Mount EXT2/3 on iMac

I am new to Mac world (decent skills in UNIX/Linux). How do I mount my ext3 partitions (exteranl HD) in iMac? I see the partition in Disk.app but if I right clck and try to mount the partitrion, nothing happens. I also tried  ' mount -a -t ext3' - did not work.
Also why can't I see the standard UNIX folders like /etc/ /usr in Finder? I can access them using Xterm / terminal. IS there a document which tell me where UNIX ends and OS X begins?

Also, if you buy the Mac version make sure you download the patch, because otherwise you will only get a black screen ... and be sure to set the Audio-Output to 2 channels, 16bit, because without that there will be no sound.

  • Desk mount articulating arm 24" Imac

I am trying to find a zero footprint mount for my 24" Imac. All I find does not seem to be able to hold the weight. I can't wall mount due to location. I've spent hours online but can not find what I'm looking for.

    Ahhhh! Now I see!
    Try this....
Ask Mom if its OK to get one. Also ask Mom to help you get it all fixed up. Problem solved - I hope!

  • HT5619 Is it possible to reattach an iMac (Late 2012 and later) with a Built-in Vesa Mount Adaptor to an iMac stand?

Is it possible to reattach an iMac (Late 2012 and later) with a Built-in Vesa Mount Adaptor to an iMac stand? I'll be moving and having my iMac on a stand would be easier then mounting it on my bowling table.

I have a 4 year old iMac desktop.   Can a wall mount be retro fit?

If your iMac is one of these models, there is an adaptor kit available from the online Apple Store:

  • Vesa Mount for New 27" iMac, does it exist?

    Hi,
Has anyone found a solution for mounting the new 27" iMac? The Vesa mount apparently doesn't fit the new computer.
    Thanks!

I found this but I don't have confirmation that it works, nor can I find out how to dissassemble my iMac to do so:

  • Mounting NAS drives to iMac

Hello, I have had this problem for some time and haven't figured out the fix and so far neither has anyone else.
I have a Linkstation Buffalo NAS device.
I have it mounting to my iMac at boot automatically.
When it does mount the drives I get an icon on the desktop and a finder window opens on the desktop for each mount.
This is not what I want, I want a quite in the background mount.
When I go into to System Preferences and select Users & Groups I move to the Login items and there I can see the filesystems I want to mount at boot up.
I leave the boxes checked so that the default is to hide the mounts when I log in.
It doesn't work, unchecking the boxes doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to prevent finder from opening a bunch of popups when these mounts go active so I don't have to close them each time?
I don't see an vfstab or fstab like you would under Solaris or Linux that can be hacked.
    ej

From what I'm reading online, it sounds like that "hide" feature only works for applications.
I'm having the same annoying issue. Not sure there is a fix unfortunately.

  • An elegant wall mount for an elegant iMac 21.5

I am buying an iMac 21.5 and I need to mount it on a wall. There are a lot of solutions on the market for the iMac 27 but not for the 21.5. I am looking for a wall mount arm that allow me to pull (horizontally) the screen from the wall (24" or more), to move it up and down, right and left. Do you have any suggestions?

  • External Drive (OWC AL PRO) won't mount on on new iMac but mounts on my old macs HELP!

I have an OWP Mecury Elite AL PRO 4 TB external hard drive that mounts up on my friend's iMac (running snow leopard) and on my friend's macbook pro using firewire 800...
I just purchased a new iMac that came shipped with Lion.  It will not mount up using firewire 800.  My iMac doesn't have firewire 400 ports so I am unable to test it that way.  Any suggestions?  I called OWC and they had no solutions for me....

You've probably already tried this but have you checked this box in Finder Prefs?

