I just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac and now i cant open iPhoto.  I get an error message 'iPhoto quit unexpectantly', and it will not reopen.  Any ideas on how to open iPhoto?

thanks.  I already have version 9.3.2 which says it is compatible with mountain lion, and no other update for iphoto is available

  • HT2638 I tried absolutely every trick, from reinstalling Mountain lion and iPhoto to buying iPhoto library Manager. NOTHING worked

Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup.
I went through all the repair/rebuild options when pressing cmd/optn and pressing the iphoto icon
I reinstralled Mountain Lion, ran software update, reinsalled Iphoto and ran software update,
I restored old copies of the iphoto library from Time Machine.
I bought Iphoto Library Manager and tried to retrieved and/or rebuild the library
ABSOLUTELY nothing worked and I still get this error message.
I went to the Apple store in Geneva and they told me that deleting Iphoto, reinstalling it and running software update will fix it. It didn't
Can anyone please help or shed some light on what could be wrong ?
OSX 10.8.2 and Iphoto 9.4.2 on Mac Pro 15 in

Library Manager opens the Iphoto Library and I can see all of the photos, about 12,500 of them. But when I open Iphoto afterwards, I get the error message again "Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup."
I tried to create a new Iphoto Library using Library Manager, but LM was unable to create one as it needed to access Iphoto back and forth and Iphoto would not allow it access because of the error, therefore LM was unable to create a new clean library.
After opening the iphoto LIbrary within the Library Manager, I opened Iphoto and tried to repair/rebuild etc.. without success.
The problem first occured after I upgraded my Iphone to IO6.02 then I transferred my Iphone photos to Iphotos. I alo synced the Iphone with itunes.
Thank you for looking into this on Christmas day !!!!

  • Constant Crashing of iPhoto after updating to Mountain Lion and iPhoto 11

I recently updated to Mountain Lion and also to iPhoto 11. iPhoto crashes constantly. From reading other posts I opened while holding the option key and started a new library. It seemed to work then, but now what do I do to get my old photos?

That is a test and it shows that the application is ok. The problem is with your library. Not to data (the library)
So the next thing is to see if we can fix your library. Go back to your main library and post the first 50 lines of  the crash log. Also any error message, recent changes, any other observations that might help

  • Mountain Lion and iPhoto?

I installed Mountain Lion a few days ago and decided to use iPhoto today. I went to launch it and got an error message "You can't open the application "iPhoto.app" because it may be damaged or incomplete".  So I downloaded the iPhoto 9.3.2 update but it will not let me install it. It says I need iPhoto 9.1 or later.
My previous operating system was Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and it was fully up to date.
I tried to see if I could reintall just iPhoto from the Mountain Lion download but it just wanted me to completly reintall all of Mountain Lion again.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Update:  I just downloaded iPhoto Library Manager to see if rebuilding the Library might help.  When I select Rebuild Library it says, "This library cannot be rebuilt because its XML file contains no image records."

  • HELP... after Mountain Lion and iPhoto software update. My library was updating and then corrupted

Smooth update to ML and then ran software udate. It suggested I update iPhoto. I did that and then restarted computer and then tried to open iPhoto. It told me that it would update my library and not be able to go back to an earlier version. I clicked okay. Part way through an error window came up saying that my library was corrupted and that I need to go to a back up.  I have most on a back up, but not all. Can I trouble shoot this library or open the package and remove the most recent photos I need to my older back up?
Please advise - I really like the ML until this happened.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

HELP!! i have a ton of videos of my boys stored in iPhoto..They played fine on my old OSX system (leopard).  However, I just upgraded to snow leopard and then to mountain lion and now i can't open my videos at all anymore.  HELP!!

