything worked fine for awhile. Sometimes I can spend hours playing and recording software instruments before the program malfunctions. All of a sudden the audio being played becomes out of tune and crackly, fading in and out. Then the screen of the motu begins flipping out, the faders become dim and move kinda erratic and sometimes theres letters that appear NIAG. If I save and close logic, turn off the interface then back on again the problem is gone. (actually sometimes it will work fine again and others it won't. Right now for example I will use logic for a minute and then it comes back again. I keep up on all the mac and logic updates. does my computer cause the problem to the interface or vice versa. Is the interface broke? Do I have the wrong driver?( I downloaded it from motu so I don't believe thats the case). does it have to do with the way all my folders are organized on the hard drive? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? No? who else could I ask. motu's forum wasn't much help. I almost want to call the geek squad or something like that but I thought all you could give me some ideas. thank you for reading this. I really hope someone replies, even if it's to say which set up you have that works fine, maybe I'll reconsider mine.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Though, that didn't work. How frustrating, The same problem has occured. Today is the fourth day in a row that I can't use logic. In the past it would act up for a day two then work again. Tuesday ( tomorrow) I'm supposed to have a recording session, It doesn't look too hopeful that this issue will be resolved. Please , if anyone has another suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe some ideas to isolate the problem. does anyone out there use an mk2? I lost my install disk and downloaded the driver from motu's website, could their universal driver be the problem? I'm getting pretty burnt out with this b/s. Maybe resetting something in logic would help. Any ideas. thank you. I think any response could help.

  • MOTU Interface Issue: Audio Not Reading In Host Software

Greetings. I'm in need of help. I'm using my MacBook Pro for live studio recording and it receives audio from a MOTU UltraLite Mk3 Hybrid Interface via Firewire cable.
The Audio Reads in the System Preferences Sound Input Level Monitor But Not in Host Software.
Although the audio signal from my mixer is making it to the interface (can see levels)and the audio from the interface is making it to the computer (can see on system preferences "Sound" input level monitor)it is not being read on any host software I've tried which includes: AudioDesk 3.02, Garageband, Cubase 4.1, Audacity, and Adobe SoundBooth CS3.
Note: Output (for playback) is set to go through the MOTU Interface and works well.
Here's an Overview of the machine's Hardware:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 3 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.27f3
    Serial Number (system): W8*
    Hardware UUID: 21BCA47D
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
Any advice is greatly appreciated. But please note that I've followed all instructions provided by Apple, MOTU, and all set-up instructions for host software and I've also disconnected the MOTU interface and recorded directly into the MBP and it worked fine.
    < Edited by Host >

Well, it's nearly 2 years later... and this part of the problem mentioned in the link you provided is exactly what I'm experiencing!
Yea it is rather interesting from a couple of perspectives. One being that MOTU seems to be pretty diligent about their products and compatibility issues (just from reading through their "Tech Notes" at http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technotes.html). Also, I found that if you go to one of their product pages like "UltraLite-mk3 Hybrid Overview" (http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/ultralite-mk3) you can then click on the Tech Notes link (http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/ultralite-mk3/technotes.html)and that will narrow the results to Tech Notes that mention that specific product.
Researching off the tech notes and the info you provided, I did find other users with similar problems, but nothing really as conclusive as the link I suggested in the previous post. Also, of note, is that reading trough some of the search results, I realized the "whole ball of wax" can get quite complicated and goes well beyond my knowledge of the issue and the technology involved.
All that being said, have you tried contacting MOTU's tech support (http://www.motu.com/techsupport/)? Just by their documentation, they seem to be on the ball - might even have a ready answer. Like any vendor, they may have specific issues that they have not heard or dealt with before, but their website structure and content does seem to suggest they take an interest in getting their products to work across a myriad of tech environments and use cases.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bind interfaces and mac addresses

I have a server with arch linux installed.
The server has 2 interfaces, and my problem is that sometimes, whenever I reboot the server, I find that the interface names switch - I.E., what was eth0 is now eth1 and vice versa...
Of course, this is a major connectivity problem, which forces me to reboot again, and hope that this time Arch will "get it right"...
I also have several centos/redhat servers in which i found it pretty simple to just add the HWADDR to the ifcfg.ethX file, but i couldn't find anyplace where i can bind the interfaces to a specific mac address in Arch...
Anyone had the same problem before?

    attila wrote:
These may be in a future version of Arch's network scripts
I use udev to get a specific name for my network:
    KERNEL=="eth*", SYSFS{address}=="MAC_ADRESS", NAME="lan"
This works about a half year without any problems so i hope there will be a warning before doing this because than perhaps i have to change my configuration.
the udev method will continue to work as long as udev doesnt change it's syntax. the method i've suggested will not replace it, rather it will work alongside it.

