Mountain Lion: Constant Sandbox denies for mdworker

I'm trying to find out what's causing sandboxd to throw several messages to the Console.  Since installation (upgrade from 10.7.4), I've seen these:
sandboxd[70533] ([70530]): mdworker(70530) deny file-write-create /Users/brian/Library/Keychains/login.keychain.sb-###### loads of numbers.
I usually get them in batches of 12, and they literally come about 10-15x a minute at worst.  I'm sure this isn't great for performance, and I'd really just like to stop whatever's causing it, if only so I can more clearly read my Console when other things are legitimately going wrong.  I also don't want Spotlight writing to my Keychain.  What's that all about?
I don't have any Spotlight plugins, so I can't imagine why mdworker would be trying to modify my Keychain.  I got that tip with my Google-fu, but I can't tell what else this might be.
kernel[0]: Sandbox: sandboxd(70547) deny mach-lookup com.apple.coresymbolicationd  This is a new one for me, just started earlier today, if it helps pinpoint anything.
Has anyone else got a clue what could be causing mdworker to anger the sandbox so?
Thanks!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It will make no changes to your system, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
sudo iosnoop | sed '50q'
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Text will begin to scroll in the Terminal window. When it stops, copy the text output — not a screenshot — from the Terminal window into a reply to this message. Please don't post more than requested.
If any personal information, such as your name, appears in the output, edit before posting, but don’t remove the context.
You can then quit Terminal.
Important: There seems to be an obscure bug in OS X that sometimes causes input devices to lag or stutter after running iosnoop. If you notice this behavior, simply reboot to clear it.

I do not have a high speed internet connection. How can I get Mountain Lion on a disk for install on my 24" Imac?

As long as you use your Apple ID to purchase it, I don't see why they wouldn't let you download the installer on one of their Macs and put it on a pocket drive.
Or, a friend with a high speed connection?
I agree with you about the delivery method, just trying to help you get what you want.

  • I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail is not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail are not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice. Yesterday, the signatures were stacking instead of switching to the one I wanted to choose.

I had this and fixed it.
I had upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures in Mail were fine. But then about a week later, I got a new computer and used Migration Assistant to copy my stuff to the new machine. Upon opening Mail, I had all the correct Signature information in the Preferences>Signatures window, but nothing worked.
After lots of hunting, I found the Signature Folder. It's in:
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
Looking at my previous setup (which works) I saw in that folder two types of files: .webarchive and .siganture
Looking in my new machine's Signature folder, I saw only the .webarchive folders, not the .signature folders
Since this was literally a clone of my previous setup to a new machine, here's what I did:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. In Problem machine, go to
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
    3. Move the Signatures folder someplace safe, but out of the MailData folder
    4. Get the Signatures Folder from the working install (like a backup) and copy it to the MailData folder on the problematic machine
    5. Start Mail on the problem machine
This worked for me. I don't know why Migration Assistant didn't copy the full signature folder, but this fixed it. It worked perfectly partly because I had just backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner and the very next day set up the new machine. I don't know where Lion or earlier versions of mail stored signatures, but the absence of the .signature filetype seems to be the problem.
    Hope this helps

  • How will mountain lion affect my office for mac 201111

How will mountain Lion affect my office for Mac 2011

I have been using Office for Mac 2011 for almost a year now and the issue started immediately after doing the upgrade.
When I start Outlook I can see that it takes 1 minute plus to set up the identity.
When it finally runs it is very slow and no fun to use. It seems that Outlook is using very few resources when I look at the activity monitor.
Overall it seems that my IMac has become slower than before upgrading to 10.8.
I do not have support with MSFT anymore and I do hope that somebody does report this issue to MSFT.
To me it seems to be very clear a result of the upgrade.
    Hope that helps.

  • Is Mountain Lion just too much for my MAC?

I was running Snow Leopard and it was great everything ran smooth and everything. I needed to upgrade to iMovie 11 which I couldnt due unless I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Now my computer just runs sluggish. Everything lags now, from internet browsing to itunes to everything. Ever since I upgraded its been like a downgrade.
My mac is a early 2008 model macbook pro. Is Mountain Lion just too much for my computer or is there anything I can do to fix this?

For someone who has never put together a computer or anything of that nature, how hard or risky is installing it.
It's easy. Apple even provides instructions for you: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270
Crucial has a little app you can install that will examine your system and suggest upgrade options:

You don't have to buy from them, though they are a good vendor, as is OWC / MacSales.

The Download is about 4GB, it depends on how fast your internet connection is and how busy Apple computers are. Have you any way of checking if your Internet is downloading, I.E activity lights on you router. My Internet is 8Mb/s download and it took just over an hour to download earlier today.
I am not sure about a "time remaining"icon.

  • If I buy OSX Lion now can I get Mountain Lion later next month for free?

    Any idea?

