Mount SAPDATA files

Hi friends,
As we are going for an implementation of ECC6.0 on Oracle 10g on AIX5.3
In the prerequisites after creeating a File system, its recommended to mount the SAPDATA file system.
I would like to know why is it mandatory and what would be the effect if we dont keep these sapdata1, sapdata2, sapdata3, sapdata4 unmounted
Regards
Ayush

Hi RK,
Thanks for your valuable suggestion that made us aware that apart from sapdata1,sapdata2, sapdata3, sapdata4... we also have to mount the FS mentioned below
/sapmnt/<SID>
/usr/sap/<SID>
/usr/sap/trans
Also there are few more mount points which are listed below do you think i need to mount them also
/home
/var
/usr
/opt
/tmp
/oracle
/oracle/<SID>
/oracle/client
/oracle/<SID>/102_64
/oracle/stage/102_64
/oracle/<SID>/sapreorg
/oracle/<SID>/origlogA
/oracle/<SID>/origlogB
/oracle/<SID>/mirrlogA
/oracle/<SID>/mirrlogA
/oracle/<SID>/oraarch
/sapcd           (used for dumping the sap DVD's)
I am confused about the above mentioned File System, Do i have to mount these File Systems also ?
Please advice as i have to begin my installations from today onwards.

Ayush

  • Mount vhdx file from Windows Server Backup 2012

We have a 2012 server with a network share that other servers backup to using Windows Server Backup.  To view the files from a windows 2008 r2 backup .vhd file all I have to do is open it in windows explorer and it mounts as a drive and opens.  When
I try to do the same with a 2012 backup (.vhdx) it tells me "you don't have permission to mount the file" but if I open disk management I can see the volume, and if I right click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and add
a drive letter, then I can browse it.  I get the same issue using mount-vhd in powershell.

    Hi Adm1nMikeW,
Please try to use disk management --> action --> attach VHD (this way will  avoid  the error message).
The root cause is the attribute "nodefaultdriveletter" of the backup vhd was not set to "no".
You can try following setps :
    1. in cmd prompt type diskpart
    2. recognize the problematic volume you want to set via list volume
    3. run command select volume "volume number"
    4. run command attributes volume clear nodefaultdriveletter
then detach it and reattach the disk again .
    Hope this helps

  • Portal on Unix cannot mount Windows File server

    Hi Experts,
We had installed a NW 7.0 portal onto HP-UNIX server and integrated it with MS AD server. Now, we are facing an issue that we cannot mount windows files server when we tried to configured it with TREX. Had anyone tried this function or it is the limitation? Is the following statement still correct or do we have workaround solutions?
"If you are using the Microsoft Active Directory Service, you can only integrate documents into a Windows portal. The combination of Microsoft Active Directory Service and a UNIX portal is not supported."
    Best Regards

    Hi Tom,
have a look at this link:
Your issue should work, but the prerequisite is for using the windows permissions:
"If you are using Microsoft Active Directory Service, you have to operate the Windows domain in mixed mode". If it is running in Native mode you cannot use the windows permissions. Nevertheless integrating documents into KM should work. The KM uses its own permissions instead.

  • Move SAPDATA files from one drive to another

    Hi,
I have a DR server running on Windows 2003 and Oracle 10.2.
The SAPDATA drive Z is running out of space and I need to move it to a bigger drive.
The server has two RAID 5 interfaces where all the disks are located i.e Disk 0 and Disk 1.
    Below is the plan:
    1)     create a new drive K in Disk 1
    2)     manually copy all SAPDATA files from old drive Z (located in Disk 0) to drive K
    3)     rename the old drive Z in Disk 0 to another alphabet
    4)     rename the new drive K to Z
Start the server and SAP services and there should not be any issues for SAP in recognizing the "new" enlarged drive Z,
    do you agree?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Yes this will work. You can proceed.
But make sure that you take a backup before proceeding further.