  • Problem Using Zoom H4 as an Audio Interface with Garageband

I'm new to GB and I am having problems getting started using my Zoom H4 as an Audio Interface with Garageband on my iMAC.
I'm fairly certain that I have the connection and all of the setting configurations correct, and yet I cannot get any sound from the H4 into GB.
I do see the sound volume registering in the Input Level window of the H4, but not in GB.
Here is what I see in my Garageband:
    Preferences >
    Audio/MIDI >
    - System Setting
    - Built-in Microphone
    - Built-in Input
    - H4 Audio IN (when H4 is connected to the iMAC via USB)
Of course I have selected the H4.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Operators standing by!

I don't have a H4 but do have a H2. Did you set the H4 as a audio interface, after you plug it in choose interface in the H4 screen?
Did you choose the H4 input channel in the track info?

  • Problems with Lexicon Lambda Interface and Mac OS10.5

    Hi everybody
I used my Audio interface Lexicon Lambda for a wile with 10.4 and it worked great. I updated now to 10.5.2 and since then I have buffer problems. I can change all the setting but it just change the time until it happen. Everything sound digital noise, a delay and so on.
For test reasons I went back to 10.4 and it worked fine, now I am back on 10.5 and still problems.
The answer from the Lexicon Pro Support was: "There are no firmware updates for the Lambda; however, there may be software updates for the Leopard OS that improve the performance of your audio application when using the Lambda hardware."
So any ideas, any persons with similar problems? Is it just me, but in my opinion this should be a Lexicon problem, am I wrong?
Thank you for all your answers.
    Marco

Leopard is really a different OS. Lots of things have been changed in networking, security, core audio etc.
    Changes often carry problems.
A 10.5.3 update is on the go but until then it's better if you remain with Tiger.
    cheers

  • Daisy Chain a Motu 896HD and a FirePod, can't get it to work??

I'm trying to Daisy Chain a Motu 896HD and a FirePod, but don't know how to get them to work together. Logic Pro can see them seperately, but I can't get it to recognize them at the same time to use 16 audio input channels. Can anyone tell me how this can be done?
I know I'm suppose to set one as the Master and the other as the Slave, but can't figure out how that's done.
I have read in the Motu Mannual how to daisy chain two Motu interfaces, but can't figure out a motu and a firepod. I emailed Motu for help, they said I would need to get help on the software side.
I've been going through post after post on here, but can't find a similar problem that's been helped.
    Thanks,
    Chad

    Axiom,
I replied under the other thread for ya. AMS=Audio Midi Setup. It's in the Applications>Utilities folder. Create an Aggregate Device and select it in Logic's Core Audio driver pane.

  • Daisy chaining motu interfaces together

    I have a new Motu 896, and 8pre and I'm using Logic 8.
Today I tried daisy chaining the 2 together with firewire so that I could use 16 tracks.
The problem I'm having is, Logic won't recognize the extra tracks. I can choose either interface and the inputs will work separately, 8 inputs from the 896 or 8 inputs from the 8pre, but I haven't been able to get 8+8 together.
Is there some sort of input/output configuration menu I need to assign the tracks to in Logic? I've been skimming the manuals and forums but haven't had any luck so far...
    Anybody able to help?

