Mount failed for usb3.0 pen drive on MBP Retina
I have 32GB pen drive, trying to connect it to MBP Retina.
OS version is the newest one.
Pendrive works great with Windows 7 and WD HD Live.
Tried to format pendrive with all available file systems (from Fat32, exFat, MacOS Extended) - and format works OK.
DiskUtility see the pendrive without any issues, but can not mount.
Following error appears:
- the disk could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and the retry mounting.
Verify Disk and Repair Disk completes without issues, but pendrive is still can not be mount.
I was having this problem with the exact same USB drive (Lexar USB 3.0 32GB) and an early 2011 Macbook pro. I tried EVERYTHING to make it work: most of the things you did including resetting the PRAM and the SMC and tried every kind of formatting (Mac Journaled, exFat, Fat32....), I tried every port on my laptop, I cleaned the contacts.... nothing worked. It was working on a friend's newer Macbook, and on my roommate's brand new windows desktop. However, on my computer It wasn't showing up in Finder or in Disk Utility no matter what I did.
I then read this comment on another forum: "Likely the problem is the USB 3.0 plug going into a USB 2.0 socket. Move it back and forth a bit and it should connect. For me this works every time."
And it works. I just have to move the USB drive slightly away from my screen and presto. I am not sure how great this is for the USB port itself but I have decided to sacrifice one USB port to using my thumb drive because I need it every day.
I too spent hours trying to resolve this and this was the solution, and it's been working for months.

Mtmfs: mount failed for /Volumes/MobileBackups 9
Hello, I looked over the net and couldn't find an answer my problem.
The new MobileBackup feature in Lion doesn't work, error [1] keeps popping every 5 seconds. Looking over the System Diagnostic Reports I see that mtmfs keeps crashing regularly with the same errror [2].
It seems to me that mtmfs is looking for some executable that it can't find, but it's not clear from the log which one is that. Also I wonder why just MobileBackup 9?
Please I'm thinking about reinstalling Lion just so I can get ride of this annoying error.
Let me know if you require more information.

Auto-mount failing with segfault on FAT drives
I've been running Arch on ThinkPads for years, just got an x240 and installed Arch on it. Everything seems to work fine except for external drives of any sort.
I'm running Gnome 3.
With my USB stick, every time I insert it, Nautilus detects it and when I attempt to view the drive it fails. Here's the dmesg output:

I never had any trouble this this before on my previous laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad E330).
Likewise, when I use TrueCrypt to mount a volume, although I don't get the stack trace, It does never shows up in Nautilus, and dmesg has the following to say about it:
[31234.534922] loop: module loaded
[31234.610930] FAT-fs (dm-5): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck.
I can view the drive, however, so it's not as bad as the USB stick, but still not the correct behavior. There is no automount and Nautilus does not show it in the device list.
I've tried formatting the USB stick a few different times (it needs to be FAT for compatibility) and always Arch ends up corrupting the drive and making it useless.
Anyone have any idea as to what's going on here?
Thanks
-Nick

If I take the USB stick out and plug it in to my other Arch Linux laptop, the drive mounts fine (and complains about fsck only because of the problems incurred on my main laptop). I know the USB stick is good, it's new and I've used it many times between my other machines. I'm assuming the hardware is good as it's a new laptop, I installed Arch Linux from this same USB stick without an issue. I've also used other types of USB devices, like wireless headphones, without issues.
It must be some system configuration error. Perhaps something with the kernel or system libraries that are / are not installed? lib32 issues? (it's an x86_64 install)? I don't know, I'm grasping at straws. I have read through the USB_Storage_Devices and Udisks Arch Wiki pages without any luck.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I currently can't get any large amounts data on or off this laptop easily.