Can you tell us about one or more of the video files - what are they?  QuickTime?  MP4?  Something else?  How did you create the video files in the first place?
I do a lot of video and when I upgraded to Snow Leopard I discovered that many of the QT videos that I had created previously (via iMovie & Final Cut) would not play correctly in QuickTime X - the bizarre behavior was that QT X acted as if my video files were only audio files!  I reported this to Apple at the time but never heard anything back, and there hasn't been any change in later updates to QT X.
The solution was to (re)install QuickTime 7.  But first look in your Applications > Utilities folder.  When you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the installer normally moves the old QT 7 program to your Utilities folder.  If it's there, try using QT 7 to play one of your video files.    If QT 7 is not there, you can download and install it from here  Make sure you are running at least OS X 10.6.3 before you install QT 7.  It's even better if you make sure you are running 10.6.8 which was the last release of Snow Leopard.

  • Before Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.4 Iphoto libraries would show up as a project.  Can I still have this feature?

Before Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.4 Iphoto libraries would show up as a project.  Can I still have this feature?  I want to keep my iphoto libraries on another drive but now it appears the only way I can have Aperture search all libraries for a photo is to merge the aperture library with all the iphoto libraries. In the past the photos were referenced photos in their orginal libraries but now we are creating one big aperture library.  Does this make sense?  I liked the old way were the iphoto libraries showed up in the left window as a project.  Does anyone know of a work around?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

    Dear  MAC-Friends.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
I am extremely afraid to do something wrong - what will be a failure so I loose all the photos I had in my iphoto library before installing the Mountain Lion.
I have just installed the MOUNTAIN-LION and now I can´t use my Iphoto-programme without answering the following question:
Choose another Library ?  ( But I only want the choose the photos which one was in the old iPhoto-Library and not the other photos on the MAC-computer ? ).
    and the other possibility is:
    Create a new Libray ! Which iPhoto-library  ?
And why create a new and to risq to loose the old photos.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
    Kind regards  FINN GRABOWSKI

Ok. Let me first ask you, do you have any backups of your files - for example, do you use Time Machine or any other backup system?
Next, quit iPhoto. In the Finder, go to your Pictures folder. Is there a file there called iPhoto.Library? How large is it? (If it doesn't show the size, click once on it, click cmd-I to see the information). If it's a healthy size (ie, several GB), then that should be your library, and you can double-click it to launch iPhoto. (The application will remember where your library is next time, you can just launch iPhoto normally).
If that's not the right file, check your Trash. Is there anything in there?
    Matt

  • I have just upgraded to mountain lion and now can not use iphoto how do I get to my photos?

iPhoto just has a no entry sign on it after up dating to mountain lion how do I now use iPhoto please?

    Hi Anitra,
Did you updated from OSX Lion to Mountain Lion? And iPhoto was installed on your Mac? Then iPhoto and the Library must still be on your Mac.
Go to finder and slect 'Applications'. iPhoto must be in that folder. Open iPhoto. See what happens. Are all your pictures/events displayed?
If not, please reply and we will try to locate the iPhoto Library.

I have upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion and updated Iphoto to latest, however, I still can not access photos sent to me via photo stream. what else do I need to do? I'm $30 into this effort, and no results!

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • Mail and iPhoto not working well with Mountain Lion..

Is it true that Mountain Lion has been a big disappointment?
I am helping a friend with his computer and what it is doing is NOT normal. He has Mountain Lion, I have read not very nice reviews. Mail and iPhoto are not comunicating properly; 'sleep mode' takes forever  and other small bugs that I am not used to having with a Mac. Any advice? Thanks!

    Any advice?
Sure. Here's some advice. If you have a question ask it. Give detail. Explain what the problem or issue actually is. Don't editorialise, just ask the question.

Not having a media card in your BlackBerry may affect your ability to transfer media files onto it. There is a file size limit of 2.86MB when transferring files into device memory. http://bbry.lv/9XNuy0
Have you verified that the applications you are trying to install are supported by your current wireless provider? Unlocked devices from one provider may not have full functionality on another network.

    Launch the Terminal application.
Inside the Terminal, run sudo update_dyld_shared_cache -force
    When prompted, enter your password.
