Mount OES Linux NSS to remote OES Linux NSS?

Have an issue where I dont have an evault backup agent on a new server I created yet. Both servers are running NSS and both are Oes2sp2. Is it possible to mount a (ready only?) directory from one server so it shows up on the other and is able to be backed up?
"fs-storage" is the one with the evault agent
"fs-attorney" is the remote server i want to backup. (fs-attorney/media/nss/DATA/atty
DATA being volume name.
Thanks

Kevin, have you experienced the same issue with restores? and did you fix with the auto mount?
I get a lot of "items added to download" in the post office logs.. then things just seem to stop. no more information in the log files and the threads just seem "stuck".
Hey Joe,
Yes, lately (maybe the last 3 months or so) we've had issues even across the LAN (like two servers sitting next to each other) where ncpmount just "disconnects". This makes restoring things REALLY fun (not!!)
I'm not sure if it's maybe the watchdog packets killing the connection or what.
I've not tried the automount thingy yet. I forgot about it. Anyway, just printed out the stuff and we'll give it a whirl.
Note: This is with OES2 SP3 32 and 64-bit. I've even tried patching things to the latest patches to no avail.

Hello I am newbie on this forum.
Have somebody mount a OES11.2-Nss-Vol on a SLES11.3 via NFS successfully?
I trying this since 3 days. without success.
Can somebody say, what parameter I need in /etc/exports and what I need into /etc/fstab?

I can't speak for the OP. But for us its compartmentalization. That's why we do it. It makes cleaning up the most likely compromises significantly easier.

  • Mount in linux

    created a directory
    /oracle/apps/vIs
to mount this directory is this the correct command
    mount /oracle/apps/vis

(unless i didnot understand you correctly)
if you create the directoy and you can access it there is no need to mount it. mount is to mount a new harddisk or usb disk to a path in the linux server but since you already carate the vis and you can access it and it has a space then there is no need to run the command mount

  • 10.6.2 breaks AFP mount from linux

I have two network shares on a linux machine as I have insufficient space on my iMac - the iMac disk is 250GB, my music share with my iTunes library is 100G and my pictures share with my Aperture photos is 300G. The linux box exports the two shares using AFP.
Let's imagine that my user name on my iMac is xxx and the user who owns the files on the linux box is yyy (these are not the real user names ...).
Prior to 10.6.2, if I connect to the shares as xxx, then they would mount read only. In order to use them for their intended purpose, I had to connect as yyy so that I would have read/write permissions.
After upgrading to 10.6.2, the shares mount as read only regardless of what user name I use when mounting them. This means that they are no longer usable for their intended purpose.
The same fault occurs on my iMac and my MacBook Air after upgrading to 10.6.2. The linux server was running continuously during the upgrade - no reboot, no change in configuration, no other processes touching the files, no permission changes.
One of the things listed at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3874 *About the Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update* is:
_Network file systems fixes provided for_:
    * compatibility with third-party AFP servers
In my case, this change has broken the functionality I need.

Barney-15E: Thanks for pointing out that other thread, I'll keep an eye on it.
I'm not sure what you are suggesting I do. What I can see in the sharing preferences pane is information about what the Mac OS X box is exporting. The shares that are giving me trouble are mounted by the Mac OS X systems, not exported by them. They are exported by a linux box. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, which does not help.

  • Does file share preview support NFS for mounting in linux?

I've been experimenting with the file share preview and realized that cifs doesn't really support a true file share, allowing proper permissions.
Is it possible to use the file share with NFS?
    thanks
    Ricardo

    RicardoK,
No, you can't mount an Azure file share via NFS. Azure file shares only support CIFS (SMB version 2.1). Although it doesn't support NFS you can still mount it to a Linux system via CIFS. Install the "cifs-utils" package ("apt-get
install cifs-utils" on Ubuntu). You can then mount it manually like this:
    $ mount -t cifs \\\\mystorage.blob.core.windows.net\\mydata /mnt/mydata -o vers=2.1,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,username=mystorageaccount,password=<apikeygoeshere>
Or you can add it to your /etc/fstab to have it mounted automatically at boot. Add the following line to your /etc/fstab file:
    //mystorage.blob.core.windows.net/mydata /mnt/mydata cifs vers=2.1,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,username=mystorageaccount,password=<apikeygoeshere>
It's not as good as having a real NFS export, but it's as good as you can get using Azure Storage at the moment. If you truly want NFS storage in Azure, the best approach is to create a Linux VM that you configure as an NFS file server and create NFS
exports that can be mounted on all of your Linux servers.

