Mountain Lion & compatibility with your s'ware

Before you upgrade to this dubiousdelevopment have a look at:
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/90480-upgrading-to-os-x-lion-potential-prob lems-and-how-to-avoid-them
and:
http://roaringapps.com/apps:table/p/1
Could be that we might have to replace a frightening amount of software!!

I had not upgraded before I made the original coment. Took perhaps too much notice of the problems others had experienced.
So, being aware of the lack of security updates I updated, with the help of the Call Desk as, as I really did not have the latest version of 10.6.8 I was given advice of how to get the real one.
Worked a treat, no compatibility probs with the s'ware I have. Lucky may be. Mountain Lion fast, easily configured and controlable. Me - can't fault it.
Best find out for yourself aye?

if i buy office 2011 will it work on mountain lion when it comes out

    Hi Guido H
I haven't upgrade my 2 machines to Mountain Lion yet for the following reason.
    1. The Mac Mini I have is used by my children, so I would not have the opportunity to test Mountain Lion proberly on et anyway.
    2. I Have Office 2011 on may Macbook Air, and I am not going to upgrade it to Mountain Lion until I know that it runs properly in Mountain Lion.
As my home and studient version does not come with Outlook my question to you is. How does Word, Excel and Outlook run under Montain Lion? Any problems I should be aware off?
    Thanks in advance

  • Mountain Lion compatibility with early MacBooks

I'm looking at buying a used MacBook, MB403LL/A. Release year 2008. This is a core 2 duo machine, and it has 4G RAM.
On the apple site, it says that compatible MacBooks are: MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
So, would the machine above be compatible with Mountain Lion? It appears not. What would be the hardware change between 2008 and 2009 that would make it unsupported?
Could it be that *some* MacBooks released in 2008 are not core 2 duo (perhaps just core duo) and thus cannot be upgraded, and the directive from Apple above is simplified... meaning that yes, a 2008 core 2 duo would be able to take the upgrade to Mountain Lion?
    Thanks, Cliff

  • Mountain Lion Compatibility with Xeon processors

I have a Mac Pro with 2 * 3 GHz Intel Dual-Core Xeon Processors. When trying to download Mountain Lion I am told my computer isn't compatible, yet the require, emts suggest it should be. Any advice?

Even though this Xeon processor configuration is 64-bit, the ROM EFI on this Mac Pro is 32-bit. Mountain Lion requires it to be 64-bit. The Quad-core Mac Pro introduced in January 2008 has a 64-bit EFI, which is why the Mountain Lion hardware specs accept this machine.

  • Mountain Lion compatibility with SPSS PASW Statistics 18 and IBM SPSS Statistics 20

SPSS PASW Statistics 18.0 and 18.0.3
If you find that 18.0 is troublesome with Mountain Lion, follow the advice that's given for similar troubles with Lion.
Early indications here are that 18.0.3 (2012-09-09) – the result of PASWStatistics_1 803_Mac_Patch.dmg and IBM SPSS Statistics 18.0.3.4 Hotfix Mac.zip – is trouble-free on Build 12A269 of OS X 10.8.
    … 19
    Not tested by me.
    IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0.0
Tested only briefly. Since a trial period has expired, I can't tell whether it's compatible.

  • Mountain Lion Compatibility With Printer.

Macbook Pro, Updated to Mountain Lion, found that on print & scan preferences, open printer Q, lack of printer settings adjustment control only 3 buttons, on the left Delete,Pause, on the right 1, Scanner.
Also there was no way to adjust the settings of the printer, all controls were greyed out, also I use Epson Easy Print software as well as apple software, both were greyed out, my printer was stuck on fast print which gave very poor results.
Both my MacBook Pro and my Epson Printer are fully upto date as far as updates are concerned.
Contacted applecare said problem was with Epson software, but problem was also in Preferences which is apple.
I un-installed Mountain Lion, re-installed Lion, NO PROBLEMS, printer Q has 8 controls,
Delete, Hold, Jobs, Pause, Supply Levels, Printer setup, on the left of the window, Printer, Scanner on the right.
Both apple and Epson printer setting work perfectly, not greyed out.
This must surely be a compatibily problem with Mountain Lion, when are apple going to correct this.
Has anybody else noticed this problem?
The cure must be, stay with Lion, wait for the first update patch!!!!

  • Mountain lion compatibility with microsoft entourage

i installed mountain lion and seem to have lost entourage and all email files.  how can i retrieve and restore mail, entourage and settings?

No component of Office 2004 will work, including Entourage. Entourage 2008 should work, but you'd be better off upgrading to Office 2011, which includes Outlook for Mac. This article details the migration process:

  • How do you install mountain lion on all your macs in the household using one 20 dollar license?

how do you install mountain lion on all your macs in the houshold with the same license (you only pay 20 bucks for all your macs) is that right?

As long as they're all logged into the Mac App store with the same Apple ID, you can re-download the installer to all the Macs.
Or you can save a copy of the installer file before you run it and use that to update the other Macs. The ML installer file will appear in your Applications folder when it's done downloading. Copy it to another location (don't move it).
If you don't copy it before you upgrade, it will disappear when ML is finished installing.

  • Is mountain lion compatible with snow leopard?

is mountain lion compatible with snow leopard? can you use the same version of iTunes

VMware and Toaster can be upgraded to versions that will run on Mountain Lion.
I was not able to find anything on PalmPilot for Mountain Lion. Of course seeing as how it is at least 15 years old that doesn't surprise me.
As I see you want to run two operating systems which means rebooting to use them just for PalmPilot. IMHO that is a lot of effort on your part for a very small gain.

  • Mountain Lion Server with Network User

I have a Mountain Lion Server with a network user. The whole system has been redone from Lion Server and on top of that I moved location, ISP, hardware and a few other things. The way I used the setup on Lion was to bind my MBP to the server and login from the MBP login window with the network account. If for whatever reason I wanted to look at the network account on the server, I could fast user swtich and everything that was open ie Safari, Mail, etc would be the same as it was on the MBP.
Now if I'm logged into the network user on the MBP and then go to the server, it logs in as if I've just booted. They share the home folder and any new files/folders created on one shows on the other. But if Mail is open on the MBP it won't be open on the server.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks for your reply.
I believe I got it to work, but,... How do you get the network account users to show up on the login window of the client computer? The login window shows the name of the client computer and the local accounts on the client computer. When I select Other in the login list I can login using a network account user id and it logs in. The network account user names do not show up on the login window

  • I'm having trouble with my iMessages registration. Has anyone had any problems after they downloaded the mountain lion King with that iMessages because mine is not linking to the computer and my phone

Is anyone else having trouble after thy downloaded Mountain lion x with iMessages mine isnt linking to my computer because it keeps saying i have a  registration error. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it

    HI,
People who have had computer that has had the Logic/motherboard replaced during repair or refurbishment that has not has the Mac Serial Number Flashed to the board have found that iMessage in particular have not been able to "register".
A current purchase of Mountain Lion will tend to give you the latest version which as of Thursday (12 th Mar) is OS X 10.8.3
You can use System Information to find if the Serial Number is there as it appears under the Hardware section.
If it is missing you need to get to an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider who can flash the info to the board.
