Downloaded the latest Mountain Lion dirrct from Apple but it will not install due to being correupt

You'll probably need to delete it from the applications folder first. Once you've done that, go back to your Purchases tab in the Mac App Store. Agree with ^ that doing this over a reliable internet connection will minimize complications.

Since purchasing I have received the bill from Apple outlining I have purchased the item. But nothing has happened as yet. It looks stuck, and at this point, you probably ought to cancel the download and start it over again. (No worries about paying again... once you buy something in the App Store, you own it for as long as it stays in the store and can re-download it all you like.)
Also, before you consider installing the upgrade, note that there are some things you should do:
1) Check all your software for compatibility with the new system.
2) Repair the hard drive with Disk Utility.
3) Make a full backup of your whole system using Time Machine.
4) Ideally, make a second full backup of your whole system using something else, like Carbon Copy Cloner. (I consider two backups to be the minimum.)
5) Wait until you have time to deal with any possible problems that crop up.
6) Install the upgrade.
Some people recommend erasing your hard drive and installing the new system "cleanly." That certainly helps ensure that you don't have any problems with the new system, but is often unnecessary. I prefer to save clean installs for when they are actually necessary, but that is only an opinion. You can certainly choose to do a clean install if you prefer.

I tried to download Mountain Lion from the App Store also. I have an excellent high speed connection but the Mountain Lion icon goes to my dock and sometimes it says...Waiting>> and sometimes it says ..Dowloading...but after a few minutes the icon disappaears and no new OS on the computer. Apple already took my money but i dont have an new OS. For years I have downloaded movies easily from iTunes but lately some of the larger/newest/most popular ones suddenly simply wont download and yet I am charged and the only thing that Apple support says it is my internet connection. But my connection has been checked by my IT guy and it is good and it works on everything but these Apple downloads so is Apple not saying something like...the new movies or the new OS dont download sometimes if the internet traffic is high or have they had troubles like this for lots of people? etc At any rate it is frustrating.

Mountain Lion - Cannot download additional components???

My MacPRO (2008) was running like clock work, but recently a gremlin has appeared. I have been on this forum before and so far all information has been really useful. The mac would start up and shutdown in one motion. I didn't even have enough time to bypass or boot from an alternate drive so it was off to the mac centre to find the cause. Weirdly enough they found nothing wrong and it was good to go. I decided this might be an opportunity to rebuild from scratch and so my 4 drives I zeroed the data and tried to reload Mac OSX 10.8. It starts all well and good before stopping after a few minutes and flagging a problem "cannot download additional components". What is causing this and how do i get around the problem. I would take it back to service centre but have lost confidence in there competency since everytime I take it there it comes out worse than it went in.

Did you get to the point where you have downloaded the entire package from AppStore?
Save the ESD package and prepare an install disk and do a clean install.
Usually - there was one person recently here but cannot find buried in a thread, they had 10.8.2 and the installer is 10.8.3.
What are you running now?
As for the original problem, for which no problem was found... are you using an SSD to boot the system?
How to do clean install of Mountain is same as was for Lion, with how to clone a system.
Make sure you have 8GB flash drive, or even a small (16-32GB) partition (yes, you can setup an installer to run from hard disk drives to do a clean install to another drive or partition).

From the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
If that doesn't help, disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband (high speed internet) access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

Just bought the mountain lion app for my macbook 6.1 and it says it is downloading but nothing is actually happening. What do I do?

That's normal. Do you see a loading bar under AppStore on your Dock. As long as there is a loading bar, it eventually moves. If absolutely noothing happens for a half an hour restart your Mac and the DL should pick up from where it left off.

Thanks for your prompt reply...but is there no solution to it...since the file download is almost 4.34gb..its a long download..internet is bound to go down for a while in such a long download..and whenever the net goes down for a minute or two I pause the download and restart..but everytime I restart it starts from the beginning...i believe for the earlier version i.e. Lion pause function was enabled and download used to begin from I have paused...I then successfully downloaded lion on the same internet network I now use at my home..Please help if you can or ne1 can..Many Thanks!!!

To try and stop it happening again you can use Settings > General > Restrictions on the device to prevent in-app purchases being made, and you might (depending upon its iOS version) also have a 'Require Password' option on the Restrictions screen that you can set to 'Immediately' so that your account's password has to be entered for each download from the store.

Since latest OSX versions the upgrades are checked in App Store and the download of the upgrade follows in App Store.
I have checked with latest OS upgrade (10.8.1 and 10.8.2) and also now with Aperture 3.4.1 that the download time inside App Store is twice longer compared with a direct download from Apple. More interesting is that the download gives me a file that I can use to upgrade not only my iMac but also my Mac Book Pro.
The upgrade notification in App Store reached my Mac while the related file is not to befound in the italian Apple site but if I change to us I immediately find the file.

Yes, OS X updates from the Apple Downloads page will work. If your version of Aperture is from the MAS, the update from the MAS should not be able to update it, that is for the previously sold boxed software.
