Motu Traveler - only peeps

I work with Motu Traveler and Logic Pro since a long time and it
worked perfectly.
Then the first problem was that sometimes after I opened Logic
there was no sound - just peeps. I was abel to solve this problem
by restarting the computer. Now I find no way to make it work again
- the thing is: iTunes works fine - but all Quicktimes Files have the
same problem no sound just peeps - I tried everything also with the
Audio Midi App. -
does anybody has the same problem? or knows an answer?
Thank you!

Did you recently update the drivers of your motu? There are known issues and a reset of the motu is recommended. This link describes how to reset a Motu 828 mkII but is the same procedure for the Traveller: http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technotes/document.2004-06-16.6405589976/view?se archterm=

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

  • What's wrong with my motu traveler ??

    HI
Since I instaled my new motu traveler interface on my computer, I have midi problem of any kind... bad timing ;like play on time and records before the cursor's line... Latensy and so on.
1)Does thoes problems also occur on logic ???.
Cause guess what ! I'm struggling with a PC !!(cubase/pc)
The reason I'm asking is because I'm switching to mac/logic
and figure that these problems will go away with my pc ,
2)or cubase is the problem ???.
I went back with my old midi PCI card and everything is back to normal.
3)does motu has problems working with PCs ???
    Please answer my 3 questions.
    thanks

And, occasionally it will boot into open firmware.
Seems odd to me. All by itself? Did you press any keys?
I don't know what to do from here. I can still boot into os 8.6 with extensions off.
Most likely, you have a bad extension. They are in a folder called extensions What you need to do is create a new folder and move extensions to this folder. Move extensions to the folder in groups. try 1/2 first. Move back & forth between folders. See which extension is causing the problem. command + n to create a new folder
verify that you have the correct firmware.
Figuring out what level of firmware you have?
    1) Mac OS 9.x or 8.x, you need to use the Apple System Profiler.
    Apple -> Apple System Profiler
    2) Mac OS X, use the System Profiler.
    Apple -> About This Mac
click on the More Info... tab
    click on Hardware
    read the Boot ROM Version
    3) Open Firmware, boot into Open Firmware.
Power on your iMac while holding down commandoption+of
The first output line contains the firmware level. Mine reads:
    Apple PowerMac4,1 4.1.9f1 BootRom built on 09/14/01 at 13.18.04
    Copyright 1994-2001 Apple Computer Inc.
The 4.1.9f1 will be different on a 333 machine.
    What firmware do you need?

  • No sound and meters do not move with the new Motu Traveler

I recorded four channel of audio with the built in sound on my power book G4 1.6 until I got a Motu Traveler fire wire audio interface. I got to preference/Audio in Logic and switch to Motu. Then when I play the song, there is no sound and the channel meters do not move. I have Logic Pro 7 version 1.0.1. I updated the OSX Tiger to 10.4.2 and the Motu fire wire to 1.2.5.2.
I can here audio throe head phones on the Motu if I plug a mic in to it but it will not show up in Logic.
Yes the fire wire cable is connected. It reacts to logic start up (click, click etc,.)
    What am I doing wrong.
I'm an ex Cubase user whom switched to Logic and thought it would be easy.

I dont use logic but I have had some similar audio routing issues with my mac and my traveler. if you can hear audio out your phones see if the default stereo output for the traveler is set to phones, that could cause this problem. click on the motu fire wire icon (not the cue mix dsp) and make sure you default outs are set to whatever you have speakers plugged in, also go into your audio midi set up for OSX and make sure every thing is for the traveler to be the default output. you might have to re-launch logic to make it see the changes, not sure though i dont use it.

  • Audio Dropouts, MOTU Traveler

I am experiencing audio dropouts after replacing my old Mac G5 Dual with a Mac Pro 12 core, 64 bit. I am using a MOTU Traveler Firewire interface. The accompanying clicks and high frequency screeches indicate the the problem is syncing the interface with the computer. I suspect the drivers and firmware updates are the problems.
Are any other music studios using Mac 12 cores users experiencing this problem?

sorry but does anyone here know what 2 do ???
i have been at this problem for the last month i have reinstaled express, the sound card, my midi card,
and have looked at just about every manual and help topic obn the web and hard copy that i can find about audio routing and recording....
i'm going to take this heap of s£@t back to the shop and buy pro if no one can help me (but i can't afford 2 yet)
    my kit list is
macbook pro 2.16ghz, 2gb ram, 100gb hdd, logic express 7.2.3, motu traveler, motu midi express 128, m-audio trigger finger, edirol pcr m-30, roland tr-909, jomox xbase-09, nord rack 2, micro korg, dbx 166xl and ableton 6.0.7 plus a few vst and au plugins.

