Mountain lion 10.8.3 - repair your Library

Hi,
I have recently run the Mountain Lion 10.8.3 update.
Since it restarted, a window saying "Mac OS X needs to repair your library to run applications. Type your password to allow this."
I type my password, but about 10 seconds later the same window pops back up.
Also, my iPhoto won't open since the update.
Help please!

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
find ~ $TMPDIR.. $ -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl $ 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

There is nothing to overcome, your mac is too old to run Mountain Lion. For an iMac it must be a (Mid 2007 or newer) http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/

HT2638 I tried absolutely every trick, from reinstalling Mountain lion and iPhoto to buying iPhoto library Manager. NOTHING worked

I went through all the repair/rebuild options when pressing cmd/optn and pressing the iphoto icon
I reinstralled Mountain Lion, ran software update, reinsalled Iphoto and ran software update,
I restored old copies of the iphoto library from Time Machine.
I bought Iphoto Library Manager and tried to retrieved and/or rebuild the library
ABSOLUTELY nothing worked and I still get this error message.
I went to the Apple store in Geneva and they told me that deleting Iphoto, reinstalling it and running software update will fix it. It didn't

OSX 10.8.2 and Iphoto 9.4.2 on Mac Pro 15 in

Library Manager opens the Iphoto Library and I can see all of the photos, about 12,500 of them. But when I open Iphoto afterwards, I get the error message again "Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup."
I tried to create a new Iphoto Library using Library Manager, but LM was unable to create one as it needed to access Iphoto back and forth and Iphoto would not allow it access because of the error, therefore LM was unable to create a new clean library.
After opening the iphoto LIbrary within the Library Manager, I opened Iphoto and tried to repair/rebuild etc.. without success.
The problem first occured after I upgraded my Iphone to IO6.02 then I transferred my Iphone photos to Iphotos. I alo synced the Iphone with itunes.

OK it goes like this:
It seems to be a bug. iTunes recognized that I have Version 10.6.1 and offers me a Download to 10.6.3
the app softwareupdate instad says im already up to date and there ist nothing to download.. ???
So i went to the Apple Homepage and looked after 10.6.3 over Safari.
I downloaded it manually, after installing everything was like before.

Mountain Lion can't find my iTunes library

I installed Mountain Lion. It said that it couldn't open iTunes because my iTunes library was on a drive that was locked. I changed the permissions on the drive. (I have four internal drives in my Mac Pro.) I opened iTunes. I opened Preferences. I opened Advanced. I clicked "Change" and found my iTunes library. I clicked OK. iTunes shows two songs. When I click "Change" I see thousands of songs in my iTunes library. Why aren't my songs accessible in iTunes?
When I change iTunes libraries a box appears that asks "Would you like iTunes to move and rename the files in your new iTunes Media folder to match the 'Keep iTunes Media folder organized' preference?" What does that mean?

I would delete the unnecessary files but I don't know what's needed and what's not.
I have "copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library" selected, which gives me self contained libraries and all I have to do to delete one, is to chuck the whole iTunes folder. I can also move any of my iTunes folders to anywhere that way and just use the option button to select them.
If the libraries/iTunes folders are really empty (i.e. not just iTunes not seeing them when opened - you can always check via the Finder) there should be no problem deleting them.
I mean, what if I had other libraries I wanted to choose from?
By default iTunes puts a library folder into ~/Music
If you wanted another one, you'd just launch iTunes with the option button pressed and selected it.

I'm in a huge mess. Mountain Lion on one, three chimes your a lady.

I have two BIG problems.
Problem number one. I have a MacBookPro -2010 for my work. My tech guy sends me the code for the new Mountain Lion. I download it, it appears to be installing and then does the "your hard disk is damaged" thing like so many of the other threads. I have a CD of Snow Leapord, but if I remember correctly that doesn't include the App Store software, so how the heck to I restore it to my last OSLion 10.7.4 ( I think that's what it was?)
Problem number two. My personal MacBook Pro, Late 2008 15" model is bumming out. I kept crashing with imovie after it's update, so found the culprit, still moving a little slow and so I decided to do a few of the minor fixes, like the PRAM resett, disk utility, unseating the battery, and unseating the memory. Now, it won't boot up at all and I get three chimes. Knock three chimes on the ceiling if you want me, twice on the....never mind. Note, I did NOT download the Mountain Lion for this machine.
Any help on either one would be greatly appreciated. I really need files on these machines, since I was in the middle of getting ready for school in Sept. And no...the backup was on my to do list.

If you've installed the Mac OS X Mountain Lion and want to restore your MacBook to factory settings, what do you do?

Havinig a lot of problems with my MacBook since I've upgraded to the Mac OS X Mountain Lion program. Can someone tell me if it's possible to reset my computer back to factory settings?