  • Mapping shared disk mount in Linux

    Hi ,
We are using shared disk for our SOA clustered environment, everything is working fine, even disk sharing between two servers are fine, issues is when ever we reboot servers, mounting node 1 disk to node2 always disappearing, i have to manually mount disk in node 2, is there any way to automate to mount the disk after reboot in node 2.

    hi,
it's a bit not clear to me - would you please describe how you managed to map other drives/volumes?
    please post

Are you using multipath or ASMlib?

  • Hi, please help me.... i have the problem to mount the linux home directory to my snow leapord mac mini

    hi please help me

Linux uses a EXT drive/partition format that OS X or Windows can't read.
    Far as I know, there isn't a easy GUI/auto method/software that I can recommend.
My advice would be to use a MBR with FAT32 or exFAT as a intermediate universal exchange format on a seperate drive or USB key.
Most USB keys and drives already come FAT32 MBR formatted,

  • How can I mount a large sparsebundle (450GB) remotely without it hanging?

I have remote access to my Time Capsule set up and am able to see my files. Files on the drive I have no issue accessing, albeit slowly.  Unfortunately, however, the files I need to access are stored in a large backup file.
What I'm hoping is that there is a way to unpackage the sparsebundle locally to the Time Capsule or to extract a subset of files, as attempts to mount the sparsebundle remotely hang and eventually lockup Finder.
    Any suggestions?

Sorry but no.. Apple says specifically not to do this. The Time Machine backup should not be accessed remotely and it is unsuitable to use or recover from..
There is no way to extract the files.. The simple fact is Time Machine is on the computer.. it is not on the Time Capsule.. the file on the Time Capsule is merely the backup. There are zero smarts.
If you want to access files you should setup BTMM to the Mac not the TC. Or use remote desktop or a service like TeamViewer.

  • Mount CD to UNIX server remotely.

I need some help in emergency. I want to add some software package from Solaris 10 CD remotely to UNIX Sparc machine. I can remotely access into the machine. Question is: how do I insert Solaris 10 CD in my laptop, then mount to UNIX machine remotely and add software package. Please give me the specific steps. Many thanks in advance.

If you can't FTP a file between the servers (presumably because of a firewall or physical network disconnect) then there's little chance you'll be able to remote mount a CD with any protocol.
If the CD contains just a cpio file then get it there however you have access (RFC 1149 -- TCP/IP over avian carrier?), put it somewhere on the local file system (/tmp, /home, /var/crash, whatever...) and do with it whatever is necessary for your process.
Unlike Windows, being "on a CD" is nothing special for Solaris -- it's just another file system like /tmp, only it's read-only.

  • Mount Network Shares (Share Points) Remotely

Am I going to need a VPN for this or is there another, easier method?
I have OS X Server at my small business; am looking at remote solutions. Timbuktu is OK for control but I really want to be able to access certain volumes and folders as if I was "right there"...

You dont need timbuktu to control OSX server screen sharing is now built in.
The most secure way to do what you want it to use ssh tunneling. You dont need vpn. with ssh you could run screen sharing and apple filesharing through the ssh tunnel.
By default remote login is enabled in osx server. Being a server if configured correctly it will have a static ip address.
So configure your office networks router to forward tcp port 22 from the internet to the ip address of your server.
Then you need an account on the server, maybe you are already the admin account.
open your terminal the following commands will setup a tunnel for file sharing and screen sharing.
    screen sharing tunnel
    ssh user@server -L 5901:localhost:5900
replace server with the actual public IP address of your office internet connection. replace user with the actual account name on the server.
Once logged in open the screen sharing app and use a host name of localhost:5901
    for file sharing use
    ssh user@server -L 5548:localhost:548
    once logged in
press command +K and in the server address use localhost:5548
    that is it.

  • ORA-15032 when mounting a diskgroup in a remote node

    Hi all,
    Oracle 10g R2 (10.2.0.4)
    Windows 2003 SP2 Server
I successfully went through the steps of creating an Oracle RAC of two nodes rac1 and rac2 till I reached to creating ASM step.
To create an ASM, I issused dbca from rac1 and created an ASM instance. The issue appeared when I created the Diskgroup.
After selecting the disk and clicking on OK, I got the following error:
    http://www.ahmedbaraka.com/temp/errorsnapshot.png
Following are the generated log files in rac1:
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\cfgtoollogs\dbca\trace.log http://www.ahmedbaraka.com/temp/trace.log
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\log\rac1\racg\ora.rac1.ASM1.asm.log http://www.ahmedbaraka.com/temp/ora.rac1.ASM1.asm.log
Following are the generated log files in rac2:
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\bdump\alert_+asm2.log http://www.ahmedbaraka.com/temp/alertasm2.log
Any hint is appreciated as I'm stuck with this for a couple of days.