    Only on a new Mac.
In simple terms, you either need:
A qualifying 10.7 Mac purchased on June 11, 2012 to 10.8's release date, then you have 30 days afterwards to upgrade to 10.8 for free.
Bought a qualifying new 10.7 Mac on or after the 10.8 release date which you then have 30 days to request a free 10.8 upgrade.

Attempt to install Mountain Lion has highlighted need for internal disk repair. Even after "repair" ML still says disk is damaged. Attempt to restore from Time Machine back-up failed - cannot 'see' internal HD to restore to. Help! Has attempt to install ML caused these problems or just highlighted existing need to Repair Disk? Even so, why can back-up from Time Machine not see the internal drive to restore to?

Csound1, William & Sig .... thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I fear you are right - I'll need a new disk. I'm booked in at the Apple Genius Bar in Bordeaux, France on Wed ... quite a challenge as my French isn't great! The current internal disk is 500gb, does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 21.5" iMac (circa Oct-2009 vintage) to a larger size internal disk, 1Tb or even 2Tb? I already have one external 2Tb drive and another one on order (I have masses of media stored and more planned as I've just taken up photography). Seems a bit of a pain managing with only 500gb internal storage. OR, can you advise me on how I can store all my photos on my new 2Tb external drive - I can't seem to figure out how to set the path for iPhoto to see them (I can't even figure out where they are stored right now!). Same with iTunes, how do I set the default storage to the external drive (I moved everything manually and then imported them all from the new drive - it worked but seemed very convoluted). Any advice on how to manage multiple drives gratefully received. And thanks again for previous replies.

Downloaded Mountain Lion and lost support for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Anyone know how to get it back?

Odds are you running Office 2004, which is coded in PowerPC code. PowerPC is no longer supported.
You either must upgrade the newer version  of Office that will work or downgrade OS X.

  • I just recently installed mountain lion and an update for SMC firmware to install power nap. Everything is working except for the menu bar, the icons native to the system do not respond, and features like the clock and battery meter freeze.

I just recently installed mountain lion and an update for SMC firmware to install power nap. Everything is working except for the menu bar, the icons native to the system do not respond, and features like the clock and battery meter freeze.
When I mouse over the icons, the rainbow appears as if it was processing something. The problem is eliminated when I restart my computer but it comes back after a while.
I guess I cant make a backup copy and restore the whole disk because the copy would be made with this error.
Can anyone help me? Anyone with the same issue?

Update: I was able to test out the HDMI adapter as well and the same issue occured.  I'm stumped.  10.8.1 maybe.

  • Can I download a copy of OSX Mountain Lion (which I paid for) from the App Store, to make a boot-able copy, from a Friends imac?

My MBP got screwy since Maverick install. I made a bootable copy on my machine of
Mountain Lion (or so I thought) with Diskmaker X. After moving all important files to an external drive,
I cleared HDD, and rebooted from thumb drive, with no success! This article gave me hope:
    http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/clean-install-mountain-lion/
Can I do this from a friend's iMac in App Store (my account) ?
    Thanks :)

If so, the first thing I would do is to back up your data on the ill mac. I assume both  macs have firewire port, get a cable and connect both macs via this cable. Then restart your ill mac by pressing T key after chime, it will become a simple external disk you should see on the desktop of your healthy mac. Back up your data.
Now, with this action accomplished, you may go on. BArney - 15E is optimistic and says how to restart in recovery mode—this may be possible if installation was complete for recovery partition (I doubt this, but I may be wrong).
Otherwise, I would reinstall from the scratch. If after connecting your ill mac via FW, you may see the disk in good order, you should also see the Lion installer within Applications folder. Copy it unto an external disk or flash disk and keep it safe, you will need it again.

  • When I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion my Quicken 2006 for Mac stopped working, short of paying the $59 for Quicken Mac Essentials is there anything else I can do to read my old files?

    help

Preface: I have no experience with Quicken Essentials, but have read, quite often, on this and other forums that it is a further strip down of features from Quicken 2007.  So I agree, get Quicken 2007 for Lion/Mt. Lion, but...
    BE CAREFUL with Quicken!
When Intuit finally released Quicken 2007 for Lion v16.1.1 in March, 2013 it was a godsend for older Quicken PPC users.  It will directly open the data file from Quicken 2005, 2006 or 2007 PPC versions.  The upgrade to 16.1.2 with the release of Mountain Lion was also stable.
I found version 16.1.3 to crash on opening on my Lion Mac, so I downgraded back to version 16.1.2 and all is well.  Others are now reporting that version 16.1.4, the current version sold by Intuit, is also causing some problems.  I have not been able to isolate these reports.
My point: purchase Quicken 2007 for Lion, but ALSO:
    1.  Make copies of your Quicken 2007 PPC data file and back them up BEFORE you attempt to open it in 16.1.4; and
    2.  If you run into problems, let me know by email (michaellax) at AOL dot com.
If it works fine for you, please report that too!
PS: Baltwo will tell you he has encountered no problems and good for him.  But the reports of others with problems keep mounting...
