Mountain lion audio trouble

hi
im on a 27"imac i7 chip 2011.
audio out is unreliable still after 10.8.1 update. Any app that makes a noise is affected. the audio is just not stable. crackles, little gaps or stutters.Ive compared some of the same audiofiles to double check  n the iphone and they are smooth. Its making checking music mixes for any defects impossible as i cant trust the imac suddenly.
Its something i was hoping the update would fix but not so. As a music writer its unworkable. The previous Lion worked well on this machine.I cant see how something this fundamental slipped through plus I see many other similar mentions of this online. i dont have lion as it was shipped in the machine. Seems crazy to have to search out a previous operating sytem for something like this. Anyway its a complicated proceedure to reinstall it and I shouldnt have to.
Any ideas?

Ok,
If you have apple care and you can reproduce the issue off the bat, then I would make an appointment and go in and show them.
If you click on the little magnifying glass on the top right of your main screen (cmd+spacebar) and type in Audio Midi Setup, you might find that your settings are just too high for your digital out.
Turning these down to a lower Hz may yield you a more reliable signal.
The best signal will come from a cable that is made with glass.
Most tosling cables are made from a polymer which isn't as reliable with digital toslink.
Other then that, what it seems like your issue is, is an electrical thing.
You can install Lion onto an external hard drive and test to see if it still happens in that drive.
You can also make a new user, log into it, and then see if the issue still happens there. if it doesn't it means you may have had a faulty installation.
Another thing could be that you need to repair disks and permissions before reinstalling ML.
you can do this in the recovery partition right before you reinstall ML or in Disk utilty.

  • Is there a fix for Mountain Lion audio output settings after the laptop goes to sleep and wakes back up?

Mac Book Pro running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5 after the notebook sleeps audio and video does work (for example on YouTube).  I have been able to temporarily work around this by toggling the settings on Built-in Output in Audio Midi Setup, Audio window between 2ch-20bit Integer and 2ch-24bit Integer.  But this is a temporary fix until the laptop sleeps again.
When it's not working, all system sounds (emails "dings", delete file "swish", etc.) are silenced, and video playbacks on YouTube and elsewhere freeze and have no audio until the Audio Output settings are toggled then they all immediately start working.
Has anyone encountered the same?  Have a long term fix for this annoyance?
I cannot upgrade the OS to 10.9 Mavericks yet because of a corporate policy - there is some conflict with 10.9 and our corporate VPN connection.

  • Mountain Lion download trouble

I have the new MacBook Pro retina and I am eligible for down loading Mountain Lion for free and I have the code from Apple but when I enter it into the app store it won't work. HELP!!

Are you entering the content code that you got in the first email?  What you need to do is take the content code from the first email then go to the 2nd email you received and open the pdf file, it will ask for a password. Enter the content code in the password field and it will produce your actual redemption code.

  • MacBook Pro 3,1 (Mid/Late 2007) running Mountain Lion audio issue?

    Hello Everyone,
A few months ago, I installed the ML (Golden Master) over my copy of Lion. Lion was running great prior to install. After the upgrade, everything ran perfect, but I was having issues with both Ableton Live, Logic, iTunes and audio/video being played in Safari. The audio would stutter and even 'bit degrade' to a point nothing could be heard anymore. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. When running Ableton or Logic, songs would play fine, but randomly, my CPU would start spiking to ridiculously high amounts and audio would cut in and out. I had never had this issue previous to me installing ML. I upgraded multiple times as new updates for ML came out, eventually ending with 10.8.3. None of the updates fixed the issue. I was just curious if anyone else was having this issue with the same MacBook Pro model? Any insight would be great!

I guess I'm confused. I had the ML Golden Master. Isn't that the same as the intial release version? Previous to installing that, I was running Lion. What do you mean by 'erase the boot volume'?

  • Problems with Sinn7 Audio USB Interface on Mountain Lion

    Hi Guys.
I have problems with my USB Audio Interface Sinn7 Status 24/96 on Mountain Lion system.
When i istalled drivers, system doesn't detect the card. After the system reboot, when i pluck the card in to usb, system makes a kernel panic.
My hardware: MacBook Pro 15'' Late 2011 / OS X Mountain Lion / Audio Interface: Sinn7 Status 24/96.

    Hey DSevenPL,
Have you sorted this issue yet? I'm having the same problem on my mid 2012 Macbook Pro.
I had been running the sound card earlier on the same machine that you have (late 2011) w/out a problem but then got the new machine and it wouldn't read the sound card. Same issues as you.
Months of searching has turned up with nothing (and Sinn is unresponsive) so any insight would be greatly appreciated!

  • Mountain lion cant read drives??

Anyone find that mountain lion has trouble reading external drives such as STARDOM drives. It can find the drive, but no directory comes up???

Yes it is still connected to the network
I can ping it, i can reach it and as i said before i see it correctly in the finder on the left bar but
the icon is vanished from the desktop and so also from the other programs: Adobe Bridge for example
So I have to click again on the icon in the finder to mount it again

  • Previewing audio in Mountain Lion is slow and choppy

    Hi!
I'm a music producer and therefore i have countless gigabytes of drum snippets. Now, on my old macbook that runs snow leopard i can browse through all the audio files super quick (by hitting space and go into preview mode), but when i got my imac with mountain lion i just cant do it anymore. What happens in mountain lion is that it takes like 1 second  to load one audio file.. Which is unacceptable since i have thousands of files.. And if i'm preview one file then jump to another one, then jump back, it kind of start previewing in the middle of that sound. SUPER FRUSTRATING! I'm sorry for the bad description of my problem, but maybe if any of you experience the same problem and know a solution, please let me know.
    Thanks

EDIT: Also, if a audio snippet is very short, mountain lion will just skip it, it won't even play.