  • Carrying case for my laptop and MOTU Traveler?

I bought my MOTU Traveler for the portability. Does anyone know of a good, protective carrying case for my MacBook Pro and my MOTU?

I have the same gear. I just use the Incase neoprene zipbags. (from the apple store, about $30 each.) I got the 17" laptop case to fit my MOTU Traveler. Works great for me.

  • SEND MTC from LOGIC to MOTU TRAVELER

    Hi!
In DP I can successfully 'generate form sequencer' SMPTE (in the MOTU SMPTE Console) - it follows the song position and sends the SMPTE time to the MOTU Traveler which I can then route via an analog out to external devices to sync with DP. I am able to sync up a Pro Tools session in another computer. Can't figure out how to get Logic to do this.
Nor can I figure out how to get LOGIC to read MTC sent to the IAC Driver from DP. Shouldn't LOGIC be able to chase another software application?
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Craig

It really depends on the FX you're using.
    Here are two simple examples:
    1) Let's suppose you want to insert an external hardware compressor on Audio 1.
Insert I/O plug on Audio 1, with its output set to Bus 1 (instead of 1-2)
In the I/O plug, set the ins and outs to 3
Connect the output of your compressor to your interface, input 3 and the compressors input to output 3 on your interface.
    In Logic, create Audio 2
In Audio 2, choose Bus 1 at its input, 1-2 as it's output.
Record your compressed track on Audio 2
Because you're creating a roundtrip through your interface, you'll create some delay. So when you're done, adjust the start of your new region on audio 2 to match that of audio 1. Be careful not to create a feedback loop while you're hooking all this up.
    2) Let's suppose you want to use an external reverb unit. In this case, you probably want to use it on an Aux, and not record it, but have it available to send to from any track.
Let's use Bus 20 to send to your reverb unit.
Create an stereo bus return. Let's say Aux 20.
On AUX 20, choose Bus 20 as it's input, output 1-2
Insert I/O plug on AUX 20, and in that select Input and output to 3-4
Patch your reverb's input L&R to your interfaces 3-4 outputs.
Patch the reverb's outputs L&R to your interfaces 3-4 inputs
Now just send from your audio track(s) to your reverb on Bus 20, just like it's a plug-in reverb.
In this case, although you're also inducing latency, you can compensate for it in your reverb's predelay settings, as you're probably using some anyway, so just reduce it by the round-trip delay.
It's actually much easier to do than to type it out And there are alternative methods too, but hopefully this will help.

  • MOTU Traveler and ADAT I/O

The MOTU manual shows the Traveler connected to a digital mixer via lightpipe.
My question, anyone tried connecting a Giga system with a lightpipe audio card into the MOTU Traveler, thus creating a total 16 audio ins (8 analog ins, and 8 ADAT ins)?
    Thanks in advance.

    I experimented on my own.

  • Having to Factory Default Reset Motu Traveller 2 times a day?

When I start up my MBPro each day my Traveler will only give off high pitch beeps. I have to reset every time. Also after sleeping it can do the same thing.
Motu does not suggest to keep the Traveler running 24/7, so that is not an option. Any Travelers out there, or anyone with any advice, as I am having to shut down and restart my MBPro 3 or 4 times a day, which is a little more than I would like.
    MBPro 2ghz
    2g ram
    Thanks
    -Allan

I returned it today. I had to push a bit on the store to replace because they could not duplicate the problem and because I did so many restores, there was no data that they could check to see the history of resets, or so they said.
But, alas, a secret manager in the back approved a replacement but I was reminded this was a one time courtesy replacement. The Genius rep was very cool, same guy who helped me the first time.
I said, "how am I supposed to come in when it locks up? I need to use the phone, so I am always going to reset it. I can't wait to come to the store and just live with no phone for a day or two." He responded that unless they can see the problem or duplicate, there is nothing they can do. A very reasonable policy and it makes sense, but you would think that if I just got the phone on Friday and came back Monday, I might get the benefit of the doubt, which I suspect I did in this case.
Got to love Apple, they just want to make their customers happy. I marveled as another customer brought their Generation 1 iPod nano in for repair / replacement and they were looking for ways to give her a credit. Another guy brought in an iPod classic that clearly had been abused and they replaced it.
    They really do try.

  • How to use MOTU's effects?

    Hello,
I am using a MOTU Traveller and just wondering if anyone knows how could I use Motu's DSP effects inside Logic?
    Thanx

What effects? The DSP in the Traveler is for (near-zero latency) mixing only.

