Mountain Lion--Can I delay use of content code/password?

The school I'm attending this fall administers tests via a program that will not be supported on Mountain Lion until Spring 2013. I have already acquired a content code and password for my macbook pro, but thankfully did not download Mountain Lion yet. I would like to download it Spring 2013, but I'm wondering if the content code and password will expire by then. Does anyone know if the information I have from apple now will still work months from now?

Were I you I would go ahead and download the installer application. After the installer launches simply Quit the installer and copy it to your Downloads folder for safe keeping. If you want to use Mountain Lion then create a new partition on your hard drive and install Mountain Lion on the new partition. You can then use OPTION booting to switch between operating systems.

  • Upgraded to Mountain Lion, can no longer use airplay

Last week I purchased Apple TV (I believe its 3rd Gen) and had it all working fine, until I decided to be 'clever' and upgrade to Mountain Lion so I could use the mirroring in AirPlay. Prior to the upgrade I could stream brilliantly through itunes, including movies, to the tv via our Apple TV.
After the upgrade iTunes intially kept popping up every time I would attempt to play a movie through airplay and say it couldn't find the Apple TV. After a few hours of pulling my hair out, restoring the Apple TV, restarting my MacBook a million times and whacking the keyboard for effect - the AirPlay icon has now totalling disappeared from iTunes. After a bit of investigation, I discovered that my Mac is actually mid 2010 and thus I understand incapable of mirroring through Mountain Lion! I've read that uninstalling Mountain Lion is actually more a case of wiping my laptop and starting again. I'm really hoping to avoid that!!
Is there a way I can still use AirPlay in iTunes with Mountain Lion and if so I'd appreciate some direction on how to get it working.

fixed - found out I had to turn off IGMP Proxy in my FiOS home router.  Why, I don't know.

  • Mountain Lion can't be used I can use Lion if I can get it

Hi I have 2 Apple Macs, a Mac book purchased 2007 and a Mac pro G5 I purchased as a refurbished unit in 2011 its build year 2006. to replace my G5 power mac as I was unable to upgrade to the next OS system as I could on my Mac book. This was to v10.5 (Leopard)
In 2011 When I purchased the second hand Mac pro I decided to upgrade to v10.7 (Lion)
But found I had to upgrade to v10.6 (Snow Leopard) first this I did no problem.
Due to various reasons I didn't get organised to upgrade to v10.7 (Lion) until early July but I noticed the next version was about to be released and I could upgrade from v10.6 (Snow Leopard) to v10.8 (Mountain Lion) so ok I can skip Lion.
I now find the just discovered Snow Leopard will not run on either of my computers Apple tech support said sorry the architecture was changed around 2008 (no publicity about that) but I could upgrade to v10.7 (Lion) and still get some improvement.
My problem is could not find where to purchase Lion which is only available as a download, it had been replaced by Mountain Lion. When I Contacted Apple sales they informed me that lion is no longer available, advised me upgrade my computers!!
why can't I get Lion it was there a couple of weeks ago ?
Older Software released prior to Jan 1,1998 in the US and worldwide is available

I'm largely in the same boat.  I'm running 10.6 and I bought both my computers on the cusp of the capability range apple listed.  I had no way of telling if they fell in the right category.  I looked for something that listed serial number ranges or some kind of app that would tell me if they would be compatible but found nothing that was definitive.  I even called Apple and they said it sounds like my computers will be fine. Saying things like "Mid/Late 2007 or newer" is hardly precise.  Needless to say I bought my Macbook Pro in mid 2007 and my Mac Pro in early 2008.  Both have turned out to not support 10.8.  I have no problem with that but would like to at least upgrade to 10.7.  10.6 is still available via phone sales but not 10.7.  Very fustrating.

    Hello,
If you just do a normal time machine backup on your macbook pro and then plug that harddrive into your new air; you should be able to just use migration assistant to transfer all your files. You wouldnt need to upgrade to mountain lion on your macbook pro.
    Hope it helps,

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

  • Is mountain lion can out put 10 bit colour? I nee to buy EIzo Monitor

Is mountain lion can out put 10 bit colour? I nee to buy EIzo Monitor.

No. OS X cannot do it. If you want to drive an Eizo at its full 10 bits per channel you need to use a Windows PC.