  • Hi i upgrade from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am getting no sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

  • Audio Problem since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Has anyone encountered audio problems with their iMac?  I just upgraded to Mountain Lion on my i7 27" with 16GB of Ram and found that the Audio starts to get distorted and eventually cuts out after about an hour!  It starts cutting in and out when I move the mouse and eventually there will be no sound at all!
Sometimes it can take over an hour of steady use, my last time was watching a movie on Netflix.  I initially noticed this using a USB DAC Headphone Amp.
I never had any Audio problems before, my machine is over 1 year old.
I enjoy watching movies in iTunes and DVDs, but this is making it difficult!  A full restart usually fixes the problem for a time but it will eventually come back
I'm seriously thinking of going back to Lion for the time being and seeing if it is a Hardware problem.

i don't know if mine is the same issue, but i had no sound through any of my applications after upgrading to mountain lion.  here is what i had to do to fix it:
-- applications > utilities > audio midi setup > UNmute all options under "built-in output" (they were mysteriously muted)
Also, I noticed that the options for "use this device for sound output" and "play alerts & sound effects through this device" were no longer assigned to my Built-in Output device.  They were assigned to some other random sound driver.  To fix, i right-clicked on Built-in Output and reassigned those items to my built in speakers.  All fixed now!
    very weird problem, though.

Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

  • Has anyone else had Mountain Lion 10.8.2 file copying trouble?

Has anyone had any trouble with file copying to external disks?
I have used a third party programme called "Synchronize! Pro X" (SyncPX) for many years with OS X up to 10.5.8 and it has never given any trouble at all.  In July I bought a new MacBook Pro 15", upgraded to 10.8.1 and bought the latest update for SyncPX (6.5.1).  This worked perfectly as far as I know until I downloaded the 10.8.2 Mountain Lion upgrade about a week ago.
    The symptoms are:
    1) When files are copied in backup mode (running as a single user, updating only files that have changed) to an external disk using Firewire, a high percentage of them do not have their file information copied correctly.  The "Last modified" date is often set to the time that the copy was made rather than being replaced with the  "Last modified" date from the source file.  Also, "further information" is sometimes not copied.
    2)  When files are copied in "Full bootable backup" mode (SyncPX runs "as root", copies files from ALL users and tries to set owner and group to be same as source file), the same symptoms as in (1) occur, but also SyncPX hangs right at the end of copying.  Sometimes it says "Updating dyld cache…", sometimes "Updating aliases…".  When this happens it is impossible to halt SyncPX except by forcing a quit, and then the external disc is not released so that it cannot be ejected except by forcing a shutdown.  In that case the external disk usually needs repairing.  The errors are always "incorrect number of extended attributes".
I have tried lots of things.
    a) Restart
    b) Reformatting the external disk and starting over.
    c) Reinstalling the system (after checking and repairing the main system disc), followed by (b)
    d) Turning off indexing for the external disc
    e) Repeating the test with a different external disk (to make sure it's not down to a faulty external disk)
    f) I have looked at Console logs but they do not indicate anything odd going on.
None of this makes any difference.  By contrast, a straight drag and drop copy from Finder works with no errors.
At this point you probably think the errors are SyncPX's fault.  But:
    i) The same version of SyncPX worked until 10.8.2 was released
ii) If the destination disk for a SyncPX backup is a network disk, everything works OK.
I started by taking the fault up with SyncPX's developer, Qdea.  One other user had noted a fault similar to (2).  Qdea maintain that there's nothing wrong with their code, and blame Apple's disc drivers.
On balance I think Qdea could be right, or at least Apple have changed some specifications but not told the developer world.
I haven't yet tried to take this up directly with Apple (through AppleCare) as I think they will probably wash their hands of it and blame the developer.  The point of this post is to see if anyone else has had a similar problem, perhaps with different software, and if there is anyone with sufficient experience to give advice on how to take this forward.  Is the case for an OS bug convincing or do others feel it's a fault with SyncPX alone?  If so how does one explain its perfect behaviour until 10.8.2?
What steps can I take to pin this down further?  All advice and comments will be gratefully received..

Dump Qdea for someone who knows how to write Mac software.
    1. Qdea displays the following logo: . This is a pre-MacOS X logo.
    2. Qdea displays the following review:
MacFixit had a good reputation, if you are old enough to remember when it used to exist.
    3. Qdea provides download links to SynchronizeX and version in French, German, and Japanese. Apparently they don't know that Mac software can be localized into a single executable.
I'm sure there are any number of similar utilities available, all of them cheaper than SynchronizeX's $99.99 price.

  • Using Mountain Lion iOS and audio output will not change from internal speakers to AppleTV so that sound can come from TV speakers, why??

I am using Mountain Lion iOS and trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my plasma TV using AppleTV and AirPlay mirroring.     The video does just fine.     However, there is no audio coming from the TV.     After activating AirPlay I try to select Apple TV as the audio output in System Preferences and it highlights it but then immediately goes back to Internal Speakers and only has sound coming from the MacBook Pro..
    What's going wrong ?????
    AJ

Are you sure that WIFI network doesn't have an AppleTV on it?  Just because you don't own it doesn't mean there isn't one on that network.  The laptop or better said the OS cannot differentiate between an AppleTV that you own or not.  If it sees one on the network, it will show you one as being available.  The automatic reconnection is happening probably because the last time you streamed to an AppleTV, you didn't drop that connection before sleeping the computer or shutting down iTunes.
