Mountain Lion : Cannot disable Screensaver

I am not able to disable screensaver on my MBP running Mountain Lion. Even if i set start after to "never" or any particular time interval, it always defaults to "10 mins" once i log-off and log back in. Appreciate any help.
/Gino.

You could try deleting the com.apple.screensaver.plist file from your preferences folder, although I'm not seeing anything in that file on my system for the start interval, so that's probably not the right solution.

  • Mountain Lion - cannot copy and paste in finder

    Hey,
I've only just noticed this today and I've done a search but can't find anything so far to help me. I upgraded from lion to mountain lion the day after it was released, not fresh install, upgrade. Basically... I cannot copy files using either cmd+c / cmd+v or using the finder edit->copy / edit-> paste menu. They aren't greyed out. Everytime I try I get the error "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items.".
This will happen even with a newly created folder. I can delete files. I can create files. I can drag files in finder without issue but I cannot copy and paste. I'm guessing there are permission issues going on but I don't know where to start.
Repairing permissions didn't help (I kinda didn't think it would given it only works on system files but thought it worth a go).
This is an example of the file permissions assigned to a screen grab on my desktop:

Even if I blow it wide open with chmod 777 I still can't copy it...

Can anyone offer me some advice on where to start with sorting out this issue?
    Cheers,
    Jack

Hey, I was really loathed to try reinstalling the OS and something told me that I'd I can drag and drop but not copy and paste there had to be something interfering with the clipboard.
I disabled Alfred and its clipboard history feature (http://www.alfredapp.com/) and rebooted. Amazingly this fixed my issue. I'm going to email the author in the morning to give them a heads up about this.
Thanks to both of you for taking the time to offer me advice.
John Guo - nice tip, wasn't aware of that!

  • MBP Mountain Lion Cannot read or recognized Micro SD Card and SDHD card

I recently did an update on my MBP and imac (both are mountain lion: OS X 10.8.2 ). Now both cannot read or recognize my Micro SD card (inserted using adapter**) or my SDHD card when inserted in SD slot. I could not see the card in Disk utility either. I started having the problem today after I did the update earlier this week, but last week it was working fine. Can someone please help me? I do not know what else to do. Your kindness is highly appreciated.Thank you.

  • Mountain Lion - Cannot download additional components???

My MacPRO (2008) was running like clock work, but recently a gremlin has appeared. I have been on this forum before and so far all information has been really useful. The mac would start up and shutdown in one motion. I didn't even have enough time to bypass or boot from an alternate drive so it was off to the mac centre to find the cause. Weirdly enough they found nothing wrong and it was good to go. I decided this might be an opportunity to rebuild from scratch and so my 4 drives I zeroed the data and tried to reload Mac OSX 10.8. It starts all well and good before stopping after a few minutes and flagging a problem "cannot download additional components". What is causing this and how do i get around the problem. I would take it back to service centre but have lost confidence in there competency since everytime I take it there it comes out worse than it went in.

Did you get to the point where you have downloaded the entire package from AppStore?
Save the ESD package and prepare an install disk and do a clean install.
Usually - there was one person recently here but cannot find buried in a thread, they had 10.8.2 and the installer is 10.8.3.
    What are you running now?
As for the original problem, for which no problem was found... are you using an SSD to boot the system?
How to do clean install of Mountain is same as was for Lion, with how to clone a system.
Make sure you have 8GB flash drive, or even a small (16-32GB) partition (yes, you can setup an installer to run from hard disk drives to do a clean install to another drive or partition).
Create an OS X Lion Install disc

  • Download of update in Mountain Lion has disabled my Wifi.  Why

For at least the third time, I have downloaded an update to Mountain Lion and it has disabled my wifi!  Why?  Can anyone help?

The pop up saying there were updates to my OS (Mountain Lion) available and I chose the Update button which restarted my MacBook.  When it restarted, it would no longer connect to the Wifi.  When I went to Network Preferences, the Wifi is turned off and will not allow me to turn back on.  Additionally, the device does not recognize any networks and just continues to "search" for them.
This is the 3rd time this has happened to me when downloading updates to the OS!  Every other time has required support to get involved.  I am wondering how many other people this has happened to?

  • I just purchased OS X Mountain Lion Upgrade.  When I went to install it is says "Os X Mountain Lion cannot be installed on Macintosh HD" please help!

Just purchsed upgrade OSX Mountain Lion.  Went to install and it says "OSX cannot be installed on Macintosh HD" Why?

    Hi,
If you bought the iMac in 2010 it should be supported indeed, however be aware that the information refers to the manufaction date which might be different than the purchase date.
    Please verify the following information:
    Click the Apple icon.
    Click About This Mac.
    Click More Info.
What is the listed Model Identifier?
You may identify the exact model by comparing it with the Model Identifier below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1758
Now go back to your Desktop, click the Go menu and select Utilities.
    Open the Disk Utilitiy.
Select Macintosh HD from the left pane.
You may find the Available space listed in here.
As well, what it the listed Format within the same screen?

  • Mac Reminder (Mountain Lion) cannot sync with Exchange Server 2010

    Hi All,
My boss is using iMac reminder (Mountain Lion), iPhone and iPad sync with his Exchange Server account, He cannot sync Mac reminder with Exchange Server last week. However, there are no sync problem of iPhone, iPad and the other iMac.
My boss mail to me 'Just noticed that my iMac reminder is not in sync with the server. IOS device is in sync though. Tried unchecking calendar+reminder on account setup and rechecking but still no good. Any ideas?'
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks,

Started experiencing this same issue with new Macs on Moutain Lion connecting to MicroSoft Exchange Server.
    ERROR Says:
Calendar can't save the event "event name here" to the Exchange server.
The account "describes calendar name" currently can't be modified. to discard your changes and continue using the version of your calendars that's on the server. click Revert to Server.
Then gives the buttons "Revert to Server" "Try Again" or "Ignore"
!!! Somehow it seems like this is a known issue, otherwise WHY would Apple have given us those 3 buttons to click on?
Needless to say this is causing productivity problems as it disrupts the very busy schedule of many users. Apple needs to provide some workaround for this.