    Hi
Have your tried to aggregate your devices?
I have the Duet and Metric Halo 2882 and 8pre
I did an aggregate of the 3 in the Audio Midi Setup and used the Duet as the Output (let's face it, MOTU converters ain't good at all, i keep it just for an extra 8 inputs) and the Aggregate device (Duet + 8pre + Metric Halo) as the input.
Make sure your master clock is set otherwise you'll hear glitches.
    Hope that helps

  • Bus-powered audio interfaces and preamps

I'm hoping to take a PB G4 Logic system to South Africa to do some remote recording of music in a rural village. There's no electricity in the village. Wondering what options might exist and be appropriate for bus and/or battery-powered audio interfaces and mic preamps. I will be taking 4 mics with me and would like to be able to record to 4 tracks simultaneously.
    Thank you!

Groovy, I do think it is an option worth considering if sound quality or DSP demands exceed the Traveler's mark, as I have stated.
ULNs are 4 lbs each, smaller, lighter, they may be battery powered, like the MOTU.
The Mobile I/O ULN2 has been designed specifically to be... erm... 'Mobile', and of superior quality.
The traveler is more affordable and would fit the bill, I never said it wouldn't.
You can say I am being the devil's advocate and offering the less voiced option-I don't at all think I am off the mark by offering a real alternative which is worth considering given the prerequisites. I would have no problem recording with this setup. It is an option for some people, and for some people the best one. Of course the traveler would be recommended in this thread, and I have stated in each post the condition that ULN2 is a very good option for superior quality. And if you get +DSP you get a great processor too, 80 bit mixing bus-there are things which for some people this option would be preferred. I never said it was the only option-but a good option for location. It IS worth looking into.

  • Unable to log into itunes store (0x80092013) and update problems

I am having problems logging into the itunes store using itunes 10.6.0.40 in Wndows 7 in the uk  which results in the error message shown below:
'We could not complete your itunes store request.  An unknown error occurred (0x80092013).  There was an error in the itunes store please try again later"
However, I am able to browse the itunes store without any problems (this does not require logging in).
In addition selecting the menu item Help > Check for updates in itunes results in the message "The itunes server could not be contacted.  Please check your internet connection or try again later'
I also have two ipods and an ipad and clicking on the <Check For Update> button on each of them within itunes results in the error message "The ipod update server could not be contacted.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connectivity is active or try again later".
In trying to fix the above problems I have tried the following:
    Re-installed itunes
    Ran ipconfig /flushdns
Changed my dns entries to use dynamic dns entries and also tried googles settings (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)
Put entries in the hosts file for gs.apple.com etc
Reset the winsock using the command netsh winsock reset
Turned Norton smart firewall off completely
Ensured interent settings were set to 'Check for server certificate revocation' was unticked and "SSL 3.0" and "TLS 1.0." were both ticked
General internet connectivity is working fine it is just itunes where the problems are.
I can also log onto the itunes store from the ipad itself without a problem.
I also have a Windows Vista laptop which can connect to the itunes store without a problem and can also run the menu item Help > Check for updates and results in a message saying itunes is the latest version.  This also runs Norton Smart Firewall and is having no problems.  So I am assuming from this that my setup is not at fault and it is not an isp issue.
I have also noticed that a number of other people are reporting problems logging into the itunes store and also error 0x80092013.
The results of an itunes diagnostic test (Help > Run Diagnostics) are shown below (this shows that the itunes store can be browsed but attempts at prurchasing etc cannot be completed)

I have spoken directly with Apple over the last couple of hours.  They are aware of the problem and are going to ask their engineering department to investigate.  It is perhaps not a big priority at the moment as they say they only have 30 confirmed reports of the issue worldwide.
Is it possible that there are other people who are having the same problem and are watching the forums waiting for answers?  If so, please report the problem.  This is the only way for Apple to understand the scale of the problem (if indeed it is a big problem) and to be able to escalate the issue and allocate suitable resources.  The issue we are seeing is:
I mentioned what you said about downgrading - I have also contemplated this but I am expecting I will need to run 10.6 for HD media and syncing with the new iPad.  Apple agree downgrading is not an acceptable solution, and there must be a way forward, but if you dont need 10.6 then why not downgrade until the problems are resolved.
My take on the problem is this:
The error code is the same as a Windows error code that suggests the issue is with accessing the certificate revovation lists (CRL).  iTunes 10.6 is a signed application that needs to access a CRL to determine whether its certificate is still active.   iTunes own diagnostic tool points in the same direction too.  The network connectivity test (see image below) shows the network interface and internet connection are fine.  It is just the secure link that is failing.  It is possible to view the apple store, and download podcasts etc.. but it is not possible to sign into an account or make purchases.
One person has replied to many of these postings suggesting the problem can be fixed by updating DNS settings, which could add weight to this theory.  The person who posted this didnt explain why this worked for them, but if DNS settings have not propogated fully for a new CRL this could be causing problems for some users.  If so this could just fix itself in the coming days, or it may work if you can connect to the internet from a different connection like a public wifi hotspot.
I will post updates if I get anywhere or hear anything back from Apple.