    Hey Stoon
I had the same problem and did the reset ,as zipb mention, and install the mac intel driver on motu page, and now its working fine!
    http://www.motu.com/download/downloadmatching_downloads.html?platform_id=2&productid=14
you´ll need a motu account to download it.
anyway it still doesn´t work with some other aplications, like skype or streaming videos from internet!

  • MBP and motu ultralite NOT working. Firewire.

Hi, I bought a macbook pro 2.5 with a HD of 200G 7200rpm and I am trying to connect the motu Ultralite. I tried this audio interface in other laptops and desktops (PC) and it does work with no problem.
I am running Leopard 10.5.2 and the motu does not behaves quite ok.
Also tried with windows XP with bootcamp, and it does not work at all. It is recognized, but when I open the properties and load the ASIO drivers it says the MOTO has been disconnected and suggests to turn it on again (which obviously is already connected and powered on)
I read, this can be related to firewire port. Anybody with similar problem?
Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.
    Thank you all.

I've had problems with my MOTU Traveler and OSX ever since purchasing my MBP.
A factory reset of the audio device has been motu's fix which works for a little while but
the problem of the device not being recognized always returns.
I've found that if i unplug then re-insert the firewire cable while the audio device is powered on it
is sometimes recognized but not always.
I do not experience this problem when using DAW software which addresses the hardware directly,
only when using software that relies on the system to address the audio hardware ie; (quicktime, itunes... you get the idea). Works fine on my powerbook G4.
I've read these issues may be related to apples choice of firewire chipset in the new machines?

  • Audio MIDI Setup does not save connetion between Traveler and Nord

I have audio MIDI setup on 10.5.4, Mac G5 dual and a MOTU Traveler, with a Nord Stage connected to the MIDI port. Audio MIDI setup is on version 2.2.2. I am on the latest version of the Nord 4.0 (though that shouldn't matter), and the latest MOTU drivers as well.
Audio works fine. The problem is Audio MIDI setup refuses to save or remember the MIDI connection between the Traveler and the Nord. I have to reconnect it in the application every time I restart the Mac.
If I make the little connection and duplicate the configuration, the new duplicated configuration does not show the connection.
Everything else works fine. I have a Virus and a Remote 25 SL connected over USB MIDI, and the Novation works fine even with its 3 separate in/out ports. IAC drivers work fine; the PodXT occasionally gets a USB MIDI connection and it works fine as well.
The only thing not working is remembering the plain old vanilla MIDI cable connection on the Traveler.
This problem came in when I updated to 10.5.4 a few months ago (as a heavy user of Pro Tools and Digital Performer I've had to stay a little behind the curve for compatibility reasons).
Anyone seen this? Any ideas how to fix it?

You could muck around with permissions, you wouldn't have to boot from anothr system it's just a property list file. You can run disk utility now, or you could chmod it in terminal.
But it's far more likely that it has just become corrupt rather than aquired incorrect permissions. So just delete the ******* and have done with it:
    /Users/Name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist
(The app will make a new fresh one when you next run it)

  • Some qt only plays through speakers, not soundcard

Has anyone had this where about 30% of the time qt is only heard through the speakers, even though all the settings are for the soundcard only?

    all updates are "current"
    thanks

I don't know if I can word this differently.
I do allot of music and sometimes on the net, there are sound clips. Sometimes these clips will play through the soundcard, sometimes not..I have changed the sample rate and that works sometimes....but it's not a solve-all.
Also, lately, if the soundcard is off, I can't play though the apple built-in sound device......
is there something I am doing wrong?

  • Setting up an airport express router with only an ipad

i will be in a hotel room with only ethernet wired connection.  i am traveling only with my ipad.  can i hook up an wireless modem (Airport exrpress) without a laptop?  How?

The iPad operating system will not support AirPort Utility, the application that is needed to configure the AirPort Express.
Your best bet for the time being is going to be to try to use the AirPort Express in its default settings.
Connect the Express to the Ethernet port at the hotel and power it up. The Express is broadcasting a default wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be a letter or number. Look for that wireless network to log on (there is no password). Then open your browser to see if the hotel's log in page appears so you can agree to terms and fees, etc.
If the hotel does not use a log in page, you should be connected to the Internet if all is well. Since you have an "open" network, anyone within range can log on to your wireless, so you might want to be careful with any sensitive banking or credit card transactions.
It's not likely that a hacker is close by, but you never know.
Once you get back home, you can use AirPort Utility to setup the Express to name your wireless network and etstablish a password. Once you save the settings, you should not need to configure the Experss again as it will retain its settings.