    Hi,
This problem may occur for one or more of the following reasons:
A USB media reader device is attached to the computer.
Removable media is mounted in the computer.
The .iso file that you are trying to mount is a sparse file.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.
    Resolution 1
Copy the ISO file to a new file by saving it to a different folder or giving it a different name.
This should remove the sparse attribute and enable the file to be mounted.
    Resolution 2
If you have a flash media reader or any removable media, try to eject the removable media. Then, reassign the drive letters in such a manner that you leave a lower drive letter available to mount the ISO image. The file might not behave correctly if it has
an assigned drive that follows other drives.

  • Spurious error: "You don't have permission to mount the file" on mounting an ISO from Explorer, but it works anyway

I can mount ISO files from the context menu in Explorer with the new functionality. It works very well.
However, I have a strange issue with the Microsoft "Linux IC v3.2.ISO" file downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28188
    Mounting it shows this error:
But then it seems to mount as a new drive just fine and it is usable. I can also eject it ok.
I don't have this error with any other ISO. I've tried downloading it twice to different locations, same error. The permissions on the file are normal, same as the other ISOs.

I have the same problem with my Windows 8 Pro OS.

  • Mounting vdi files. Usefull for VirtualBox users.

I found a little gem (I think so at least): a couple of programs to mount vdi files, the hard drives of Sun VirtualMachine.
At the moment the program does not mount at all if the image is not of fixed size: if there is interest I might change it so it mounts read only.
I found it extremely useful to put files inside the hard drives.
    Here is the package.
    Comments welcome.

I keep my vdi images on a separate partition along with other shared documents and run them on both i686 and x86_64 distributions. So if this is what you mean, the answer is 'yes'.
Edit: All my virtual systems are 32 bit.

  • Create Prestaged Media task sequence fail - Failed to mount WIM file (0x80070002) & Failed to create media (0x80070002)

    Hi there
Experiencing an OSD task sequence failure.
The failure messages at the end are:
Failed to mount WIM file (0x80070002)
    Failed to create media (0x80070002)
Have looked into this, however 0x80070002 appears to be a generic error code which can cover a variety of problems.
One thing I'm not sure about at all is the CreateTempDirectory process. I'm not sure about this because the Temp Directory it creates is, according to Task32, stored in a cached profile which no longer exists on the machine I'm running the SCCM console from.
    Could this be a problem?
Looking at the CreateTSmedia.log via task32, these lines are viewable:
    CreateTSMedia
    Requested output path: C:\temp
    CreateTempDirectory
    Temp Directory C:\DOCUME~1\PROFILE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\_tsmedia_1612 created
That path cannot exist because that profile is no longer present on the machine - so where exactly is the task sequence storing these temp files??
Can someone confirm if this Temp Directory path is vital to the task sequence successfully completing or not, and if it IS important how to set the Temp Directory?
    Thank
    John

Ok, can rule out the issue with Temp Directory path.
Uninstalled SCCM admin console, defined new temp and tmp folders in env var, installed SCCM admin console, started another PreStage media job, failed again with same errors.
Failed to mount WIM file 0x80070002
    Failed to create media 0x80070002
CreatTSMedia failed with error 0x80070002 details MediaGenerator
Can't figure out what 'The system cannot find the file specified' means, the temp files are clearly being created during the media creation process and I have local administrator rights to the machine I am using.

  • SAPDATA file is full.

    Hi Basis Gurus,
I have doubts regarding SAPDATA files
    1. What do we need to do if the SAPDATA files ( for example sapdata7 and sapdata8 ) are full.
( My environment is Oracle and Win2k )
    2. What are the important SAPDATA files?
    3. Is every SAPDATA file important or only the first few are important?
Can you please throw some light on these questions.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sachin.

I know this is bit rude of posting my question, but i have the same problem. One server with two instance 1) RET 2) REP
I believe the sapdata space for RET is alomost over. Please suggest by how much should I increase.Or can I delete these SAPDATA space?
Moreover the /dump and /oracle/REP is also over. Should I increase that also.
I don't know which are the tranactional logs among these.

  • 10.4.4: Can't mount .dmg files or access iDisk

Shortly after updating to 10.4.4 I noticed that my daily automated backups (using Backup 3) weren't working any more. I also found that I couldn't access the iDisk via the Finder icon, or via the Go > iDisk > My iDisk option in Finder. I can still upload to my iDisk using iWeb.
I'm now also unable to mount .dmg files. When I open them in Finder or try to mount them using Disk Utility I get an error message saying that there are 'no child processes'.
What can I do about these issues? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Solved , by installing the 10.4.4 combo update!

