Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.
AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)
But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?
In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.
Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

I agree, what is the point of making an operating system compatible with a particular computer and then arbitrarily disabling the most meaningful features. It seems like Apple is once again forcing us to wastefully update equipment through less than honest means. Any update they have should have a clear list of what will not be relevant to you with te equipment you are using. I would not have purchased Mountail Lion if I had been aware that AirPlay would not work. And before someone tells me that I just needed to check to look and it was clear. I went so far as to make sure my graphics card was compatible. Which is really the only thing I can see being a reasonable excuse for disabling a feature such as this.

  • Yosemite AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working.

I've been using AirParrot to transfer movies on my older computer to my Apple TV.   My new iMac,  using Yosemite 10.10.3, has AirPlay. However, I can't turn "mirroring" on.  Why?   New Mac specifications: 21.5" iMac, Processor 2.9GHz,  Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB.

    Greetings barbiebb,
If you are having an issue with AirPlay Mirroring between your iMac and your Apple TV not functioning as expected, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • OS X Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring

AirPlay Mirroring is advertised to work on ANY early 2011 or later MacBook Pro. I bought my MacBook Pro on 2-22-2011 yet I am unable to get AirPlay Mirroring working. I made sure that my MacBook Pro SHOULD be able to use AirPlay Mirroring BEFORE I bought Mountain Lion, and to be honest, I feel I was ripped off, because, as far as I can tell my MacBook Pro is perfectly capable of using AirPlay Mirroring however I am not able to.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).

mountain lion download interrupted and resume button not working

From the App Store menu bar top of your screen, click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.
You may need to temporarily disable anti virus software to download apps from the App Store including Mountain Lion.
Make sure your Mac qualifies to run Mountain Lion >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.

If your mac is eligible it'll be in settings-display toward the bottom an airplay menu will allow you to select your apple tv.

  • Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring doesn't work on newest MBP

    Hello,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro Mid 2012 with OS X Mountain Lion installed. When Apple TV is available, there is an AirPlay icon in the menu bar. When I enable AirPlay Mirroring, my Apple TV turns into black but sound is streaming. No image at all. I tried different screen resolutions but none of them works, my TV supports 1080p and my Apple TV is 3rd generation with newest software (5.0.2). When the AirPlay Mirroring is enabled, there is a high upload speed so I believe the image is actually streaming. And there is no update for my Mac system. When I use iTunes to play a video, then that video can show up on the Apple TV, but besides that, mirroring doesn't work. My Apple TV has no issue when working with iPhone and iPad AirPlay. Do you have any ideas about this? Thank you so much!

    Hey,
I have the exact same problem. Read at least a dozen forums, and wasted 3 hours solving it.
Finally, a simple 'restart' solved my problem....
    Hope it will for you.

  • Mountain Lion Airplay Mirroring keeps trying to mirror

I've been having a problem since upgrading to 10.8 on my Macbook Pro (early 2012).  When I bring up a website that has sound, or open an .wav email attachment for preview, the Airplay system is activated, and it asks me for a password to one of our AppleTV's.  If I cancel the dialog, or if I enter a password, it doesn't matter, Airplay has already been selected as the sound out device, and I can't hear the sound.  The only way around it, is to open display preferences and turn airplay mirroring off.  Then the sound is restored to my speakers.  But, the next time I open a sound, or a website, I'm back at square one.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there some way to stop this?

You can remove the Logmein sound driver.
You will no longer be able to hear your Mac from your remote machine.
    Start Terminal and paste:
    sudo kextunload /system/library/extensions/logmeinsounddriver64.kext
I did this long time ago because I was having sound problems on Lion.

  • Mountain Lion, AirPlay Mirroring, and multiple monitors - how to choose display?

I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.1 with two external monitors connected via Thunderbolt.  I have a 3rd-gen Apple TV on the same network.  I can turn on AirPlay Mirroring and my primary monitor will display on my TV.  However, I would like another monitor mirrored instead.  I have looked but can't seem to find a setting to choose which monitor is mirrored.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

  • Mountain Lion Mac Mini Server Ethernet Port Not Working

I have a Mac Mini Server and once I upgraded to Mountain Lion Server the Ethernet port is unresponsive. It worked before upgrading. Is there something with Mountain Lion Server that is causing the Ethernet port not to work properly?

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Have down loaded Yosemite over Mountain Lion. Indesign CS 5 is not working and requests Java script CE6. Apple stated Java 10 , but it still does not operate although Bridge works so as Light room and Photo Elements. How do I solve this problem

Have down loaded Yosemite over Mountain Lion. Indesign CS5 does not operate although Bridge, Light room and also Photoshop elements operate OK A sub menu from Indesign request Java SE 6, after a long play with Apple  I end up with Java 10 How can I solve this problem rapidly. Pity apple do not test there products before offering them to the public. It costs us. Many thanks Davi E-C

It isn't Apple's job to ensure third party software works with a new OS. But Java 6 is here:

  • Airplay, mirroring, homeshareing, remote is not working

Got the new apple tv (3) and iPad3. Airplay and mirroring is not working (the option doesn't appear on the iPad) Home shareing is not working either. Software is latest on all devices and they are connecting to the same wifi. What can be the problem? Tried already rebooting the modem, and devices. Thanks...

Ok, so I read that I should do a reset. I tried that. The remote still only beeps when I press menu/play, and once I pair it nothing works at all. I actually did get the pairing icon to show up, but once it did that, all functionality stopped. Now I can't even use my iPhone. It only sees my music library. So I have a paper weight...  cannot control with remote, or iPhone, or iPad. It wants me to go into a menu and enable home sharing, which I can't do since I can't control it at all. I've googled this until I'm blue in the face, nothing is coming up, just the same fixes, and at least before I could use my iPhone to control it, now I can't use it at all. I wish Apple had some sort of tech support beyond going to a store. Strongly considering going back to Roku after this.

  • Mountain Lion Airplay Mirroring Sound Issue

I'm having an issue with airplaying online videos. Everything works fine at first, but then the sound will start to get really choppy to the point where I can't hear it anymore. This is with running the sound through the tv. When I pause the video and then press play again it starts to work fine, then after 2-3 min it will start getting choppy again. Same sort of thing happens when listening to sites like pandora etc.
Once the sound starts to get choppy it seems like adjusting the volume exacerbates the issue.
Was super stoked about airplay feature, but this is really annoying. Any suggestions on fixes?

Having the same issue here. Airport Extreme, current gen AppleTV, 2.3Ghz i7 Macbook Pro.