Solaris 10 upgrade fails with "mount failed"
I'm trying to upgrade an aged Ultra 80 to Solaris 10u9 (from Solaris 10u2 or so), so that it can be used for our product testing purposes. After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally freed up enough space on the / filesystem (5.2GB free) by moving /opt to a newly installed second drive.
However, the upgrade now fails with
"Mount failed for either root, swap, or other file system.
Pfinstall failed. Exit stat= java.lang.UNIXProcess@e2892b 2"
At the end of the log file it says
"Checking c0t0d0s0 for an upgradeable Solaris image.
ERROR: Mount failed for either root, swap, or other file system."
I'm stumped. It doesn't say which file system it's having problems with.
Any ideas as to how to troubleshoot this problem, or what the cause might be? At 30 minutes per upgrade attempt, I'd like to know what the cause is rather than pursuing trial and error.
Thanks.Look at your "vfstab" and see if there are any mounts that need a specific driver like a SAN-provided LUN. Comment them out during the upgrade for the upgrade tries to mount everything in your /etc/vfstab and if it doesn't have the driver/software to do it, it will fail...

Mac Pro can't recognize 1GB Pen Drives... How to fix it?
Recently I keeps encountered the same annoying problem...
My Mac Pro can't recognize the USB pen drives when I or my co-worker plug into Mac Pro's USB port.
For a few times, if we are lucky, Mac Pro shows the pen drive on the desk top, but sometimes it can't read or write the data from/to the pen drive, many times, it simply freeze over.
Does anyone knows how to fix such problem? It seems to me that the new Mac Pro still has some bugs needs to be sort out...
Thanks in advance.
KCHi, Malcolm:
Thanks for the post.
No, my new Mac Pro system does not have USB port on the Keyboard, cause I've opted for Apple's wireless blue tooth mouse and keyboard.
I do have 2 USB ports on the Apple's 23" LCD display, and Two USB ports on front side and two available USB ports on the back of the Mac itself.
During the Thanksgiving long weekend, I think I might accidentally singled out the cause of my problem.
I have my HP printer and one multi-card reader constantly pluged into the two USB ports at the back of my Mac, and always tried to use the front side USB ports for the 1GB USB Pen Drives, and that's where the problem lays!
When I unplug the Multi Card Reader from the back USB port, and suddenly all USB ports on my Mac works just fine with the Pen Drives!!!
So, for now, I plug the Multi Card Reader in one the the front USB port, and the rest of the USB ports on the Mac work with Pen Drives flawlessly, it seems that I sloved my problem for the time being...
As for those two USB ports on the back of my 23" Apple Display, They can not take my USB Pen Drives, as you've mentioned that it does not have enough power for the USB Pen Drives.

I downloaded the printer driver for my HP deskjet 6980 and when it finished downloading it said that mounting failed. Why would this be?
Hi Kat,
Either a RAM/Hardware issue, Disk needs Repair, or some glith in downloading.

I've been dabbling in the Powershell BizTalk Provider Extensions for some automation of deployment and such. So far it's pretty cool on a local machine, but the real benefits to me would be to do it remotely. Does anyone have any experience in the with the
following issue?
My BizTalk Server and SQL Servers are on separate machines which I think is the issue, but I don't know how to resolve. I've tried to provided credentials to the New-PSDrive command, but get the following errors:
The provider does not support the use of credentials. Perform the operation again without specifying credentials.
I'm trying to manage a remote BizTalk instance. The machine running the script has biztalk fully configured and can connect
to the Target Server just fine. The issue comes when I try to mount the "BizTalk:" drive
Enter-pssession -computername myServer -configurationname microsoft.powershell32
$InitializeDefaultBTSDrive = $false;
Remove-PSSnapin -Name BizTalkfactory.PowerShell.Extensions;
Add-PSSnapin -Name BizTalkfactory.PowerShell.Extensions;
New-PSDrive -Name BizTalk -PSProvider BizTalk -Root "BizTalk:\" -Instance mySqlServer -Database BizTalkMgmtDb -Scope Global
When it get to the New-PSDrive I get the following error:
New-PSDrive : Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
+ CategoryInfo : InvalidArgument: (BizTalk:PSDriveInfo) [New-PSDrive], BtsException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : 0,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.NewPSDriveCommand
Has anyone experienced this and solved? The same error occurs when use Invoke-Command as well.It seems that the PowerShell provider is not Microsoft Support, it is community supported through the CodePlex site -
http://psbiztalk.codeplex.com
Right, I posted there as well, but there is not much movement on the site. I was hoping to find if this larger community may have had some experience with the provider. -
Corsair pen drive mounting but not visible on desktop
Hi there
I'm having a problem or two with a MacBook Pro. The Corsair USB2 pen drive I've been using quite happily for some time now appears at first glance to have stopped mounting itself when it's plugged in.
I've taken a look in disk utility and the drive appears there so hopefully I'm right in assuming that it's mounting correctly. Also by clicking the volume from disk utility I'm able to browse the drive, so what have I done?
Is it possible to hide a mounted drive? It isn't visible in finder either, only through disk utility.
Any help would be grand.
Thanks in advance