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
       A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
       B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
          1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
          2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
          3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
              side.
          4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
              sure to opt for that.
               Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
               startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
          1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
          2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
          3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
          4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
          5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
     A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
          1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
          2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
          3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
              Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
          4. Install OS X.
          5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
          6. Shutdown the computer.
     B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
         Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
                   it is three times faster than wireless.
          1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
              Utilities window appears.
          2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
          3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
              on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
          4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
              and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
          5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
          6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
          7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
          8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

OS X needs to repair your Library to run application

I bought a new MBA (MacBook Air) and power up. To make life easy, I used the migration assistant (MA) to transfer from MacBook Pro 13. The migration completed after the second attempt. I login the my account and tried to do some testing and immediately I get the above error message.
For example, I launch Pages, it prompt to Enter the password so that it can repair the library BUT nothing happens. The next time I tried to open Pages, it won't launch AT ALL. Repair disk permission after the repair disk permission showed many ACL .... kind of message.
I can't launch iTunes, it say "The folder iTunes cannot be found........." and it asked me to create a new one or choose....
This is not the intended result I expect as when I was using on the MBP13. What is wrong with the migration assistant? It is suppose to make my life sweet but now I am a fireman

Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.

Mountain lion we could not complete your purchase

Anybody else experiencing this problem? Rebooted and able to download Aperture update but can't get Mountain Lion!

Mountain Lion installation failed, cannot repair HD, cannot pick a destination for Time Machine backup

It seems I am not alone in the failure of installing Mountain Lion. I am using a mid 2010 MacBook Pro, had Lion installed, tried upgrading to Mountain Lion. Like so many others I am getting errors, can't repair disk, etc. I do have Time Machine backups, and can go select the most recent one, but when I get to the screen to select a destination, there is nothing to select.
What are my options for restoring to my last good backup? My Lion OS was also from the app store. I believe I had either Leopard or Snow Leopard when I first bought my MBP, but not 100% sure. I am just extremely frustrated and while I know I have been doing backups to the Time Capsule, if I can't get one of those to restore, will I be able to get to the files it backed up if I have to completely erase and start over with a lower OS?

At some point I was finally able to get the recovery from the Disk Utility menu, once I threw in an older OSX DVD (Snow Leopard.) Once I could get to my files, I copied just the folders/files I wanted from my HD to an external drive, then went back in through Disk Utility, erased everything and when I went to reload, it did an online recovery and actually grabbed my copy of Mountain Lion and installed it without a hitch. I figured it was going to reload the older OS but apparently since I had already purchased Mountain Lion, the online recovery retrieved that from the cloud?? Anyway, once that installed and I added back on what I wanted, it's like I have a new MacBook. No other issues once I installed. I did have to get an update for one of my programs, Final Draft, but so far everything else is running. Seems the erase and clean install was the best way to go. Thanks!

If I purchase mountain lion on my itunes/app store account, can I use that same account on my other mac to download mountain lion without paying another $19.99? I am currently waiting for my email for a free copy but If i can do multiple downlaods without paying extra, I would rather purchase it so I can download mountain lion on my ineligible computer and my newer one too

yes, you can install ML on all the macs you own as long as you use the same Mac App Store ID singing into each of them.

Os x needs to repair your library

I keep getting this pop-up after the Mavericks upgrade. If I reboot, I get it on the same app I originally got it before the reboot. Disk Utility doesn't fix it.
I am also getting icloud, App Store and Apple ID login screens for passwords that should have been in Keychain, but are no longer there. Additionally, I am getting ME.com login requests... I thought iCloud replaced ME.com.
I am starting to think that Steve Jobs is the only person that kept Apple from being just another Microsoft.
To all Apple developers and management. Please revert back to the "old ways" of releasing software. Test, Test and then Test once more to make sure these issues are not issues whether product is FREE or not. You all own stock in Apple, don't you?

Mavericks has, by the way, been in testing for months. That we're not seeing multiple reports of this particular problem in these forums are indicative that this is a problem with your system, perhaps one that pre-existed the upgrade but which was triggered or magnified by the upgrade or which is due to an incompatible application component, not a widespread issue with Mavericks.

Error message claims" iphoto quit unexpectedly"?

you either need to run software update once more (there was a major update for a lot of iLife apps when ML came out for support with ML).
or you need to reinstall ML from the recovery partition after running disk utility and verifing and repairing disks and permissions.
hold CMD R to get into the recovery partition during the boot chime.

Where are my saved Keyboards shortcuts in Illustrator CS6 on a Mac (Mountain Lion)?

I can't find my .kys file to backup?
Any ideas where I can find it in OSX Mountain Lion?

It's in your user folder/Lbrary/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6
The library folder in the user folder is hidden on Mac OS. Search Google on how to show it and thank Apple for this great idea.

Use Mac While Mountain Lion Is Downloading?

Does anyone know if you can actively use your Mac while Mac OS 10.8 is downloading? More importantly, does the installer require a manual prompt before the actual installation process?
I would normally be able to leave my MacBook Pro alone while it downloaded/installed such an OS upgrade, but am in a bit of a bind with work for the next few days and bound by a much slower Internet connection, so the download process could take almost a day! It would be a pain in the a** to suddenly loose functionality at a critical time. Oh, how I miss the old days of installer discs and the ability to manage software installation more efficiently...

If you are using a slow internet connection to download Mountain Lion, best to not use your Mac at the same time to free up system resources. It's a 4.34GB file. If your download sped is approximately 15Mbps, that takes about 2 and a half hours. Anything less, then the download could time out before it's finished.
Keep in mind, if you need to repair the startup disk or reinstall the OS X, you would need to use Lion Recovery which requires broadband (high speed) access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.