  • Firewire 400 and 800 problem ? Need confirmation

OK, I have been running 2 external Lacie HD's over a USB hub into my MacBook Pro. A couple of weeks ago I decided that I needed more storage so purchased 2 Western Digital MyBook Pro's at 500GB.
I got these two specifically because I knew they supported Firewire 800 and wanted to take advantage of the high speed connection.
All is going well until yesterday.... Let me explain my set up. Firstly I am a DJ and use a Firewire Audiophile soundcard from M-Audio, this connects to the 400 port on my MacBook Pro, and the HD's connect to the 800... When I play music I get audio drop outs... I have looked through the forums and I am under the impression that both the 400 and 800 ports on my MacBook Pro run on the same connect, so is this the cause of the audio drop outs ?
I connect the 2 HD's via USB and have no problems, am I right in thinking that I have wasted good money on getting 2 HD's that I'm not going to be able to use the 800 port with ? When I run the audio through the internal soundcard I get no drop outs !
Also.... Just to annoy me even more I have a 20" cinema display so if I have use USB I decided to connect the two HD's to this and then to the MacBook Pro, now the problem here is when my MacBook Pro goes to sleep one of the HD's wakes up the MacBook Pro as it has been removed incorrectly ??? Do I now have a problem with one of my USB ports on the cinema screen also ????? I have put my iPod in the port and no problems ?
Does anyone know how I can solve these problems without having to spend even more money ?
And can someone confirm if the 400 and 800 ports are on the same connection, if so, whats the point ???
    Thanks
    - Neil

    neil,
I wouldn't do that right away.. USB audio interfaces are usually at the more consumer end of the market, I don't think it's the best way to go just to solve your problem.
did you read the part in my post about PCexpress cards that give you a totally new and independent FW800 bus? seriously, I think this is your best bet. these cards first came out when the original series of MBP didn't have FW800 on them (only 400) much to the consternation of video pros.. so 3rd party vendors made a card solution. as I said, they aren't expensive, I would have thought around or under $100 US. connect one of those to your MBP's express slot and your problem is solved. you'll have a powerful, dedicated FW channel just for those FW800 drives you bought. then, your m-audio interface will be fine. and even if you still want to get rid of it and get a better interface, you won't be forced to go to USB which generally means opting for a lower end of the market interface.
also one other thing.. I don't know what your actual audio i/o needs are. but if you only ever work with stereo out and stereo in, ie, you never need more than 2 physical outputs and 2 physical inputs, then you have other options. the MBP (and in fact all macs) have optical digital audio built in. you can buy a 2in 2out digital to analog/analog to digital converter and connect it to the opticals. then, you'll never need to worry about FW or USB bandwidth ever again, nor will you ever need to think about drivers or compatibility or updates either.
on my MBP I use logic pro. and on this system, I only ever need a stereo out to hear what I'm working on with good quality.. and when I record actual audio tracks, it's only ever one source at a time, like a mic input or an instrument. so I do not need an interface at all, I use the opticals and I love it. I bought a mindprint trio, not the USB one, but the one that uses optical i/o. it just connects to the same connectors on the MBP that you would connect headphones or a mic, but obviously uses the digital optical signal not analog audio. it sounds really very good. the trio itself is a very handy little box that conveniently lets you do a lot of things to work comfortable when recording. and I just use built-in sound, no drivers needed ever, which is very much a rare relief in the audio world, believe me.
anyway, hope this helps. and seriously check out a card for FW800, in my opinion it's the best solution to your problem no matter which way you go.