ThanksHi,
You have customers who are running distributed transactions using a gateway which need to be rolled back. However, the gateway has not been correctly configured for distributed transactions. To roll back a transaction on the SQL*Server database a connection is made as the user defined in the parameter HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT in the gateway init<sid>.ora file but this user has not been created in the SQL*Server database with the password defined in HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD. This user also needs to own the transaction log table.
I assume you are using the Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4MSQL) as the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) doesn't support distributed transaction.
If you have access to My Oracle Support have a look at this note -
How to Setup DG4MSQL to Use Distributed Transactions (Doc ID 227011.1)
Otherwise, check the Gateway documentation.

Usb block for pen drives/ usb storage but not for iphone, ipad & itouch
is there any way to block USB ports for pen drives/ usb storage so that we can confirm that no data is being leaked ?
can we allow only iphone, itouch or ipad to connect from USB ports ?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to deploy a Windows Embedded Standard 7 (trial key at the moment) image in SCCM 2012 SP1 with a very simple task sequence.
I have a 'build and capture' and an OSD TS. I'm testing these on Hyper-V PCs and both work fine when i create stand alone media. The problem arrises when I try to deploy (or build & capture) with a bootable media;
The TS starts, formats the disk, applies the OS, Windows and network settings, Apply Device Drivers etc., but when it reboots into Windows
(or WES7 to be exact) it cant boot. The Windows Boot Manager reports a 0xc0000359 for storvsc.sys
And I can't figure out what's wrong. I will post the SMSTS log further down below. The SAME TS works fine when it's a stand alone media.
I have tried to:
- Apply the WIM manually (nothing wrong - boots fine)
- Create and apply driver package for the Hyper-V machines (from the MSI's Windows5.x-HyperVIntegrationServices-x86 and Windows5.x-HyperVIntegrationServices-x64)
- No dice
- Create a new boot image with the hyper-v drivers in it. No dice
- Google everything related I can think of.
I suspect it has something to do with the lines where it says:
"Failed to find a suitable device driver for device xxx”
It also has a couple of 401 errors when trying to get the packages, but it seems like it DOES end up getting the content.
Please help! What could it be?
I have 2 Hyper-V machines; one w. legacy network adapter - one not. Both have same issue.

USB pen drive mounts not seen in system.log. Why?
Any idea why USB pen drive mounts are not loogged in system.log? A WD Paasport drive mount shows up in system.log. Any idea why this is the case and how it can tracked/logged?
It would be nice to have a record of any externals that are being mounted on an OS X client by a user.
MacMini Mac OS X (10.4.9)Ok, that's it. I read a few posts in the "...SuperDrive won't accept my CD.." section. and it seems some people are just swapping optical drives like mad, ready to accept that the kit is crap, and "...oh, well, I sure hope this one works better...".
But one guy had the brains to have a look inside. Turns out dust had accumulated in the drive and on the connectors, and when he cleaned them, and unplugged and replugged them, it worked fine. So that's what I did. Took it out and put it back in. Amazing the stuff I cleared out! I also un- and re-plugged the power cable and the data ribbon at the mutha board and bingo!. We have disk, and I can breathe again.
Recommend to others they pretend they've bought a new drive, do a remove and reinstall and be very fastidious. You may not need a new one after all. I just love it that stuff can still be FIXED!
Thanks to Lou and all of you who share your experiences. It's like my brain is suddenly soooo huge... -

Thanks.Hi Dave,
better USB support is on the roadmap of Sun Ray Software.
CAC card authentication is not a feature of Sun Ray Connector for VMware View Manager 1.1 (the update); The good news is that the planning for the v1.2 has already started to get this in.
cheers