  • LDAP and NFS mounts/setup OSX Lion iMac with Mac Mini Lion Server

    Hello all,
I have a local account on my iMac (Lion), and I also have a Mac Mini (Lion Server) and I want to use LDAP and NFS to mount the /Users directory, but am having trouble.
We have a comination of Linux (Ubuntu), Windows 7 and Macs on this network using LDAP and NFS, except the windows computers.
We have created users in workgroup management on the server, and we have it working on a few Macs already, but I wasnt there to see that process.
Is there a way to keep my local account separate, and still have NFS access to /Users on the server and LDAP for authentification?
    Thanks,
    -Matt

It would make a great server. Bonus over Apple TV for example is that you have access via both wired ethernet and wireless. Plus if you load tools from XBMC, Firecore and others you have a significant media server. Cost is right too.
Many people are doing this - google mac mini media server or other for more info.
Total downside to any windows based system - dealing with constant anti-virus, major security hassels, lack of true media integration and PITA to update, etc.
You should be aware that Lion Server is not ready for prime time - it stil has significant issues if you are migrating from SNL 10.6.8. If you buy an apple fresh Lion Server mac mini you should have no problems.
    You'll probably be pleased.

  • SD card won't mount in core i7 iMac (late 2009)

I have a late 2009 core i7 iMac running 10.6.7.  The only way to mount the various SD and SDHC cards I have is to boot with the card in the SD slot.  If I don't do this the card is not mounted and is not visible in Disk Utility or System Profile.

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Mounting a 20" Al iMac on the wall

Has anyone done this before? I would love some advice or links to products that could help me.
    Thanks!

This would be the easiest VESA compliant solution because the stand cannot be removed from the 20" iMacs without opening them up and gutting them to get to the rear where the stand is attached.
I think that it is a bit unique in that it uses the cable passthrough on the stand as its attachment point

  • Imac 21,5" Desk Mount removal

    Hi Guys,
I'm from Italy and I've been looking for some info about the removal of the stand for my iMac 21,5".
Some forums on internet say that this action isn't possible on the iMac I own.
Sound strange even if I've already tried several times.
If You look at this Youtube video for a Led cinema (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmm7jWU-g2s)
I can say that it's not really a different system of My iMac!!! ... or maybe yes.
The target is to create a different stand to carry the iMac with me and make a specific bag to put it in.
I've tried by using a small credit card into the backside slot, where the mount fits in my iMac. Looking through the slot on the back of the computer I've been able to see the torx screws on a similar adapter .... no result. So Sad for this!!!
Has Anybody tried to do this action? Let me know your experience.
    Thanks in advance , Alex.

  • Firewire-HDD plugged to MacPro unmeant mounted on iMac via FireWire network

    Hi folks,
I am from Germany with the following problem.
I connected two MACs - Mac Pro (10.5) and iMac (10.6) - via Firewire for networking.
Now I bought a FireWire 800 HDD and plugged it into the MacPro for faster access to video-data. Unfortunately every time I turn on the HDD it is mounted on the iMAC???? I always have to pull out the FireWire network-cable from the iMac before. Than it works and the HDD is seen by the MacPro. After that I can plug in the Firewire Network-cable back into the iMac for work.
Is there a solution? Is it possible that it matters which port I use for network or HDD...??
    Thanks for help, Andy

    Hmmmmmm, it is really simple....:-)
1.) I have an iMAC with connection to Internet.
2.) I have an MacPro which has no connection to Internet and thats what I want.
3.) Sometimes I need to share Files between iMac and MacPro, so I have connected them permanent to a Mini-Network via FireWire.
4.) I work with FinalCut on the MacPro
5.) I bought a FireWire HDD for use ONLY with MacPro NOT to share it.
6.) I connected the FW-HDD to the MacPro
7.) I turn on the FW-HDD and it appears and is mounted ONLY by the iMAC what I DO NOT want.
    8.) I turn off the FW-HDD
9.) I disconnct the two Macs from FW-Connection
10.) I turn on the FW-HDD and it appears and is mounted on the MacPro what I WANT
11.) I connect the FW-Network back on, to share Files between the MACs - NOT from the FW-HDD, (it is ONLY for the MacPro Video) but from the internal drives.
    12.) So far, so good.
13.) Problem: I want to mount the FW-Hdd to the MacPro by turning it on without disconnecting the two Macs.
    Better????

  • How does one mount a VESA mount on a iMac 27"

How does one install a VESA mount on a 27" iMac and how long does it take to install it on the computer?

    den.thed,
Thank you.  I have 22 of these to mount on articulated arms and I had no idea of how long it would take to remove the leg and put the bracket on.  Like almost everything Apple, they make it fairly simple.
