Mountain Lion 10.8.2 update failed on MacBook Pro

This morning I used the Mac App Store to apply the latest Mountain Lion update along with Evernote and XCode updates. They installed, prompted me to restart and when I did I was greeted with a progress bar during startup. This gets about a quarter of the way through, then dissappears and the MacBook turns off. When I power on the laptop again, I get the progress bar again, it gets a quarter of the way through and powers off again.
This is the first time I've had a problem with my Mac in over 2 years so I'm not too sure where to even begin diagnosing the problem.
Any help is appreciated.

I had a similar issue, but the update wouldn't install via the app store, it just kept saying something must be wrong with the file, so I downloaded it from Apple's website. That was a mistake. When I installed it from the downloaded file, it corrupted my machine, as it seems it has with yours.
I tried booting into the recovery partition and running disk repar, but that told me I needed to backup and buy a new hard drive. Which I found funny since everything's been running fine up until the install (I'm on a MBP Mid-2010).
Long story short, I ended up having to reformat and restore from a TimeMachine backup. Everything's working fine now, and disk utility is reporting no problems.

When trying to update getting (error surle error domain error-1100). It started yesterday, any help would be great. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a new macbook pro with retina display.

There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Note that if you are trying to download iTunes 10.7, that can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576
Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available.

Hi! is it possible that Logic X has upgrades that work only with mavericks and does t work in mountain lion....since in my macbook pro with mavericks i have new views of the equalizer, etc and in my mac pro with mountain lion it still the old view...

Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.

  • HT5730 OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 messed up my MacBook Pro

I just recently updated my MacBook Pro to 10.8.4 and now Safari, Messages, iTunes, and the App Store don't work. They "Shut down unexpectedly" as soon as I click on them.

Consider this with any OS update, major or not:
D/load Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner and:
    1) perform:
    - permission repair
    - prebinding rebuilding
    - scripts cleaning
    Restart if needed.
    2) Relaunch MLCC and clean all caches deeply.
Restart. it will be slow but it also willlbe getting faster while working.
    Cheers

  • How do I get Mountain Lion for free if I bought my Macbook Pro at the right time?

So I got my Macbook Pro a few weeks ago and I was told I'd be getting Mountain Lion for free. How do I go about this on the app store?

  • The Mountain Lion Won't Install On My 2010 MacBook Pro

After I downloaded the Mountain Lion; it won't install because it says my hard drive is on a back up drive for the time machine. I've never used Time Machine and I only have one hard drive. I wasn't able to locate a backup file for time machine. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

  • Does Mountain Lion really decrease batter life on a Macbook Pro that much?

I have an early 2011 15 inch. I want to use Apple TV to project my desktop.

Mountain Lion doesn't decrease the battery life in any noticable way when doing basic computing sort of things. Air Play to the Apple TV does tend to use up the battery a bit faster, so it's probably a good idea to plug it in if you intend to stream for a long period of time. Otherwise, don't worry about it too much.

  • Is Mountain Lion the most current operating system for MacBook Pro?

I am wondering if Mountain Lion is the most current operating system for the MacBook Pro.  I am under the impression that 'Mavericks' is for the desktop Mac, am I correct?  Thank You.

Actually, Mavericks is the current version of OS X replacing Mountain Lion. Mavericks will be replaced later this year by Yosemite. The upgrade to Mavericks is free. You can download the installer from the App Store.

  • IPhone/Ipad software update fail on MacBook Pro

Apologies in advance that this will be a bit convoluted. I Try to keep it concise.
I am trying to update my iPhone/iPad to latest software version 4.3.3. This works fine on my MacBook Air, but not on my MacBook Pro (First i& version, early 2010).
I phoned Mac support and been through all their check lists (Transfer purchases, backup, sync, turn off firewall, etc.). I have used disk repair, cocktail and Clean-my-Mac. I have removed everything form the startup menu in the admin account (which I am using) and have disabled/removed all security software.
I am still getting the following error message, after itunes has gone through extracting the software and syncing the device:
"The iPhone "xxx" cannot be updated at this time because the iPhone software server could not be contacted or is temporaily unavailable." (see shot below).
As I am using the same wireless router/network connection for the MacBook Air (which as I said updates fine), it is not likely to caused by router settings, but rather something on the MacBook Pro. As I uses it as my main machine and where i keep my Itunes library, I would like to be able to perform the software updates for the iDevices from there.
Has anyone had the same problem, and possibly a solution. Thanks in advance.

This was first posted on MacBook Pro forum, but it was suggested the me to repost it in both the iphone and ipad forum; apologies if this leads to duplication

    Thanks Nick,
    I will try this now.
Any idea though what would the MacBook Pro prevent the auto update, when the MacBook Air has no issues whatsoever. I want to avoid reinstalling the OS, maybe a re-install of iTunes might help.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Cheers,

  • Mountain Lion 10.8.1 Update BRICKED My Macbook Air

On my previously perfectly functioning 2011 Macbook Air (1 month out of warranty, yay!).  Saw that there was an update available for OSX, clicked Update, and it told me it needed to restart.
After reboot, nothing.  No Apple logo, just a blank gray screen.  I waited a couple of hours to restart (holding down the power button), thinking it might just be taking a while to apply the update.  After powering up again, nothing but a gray screen.  Tried safe mode and resetting PRAM, nothing.
Took the machine to the Genius Bar and they couldn't do any of the typical fixes to make it boot either.  Said they had to send it off for off-site service (for a flat fee of $280).  What choice did I have?  Apparently it's fixed now, and I can't wait to hear what kind of excuse they have for how their update didn't kill my computer.
If it isn't hardware-based, I will be very unhappy, though I'm sure they'll find some way to blame it on hardware.

Apparently they ended up replacing both the logic board and the SSD, so $280 is kind of a bargain, unless of course you consider that the machine is barely over a year old.
    Thanks for your attention mende1.

  • Just updated my iPad 2 to OS7 and now I can't connect it to iTunes 10 on my MacBook OS 10.5.8 My MacBook can't be updated to Mountain Lion as it is early 2008 white MacBook

Just updated my iPad 2 to OS7 and now I can't connect it to iTunes 10 on my MacBook OS 10.5.8
My MacBook is too old and  can't be updated to Mountain Lion as it is early 2008 white MacBook.
It all worked perfectly prior to updating the iPad 2 to OS7.
There were no cautions or warnings
    Are there any work arounds?
Can I uninstall OS7 and go back to OS6?
Rediculous thing is I can connect to iTunes on an old PC of the same age

Thanks for your comments but this doesn't help my situation at all.
Again Apple fails to provide backward support for its own products.
I could go to the trouble of hacking the MacBook and running Mountain Lion and iTunes 11 that way
I think I will just move across to a PC as a result of this Apple strategy and I think I will just give up on Apples short lived product strategy.
A laptop that lasts five years indicates a long lived product strategy.  Where they go wrong is to prevent backwards strategy when someone genuinely cannot live with ios7 like you. even the "unsupported" downgrade has now been blocked.
Don't go windows,  you will not get five good years from a dell or an asus. If you can't buy Mountain Lion for it,  get a new macbook, enjoy.