  • I've upgraded to mountain lion and now cannot use microsoft office--what happened?

I've upgraded to ox Mountain Lion and now cannot use any of my Microsoft office software.  What happened?

It appears that you upgraded your computer to Mountain Lion and were using Microsoft Office 2004.  In the short term, if you need to open and modify Word files, go to the file in the Finder and Control-Click on it.  A menu will come up: go to Open With... and select TextEdit.  This should allow you to open, modify and save the file for the short term.
You can do the same trick to open Microsoft Excel files in Preview and print them; but I do not think you can modify them in this way.
Workarounds for Microsoft Office 2004 since upgrading to Mountain Lion:
    1.  Upgrade to Microsoft Office 2011.  This version works in Mountain Lion.  However some of your legacy 2004 files may convert badly.
    2.  Restore the version of OS X that you were using before Mountain Lion.
    3.  Partition your hard drive and/or attach an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard on it and use the 'dual-boot' method of booting into Mountain Lion when you need it and booting into Snow Leopard when you need to run your PowerPC applications such as Microsoft Office 2004.
    4.  The method I use, which allows me to run my PowerPC applications concurrently with Lion:  I installed Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:

  • When submitting a target survey I get back an error.... I think this may be a safari problem or mountain lion problem as I used to be able to submit surveys on their survey site.

When submitting a target survey I get back an error.... I think this may be a safari problem or mountain lion problem as I used to be able to submit surveys on their survey site.  This problem occurs if I use my MacBook Pro or my iPad.  I want try  to win a 5000 gift card and can't win if I can't submit the survey.  It lets me fill out everything and only after I hit submit I receive an error.  Target says it's not their problem.  I curious to know if anyone else has tried and receive back an error after hitting the submit button.

Thanks.....I'll try that the next time I get a new receipt from target.  My old receipts are older than 72 hours now so I can't try Firefox with them.  I appreciate the response and will certainly try this and post a reply if I was successful in submitting the target survey.

  • Hi!  I just updated to Mountain Lion to make full use of iCloud, and I am attempting to turn on Photo Stream.  I currently have iPhoto '09, version 8.12, and think I need to update to iPhoto'11, but I'm reluctant to do this due to very bad reviews.

Hi!  I just updated to Mountain Lion to make full use of iCloud and am attempting to turn on PhotoStream.  I have iPhoto '09, version 8.12, so I think I need to upgrade to iPhoto '11.  I'm reluctant to do this as I've read a ton of bad reviews written by people who have purchased the new version.  Any suggestions?  Is it worth it?

Obviously only you can decide what is "worth it".  Millions and millions and millions of people use and like iPhoto '11.  Some don't. If you want PhotoStream then you must upgrade to the minimum software levels

  • Mountain Lion can't install but won't let me quit the installer!

Mountain Lion can't install but won't let me quit the installer! How can I get back to the desktop?

I was having the same problem with my iMac. Couldn't left click with the wireless mouse, i tried all the steps above to no avail. I then tried to use another mouse, this time bluetooth and still had the same problems. I decided to see if my trackpad, which sits in the corner of my desk and never gets used, and then i realize that my cat is lying on top of the trackpad which was causing my problem the whole time.
I hope your fix was as simple as mine.

  • Mountain Lion can't connect to account POP

Hi--I just upgraded to Mountain Lion on iMac (version mid-2011) and get the error message Mountain Lion can't connect to account POP. I've incoming/outgoing servers, ports, authentication, etc., and still receive this error message. Any suggestions? Thanks!

works just fine for me using hotmail over pop
so maybe your pop3 provider changed their settings or your firewall is blocking the ones they use

  • Can i update version 10.5.8 to snow leopard or mountain lion, can i updatee MacOSX version 10.5.8 to snow leopard or mountain lion

can i update version 10.5.8 to snow leopard or mountain lion,

Not if you have a PPC machine. In that case your are at the limit. But if you have an Intel model:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

You can use it on all the Macs you own. To save time downloading, after you DL it the first time, choose "Install Later". Then duplicate the "Install Mac OS X ML" in your Applications folder and save it off to disk. Then go back and double-click on "Install Mac OS X" in your Applications folder to begin the install.