  • Can't mount .dmg files

I'm new to the Mac. I have "inherited" the machine I'm using from the prior users. It's running OS X 10.2. I have several .dmg files that I'd like to mount so that I can run the programs that they supposedly contain. So far I have succeeded in mounting these files ("volumes"?) only with the root (superuser) account. When I log out of that account, those volumes are gone, of course. I cannot mount these volumes with an "ordinary" admin account. When I try that, the system sort of "blinks" but nothing else happens. And the goal here is to give access to these programs to youngsters who will be using a non-admin account. My assumption here is that the problem lies with me -- not with the system.

I see that this thread has been going for several days so you may have already tried this, but I'll throw it out there just in case...
Occasionally (for me anyway) some part of the underlying mechanism that performs disk image mounting will just suddenly go south. I'll double-click a dmg file, it'll look like it's going to open but then nothing ever appears on the desktop. The only way to get it back in working order is to reboot...
... so if you haven't rebooted your machine recently try that and see if it makes any difference. If this doesn't help you might also want to use Disk Utility to do a "Repair Permissions" on your boot drive... it could be that a permission problem is not allowing the mounting tools to run for anyone except for root.
Upgrading to a more recent version of the OS is a good idea if you've got access to or the money for a newer version of the OS.
From what I understand about the wheel group it's basically more restrictive than the admin group. It's root's default group, but users with admin privileges are not in the wheel group (at least not in more recent versions of OS X). Use of the wheel group was slightly more prevalent in earlier versions of OS X and administrative users were members of both the admin group and the wheel group. But that's not true any more. Since at least 10.3 files with root/wheel ownership are typically those that admins can tinker with if they really need to but only after taking the additional step of using sudo to elevate their privileges.

  • Files disappearing from mounted .DMG files

Hi, I've had this issue occur a few times in Tiger and I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this and if there's a known workaround. Sometimes, when browsing a disk image, or, less commonly, a physical disc like a CD, files in the Finder will seem to disappear from the image/disk when clicked on. First the filenames will go, then the files themselves, and evidently those files then become unreadable in general as applications can't access them. I don't get any error messages; it's just like the filesystem on that disk eats itself away and vanishes. I can unmount the disk without any issue.
I'm having this problem right now with any disk image I mount on my XServe -- it goes through the "Verify" step just fine, shows up on my desktop, I can browse and even open files, but inevitably within a very short period of time the above occurs, and it becomes useless. I KNOW it can't be the .dmg file that's the problem, because if I share the .dmg over Personal File Sharing and mount it from another Mac, this problem does NOT occur. It's just on the one Mac hosting the files. Any idea what this could mean, and what could solve it?
Also, I know a lot of times a restart will cure this weird little glitches, but I would really like a solution, if you know what I mean... particularly on a server, I cannot afford to restart whenever I have a problem.

Sounds like you have run into a very strange, and unfortunately no uncommon, bug involving file systems from either servers or FAT 32 mounted external drives. See this discussion:

  • SAP R/3 4.6C Installation in HPUX with 4 sapdata files

    Hi all,
We are building a sandbox system to perform our upgrade.
While installing SAP R/3 4.6c, in HPUX/Oracle 10g, we need to have only 4 sapdata filesystem:
    Oracle/DV1/sapdata1
    Oracle/DV1/sapdata2
    Oracle/DV1/sapdata3
    Oracle/DV1/sapdata4.
But while doing the installation it creates sapdata5 & sapdata6. But we don't want to have sapdata5 & sapdata6.
We need to do the installation within the 4 sapdata filesystems itself.
Can any one help me how and where to edit, so that the installation will fit withing the 4 sapdata FS itself.
    Thanks
    Senthil

    Hi Srini,
If you are using sapinst tool you should be able to delete unavailable sapdatas easily in ur sapinst input DB parameters section, I also had the  same issue.
Optional, you may be already aware it can also be solved by creating sapdata directories under /oracle/<SID>/... at OS level but be careful data files created will fall under your parent dir.
    regards,
    Vamshi.