  • How to reinstall Mountain Lion while disabling firewire extention

I am reinstalling Mountain Lion but get stuck at the reboot stage, because the installation procedure re-enables my fried FireWire port, which I had previously disabled by removing all FireWire-related extensions.  When FireWire is enabled (i.e. there are FireWire extensions in /System/Library/Extensions), my computer never starts up because it is busy printing a "handleunrecoverableerrorint" message about FireWire.
How can I reinstall Mountain Lion while avoiding the re-installation of FireWire extensions?  I already have a bootable ML USB drive from which I am running ML Install.
My AppleCare is long over, but I've managed to squeeze a few extra years out of my 2008 MBP by removing FireWire kexts.
Here's what I've tried so far:
The problem seemed to be that /OS X Install Data/BaseSystem.dmg contains FireWire extensions, which I believe is the system that is loaded during installation.
I have already tried rolling my own identical BaseSystem.dmg minus its FireWire extensions (properly chmodded), but somehow I still get FireWire error messages during startup.  /OS X Install Data/kernelcache might be the culprit, but I don't know how to rebuild it.
I can't think of anything else to do... any ideas?

Open the Mac App Store, click Purchases, select ML, then re-download and install. However if your machine has the abillity to run Mavericks I'd just upgrade to that and bypass ML.

has it gone for good? was there a problem with it on Mountain Lion? I'd love to know! thanks!

    -Reece,
We only have 1 single domain, 1 domain forest, no subdomains, only alias. I had replied to the other post as well. But I am happy to paste it here in case anyone want to read it.
So, after a few months of testing, capture and sending logs back and forth to Apple Engineers, we found out there is a setting in AD, under User Account that prevent us to log into AD from Mountain Lion. If you would go to your AD server, open up a user account properties, then go to Account tab, the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" option is checked. As soon as I uncheck that option, immediately I was able to log into AD on the Mac client. Apple engineers copied all my AD settings and setup a test environment on their end and match exact mine AD environment. They was able to reproduce this issue.
The bad part about this is... our environment required the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" is checked in AD, in order for our users to login into some of our Unix and Linux services. Which mean that it is impossible for us to remove that check mark because most, if not all of them some way or another require to login into applications that run on Unix and Linux. Apple is working to see if they can come up with a fix. Apparently, no one has report this issue except us. I believe most of you out there don't have that check mark checked in your environment... Anyone out there have any suggestion to by pass or have a work around for this?

  • Mountain Lion cannot recognize AVCHD name/folders !

Mountain Lion transforms AVCHD folders into a single QuickTime file. AVCHD folders ae produced by video cameras, and it is a professional standard. We shoot and record on SD cards. Then upload the files to our Macs. The probleme is that when we insert an SD Card, Mountain Lion seems to change the structure of the card, and the AVCHD folder becomes a QuickTime file, with the QT icon. So we need to right-click on the name, show package contents, and keep doing that until we arrive to the folder which contains the .mts files, which are the actual video files.
I did a simple test: put an SD card in a card reader, and renamed the AVCHD file to a (like the letter). It became a folder! I renamed the file inside (b) which also became a folder. And when I opened it, the expected files where there, and ready to be transfered.
Any fix or solution  for this problem which is rapidly becoming a negative point for Mountain Lion amongst the community of videographers?
    L

    This is very annoying.
The workaround I use is to right click the "quicktime file" and select "show package contents."  This opens the folder.  If there is a folder inside that one that also has AVCHD files in it, you will have to repeat the proess until you get to the files themselves.
This is very annoying when you deal with these files all the time and you have to go through 5 layers of files to get where you need to go.  The glitch needs fixed...fast.

  • Mountain Lion cannot reboot after I used windows 7 with bootcamp

I go to bootcamp partition and run windows 7 without any problems.
Then I restart and try to use Mountain Lion on an encrypted partition. It keeps rebooting.
Then I keep trying until I can go back to mountain lion. I don't know what I do that makes it work. I keep shuting it down and trying again, safe mode whatever.
Once I finally get Mountain Lion to start, it appers to be working perfectly.

You can install Windows in BootCamp (it will be a fresh installation) and you can remove the existing VM installation. Windows will run faster in Boot Camp than it will in a VM (parallels is a VM).
Please note that MacBook Pro's have 2 ram slots, and they will both be occupied with a 2G chip in a standard configuraton, there will be nowhere to install the other 4G that is in the mail. Return it and order 2 x 4G chips and remove the 2 x 2G chips already fitted.

  • Mountain Lion cannot see fibre raid, Snow Leopard can?

Hi, I have a 3,1 Mac Pro, 8 core, 2.8GHz with an LSI 7404 fibre card. The card is connected directly to my 2 medea raids (no switch). The raids mount perfectly in Snow Leopard, but in Mountain Lion 8.2 only half of each raid can be seen in disc utility. Mountain Lion lists the fibre card as "driver installed" as well. Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

I would expect Disk Utility to still report the Physical drives, even if it could not see the Logical Volumes correctly. Does it see all the Physical drives?
If not, what kind of enclosure are they in? does the manufacturer have anything clever to say about this version of Mac OS X?
EDIT: Have you considered buying and installing Lion and installing it on another drive?  It IS still available. You can buy a download code if you call the Online Store. Under US$30.