    Hi Philippe Florent,
You were right about the version, so I applied the patch and redid the procedure. Unfortunately, I still face exactly the same error.
I also made sure when I make changes on a disk in rac1 (in Windows level), it is automatically seen by rac2.
Below are links of the new logs and pfiles:

  • Mounting NSS Cluster Volumes on other Linux Nodes

    Hi,
have anyone experience how to mount OES NSS Cluster Volumes on other
    Linux Servers (SLES/RedHat/Centos)?
Traditional i would say i have to use NFS, but did this run fine on OES
    Cluster Volumes?
How must i do this here, what are the recommend mount options?
Documentation say do it "native to Linux"???
    hmm, how?
How should i write the /etc/exports file on OES Cluster Nodes(should
these look same on all Cluster Nodes)?
What happen on Resource Failover, should nfsd restarted?
    Have anyone running this?
    Regards
    Thomas

Since you're using NSS in a clustered setup, I am assuming you're using just NCP?
I'm not sure if the ncpmount or the NCL (Novell Client for Linux) work on anything other than the Suse platforms (you mentioned RHEL and CentOS).
Otherwise you MAY be able to also run CIFS to "publish" the NSS volume and then you should be able to use native SMB connection methods to connect from the other linux OS's.
I would probably avoid NFS only because it has no concept of file locking (or at least doesn't seem to care) and may happily overwrite a file that's in use by someone with NCP access.

  • Mounting Remote Folder on a Linux ?

    Hi,
Is it possible to remotely mount a Linux volume on a mac?
(reverse of what was asked on Mounting Remote Folder on a iMac ? )
    Thanks

You can download the installers (GPL) for Fuse and SSHFS for Mac OS X 10.5 or later from:
    http://osxfuse.github.com/
Then open the Terminal.app and type sshsf... same as under Linux. Check the Finder Preferences to enable connected servers to see mounted volumes on the desktop.
Please note this is not a Mac OS X forum.

  • Mounting an Apple disk image (Intel Mac) under other Unixes/Linux

    Hello,
I have started my MacBook in HDD Mode and connected it via Firewire-Cable to my "Main-Server" (Slackware Linux 11.0).
From there i created a "Disk-Image" from my MacBooks HDD using "dd"
I can mount the disk image within OS X without any problems, but i can´t mount it on the Linuxbox.
I have used this cmd under Linux : "mount -o loop -t hpfs image.dmg /mnt/tmp" But i am getting an error saying that it doesn´t seem to be a Apple File System Image.
I have made sure that support for Apple FS is "compiled-in" in the Linux-Kernel. If i do a file image.dmg i get this:
    x86 boot sector; partition 1: ID=0xee, starthead 254, startsector 1, 117210232 sectors, extended partition table (last)\011
Does anyone know how i can mount this image under Linux?
    Thanks,
    tyrtux.

I can't offer any solution yet, but here's a bit of information that might prove useful in understanding the problem.
"mount" on Linux mounts file systems, not disk images. A disk image is just that -- a bit-for-bit image of the sectors on what would be a physical disk. A file system is a portion of a disk structured in a specific way -- a section set aside for managing free space, a "root" directory, etc.
A partition is a logical subdivision of a disk. Usually, each file system on a disk completely fills one partition; but partitions may overlap, and one partition may contain any number of file systems.
A disk -- and therefore a disk image -- contains, within its first physical sector, a partition map. The map includes the start sector, size, and type of each partition. The type usually hints at what the file system -- if any -- of the associated partition is.
When you connect a physical drive to a Linux system -- be it IDE, SCSI, USB, or CD-ROM -- Linux scans the partition table. You can then use mount to get access to individual file systems on the device. When you use "mount -o loop", you are asking mount to connect a loopback device to a file that represents not a disk -- but a file system. This is why your attempt is failing; the disk image doesn't look like a file system, it looks like a disk -- it has a partition table of its own.
You might be able to map the file to a drive for VmWare, and access it from the virtual machine. Otherwise, I'd hunt around for software that deals with complete disk images, not just file systems.
